The immune correlate of host resistance induced by reinfection of Trichinella spiralis remains unclear. In this study, we investigated immune correlates between the resistance and serum IgG antibody level, $CD23^+$$IgM^+$ B cells, and eosinophil responses induced by T. spiralis reinfection. Mice were primarily infected with 10 or 100 T. spiralis larvae (10 TS, 100 TS), respectively, and after 4 weeks, they were challenge infected with 100 T. spiralis larvae (10-100 TS, 100-100 TS). Upon challenge infections, 10-100 TS mice induced significantly higher levels of T. spiralis-specific total IgG antibody responses in sera and antibody secreting cell responses in spleens compared to 100-100 TS mice, resulting in significantly reduced worm burdens in 10-100 TS mice (60% and 70% reductions for adult and larvae, respectively). Higher levels of eosinophils were found in mice primarily infected with 10 TS compared to those of 100 TS at week 8 upon challenge. $CD23^+$$IgM^+$ B cells were found to be increased significantly in mice primarily infected with 10 TS. These results indicate that primary infection of 10 larvae of T. spiralis, rather than 100 larvae, induces significant resistance against reinfection which closely correlated with T. spiralis-specific IgG, eosinophil, and $CD23^+$$IgM^+$ B cell responses.
The effect of feeding a cyclic oligosaccharide, $\beta$-cyclodextrin($\beta$CD) on plasma cholesterol and triacylglyceride concentrations and on antithrombotic activity were investigated in rats fed a control chow diet, or one either high in cholesterol or in saturated fat. The bleeding time of $\beta$CD-fed groups was significantly prolonged by 293%, 157% and 218% in normal, high cholesterol and high fat diet fed groups, respectively, as compared to the control group(p<0.05). The whole blood clotting time was significantly increased by 202%, 168% and 211% in normal, high cholesterol and high fat diet fed groups as compared to control group, respectively(p<0.05). The $\beta$CD diet caused a marked decrease in plasma total lipid(TL), triacylglyceride(TAG), total cholesterol (TC) and low density lipoprotein- cholesterol (LDL-C) concentrations. The plasma TL concentration was significantly decreased by 70%, 82% and 87% in normal, high cholesterol and high fat diet fed groups as compared to the control group, respectively(p<0.05). The plasma TAG concentration was significantly decreased by 89%, 43% and 59% in normal, high cholesterol and high fat diet fed groups, respectively, as compared to the control group(p<0.05). The plasma TC concentration was significantly decreased by 28%, 62% and 36% in normal, high cholesterol and high fat diet fed groups, respectively, as compared to the control group(p<0.05). The LDL-C concentration was significantly decreased by 39%, 54% and 25% in normal, high cholesterol and high fat diet fed groups as compared to control group, respectively(p<0.05). The plasma total bile acids contents of $\beta$CD group was significantly increased by 66%, 95% and 97% in normal, high cholesterol and high fat diet fed groups as compared to control group, respectively(p<0.05). The hepatic HMG-CoA reductase activity was significantly lowered by 41% in the $\beta$CD-fed group compared to normal diet fed rats(p<0.05). The fecal steroid excretions of the $\beta$CD groups was significantly increased by 167% in normal diet fed rats(p<0.05). These results suggest that the $\beta$CD has a biological active function on antithrombotic activity and is hypolipidemic, hypotriglyceridemic and hypocholesterolimic agents. These are all effects that can help to prevent obesity and coronary heart disease in humans.
This research was conducted to test cadmium tolerance by five speices of native herbs for screening cadmium tolerance plant. We examined germination rate, root and shoot growth rate of seedling, fresh biomass of native herbs exposed to cadmium solution for 14 days. Especially, germination rate of Abutilon avicennae and Amaranthus retroflexus was over 90% in all concentration, but germination rate of Aeschynomene indica, Echinochloa crus-galli var. oryzicola and Echinochla crus-galli var. frumentacea began to decrease when they exposed to 15 mgCdSO₄ /L. The higher the Cd concentration, the length of root, shoot grew lower. The fresh biomass of Echinochloa crus-galli var. oryzicola, Echinochla crus-galli var. frumentacea and Amaranthus retro-flexus were not so different from each control, but those of Abutilon avicennae and Aeschynomene indica began to decrese greatly when exposed to 60 mgCdSO₄ /L. EC/sub 50/(Effective Concentration 50%) of Abutilon avicennae, Aeschynomene indica and Amaranthus retroflexus was 44.6∼77.5 mgCdSO₄ /L for root growth, 38.6∼114 mgCdSO₄ /L for shoot growth, 60∼107.5 mgCdSO₄ /L for fresh biomass. Among the native herbs, sensitivity of cadmium ordered as root length > fresh biomass > shoot length. These results indicate that Abutilon avicennae is a tolerant species for cadmium.
Several chemical washing procedures were applied to Zn and Cd contaminated soil. Batch and column tests were performed to determine the metal extraction efficiency as a function of pH and concentration. Washing efficiencies by water and NaOH are very low but those by HCI, EDTA and Oxalic acid are high. The most efficient washing occurs in case of using HCI because heavy metal is ionized easily at the condition of low pH. EDTA and Oxalic acid are also effective to extract Zn and Cd because they have a high complexation affinity for heavy metals forming active surface complexes. More Zn is released than Cd is and release trend is increased as pH is decreased and concentration of washing solution is increased. When heavy metal contaminated soil is remediated, HCI and EDTA are more effective to remove Zn than others are. Meanwhile HCI and Oxalic acid are more effective to remove Cd than others are.

The papillary patterned lesion of thyroid may be challenging with many diagnostic pitfalls. Tumor stroma plays an important part in the determination of the tumor phenotype. CD34 is thought to be involved in the modulation of cell adhesion and signal transduction as CD34(+) fibrocytes are potent antigen-presenting cells. Smooth muscle actin (SMA) positivity could be diagnostic for fibroblast activation during tumorigenesis. We aimed to examine the expression of CD34 and alphaSMA in the stroma of papillary thyroid hyperplasia, papillary thyroid carcinoma and papillary tumors of uncertain malignant potential in order to elucidate their possible differential distribution and roles. A total number of 54 cases with papillary thyroid lesions were studied by routine H&E staining, CD34 and ASMA immunostaining. ASMA was not expressed in benign papillary hyperplastic lesions while it was expressed in papillary carcinoma, indicating that tumors have modulated stroma. Although the stroma was not well developed in papillary lesions with equivocal features of uncertain potentiality, CD34 was notable in such cases with higher incidence in malignant cases. So ASMA as well as CD34 could predict neoplastic behavior, pointing to the importance of the stromal role. Differences between groups suggest that the presence of CD34 + stromal cells is an early event in carcinogensis and is associated with neoplasia, however ASMA+ cells are more likely to be associated with malignant behavior and metastatic potential adding additional tools to the light microscopic picture helping in diagnosis of problematic cases with H&E.
In this study, we investigated the clean appearance and good stretch properties. Usually, clean appearance concerned with the dyeing properties of core and effect yarns. The dyeing properties between core yarn (conjugate yarn) and effect yarn were determined by the build-up and the color differences using the four different yarns of SDY FD(spindraw yarn full dull), SDY CD(spindraw yarn cation dyeable), POY FD( partially-oriented yarn full dull) and POY CD(partially-oriented yarn cation dyeable). We used the single color dye of C. I. Disperse Blue 79 and mixed colors made by C. I. Disperse Red 60, C. I. Disperse Blue 56, and C. I. Disperse Yellow 54.
Solutions of $Ni^{2+}$ and $Cd^{2+}$ were mixed with the solutions of various dibasic organic acids in the presence of cation exchange resin at room temperature. The distribution ratios of the metal ions between resin and solution were measured, using radioactive metal ions as tracer. From the observed variation of the distribution ratios with acid anion concentrations, it was concluded that $Ni^{2+}$ and $Cd^{2+}$ formed one-to-one complexes with succinate, malonate, o-phthalate and tartarate ions in aqueous, 20 % ethanol-water and 20 % acetone-water solutions. The results of the present study indicated that the relative stabilities of the complexes in solution increased generally in the order : $Ni^{2+}$ < $Cd^{2+}$ complexes. Succinate < malonate < o-phthalate < tartarate complexes. Aqueous < mixed solvent systems.
Compton imaging is the main method for locating radioactive hot spots emitting high-energy gamma-ray photons. In particular, this imaging method is crucial when the photon energy is too high for coded-mask aperture imaging methods to be effective or when a large field of view is required. Reconstruction of the photon source requires advanced Compton event processing algorithms to determine the exact position of the source. In this study, we introduce a novel method based on a Deep Learning algorithm with a Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) to perform Compton imaging. This algorithm is trained on simulated data and tested on real data acquired with Caliste, a single planar CdTe pixelated detector. We show that performance in terms of source location accuracy is equivalent to state-of-the-art algorithms, while computation time is significantly reduced and sensitivity is improved by a factor of ~5 in the Caliste configuration.
The Cd0.95Mn0.05Te0.98Se0.02 (CMTS) ingot was grown by the vertical Bridgman technique at low pressure. All wafers showed high resistivity, which suggests potential as a room-temperature semiconductor detector. The resistivity of the CMTS planar detector was 1.47 × 1010 Ω·cm and mobility lifetime product of electrons was 1.29 × 10-3 cm2/V. The spectroscopic property with Am-241 and Co-57 was evaluated. The energy resolution about 59.5 keV gamma-ray of Am-241 was 11% and the photo-peak of 122 keV gamma-ray from Co-57 was clearly distinguished. The result shows the first detector-grade CMTS in the world and proves CMTS's potential as a radiation detector operating at room temperature.
Parylene coating was adopted on CdZnTe (CZT) detector as a mechanical protection layer after wet passivation with hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) and ammonium fluoride (NH4F). Wet chemical passivant lose their effectiveness when exposed to the ambient conditions for a long time. Parylene coating could protect the effectiveness of passivation, by mechanically blocking the exposure to the ambient conditions. Stability of CZT detector was tested with the measurement of leakage current density and response to radio-isotopes. When the enough thickness of parylene (>100 ㎛) is adopted, parylene is a promising protection layer thereby ensuring the performance and long-term stability of CZT detectors.
