  • Recently SARS and bird flu has been infected widely in the world; we have to care about germs and virus in indoor air environment. Especially that transmission by means of transportation is a major infection route. In this study, a private car simulated with CFD for prediction of indoor airborne microbe transport. Simulation performed with real situation in car, four occupants with a infected driver and four stage air ventilation controled by HVAC system. Result show that CFD can be visualized microbe transport other occupants and who is more exposed to airborne microbe. also it make a prediction of microbe transport in car.

  • This study conducted CFD analysis on the mean velocity vector of distribution of the ejector driven pipe while changing the inlet velocity to 1 m/s at the diameter ratio of diffuser of 1:3, 1:2.25, 1:1.8 with the end position of driven pipe at 1, 1.253, 1.333, 1.467 respectively, which used $k-{\varepsilon}$/High Reynolds Number for the turbulence model, SIMPLE method for the analysis algorithm, and PIV experiment to verify the CFD analysis. As a result of the CFD analysis the optimum diameter ratio of ejector driven pipe was 1:3, the optimum end position of driven pipe was 1.333 for the diameter ratio of 1:3, 1:2.25, 1:1.8 and the PIV experiment obtained the same result as the CFD analysis. Therefore, the numerical analysis of the flow characteristics of ejector can be used for the optimum design implementation on ejector system.

  • This paper presents the state of the art of computational structures technology(CST) and comparison of two computational mechanics - CST and CFD, to the CFD engineers. Classical mechanics is based on the five classical axioms which describe the motion and behaviors of the continuum materials like solid structures and fluids. Computational structures technology uses the finite element method to solve the governing equation, whereas finite volume method is generally used in CFD. A few famous commercial structural analysis programs and DIAMOND/IPSAP will be introduced. DIAMOND/IPSAP is the efficient parallel structural analysis package developed by our research team. DIAMOND/IPSAP shows the better performance than the commercial structural analysis software not only in the parallel computing environments but also in a single computer.

  • This is a short review of how CFD contributed to hypersonic flights in the past 50 years. Two unexpected phenomena that occurred in the entry flights of the Apollo and Space Shuttle made us aware of the impact of the high temperature real-gas effects on hypersonic flights: pitching moment anomaly of up to 4 degrees, and radiation overshoot behind a shock wave. The so-called two-temperature nonequilibrium model was introduced to explain these phenomena. CFD techniques were developed to accommodate the two-temperature model. Presently, CFD can predict trim angle of attack to an accuracy of about 1 degree. A concerted effort was made to numerically reproduce the experimentally measured flow-field over a double-cone. As yet, perfect agreement between the experimental data and computation is not achieved. Scramjet technology development is disappointingly slow. The phenomenon of ablation during planetary entries is not yet predicted satisfactorily. In the future, one expects to see more research carried out on planetary entries and space tourism.

  • Computational methods can be classified roughly into two parts: one is the methods based on a potential flow theory, and the other is numerical solvers(CFD) based on Navier-Stockes equation. Methods based on a potential theory are more effective than CFD when the free surface effect is considered. Especially Rankine source method seems to become widespread for simulations of wave making problems. For computations of viscous flow problems, CFD techniques have rapidly been developed and have shown many successful results in the viscous flow calculation. Present paper introduces a computational system 'WAVIS' which includes a pre-processor, potential ant viscous flow solvers and a post-processor. To validate the system, the calculated results for modem commercial hull forms are compared with measurements. It is found that the results from the system are in good agreement with the experimental data, illustrating the accuracy of the numerical methods employed for WAVIS.

  • A series of simulations were carried out to test the accuracy of a CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) model for flow and dispersion problems around buildings. The basic equations involved are Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes equations. Two different cases were selected to estimate the accuracy of a CFD model. Case 1 adopted Euler equations, which are obtained by neglecting the viscous fluxes, which can be closed by the $textsc{k}$-$\varepsilon$model for a turbulent close problem. The results of both cases were compared with wind tunnel data. The results for Case 2 were closer to the wind both cases were compared with wind tunnel data. The results for Case 2 were closer to the wind tunnel data than Case 1. Accordingly, this indicates that the inclusion of viscous fluxes in a CFD model is required for the simulation of flow and 야spersion around buildings.

  • A commercial CFD code is used to compute the 3-D viscous flow field within the impeller of a centrifugal pump. Several preliminary numerical calculations are carried out to determine the influence of the parameters such as the grid systems, the numerical schemes, the turbulence models and the shape of the vaneless diffusers at the design flow rate. The results of the preliminary study are used for the calculation of the off-design flow conditions. The circumferentially averaged results such as the radial and tangential velocities, the exit flow angle, the slip factor, the static pressure and the total pressure are compared with the experimental data at the impeller exit to discuss the influence of the prescribed parameters.

  • In present 3D CFD study, the method for determining leakage and rotordynamic coefficients of a plain-gas seal is suggested by using the relative coordinate system for steady-state simulation. In order to find the effect of pre-swirl speed at seal inlet, pre-swirl velocity is included as a parameter. Present analysis is verified by comparison with results acquired from Bulk-flow analysis code and published experimental results. The results of 3D CFD rotordynamic coefficients of direct stiffness(K) and cross-coupled stiffness(k) show improvements in prediction. As pre-swirl speed at seal inlet increases, k also increases to destabilize system. However, pre-swirl speed at seal inlet does not show sensitivity to the leakage and rotordynamic coefficients of K and damping(C).

  • In this study, STAR-CD-based CFD techniques was used to analyze velocity distribution and pressure distribution according to the variation of angels at $45^{\circ}$, $60^{\circ}$ and $90^{\circ}$ a suction pipe when inlet velocity condition is 1 m/s. SIMPLE maritime law used for analytical algorithm and the results of CFD analysis evaluated by particle image velocimetry (PIV). The results of CFD analysis in this study have revealed that the optimal angle of a suction pipe for a jet pump is $90^{\circ}$ and the PIV test has showed the same results. Therefore, it is thought that when CFD is used to analyze the flow characteristics of a jet pump it would be possible to produce optimal designs of its devices.
