In a TDD system, the length of slots can be unequal, and the number of downlink (DL) and uplink (UL) slots per frame can be different as well. The advantage of using TDD is the capability to accommodate asymmetric high-bit-rate services for the DL and It, which will be one of the prominent features in 4G systems. This paper analyzes the performance of TDD system on mobile channel environments like indoor pedestrian and vehicular channel, and proposes optimum modulation/demodulation method in TDD system. A rectangular QAM (RQAM) used in various communication systems has good BER performance but the much more signal amplitudes also have become one of the barriers to implement receiver. While PSK receiver is implemented easily because it has a constant amplitude, but it's BER performance is worse than RQAM. APSK proposed in this paper integrates merits of RQAM and PSK, and minimizes demerits of then And a simple method is also proposed to demodulate the soft symbol. The results indicate that the proposed APSK has a little worse performance than RQAM but the dynamic range of APSK is about 4 dB, 8 dB better than RQAM at 16-ary, 64-ary modulation/demodulation respectively.

An orthogonal code hopping multiplexing (OCHM) technique has been proposed for accommodating a large number of users with low channel activities than the number of orthogonal codewords through statistical multiplexing in downlink cellular systems. In this paper, a multiple input multiple output (MIMO) antenna based OCHM system is proposed to improve the performance. Each modulated symbol is repeated N times and the N repeated symbols are transmitted simultaneously using N transmit antennas. Through repetitions, the effect of perforations that the OCHM system experiences is decentralized among the repeated symbols and the full perforation probability is significantly reduced. Each receiver detect the transmitted signal using its pre-assigned code hopping pattern. Simulation results show that the proposed scheme saves the required energy for a given frame error rate (FER).

In this paper, we described the simulation results of the phase offset performance of a clock in holdover mode which was normally operated in GPS Disciplined Oscillator (GPSDO). In the TIE model, we included the time error term caused by environmental temperature variation because one of the most important parameters of clock phase error is the frequency offset and drift caused by the variation of temperature. For the simulation, we employed Maximum Time Interval Error (MTIE) for the performance evaluation when the frequency offset and drift are estimated by using an Unbiased Finite Impulse Response (UFIR) filter with ladder algorithm. We assumed that the noise in the GPS measurement is white Gaussian with zero mean and 1 ns standard deviation, and temperature linearly varies with a slope of $1{^{\circ}C}$ per hour. From the simulation results, the followings were observed. First, with the estimation error of temperature of less than 3 % and the temperature compensation period of less than 900 seconds, the requirement of CDMA2000 phase synchronization under 10 us could be achieved for more than 40,000 seconds holdover time if we employ an OCXO (Oven Controlled Crystal Oscillator) clock. Second, in order to achieve the requirement of LTE-TDD under 1.5 us for more than 10,000 seconds holdover time, below 3 % estimation error and 500 seconds should be retained if a Rubidium clock is adopted.

Activated sludge processes are widely used in biological wastewater treatment processes. The main motivation of this research is to develop an intelligent control strategy for activated sludge process (ASP). ASP is a complex and nonlinear dynamic system because of the characteristic of wastewater, the change in influent rate, weather conditions, and so on. The mathematical model of ASP also includes uncertainties which are ignored or not considered by process engineer or controller designer. The ASP model based on Matlab/Simulink is designed in this paper. The performance of the model is tested by IWA (International Water Association) and COST (European Cooperation in the filed of Scientific and Technical Research) data that include steady-state results during 14 days. In this paper, fuzzy logic control approach is applied to control the DO (dissolved oxygen) concentration. The fuzzy logic controller that includes two inputs and one output can adjust air flowrate. Also, this paper introduces the remote monitoring and control system that is applied for the CSTR (Continuously Stirred Tank Reactor) wastewater treatment system. The CSTR plant has a local control and the remote monitoring system which is contained communication parts which consist of LAN (Local Area Network) network and CDMA (Code Division Multiple Access) wireless module. Remote control and monitoring systems are constructed in the laboratory.

In this paper, we combine AMC (Adaptive Modulation and Coding) with MIMO (Multiple Input Multiple Output) multiplexing to improve the throughput performance of AMC in Next Generation Communication Mobile Systems. In addition, we propose a system that adopts STD (Selection Transmit Diversity) in the combined system. The received SNR (Signal to Noise Ratio) is improved by adopting STD techniques and an improved SNR increases a probability of selecting MCS (Modulation and Coding Scheme) level that supports higher data rate. The computer simulation is performed in flat Rayleigh fading channel. The results show that higher throughput is achieved by AMC-TD schemes. AMC-STTD scheme shows about 250kbps increase in throughput. And AMC-STD with 2 transmit antennas achieves about 420 kbps throughput improvement over the conventional AMC at 9dB SNR.

This study seeks to improve NFRDI Serial Oceanographic observation (NSO) system which has been operated at current observation stations in the Korean Seas since 1961 and suggests the direction of NSO for practical use of Korean operational oceanographic system. For improvement, data handling by human after CTD (Conductivity-Temperature-Depth) observation on the deck, data transmission, data reception in the land station, and file storage into database need to be automated. Software development to execute QA/QC (Quality Assurance/Quality Control) of real-time oceanographic observation data and to transmit the data with conversion to appropriate format automatically will help to accomplish the automation. Inmarsat satellite telecommunication systems with which have already been equipped on board the current observation vessels can realize the real-time transmission of the data. For the near real-time data transmission, CDMA (Code Division Multiple Access) wireless telecommunication can provide efficient transmission in coastal area. Real-time QA/QC procedure after CTD observation will help to prevent errors which can be derived from various causes.

Two frequency-reconfigurable antennas have been designed and combined in a space with limited volume, i.e., 40mm ${\times}$ 20mm ${\times}$ 6mm. Each antenna can be reconfigured to operate at different frequency bands depending on the state of an embedded switch, which is implemented using a PIN diode. The first antenna can be switched between 0.82GHz ${\sim}$ 0.96GHz band (GSM/ CDMA) and 1.7GHz ${\sim}$ 2.17GHz band (DCS/ PCS/ WCDMA), which are cellular bands. The second antenna can be switched between 3.4GHz ${\sim}$ 3.6GHz band (mWiMax) and 2.3GHz ${\sim}$ 2.5GHz, 5.15GHz ${\sim}$ 5.35GHz bands (WiBro/ WLAN 11a/b/g/n), which are connectivity bands. The proposed combined antenna operates both over cellular bands and connectivity bands concurrently. The choice of the operation bands is made independently by the states of the two switches.

In recent years most of personalized recommender systems in electronic commerce utilize collaborative filtering algorithm in order to recommend more appropriate items. User-based collaborative filtering is based on the ratings of other users who have similar preferences to a user in order to predict the rating of an item that the user hasn't seen yet. This nay decrease the accuracy of prediction because the similarity between two users is computed with respect to the two users and only when an item has been rated by the users. In item-based collaborative filtering, the preference of an item is predicted based on the similarity between the item and each of other items that have rated by users. This method, however, uses the ratings of users who are not the neighbors of a user for computing the similarity between a pair of items. Hence item-based collaborative filtering may degrade the accuracy of a recommender system. In this paper, we present a new approach that a user's neighborhood is used when we compute the similarity between the items in traditional item-based collaborative filtering in order to compensate the weak points of the current item-based collaborative filtering and to improve the prediction accuracy. We empirically evaluate the accuracy of our approach to compare with several different collaborative filtering approaches using the EachMovie collaborative filtering data set. The experimental results show that our approach provides better quality in prediction and recommendation list than other collaborative filtering approaches.

This paper concentrates on developing and analyzing an advanced space-time multiuser receiver for WCDMA forward link. Through exploring the interference caused by co-channel users and delayed multipaths in CDMA, a constrained linear adaptive filter is adopted to cancel the interference. Furthermore, by utilizing the space-time diversity, an optimum diversity receiver, called a constrained adaptive space-time interference canceller (C-ASTIC), is proposed. For comparison, the statistical analysis of multiuser performance for WCDMA system with space-time diversity is described. The result of the simulation showed that C-ASTIC performs better than both the space-time diversity combining maximal ratio combiner (MRC) and the single-antenna adaptive interference canceller in a multipath fading channel. Also, the efficiency of the C-ASTIC in the multimedia communication environment is investigated under the multiuser, multi-transmit antenna, and multirate WCDMA system in a multipath fading channel. From the results, the C-ASTIC was validated to be useful for multi-rate WCDMA system through improving the performance gain by more than 3 dB at BER of 10$\^$-3/ in a half or more loaded system.

In the asynchrous OFCDM(Orthogonal Frequency and Code Division Multiplexing) system, a three-step cell search algorithm is performed for the initial synchronization in the following three steps: OFCDM symbol timing, i.e., Fast Fourier Transform(FFT) window timing is estimated employing guard interval (GI) correlation in the first step, then the frame timing and CSSC (Cell Specific Scrambling Code) group is detected by taking the correlation of the CPICH(Common Pilot Channel) based on the property yeilded by shifting the CSSC phase in the frequency domain. Finally, the CSSC phase within the group is identified in the third step. This paper proposes a modification code(PCSSCG:Patial Cell Specific Scrambling Code Group) of the conventional CPICH based cell search algorithm in the second step which offers MS(Mobile Station) complexity reductions with the nearly same performance. The proposed method is to be compared and verified through the computer simulation.
