Development of the Evaluation Checklists for Quality of Educational Softwares - CD-ROM titles and softwares on the internet - (교육용 소프트웨어 품질평가를 위한 평가지의 개발 -CD-ROM 타이틀과 인터넷 상의 소프트웨어를 중심으로-)

  • We have developed three evaluation checklists of educational softwares for users such as, learners, teachers and parents, not for the software develops or designers. This study has especially focused on CD-ROM titles and softwares on the internet. The followings were selected as the essential attributes that the educational softwares of high quality should possess : ease of use, technical support and interest of learning for learners, educational value and smartness for teachers, packaging integrity, investment value and childproof for parents. The evaluation checklists were developed on the basis of evaluation criteria which were concretion of the essential attributes. The validity of the evaluation checklists was supported by a theoretical study for the development of ckecklists and the actual development process. The interrater reliability and the retest reliability were confirmed by statistical methods. Thus, the developed checklists can be a useful tool to evaluate educational softwares. This study will contribute to improvement of the software quality and help users in selecting educational softwares.

  • 이 글에서는 디지털 아카이브 되거나 데이터베이스화 되어있는 영상정보의 저장규모와 이용 시장에 대하여 기술한다. 현재, CD-ROM 타이틀, 비디오 CD 및 DVD 타이틀과 인터네트를 통한 부분적인 이용에 그치고 있는 디지털 영상정보는 무어의 법칙을 따르는 컴퓨터 프로세서 성능 증대, 50 만원대에 20GB용량을 가지는 광자기 디스크의 출현처럼 계속 확장되고 있는 저장용량, Gigabit LAN의 등장과 같이 지속적으로 확대되는 통신 네트워크의 전달용량, 영상기반 렌더링을 이용하는 새로운 가상세계 구축기술 등 그 활용을 가속시키는 여러 요인들에 의해 용도가 큰 폭으로 증가하고 있다. 이에 따라 영상정보는 교육, 의료 등 기본적인 생환산업 분야를 비롯하여 여러 산업 분야의 경쟁력을 강화시킬 수 있는 정보원으로서의 근간이 될 것이다. 이러한 발전의 지속은 기술에 의해서만 보장될 수 있으므로, 영상정보의 디지털 처리, 디스플레이, 저장 등의 디지털 아카이브 관련 기술과 디지털 영상정보의 편집, 저작, 검색, 전송 등에 관련된 분야의 기술 확보를 어떻게 대비해야 할 것인가가 중요한 과제이다.

  • 초고속정보통신 홍보부문 전담기관인 한국정보문화센터에서는 지난 1월 초고속정보통신 홍보용 CD-ROM 타이틀을 제작하여, 초고속계획과 관련된 정부/공공기관, 각급대학, 언론기관 등에 배포하였다. 이 타이틀은 초고속정보통신기반구축이라는 국가적 사업에 대해 일반 국민과 산,학,연 등 관계자들의 이해의 폭을 넓히고 다함께 참여할 수 있게 하는데 도움이 되도록 그 추진방향과 세부계획을 보여주고 있다. 그리고 국내외의 초고속정보통신망구축계획과 관련된 정보 및 가상으로 꾸며본 2005년의 '초고속 씨' 일가족의 하루일과 등을 생생한 멀티미디어 정보로 표현하고 있어 보는 이로 하여금 흥미로움을 더해주고 있다. 아울러 인터넷의 설치 및 이용, 각종정보내용 및 사이트 소개, 인터넷 검색 브라우저의 소개 및 특성 등을 초보자가 알기 쉽게 설명하고 있으며, 사용자가 혼자서 즐길 수 있는 몇종류의 재미있는 게임까지 수록하고 있어서 타이틀 제작의 세심함을 엿볼 수 있다.

Effects of Instructional Material Using ICT at High School Earth Science (고등학교 지구과학 수업에서 ICT 활용 수업자료의 효과)

  • This study investigated the effects of the application of a variety of ICTs cause the effects on self-directed learning capability, creativity and problem-solving ability. In order to achieve the above aim, Web-Based Instructions(WBI) and instructions using CD-ROM Titles for the unit of 'the solar system and the galaxy' were applicated and analyzed which belongs to the area of 'the earth' in the subject 'science' for high school students. Instructions using WBI materials and CD-ROM titles were found to be effective on 'self-conception', 'creativity', 'future inclination', 'self-assessment ability', 'openness' and' initiative' improvement all of which belong to self-directed learning characteristics. They did not, however, show meaningful effect on improving 'learning eagemess' and 'responsibility' improvement. On looking into self-directed learning characteristics according to prerequisite learning levels, both groups and these for instruction using CD-ROM learning materials were found to have no effect on interaction. With respect to problem-solving ability improvement which is characteristic of the instruction using ICTs, WBI proved more fruitful than instruction using CD-ROM titles on improving scholastic achievement level. WBI was effective on 'fluency', 'originality' and 'resistance to premature closure'. It on the other hand, was of no use on 'abstraction of titles' and 'elaborateness' These results came from the following characteristics: WBI came into effect on 'fluency' and 'originality' in the areas of variety and vitality, which are characteristic of WBI. In the area of resistance to premature closure WBI was effective on organizing learning contents owing to the animation of picture materials which are variously presented in the web site. As a result of WBI questionnaire about WBI, an excellent effect on the structure of display, quantity of information, indication and instruction, supplementary study and further study were discussed.

  • The purpose of this paper is to develop and apply an electronic English textbook for the teaching and learning of 3rd grade students. For this purpose, the textbook was based on XML to maximize the advantages of the electronic textbook format, and avoid the disadvantages of the CD-ROM that $3^{rd}$ grade classes currently use. After electronic textbook was developed, focus group interview was implemented to confirm the effectiveness of that based on interaction, satisfaction, and interests. As a result of this study, interaction, satisfaction, and interests of students will be improved through the use of electronic textbook and it is anticipated self-directed learning ability will be improved. Also, we anticipate that the students' learning effectiveness will be enhanced.

  • Due to the rapid development of information & communication technology under high performance computing environments, the multimedia production techniques have been applied to a variety of multimedia fields such as general banner advertisements including texts, images and animations, and the internet-broadcasting dealing with videos and sounds. This paper presents an authoring tool with main functions to setup events objects (image, animation, sound, button, area) and to setup action functions, so that non-experts can easily produce multimedia including images, sounds, animations and so on. The authoring tool implemented in Java can be applied to the CD-ROM title production as well as the web-site construction. We can expect that when this authoring tool is used for in multimedia production, both cost and time will be reduced due to its convenience and powerful functions. We have a future plan to integrate intelligent multimedia presentation techniques with the presented tool for the autonomous multimedia authoring works.

  • In this paper, we propose an educational content which can be applied to the web interactivity. Rapidly growing digital media has been applied to various fields and made people experience multiple media. The development of digital media also influenced education. As a result, the environment of computer-based education was produced based on CD-ROM titles, video, and the web. Active communication with students is impossible using traditional educational methods. However, the students' motive for learning can be enhanced through the digital media. In this paper, we apply concrete poetry which is simple, brief, and focused on visualization to the web environment. It has made people easily and interactively access the web to learn better through participation. We also applied concrete poetry to the web based educational games for self-motivated learning.

The su~ect of this thesis is to analyze and criticize tre details of Wonder-land, that is a demo multimedia ill-ROM title, in respect to User Interface Design and Development. By applying the coocepts, teclmiques and ideas to a real life study and analyzing and criticizing it from the view point of users, desigrer lets the program revised and developed by users. For User Interface Design and Development purposes this tresis analyzes and criticize the characteristics of the program already made, the current user interface design, mental models and users learning about the program. As a result it is founded that the program requires to be analyzing and criticizing continuously from a cognitive point of view to design and develop it successfully.

  • The production and application of multimedia by domain in accordance with an infant level on the educational spot are some what insufficient to satisfy and difficult to be connected with class activities. Therefore, This essay proposes a way that it products educational program in accordance with a child level using ToolBook II and applies to class activities directly so that the infants can promote learning achievement. The embodied program is to be classified into six domains, a letter world, a figure world, a colorful world, a nursery rhyme world, a nursery tale world and internet site, on the basis of the play domain of infant education course. It is different from the existing CD ROM Title for young children by subject. The program is appropriately applied close multimedia factor for infants, such as images and sounds in order to stimulate their hearing and vision because it is programmed just for young children. And also, it is made up to be able to be applied without suing letters because they are unaccustomed to letter. After it have been applied to infants, A Rating-measure method is chosen in the course of an evaluation. Consequently, It shows that, a letter world, a figure world and a colorful world of each domain have an efficient learning effect and also at the ages of 5~7, 7 year-old infants have the best efficient learning effect.

However, when we take a look at domestic condition we come to know that Korean juvenile publishing has been occupied mostly by the studying book. Also, the cautious book selection by the well educated parents in l990's has brought up the change of juvenile publishing world. Such a presen t condition bears of juvenlie publi.,;hing world. Such a present condition bears problem, which is the checking 190 translat.ions among the published picture- books of the last ye ar children's book Nevertheless, there was a sucessful domestic planned creative picture book last year. That is "Puppy s shit", which was sold out 15 000 copies and be st se ller of children's book. Whe n we take a look at the commercial success of "Puppy s shit", it is possible that domestic work holds a position in the publishing market. "Puppy s shit" is the story about valuable nature with Korean styled illustration, which tells the prefemece of Korean book in do mestic pu blis hin f.i market. With the motto "Finding prospect of the Korean creative children's book", this paper was went throu gh.
