In this research, to develope the A1 7075/CFRP multilayered hybrid composites, CRALL(Carbon Reinforced aluminum lamiate) specimens were processed by autoclavecuring system that curing temperature, time, surface pretreatment condition of aluminum were constant. Andthe fatigye life and failure mechanism on CFRP volume fraction and fiber orientation of CRALLspecimens were investigated. A fatigue life was greatly influenced by effect of CFRP fiber volume fraction but it was less effected than those of fiber orientation. The fatigue failure arised from interface delamination of CFRP and aluminum sheet after shear fracture of aluminum layer. The failure mechanism is assumed that the aluminum laminates which divide the CFRP into many thim layers tend to arrest the failure propagation.
The effectiveness of the use of modern repair schemes for the seismic retrofit of existing RC structures were assessed on a comparative experimental study of carbon fiber-reinforced polymer (CFRP) strips and sheets for the repair of reinforced concrete members of RC frames, damaged because of cyclic loading. Two virgin, single - story, one - bay, 1/3 - scale frame specimens were tested under cyclic horizontal loading, up to a drift level of 4%. Then, virgin specimens, B and F, respectively, were repaired and retested in the same way. One, specimen RB, was repaired with epoxy injections and CFRP strips and one, specimen RF, was repaired with epoxy injections and CFRP sheets. The two specimens are used to examine the differences between the structural behavior of frames repaired using CFRP strips and frames repaired using CFRP sheets. Both qualitative and quantitative conclusions, based on the observed maximum loads, loading and reloading stiffness, hysteretic energy absorption and failure mechanisms are presented and compared. The repaired frames recovered their strength, stiffness and energy dissipated reasonably. The use of CFRP sheets was found more effective than CFRP strips, due to the proper anchorage.

A CFRP sheet has been applied as a structural reinforcement in the field, and various studies are conducted to evaluate the effect of CFRP sheets on reinforced concrete. Although many experiments were performed from previous studies, there are still limitations to analyze structural behaviors with various parameters in experiments directly. This study shows the FEA on structural behaviors of RC beams reinforced with CFRP sheets using ABAQUS software. To simulate debonding failure of CFRP sheets which is a major failure mode of RC beam with CFRP sheets, a cohesive element was applied between the bottom surface of RC beam and CFRP sheets. Both quasi-static method and 2-D symmetric FE model technique were performed to solve nonlinear problems. Results obtained from the FE models show good agreements with experimental results. It was found that reinforcement level of CFRP sheets is closely related to structural behavior of reinforced concrete including maximum strength, initial stiffness and deflection at failure. Also, as over-reinforcement of CFRP sheets could give rise to the brittle failure of RCstructure using CFRP sheets, an appropriate measure should be required when installing CFRP sheets in the structure.
CFRP strips are widely used nowadays for repair/strengthening or capacity increase purposes. Sharp bending at the ends of the CFRP strips is frequently encountered at these applications. In this study, Reinforced Concrete (RC) beam specimens that were produced with 10 MPa compression strength concrete were strengthened by using bonded CFRP strips with end anchorages to tension region. The parameters that were investigated in this study are the width of the strip, the number of applied fan anchorages and whether additional layer of CFRP patch is used or not at the strip ends. Specimens were strengthened with 100 mm wide CFRP strips with one or two anchorages at the ends. In addition CFRP patch with two and three anchorages at the ends were tested for investigating the effect of the patches. Specimens that were strengthened with three anchorages at the ends with patches were repeated with 60 and 80 mm wide CFRP strips. The most successful result was obtained from the specimen that was strengthened with 80 mm wide CFRP strips with 3 end anchorages and patches among the others at the experimental program. The numbers of anchorages that were applied to ends of CFRP strips were more effective than the width of the CFRP strips onto strength and stiffness of the specimens. Due to limited space at the ends of the strips at most three anchorages could be applied.

Recently, many researches have been conducted about reinforced concrete structures strengthened with FRP plates. In case of structures strengthened with FRP plates, the issue of premature debonding FRP plate has been raised through many previous researches. The purpose of this paper is what structural behavior and flexaural capacity of reinforced concrete beams which are strengthened for flexure is investigated about the using secondary ironware in the method of external bonded CFRP plate, and the method of near surface mounted CFRP-Rod. Also, in order to evaluate flexural capacity, experiments of the reinforced concrete beams with exteranl bonded CFRP plate and near surface mounted CFRP-Rod have been compared and investigated.

This paper presents the stress distribution of the damaged butt joint of steel plate using CFRP laminates when the flange in tension zone of steel box girder is welded by butt welding. When CFRP sheets are patched on tension flange of steel-box girder, the stress distribution of a vertical and normal direction on damaged welding part is shown as parameters such as a variation of the thickness of adhesive, the overlap length with steel, and the modulus of elasticity of CFRP sheets. For the study, we wrote the computer program using the EAS(Enhanced assumed strain) finite element method for plane strain that has a very fast convergency and exact stress for distorted shape.

The purpose of this paper is to analyze the numerical simulation accuracy according to the CFRP modeling method in the CFRP-Al alloy SPR (Self-Piercing Rivet) joint process. The mechanical properties of the CFRP, aluminum sheet are precisely obtained from the tensile test according to the loading direction. Additionally, the hardening curve of rivet was calculated from the inverse analysis of the machined rivet-ring compression test. For the CFRP-Al alloy SPR simulation, two kinds of the CFRP modeling methods were established based on the continuum and layer-by-layer approaches. The simulation results showed that the CFRP layer-by-layer modeling method can provide more reliable prediction shape of the fractured sheets and deformed rivet. This simulation technique can be used in evaluating the CFRP-Metal SPR performance and designing the SPR process conditions.

In this study, CFRP(Carbon Fiber Reinforced Plastics) that has high specific strength and elastic modulus and low thermal strain was used as a material for the lightweight structural member. CFRP is a fiber material as anisotropic material. The anisotropic material is characterized by the change of its mechanical properties according to stacking orientation angle. CFRP orientation angle was oriented in [A/B]s in order to examine the effect of CFRP orientation angle on the characteristics of energy absorption. CFRP is very weak to the impact from the outside. So, when impact is applied to CFRP, its strength is rapidly lowered. The hybrid material was manufactured by combining CFRP to aluminum which is lightweight and widely used for structural members of the automobile. The hybrid member was shaped as a side member that could support the automobile engine and mount and absorb a large amount of impact energy at the front-end in case of automobile collision. The bending test device was manufactured in accordance with ASTM standard, and mounted to UTM for bending test. For comparing bending characteristics of the hybrid member with those of Aluminum and CFRP member, tests were performed for aluminum, CFRP and hybrid member, respectively.
In this study, the flexural behaviors of one- and two-way reinforced concrete (RC) slabs strengthened with carbon-fiber-reinforced polymer (CFRP) strips under impact loads were investigated. The flexural strengthening of RC slabs under simulated static monotonic loads has been comprehensively studied. However, the flexural behavior of RC slabs strengthened with CFRP strips has not been investigated extensively, particularly those conducted numerically. Nonlinear three-dimensional finite element models were developed, executed, and verified against previous experimental results, producing satisfactory models with approximately 4% error. The models were extended to a parametric study, considering three geometric parameters: the slab rectangularity ratio, CFRP strip width, and CFRP strip configuration. Finally, the main results were used to derive a new formula for predicting the total deflection of RC slabs strengthened with CFRP strips under impact loads with an error of approximately 10%. The proposed equation reflected the slab rectangularity, CFRP strip width, equivalent slab stiffness, and dropped weight. Results indicated that the use of CFRP strips enhanced the overall impact performance, the wider the CFRP width, the better the enhancement. Moreover, the application of diagonally oriented CFRP strips diminished the cracking zone compared to straight strips. Additionally, the diagonal orientation of CFRP strips was more efficient for two-way slabs while the vertical orientation was found to be better in the case of one-way slabs.

This research aims to investigate the superstructure characteristics of the CFRP-yachts whose hulls are made of the light-weight material CFRP. CFRP-yachts, which belong to light-weight yachts, have a tendency of having very small superstructures compared to other vessels of the same length, and such a tendency is closely related to stability. In this research, a comparison of shape characteristics was made between common composite-plastic yachts and CFRP-yachts to find out the shape characteristics of CFRP-yacht. In the meantime, a case study was conducted concerning shape changes in superstructure to understand the effect of such changes on stability. For this purpose the shapes of a total of 10 GFRP-yachts and CFRP-yachts were comparatively analyzed, and the result showed the tendency of their hulls and superstructures. Whereas the case study on stability assessment involved various superstructure shapes of CFRP yachts, for assessment by superstructure size. Stability assessment was according to ISO 12217 (Small craft Stability and buoyancy assessment and categorization). A program was also developed based on stability assessment process due to rolling in beam waves and wind, and it was applied to the case study. The result of the case study showed that the windage area distribution tendency of the yachts whose hulls were made of the light-weight material CFRP was similar to that of the GFRP-yachts, but that the superstructure shapes of the CFRP-yachts were about 50% smaller than those of the GFRP-yachts. In addition, the stability assessment involving various superstructure areas of the CFRP-yachts showed that problems with stability occurred when their superstructure sizes were similar to, or larger by about 10% than, those of the GFRP-yachts.
