  • Injection molding is one of plastic forming technology which can easily mass-produce plastic parts with various and even complex shape. The technology has lots of difficulties in making a good part due to phase change of material, high applied pressure, and fast melt flow speed in the cavity. To overcome the problems, they had to make trial and error method until the CAE(Computer Aided Engineering) could be a tool for concurrent engineering. In this paper, we investigate the optimal design for a plastic DVD tray part by systematic approach of the commercial CAE program. In design, we should consider two objectives which are both dimensional stability and cost-down. The dimension of the part is crucial because the tray should carry a DVD correctly, but the part is too thin to injection-mold easily. In order to improve the moldability, the mold is designed in the form of stack mold which is a kind of 4 hot runner system. In first, we changed the stack-mold system with one hot-runner to cost down, and decided the optimal position of the gate. After that, we investigate the effect of both the layout of cooling channels and the cooling temperature on the shrinkage of the DVD tray. A optimal simulation approach, the gate design is 2Gate#3 and the layout is Case2 cooling line as the optimal temperature of $70^{\circ}C$. The Moldflow and PC+ABS are used for the CAE program and material respectively.

  • Testing engine performance using an engine dynamometer requires high technical researchers and many facilities. Nowadays, different variables of CAE program are used for identifying the engine performance instead of engine dynamometer test. This is more convenience, as it does not necessitate an abundance of engine dynamometer experiments and, in addition, produces better results. However, CAE programs also contain various variables which can affect engine performance. Those are coupled with each other, thus making it difficult to determine the effectiveness of different variables on engines. DoE (Design of Experiments) methodology is an efficient way to verify the magnitude of effectiveness on engine performance as well as making responses to be optimized at once without trial & error. This study used data from WAVE simulations, which modeled the DOHC SI engine with in-line 4 cylinders at 1500, 3000 and 4500rpm. DoE methodology is designed properly to determine the effectiveness of five variables on power, BSFC, and volumetric efficiency, as well as to find the optimal response conditions at each rpm through a minimized number of experiments. After finishing DoE process, all the results are examined concerning the reliability of test through a verification experiment.

  • Nowadays, one lift among the fundamental equipments at auto-repair must withstand the heavy weight of car. Therefore, the strong lift which is easy to make repairs on cars is the indispensible equipment. In this study, three kinds of lifts are modelled and the simulation analysis is carried out with the finite element analysis program of ANSYS. The durability of lifts due to each configuration can be estimated on the background of this study result and the data to be contributed to the development of new lift for car with safety and durability can be accumulated ultimately. And it is possible to be grafted onto the convergence technique at design and show the esthetic sense.

  • The role of product model in CIM environemt(where such heterogenous application programs as CAD, CAE, CAM, Database, and Expert Systems are included) is system integration. Product model manages all the information related to manufacuring activities. This information includes shapes, operation, process, scheduling, quality, and mangement. Product model architecture includes product model kernel, object schema, model manipulation language, and user interface. Objects to be shared are defined using the model manipulation luage and the defintions are saved in the object schema. In this paper, we present the design and implementation of a prototype. In this prototype, application programs for CAPP(Computer Aided Process Planning) are used.

  • This paper is to model a 3D-shape product applying mathematically the data acquired from a 3D scanner and using an Automatic Design Program. The research studied in the reverse engineering up to now has been developed continuously and surprisingly. However, forming 3D-shape solid models in CAE and CAM, based on the research, the study leaves much to be desired. Especially, analyses and studies reverse-designing automatically using measured data after manufacturing. Consequently, we are going to acquire geometric data using an 3D scanner in this study with which we will open a new field of reverse engineering by a program whic hcan design a 3D-shape solid model in a CAD-based program automatically.
