Physiological and Biochemical Responses of Fifteen Rice Cultivars to UV-B Radiation

  • This study was conducted to examine the physiological and biochemical responses against UV-B radiation in the seedling of 15 different rice cultivars, having the different physiological sensitivities. Out of 15 rice cultivars tested, moderate and susceptible groups showed significant decreases in biomass and RGR (relative growth rate). Contents of total chlorophyll were reduced remarkedly by irradiation of UV-B. In all rice cultivars tested, the content of chlorophyll a was strongly decreased, while the contents of chlorophyll b were slightly reduced without showing clear different among three groups and 15 cultivars. Carotenoid content was largely reduced by UV-B radiation, whereas polyamine content was moderately increased. The contents of MDA (malondialdehyde) that reflect the level of lipid peroxidation of cell membranes were clearly increased by UV-B stress, showing higher content in susceptible cultivars than moderate and torelant cultivars. The physiological important parameters highly related to visible injury were leaf color, chlorophyll, carotenoid, and lipid peroxidation, whereas biomass and polyamines were not closely correlated. Based on this results, it was concluded that changes of visible injury and the contents of chlorophyll and MDA could be adequately applied and utilized as physiological indicators to UV-B radiation.

딸기의 육안적 품질평가 (Visual Qulity Estimation of Strawberry)

  • The objeative of this study was to investigate the possibility of estimation of internal quality by observing visible state of strawberry. Several tests such as color("L", "A", H,V,C), degree of blackred ness, opening state of calyx, vitamin C content, brix degree, acidity, freshness, overall quality, chlorophyll content, and anthocyanin content were performend during circulation at 20$^{\circ}C$. Acidity(R=-0.96), chloroph-yll content(r=-0.99), vitamin C content(r=-0.98), freshness(r=-0.96), and overall quality(-0.99), degree of blackredness(r=0.98) and opening state of calyx(=0.98), color saturation(r=0.99), degree of blackredness(r=0.98) and opening state of calyx(=0.98) increased during circulation at 20$^{\circ}C$. in correlation between visible indicators andd internal qualities, "L" valu and brix degree was r=-0.74, "a" and brix degree was r=0.93 Hue and anthocyanin content was r=0.74, value and chlorophyll content, brix degree were r=-0.91, r=-0.77, chroma and brix degree was r=0.96. The correlations between color saturation and vitamin C content(r=-0.96), chlorophyll content(r=-0.98), freshness(r=-0.98), overall quality(r=-0.94), loss of total polyphenol(0.94) and acidity(r=-0.94) showed high correlation. The correlatiions between degree of blackrednes and vitamin C content(r=-0.99), chlorophyll content(r=-0.94), anthocyanin content(=-0.74), freshness(r=-0.97) overall quality (r=-0.95), loss of total polyphenol(r=0.93) and acidity(r=-0.91) chlorophyll content(r=-0.99), freshness(r=-0.98), overall quality(r=-0.92), loss of total polyphenol(r=0.99) and acidity(r=0.83) showed high correlation.

EFFECT OF UREA NITROGEN ON THE METABOLISM OF PLANTS (III)

  • Leaf samples, raised on the N-deficient and N-abundant sand and sprayed with varying concentration of urea, were analized for their total chlorophyll concentration. It was observed that the depression periods of the chlorophyll content appeared at first by spraying with urea; it appeared on the 3rd day in the N-deficient plots and on the 6th day in the N-abundant plots. Causes of the depression of chlorophyll may be assumed to be in an excessive urea, an accumulation of ammonia from urea absorbed, and depression of water content owing to urea application. The maximum content of the chlorophyll was shown on the 6th day in N-deficient and on the 12th day in the N-abundant plots. The young leaves activity formed the chlorophyll by urea foliar spray, compared with the mature ones. This result was consistent with previous paper.

  • This study was carried out to investigate spectral characterisistics and chlorophyll contents of Pinus koraiensis needles in Gwangju-gun, Kyunggi-do. In spectrum analysis by each age, needle showed difference on 700∼1,100 nm(NIR : near infrared ray). Light reflexibility keeps constant between 1st year needle and 3rd year needle, current year needle's value was higher than others and that was higher for 400∼500 nm and 600∼700 nm at 550 nm. Transmission to needle's age showed the highest result in current year needle. It showed in order of current, 1st, 2nd and 3rd year needle at 550 nm and 750 nm. Especially, current year needles of Pinus koraiensis showed a tendency to change transmission coefficient in NIR. The result of transmission coefficient measurement by each position of slope showed in order of middle slope, upper slope and lower slope. But the gathered needle in middle slope made marked change at NIR. Chlorophyll a content of the upper slope's needles was higher than other 4 positions but a component ratio was lower. In needle of the oppressed tree, Chlorophyll a content was rather low than others. Chlorophyll a content by slope positions, the upper slope's needle showed a highest value(4.48 mg/g) and lower slope was lowest value(1.35 mg/g). Chlorophyll b content also showed a similar tendency to chlorophyll a and chlorophyll(a+b) contents.

  • 고추의 Polyethylene Film house 재배시에 피복 재료로서 White, Blue, Green 및 Red Color의 Film을 사용하여 광질에 따른 실험을 행한 바 있다. White와 Red Film의 처리시에 Chlorophyll, Carotenoid, 및 Capsaicin 함량을 측정한 결과는 다음과 같다. 1. 총(總) Chlorophyll의 함량은 White구가 $208.9{\mu}g/g$-F.W., Red구가 $153.0{\mu}g/g$-F.W.으로서 White구에서 그 함량이 현저히 높았으며, Chlorophyll a,b의 비는 White, Red구가 각각 2.15, 2.13으로 비슷하였다. 2. 총(總) Carotenoid는 Red구가 White구의 3.4배에 달하였으며, 특히 $\beta$-carotene은 Red, White구가 각각 $490.6{\mu}g%,\;75.5{\mu}g%$로서 Red구에서 현저히 많았다. 3. Capsaicin의 함량은 Red구가 White구보다 약 20%정도 높았다.

4종 촤화류에 대한 pH 수준별 처리가 잎의 완충능력, chlorophyll 함량 및 무기성분 용출에 미치는 영향 (Effect of Simulated Acid Solution on Acid Buffering Capacity, Chlorophyll Content and Nutrient Leaching in the Leaves fo 4 Herb Species)

  • This study was conducted to investigate the effect of simulated acid solution(SAS) on acid buffering capacity, chlorophyll content and butrient leacking in 4 herb species(Petunia hybrida Vilm, Gomphrena globosa L. Celosia cristat L. Salvia officinallis L) . The acid buffering capacity in the leves was increased in the treatment of pH 3.0 in Celosia L., whereas it was increased at pH 4.0 in Petunia Petunia hybrida Vilm. and Gomprean globosa L.. But, the acid buffering capacity of the leaves did not work at ph 2.0 treatment in 4 herb species. With decreasing pH level, the chlorophyll content of Petunia hybrida Vilm. and Gomphrena globosa L. Was markedly decreased than that of Gelosia cristata L. and Savia officinalis L. As the pH levels decreased from 5.6 to 2.0 the nutrient leaching from leaves was significantly increased in 4 herb species. In pH 4.0 and 5.6, the concentrations of nutrient leaching from leaves were higher in Perunia hybrida Vilm. and Gomphrean globosa L. than Gelosia cristata L. and Salvia officinalis L., Based on the results, there was a great differences in response to SAS among the 4 herb species. Im general, Gelosia cristata L. and Salvia officinalis L. represented a higher tolerance to SAS Petunia hybrida Vilm, and Gomphrena globosa L..

  • Phytotron을 사용(使用) 열대형질(熱帶形質)인 IR667 계통(系統)(수원 213 및214)과 기존장려품종(진흥(振興) 및 팔달(八達))의 생육(生育) 시기별(時期別)(묘대말기(苗代末期), 최분기(最分期), 출수기(出穗期))로 저온처리(低溫處理)($15^{\circ}C$, $20^{\circ}C$, $25^{\circ}C$, 3일(日) 및 7일간(日間))를 하여 엽록소(葉綠素), 질소(窒素) 및 가리(加里) 함량(含量)의 변화(變化)를 상부제(上部第) 2엽신(葉身)에서 조사(調査)하였다. 1. chl. 함량이 $25^{\circ}C$ 에서는 IR667계통(系統)이 장여품종(奬勵品種)보다 크나 $20^{\circ}C$이하(以下)에서는 그 반대(反對)였으며 chi. a/b 값은 장려품종(奬勵品種)이 언제나 큰 경향이다. 2. 엽록소함량(葉綠素含量)은 생육(生育)에 따라 감소(減少)하며 chl.a가 b 보다 저온(低溫)에 의(依)한 감소(減少)가 크고 묘대기(苗代期)가 저온(低溫)의 영향(影響)을 가장 심히 받았다. 3. chl. 함량(含量)이 증가(增加)할수록 chl. a/b 값도 증가(增加)하는데 장해(障害)를 받으면 chi.당(當) a/b. 비율(比率) 증가(增加)가 감소(減少)하며 저온(低溫)에 약(弱)한 IR667이 장려품종보다 더욱 감소(減少)한다. 4. Chl. 잔존율(殘存率)로 보아 IR667계통(系統)이 장려품종(奬勵品種)보다 저온장해(低溫障害)를 크게 받는다. 5. 전질소(全窒素) 및 methanol 가용질소(可溶窒素)(S-N)는 저온(低溫)에 의(依)하여 감소(減少)하는 경향(傾向)이다. 6. chl. (a+b)/S-N 값은 생육(生育)에 따라 감소하며 온도(溫度)에 크게 영향(影響)받지 않으며 장려품종(奬勵品種)이 언제나 큰 경향(傾向)이다. 7. 저온(低溫)에 의하여 K함량(含量)은 감소(減少)하는 경향(傾向)이며 methanol 가용(可溶)K가 증가(增加)하면 chlorophyll 함량(含量)도 증가(增加)하는 경향(傾向)이다. 8. IR667이 고온(高溫)에서 생체당(生體當) chlorophyll 함량(含量)이 많은 것은 이의 다수성(多收性)의 한 원인(原因)이며 chl. /S-N가 적은것은 엽신(葉身)의 저온(低溫)이나 비절(肥切)에 의(依)한 적변(赤變)의 한 원인(原因)이 될 것으로 보였다.

  • 무기물에서 유기물을 생산하는 곳으로서 뿐만 아니라 인류의 마지막 식량공급처로서의 해양에 대한 기초생산의 중요성이 날로 높아져 국제인도양조사때나 Kuroshio해역조사때 생산력이 측정되었고 북서태평양(Sorokin and Koblentz-Miskke; 1958, Ichimura and Saijo; 1959, Saijo and Ichimura; 1960, Aruga and Monsi; 1962, 천촌;1963), 인도네시아 주변해역(Doty et al;1963)등에서도 기초생산이 측정된 바 있다. 일본의 주요 9개만에서는 월별측정(송평 등;1964)이 되었다. 우리 나라 연안에서는 최와 정(1966)이 $C^{14}$를 이용하여 광합성량을 측청하였고 Kang(1967) 은 수영만에서 계절별로 산소소모에 의한 광합성량을 측정했다.다.

  • 본 실험에서 지베레린이 자운영의 생육및 내부 성분에 미치는 영향을 토양재배를 통하여 조사하였다. 잎에 살포한 지베레린의 비교적 적은 농도 차는 자운영의 내부 성분에 현저한 차이를 나타내고 생육의 증가는 지베레린의 농도증가에 관련되었다. 엽녹소 및 Carotene 함량은 지베레린 농도와 상반되고 생장율은 엽록소와 Carotene 함량과 크게 상반되었다. Carotene 함량은 엽록소량과 함께 변하였는데 엽록소와 Carotene의 비는 Beck와 Redman이 얻은 결과처럼 높지 않았다. 엽록소와 Vitamin C의 함량은 발육이 진전함을 따라 차이가 생기는데 이 차이는 엽록소만 유의하다. Anthocyanim 함량은 지베레린의 농도가 증가함에 따라 Sucrose 및 Reducing Sugar의 함량과 함께 감소되었다. Anthocyanim 함량은 Jacob Straus의 옥수수에 대한 실험 결과와 같이 많지 않다.

Growth and Chlorophyll Biosynthesis of Vigna angularis under Lead Stress

  • The effect of various supplies of lead singly and in combination with aluminium on growth and chlorophyll biosynthesis was investigated in 7-day-old Vigna anguluris seedlings. Expose to 50 $\mu$N Pb or more drastically reduced root elongation rate. Significant depressions in root growth was observed within 1 day and no recovery of growth was seen over the duration of treatment period. Root elongation decreased depending on the Pb concentrations. Root growth inhibition was stronger than shoot growth inhibition. The initiation of lateral roots appeared to be more sensitive to Pb than the growth of main roots. Inhibition of root and shoot elongation by Pb was lessened by combined exposure of Pb and Al, suggesting that the presence of AA reverse the inhibitory effect of Pb alone. With the histochemical sodium rhodizonate method the rate of Pb uptake was dependent on the Pb concentration and exposure time of the roots to Pb salts. Pb was first deposited on the root surface and then translocated radially in the root cap cells. During a longer Pb administration (up to 72 h) Pb penetration was nonuniform, with accumulation within the cortex or endodermis. There was drastic reduction in chlorophyll content by Pb. The Pb inhibition of chlorophyll synthesis was concentration dependent. 5-Aminolevulinic acid dehydratase (ALAD) activity exhibited distinct inhibition from control. Reduction in chlorophyll content was accompanied by proportional changes in ALAD activity. Chlorophyll content and ALAD activity were less affected by combined exposure of Pb and Al, suggesting that Al has a protective effect against the inhibiting action of Pb on photosynthetic activity.
