The purpose of this research was to study the effects of the feeding of dietary citrus byproducts on the physicochemical properties and palatability of Hanwoo rump (HR). The samples for experimental samples consisted of the HR not fed without citrus byproducts pulp (CBP-0) and the HR rump fed with citrus byproducts pulp during the fattening period (CBP-1). The control (CBP-0) HR rump was fed by general practical feeding (roughages and concentrates were fed separately), while the CBP-1 was fed in the same manners as CBP-0 until 17 months but with citrus byproducts then fed fer the next 10 months. There were no significant differences in the $L^*$ (tightness), $a^*$ (redness) and $b^*$ (yellowness) of the HR between the CBP-0 and CBP-1 fed groups. There were no significant differences in the pH, VBN content and EDA between the samples, but the TBARS value of the CBP-1 fed group was lower than that of the CBP-0 fed group (p<0.05). There were no significant differences in the water holding capacity, freezing loss, thawing loss, boiling and roasting logs between the CBP-0 and CBP-1 fed groups. There were no significant differences in the hardness, cohesiveness, chewiness and shear force between the samples, but the springiness of the CBP-1 fed group was higher than that of the CBP-0 fed group (p<0.05). There were no significant differences in the sensory scores for the roasted beef between the CBP-0 and CBP-1 fed groups. There were no significant differences in the taste, flavor, juiciness and palatability of roasted beef the between samples, but the tenderness of the CBP-1 fed group was superior to that of the CBP-0 fed group.

Various cell wall polysaccharides such as IAP(ionically associated pectin), CBP(covalently bounded pectin), HF(hemicellulosic fraction) and CF(cellulosic fraction) were fractionated by chemical method from hot pepper fruit cell wall during ripening and softening. And then, the composition of the polysaccharides were determined. The IAP and CBP were composed of $65{\sim}88%$ polyuronide, $4{\sim}29%$ hemicellulose and $0.3{\sim}2.1%$ cellulose. And hemicellulose also contained $8{\sim}13%$ polyuronide and $0.1{\sim}1.1%$ cellulose. The containing ratio of hemicellulose associated with the CBP was higher than IAP. All of the polysaccharides except CF decreased by the turning stage showed softening. The polyuronide made up IAP changed little but, that of the CBP increased during softening owing mainly to decrease of the hemicellulose that was bounded to the CBP and was mostly linked to galactose.
Calcium ions play an important role in development and intracellular signaling. Dictyostelium discoideum has 14 genes encoding calcium -binding proteins (CBPs), but the function of most CBPs during development has not yet been studied. In this study, we investigated the specific functions of CBP7, one of 14 CBPs, in development using RNA interference cell lines of CBP7, cell lines overexpressing CBP7, cell lines with point mutations in the EF-hand domain, and cell lines expressing fragment proteins. was intended to reveal. CBP7 consists of 169 amino acids and contains 4EF-hand domains. The CBP7-overexpressing cells showed complete loss of developmental process. These cells remained in the single-cell growth stage under development -inducing conditions, while wild-type cells formed aggregations within 6-8h of development and eventually formed fruiting bodies. The experiments using point-mutated CBP7 protein showed that all EF-hand domains of CBP7 were important for CBP7 to function during developmental process. These results suggest that CBP7 plays an important role in developmental processes across all EF-hand domains.
The objective of these experiments was to develop an attenuated thermostable Newcastle disease virus(NDV), CBP-1 strain isolated from infected pheasants. Safety, pathogenicity and protective effects against velogenic NDV were also investigated to evaluate if the attenuated NDV, CBP-1 strain could be a candidate for a new NDV vaccine strain. CBP-1 strain was passaged up to the 173 times by nine days old embryonated eggs and chicken embryo fibroblast(CEF) cell cultures. Its sensitivitly to lipid solvents and low pH, thermostability, mean death time(MDT), intracerebral pathogenicity index(ICPI) of one day old chicks and intravenous pathogenicity index(IVPI) of four weeks old chicks were examined. Safety, boosting and protective effects were tested by chicks mortality. CBP-1 NDV strain had significant thermostability at 56$\^{C}$ for 30 minutes. by hemagglutinin activity and egg infectivity test, but was not resistant to lipid solvent. It showed possibility to use as a feed or water vaccine because of the resistance to low pH. MDT, ICPI and IVPI of CBP-1 were attenuated from 51.5, 1.96, 2.60 to 112.4, 1.12, 1.45. These results implied that the 173rd passages in embryonated egg and CEF cell cultures induced a substantial attenuation of the pathogenicity of the parent virus, changing the virulence from velogenic to intermediate between mesogenic and lentogenic. After vaccination with CBP-1 at one day old by drinking water mortality was 17.5%. However, spray vaccination with B1 at one day old, CBP-1 at two weeks ild and challenge with velogenic Kyojeongwon strain at four weeks old showed 93.5% survival rate. Mortality of chicks, vaccination with 173rd passaged CBP-1 strain at one day old, two weeks old and challenge with Kyokeongwon strain at four weeks old, was 20.0%. The results of these studies indicated that partial attenuated CBP-1 strain tended to be a low safety for ND of broiler chicks and would need to be more successive attenuation.
The antitumor activities of the cell bound polysaccharide(CBP), water soluble polysaccharide(WSP) and sulfated polysaccharide(SP) of Zoogloea sp. were observe. The results obtained were as follows : 1) The CBP, WSP, and SP showed cytotoxic effect on the Meth A cells in vitro, however, the effect of CBP and WSP was more ten-fold greater than that pf SP. 2) When CBP, WSP, and SP was inoculated into the peritoneal cavity of the Meth A cells transplanted mice, the average survival days tended to prolonged slightly as compared with the control. 3) When Meth A cells were transplanted subcutaneously into the back side of mice, and then CBP, WSP, and Sp was inoculated into the peritoneal cavity of mice, the tumor growth inhibition ratio was 46.9% for WSP, 40.4% for CBP, and 16.2% for SP. 4) The phagocytic activity of peritoneal macrophages elicited with CBP, WSP, and SP was significantly increased than that of control. 5) The production of nitric oxide in the peritoneal macrophages stimulated with CBP, WSP, SP, and LPS aloneo was not increased than that of control. The production of nitric oxide in the peritoneal macrophages stimulated with IFN-r and CBP, IFN-r and WSP and IFN-r and SP was significantly increased than that of control, but in the case of stimulated with IFN-r and WSP was increased 50% for CBP and SP. These results suggest that the CBP, WSP and SP of Zoogloea sp. showed direct cytotoxic effect and tumor growth inhibition on Meth A cells in vitro and in vivo, and induced nitric oxide production of activated macrophages.

The changes of methoxy content. compositional sugars. degree of esterification (DE) and pectic substances such as LMP (low methoxy pectin), HMP (high methoxy pectin) IAP (ionically associated pectin) and CBP (covalently bounded pectin) of Fuji apple were investigated during maturity. The contents of LMP+HMP and IAP+CBP in alcohol insoluble solid(AIS) were 70% and 20%. respectively. These pectic substances were increased slightly during maturity. The reductions of hexose and uronic acid were Iron 20-50% and from 2-4%, respectively, but the inclosed of pentose was from 1-9% in LMP, HMP, IAP and CBP during maturity of Fuji apple. The galactose was decreased significantly among hexose. Whereas the relative ratio of uronic acid in HMP and CBP was increased.
Various cell wall polysaccharides such as ionically associated pectin (IAP), covalently bounded pectin (CBP),4N potassium hydroxide soluble hemicellulosic fraction (HF,) and 0-3N soluble hemicellulosic fraction (HF,) were fractionated from crude cell wall of the fresh and soft persimmon by chemical method. The changesin cell wall polysaccharides were studied by gel filteration chromatography . The content of crude cell wall remarkably decreased in the soft persimmon. The decreasing rates of IAP, CBP and $HF_2$ were 59, 60 and 74%, respectively, while $HF_1$ and cellulose changed only a little during softening. Sugar compositions of IAP and CBP were 72-84% uronic acid, 5-1% hexose and 11-16% pentose, and also the hemicellulose was composed of uronic acid besides hexose and pentose that was hemicellulosic components. The loss rate of pentose in IAP, of hexose in CBP, of hexose and uronic acid in $HF_2$, of pentose in $HF_1$ increased during softening. Though apparent average molecular freight of all polysaccharides shifted from high molecular freight to low molecular weight polymer, the shifting degree of CBP and $HF_2$ was especially remarkable during softening. It is suggested that the severe softening phenomenon of persimmon involved the degradation and dissolution of wall bound-CBP and $HF_2$ which were associated with each other.

We have developed inverted green phosphorescent organic light emitting diodes (OLEDs) using 1,1-bis[(di-4-tolylamino)phenyl]cyclohexane (TAPC) and bis(carbazole-9-yl)biphenyl (CBP) hole transport layers. The driving voltage, current efficiency, power efficiency, and emission characteristics of devices were investigated. While the driving voltage for the same current density was about 1~2 V lower in the devices with the TAPC layer, the maximum luminance was higher in the device with the CBP layer. The maximum current efficiency and power efficiency were 3.2 and 2.7 times higher in the device with the CBP layer, respectively. The higher efficiency in the CBP device resulted from the enhanced hole-electron balance although weak parasitic recombination takes place in the CBP hole transport layer.

Cellulosomes in Clostridium cellulovorans are assembled by the interaction between the repeated cohesin domains of a scaffolding protein (CbpA) and the dockerin domain of enzyme components. In this study, we determined the synergistic effects on cellulosic and hemicellulosic substrates by three different recombinant mini-cellulosomes containing either endoglucanase EngB or endoxylanase XynA bound to mini-CbpA with one cohesin domain (mini-CbpAl), two cohesins (mini-CbpA12), or four cohesins (mini-CbpAl234). The assembly of EngB or XynA with mini-CbpA increased the activity against carboxymethyl cellulose, acid-swollen cellulose, Avicel, xylan, and com fiber 1.1-1.8-fold compared with that for the corresponding enzyme alone. A most distinct improvement was shown with com fiber, a natural substrate containing xylan, arabinan, and cellulose. However, there was little difference in activity between the three different mini-cellulosomes when the cellulosomal enzyme concentration was held constant regardless of the copy number of cohesins in the cellulosome. A synergistic effect was observed when the enzyme concentration was increased to be proportional to the number of cohesins in the mini-cellulosome. The highest degree of synergy was observed with mini-CbpAl234 (1.8-fold) and then mini-CbpAl2 (1.3-fold), and the lowest synergy was observed with mini-CbpAl (1.2-fold) when Avicel was used as the substrate. As the copy number of cohesin was increased, there was more synergy. These results indicate that the clustering effect (physical enzyme proximity) of the enzyme within the mini-cellulosome is one of the important factors for efficient degradation of plant cell walls.
Colostrum basic proteins (CBP) (MW 1$\sim$30 kDa) were isolated from bovine colostrum using a series of ultrafiltration processes and their effects on osteoblast cell proliferation and bone metabolism were investigated in cell line and animal models. Treatments with CBP (1, 10, 100 $\mu$g/mL) dose-dependently increased cell proliferation of osteoblastic MC3T3 cells. Alkaline phosphatase activity, a marker of osteoblastic phenotype, in the cells was also increased after treatments with CBP in a dose-dependent manner. Significant increases in bone density were observed in femur of ovariectomized rats which were fed a diet with 1% and 10% CBP, compared to rats fed a normal diet. These results suggest that CBP may increase bone mass and density and be useful for the prevention of bone-related diseases.
