  • The structural integrity assessment of APR1400 (Advanced Power Reactor 1400) reactor vessel internals has been being performed referring the US Nuclear Regulatory Commission regulatory guide 1.20 comprehensive vibration assessment program prior to commercial operation. The program is composed of a hydraulic and structural analysis, a vibration measurement, and an inspection. This paper describes the hydraulic and structural analysis on the reactor vessel internals due to hydraulic loads caused by the turbulence of reactor coolant. Three-dimensional models were built for the hydraulic and structural analysis and then hydraulic loads and structural responses were predicted for five analysis cases with CFX and ANSYS respectively. The structural responses show that the APR1400 reactor vessel internals have sufficient structural integrity in comparison with the acceptance criteria.

  • The flow patterns in a stirred tank, 1m in diameter and 1 m in height, were studied using CFX, a commercial computational fluid dynamics program, with the impeller rotation speed, the impeller blade angle and the tank-bottom shape varied and the baffles included or excluded. A vortex was observed in the center of the tank in the absence of the baffles, and the intensity of the vortex increased with increasing the rotation speed. The vortex was considerably reduced in the presence of the baffles. An increase in the blade angle increased the vertical flow and decreased the vortex intensity. The flow in the corners of the tank bottom turned smoother as the tank bottom was varied in shape from flat to round.

  • In this study, the separation efficiency of wind power selector (the direction of the air flow of the air to perform gravity separation method) of municipal solid waste which was landfilled was investigated to reduce amount of waste that is designed to increase the recycling rate of wastes for the ANSYS CFX Program's numerical methods with wind through the separator. When a suction device designed to suction 1000mL of a plastic bag, the separation efficiency was 100% and when the wind speed was 0.9 m /sec or more and when the wind speed was 1.6 m / sec or more, the efficiency of plastic bottles in a mixture of 500mL and 1500mL plastic bottle waste was 100% and the aluminum screening efficiency of 250mL aluminum can was 100 % when the wind speed was 2.3 m / sec. In the last, 5mm thick compressed aluminum can efficiency was 90 % when the wind speed was 2.4 m / sec.

  • The performance and the internal flow of the impeller of the centrifugal chiller compressor with refrigerant R12 as working fluid were studied numerically, using CFD code, CFX-Tascflow, which is commercially available. In this numerical study, the thermodynamic and transport properties of the refrigerant gas were generated by the property program of NIST and linked with main program to extend the capability of the code to refrigerant gases. Numerical study was applied to several mass flow rates near the design mass flow rate at constant rotating speed. Overall performance and flow characteristics of the impeller at impeller exit were investigated. The results were physically reasonable and showed good agreement with experimental measurement at the design flow rate.

  • The objective of this study is to investigate the flow characteristics of polluted air behavior in rectangular tunnels using a PIV system and a commercial CFD program. The PIV experiments are simulated by using the olive oil as the tracer particles in scaled rectangular tunnels. Each model has one of four different outlet vents, each dimensionless L/H ratio of which is 0, 0.375, 0.75 and 1.125, respectively as the locations of each outlet are away from the vertical centerline through the inlet. A commercial CFD program, ANSYS CFX, was used to examine the velocity fields and the pressure distributions in numerical simulations. The kinematic viscosity of the air flow of $1.51{\times}10^{-5}m^2/s$ and the flow velocity of 0.3 m/s at the inlet are given under the same conditions in order to analyze the polluted air flow characteristics experimentally and computationally. This study is considered to examine the effect of the outlet locations in the naturally ventilated tunnel models.

  • The vibration and stress analysis program of comprehensive vibration assessment program(CVAP) is to theoretically verify the structural integrity of reactor vessel internals(RVI) and to provide the basis for selecting the locations monitored in measurement and inspection programs. This paper covers the applicability of the vibration and stress analysis method of APR1400 RVI CVAP. The analysis method was developed to use 3-dimensional detail hydraulic and structural models with ANSYS and CFX. To assess the method, the hydraulic loads and structural reponses of OPR1000 were predicted and compared with the measured data in the OPR1000 RVI CVAP. The results predicted with this method were close to the measured values considerably. Therefore, the analysis method was developed properly.

  • In this study, to avoid surging in the system as a way to ensure the proper discharge requires the design of the valve capacity rating objective is to develop a program. Approximation algorithm for the capacity evaluation is suggested. Loss coefficients obtained by the algorithm is calculated put in the governing equation for the valve flow coefficient and capacity. Calculated values were compared with numerical analysis results for the verifying their validity. The proven formula is created using Excel and it can be easily available the valve design engineers. Creation of analysis models were using a version of Unigraphics NX 4.0, numerical analysis were using a flow analysis commercial program ANSYS CFX 12.0 version. Equations were referenced 'Handbook of Hydraulic Resistance - 3rd Edition'.

  • This paper showed the difference in the optimum conditions by using the ANSYS CFX simulation program with the changes of the main-blade angle and sub-blade angle. Main-blade Shape 4,which had angle $45^{\circ}$ while other Shapes with angle $0^{\circ}$, was increased to 157.2[%] to 263.2[%] in the power and was increased to 110[%] to 250[%] in the power coefficient. Moreover, when the Shape 5 Fin length of main-blade doubled, the power was 70.8[%] when compared with Shape 1 and 27.5[%] with shape 4.If the main-blade geometry equals shape 1 in the case structure, The power of Case1 was increased to 13.3[%] when compared with Case2. Also, the power coefficient was increased to 15.4[%]. When sub-blade angle was $45^{\circ}$, main-blade was better than the Fin type than the Bended type. The power of Case4 was increased to 47[%] when compared with Csae1 and increased to 13.6[%] with Case 3. Also, the power coefficient was 46.7[%] when compared with Case 1 and 15.8[%] with Case 3.

  • The purpose of this study is to predict sloshing pressure of a actual tank by using measured pressure in scaled down tank and to evaluate with structural strength of LNG Corner Block. For this purpose, we performed sloshing analysis about 138K class tank by using Ansys CFX program, and were measured both average pressure and maximum peak pressure according to scaled tank ratio. Also, measured pressure was converted to pressure of the actual tank by Froude scale law, and we conducted the evaluation of structural strength about the conner block of actual size KC-1.
