This paper deploys optimization techniques to obtain the optimum hull form of KSUEZMAX at the conditions of full-load draft and design speed. The processes have been carried out using a RaPID-HOP program. The bow and the stern hull-forms are optimized separately without altering neither, and the resulting versions of the two are then combined. Objective functions are the minimum values of wave-making and viscous pressure resistance coefficients for the bow and stern. Parametric modification functions for the bow hull-form variation are SAC shape, section shape (U-V type, DLWL type), bulb shape (bulb height and size); and those for the stern are SAC and section shape (U-V type, DLWL type). WAVIS version 1.3 code is used for the potential and the viscous-flow solver. Prior to the optimization, a parametric study has been conducted to observe the effects of design parameters on the objective functions. SQP has been applied for the optimization algorithm. The model tests have been conducted at a towing tank to evaluate the resistance performance of the optimized hull-form. It has been noted that the optimized hull-form brings 2.4% and 6.8% reduction in total and residual resistance coefficients compared to those of the original hull-form. The propulsive efficiency increases by 2.0% and the delivered power is reduced 3.7%, whereas the propeller rotating speed increases slightly by 0.41 rpm.

The work presented in this paper concerns the aerodynamic characteristics and compression wave generated in a tunnel when a high speed train enters it. A large number of solutions have been proposed to reduce the amplitude of the pressure gradient in tunnels and some of the most efficient solutions consist of (a) addition ofa blind hood, (b) addition of inclined part at the entrance, and (c) holes in the ceiling of the tunnel. These are numerically studied by using the three-dimensional unsteady compressible Euler equation solver with ALE, CFD code, based on FEM method. Computational results showed that the smaller inclined angle leads to the lower pressure gradient of compression wave front. This study indicated that the most efficient slant angle is in the range from $30^{\circ}$ to $50^{\circ}$. The maximum pressure gradient is reduced by $26.81\%$ for the inclined angle of $30^{\circ}$ as compared to vertical entry. Results also showed that maximum pressure gradient can be reduced by $15.94\%$ in blind hood entry as compared to $30^{\circ}$ inclined tunnel entry. Furthermore, the present analysis showed that inclined slant angle has little effect on aerodynamic drag. Comparison of the pressure gradient between the inclined tunnel hood and the vertical entry with air vent holes indicated that the optimum inclined tunnel hood is much more effective way in reducing pressure gradient and increasing the pressure rise time.

Turbulent flows around two-dimensional wing sections in ground effect are analysed by incompressible RANS equations and a finite difference method. The Baldwin-Lomax algebraic turbulence model is used to simulate high Reynolds number flows. The main purpose of this study is to clarify the two-dimensional ground effect and its flow characteristics due to different ground boundary conditions, i.e., moving and fixed bottom boundary. As a first step, to validate the present numerical code, the computational result of Clark-Y(t/C 11.7%) is compared with published numerical results and experimental data. Then, NACA4412 section in ground effect is calculated for various ground clearances with two bottom boundary conditions. According to the computational results, the difference in the lift and moment simulated with the two bottom boundary conditions is negligible, but the drag force simulated by the fixed bottom is to some extent smaller than that by the moving bottom. Therefore, it can be concluded that the drag force measured in a wind tunnel with the fixed bottom could be smaller than that with the moving bottom.

The present study investigated numerically heat and mass transfer characteristics of a fixed bed reactor by using a computational fluid dynamics (CFD) code of Fluent (ver. 13.0). The temperature and species fraction were estimated for different porosities. For modeling of the catalyst in a fixed bed tube, catalysts were regarded as the porous material, and the empirical correlation of pressure drop based on the modified Eugun equation was used for simulation. In addition, the averaged porosities were taken as 0.545, 0.409, and 0.443 and compared with non-porous state. The predicted results showed that the temperature at the tube wall became higher than that estimated along the center line of tube, leading to higher hydrogen generation by the endothermic reaction and heat transfer. As the mean porosity increases, the hydrogen yield and the outlet temperature decreased because of the pressure drop inside the reformer tube.
The purpose of this study is safety evaluation of solar energy generation which is installed on the canopy at the LPG filling station. in case of a gas station, the solar energy generation was become legalization through a related law reform in 2008. Also, in case of a LPG filling station, the solar energy generation was become legalization through a related law reform in 2015. So, the related law that KGS CODE and Safety control of dangerous substances law and the case of installed solar energy generation in gas, LPG filling station was investigated. two scenarios are supposed for the CFD. Release of safety valve pipeline and ruptured dispenser leakage are the scenarios. The FLACS which developed GexCon in Norway was used for simulation. LPG dispersion to the upper side of canopy was very small with safety distance.
The main objective of this study is to investigate the turning and zig-zag maneuvering performance of the well-known naval surface combatant DTMB (David Taylor Model Basin) 5415 hull with URANS (Unsteady Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes) method. Numerical simulations of static drift tests have been performed by a commercial RANS solver based on a finite volume method (FVM) in an unsteady manner. The fluid flow is considered as 3-D, incompressible and fully turbulent. Hydrodynamic analyses have been carried out for a fixed Froude number 0.28. During the analyses, the free surface effects have been taken into account using VOF (Volume of Fluid) method and the hull is considered as fixed. First, the code has been validated with the available experimental data in literature. After validation, static drift, static rudder and drift and rudder tests have been simulated. The forces and moments acting on the hull have been computed with URANS approach. Numerical results have been applied to determine the hydrodynamic maneuvering coefficients, such as, velocity terms and rudder terms. The acceleration, angular velocity and cross-coupled terms have been taken from the available experimental data. A computer program has been developed to apply a fast maneuvering simulation technique. Abkowitz's non-linear mathematical model has been used to calculate the forces and moment acting on the hull during the maneuvering motion. Euler method on the other hand has been applied to solve the simultaneous differential equations. Turning and zig-zag maneuvering simulations have been carried out and the maneuvering characteristics have been determined and the numerical simulation results have been compared with the available data in literature. In addition, viscous effects have been investigated using Eulerian approach for several static drift cases.

MCFC(molten carbonate fuel cell) power generation system is prime candidate for the utilization of fossil based fuels to generate ultra clean power with a high efficiency. In the MCFC power plant system, a combustor performs a role to supply high temperature mixture gases for cathode and heat for reformer by using the stack off-gas of the anode which includes a high concentration of $H_2O$ and $CO_2$. Since a combustor needs to be operated in a very lean condition and to avoid excessive local heating, catalytic combustor is usually used. The catalytic combustion is accomplished by the catalytic chemical reaction between fuel and oxidizer at catalyst surface, different from conventional combustion. In this study, a mathematical model for the prediction of internal flow and catalytic combustion characteristics in the catalytic combustor adopted in the MCFC power plant system is suggested by using the numerical methods. The numerical simulation models are then implemented into the commercial CFD code. After verifying result by comparing with the experimental data and calibrated kinetic parameters of catalytic combustion reaction, a numerical simulation is performed to investigate the variation of flow and combustion characteristics by changing such various parameters as inlet configuration and inlet temperature. The result show that the catalytic combustion can be effectively improved for most of the case by using the perforated plate and subsequent stable catalytic combustion is expected.

Computational studies of accelerating flow around 2D Circular Cylinder was performed to investigate characteristics of wake field and drag forces. Previous studies had revealed that drag on the cylindrical body in accelerating flow is much greater than that in the flow with constant velocity; however, the underlying physics on the drag increase has not been clearly investigated. In order to investigate the drag increase and its relationship with wake development, this study employed a finite-volume based CFD code, Fluent 13.0 with k-ω SST model for turbulence effects. Inflows are modeled with varied accelerations from 0.4905 to 9.81m/s2. The drag computed in the present study is in good agreement with previous studies, and clearly shows the increase compared to the drag on the body in the flow with constant velocity. The results also show that drag crisis observed at high Reynolds number in the case of the flow with constant velocity is also found in the case of accelerating flow. The analysis for wake and recirculation length shows that conventional vortex shedding does not occur even at high Reynolds number and the drag increase is larger at higher acceleration.

The performance of the crossover system of a centrifugal compressor stage consisting of static components of $180^{\circ}$ U-bend, return channel vanes and exit ducting with a $90^{\circ}$ bend is investigated. This study is confined to the assessment of performance of the crossover system by varying the shape of the return channel vanes. For this purpose two different types of Return Channel Vanes (RCV1 and RCV2) were experimentally investigated. The performance of the crossover system is discussed in terms of total pressure loss coefficient, static pressure recovery coefficient and vane surface pressure distribution. The experimentation was carried out on a test setup in which static swirl vanes were used to simulate the flow at the exit of an actual centrifugal compressor impeller with a design flow coefficient of 0.053. The swirl vanes are connected to a mechanism with which the flow angle at the inlet of U-bend could be altered. The measurements were taken at five different operating conditions varying from 70% to 120% of design flow rate. On an overall assessment RCV1 is found to give better performance in comparison to RCV2 for different U-bend inlet flow angles. The performance of RCV2 was verified using numerical studies with the help of a CFD Code. Three dimensional sector models were used for simulating the flow through the crossover system. The turbulence was predicted with standard k-$\varepsilon$, 2-equation model. The iso-Mach contour plots on different planes and development of secondary flows were visualized through this study.
