  • The objective of this study is to present the inspection standards of motorcycle lamps affecting motorcycle traffic accident in night time. The inspection standards of motorcycle lamps recommended by CITA International Motor Vehicle Inspection Committee are surveyed. Also, the domestic safety standards of motorcycle and inspection standards of passenger car are considered. The inspection standard and method with principal reasons of rejections of head-lamp, number plate lamp, front-rear position lights, stop lamp and direction indicators of motorcycles are suggested.

  • The objective of this study is to present the inspection standards of motorcycle brake system affecting motorcycle traffic accident. The inspection standards of motorcycle brake system recommended by CITA (International Motor Vehicle Inspection Committee) are studied. The brake performance for preventing the traffic accident is assessed by the brake efficiency. Considering the KMVSS (Korean Motor Vehicle Safety Standards) and the inspection standards of CITA, United Kingdom and Japan, the brake performance in the inspection standards of motorcycle is suggested. It is recommended that the efficiency of independent front and rear brakes are 40% and 27%, respectively. It is recommended that the efficiency of combined front and rear brakes is 50%.

  • This paper has presented the headlight inspection standards and methods of two-wheeled motorcycles considering Korean Motor Vehicle Safety Standards (KMVSS), Korean Motor Vehicle Inspection Standards (KMVI) and the inspection standards of the International Motor Vehicle Inspection Committee (CITA). As a result of analyzing the headlight luminous intensity test result with fixed inspection equipment, 21% does not meet the inspection standard proposed in this study, and 33.3% in mobile inspection equipment does not meet. The average luminous intensity of motorcycle less than 50 cc is 8,340 cd, so all the lightweight small sized motor cycles do not meet the proposed headlight inspection standard.
