  • This paper proposes a Expert CAPP System for integrating CAD/CAM of rotational work-part by rule based approach. The CAD/CAPP integration is performed by the recognition of machined features from the 2-D CAD data (IGES) file. Selecting functions of the process planning are performed in modularized rule base by forward chaining inference, and operation sequences are determined by means of heuristic search algorithm. For CAPP/CAM integration, post-processor generates NC code from route sheet file. This system coded in OPS5 and C language on PC/AT, and EMCO CNC lathe interfaced with PC through DNC and RS-232C.

  • Topology optimization is widely accepted as a conceptual design tool for the product design. Since the resulted layout of the topology optimization is a kind of digital images represented by the density distribution, the seamless process is required to transform digital images to the CAD model for the practical use.   • The product data exchange between heterogeneous CAB and PDM systems is a crucial issue for the integration of product development systems. STEP offers an efficient mechanism of product data exchange between heterogeneous systems. This paper introduces a UML-based mapping methodology for the product data models. The suggested mapping method has been applied to exchange the product structure data between CAD and PDM systems. Based on the STEP methods, we developed an interface module between a CAD system and a PDM system.

  • In this study surface modeling .method with 3D curve net is proposed. For surface modeling, ship hull was divided into several parts, Generated surface was loaded general purpose CAD program through IGES file format, and the quality of generated surface model was checked by CATIA's internal function. Lastly it is tried to find a method for improving the accuracy of surface connection by using the blending method in CATIA and the result was discussed.

Computer-Aided Detection with Automated Breast Ultrasonography for Suspicious Lesions Detected on Breast MRI

  • Purpose: The aim of this study was to evaluate the diagnostic performance of a computer-aided detection (CAD) system used with automated breast ultrasonography (ABUS) for suspicious lesions detected on breast MRI, and CAD-false lesions. Materials and Methods: We included a total of 40 patients diagnosed with breast cancer who underwent ABUS (ACUSON S2000) to evaluate multiple suspicious lesions found on MRI. We used CAD ($QVCAD^{TM}$) in all the ABUS examinations. We evaluated the diagnostic accuracy of CAD and analyzed the characteristics of CAD-detected lesions and the factors underlying false-positive and false-negative cases. We also analyzed false-positive lesions with CAD on ABUS. Results: Of a total of 122 suspicious lesions detected on MRI in 40 patients, we excluded 51 daughter nodules near the main breast cancer within the same quadrant and included 71 lesions. We also analyzed 23 false-positive lesions using CAD with ABUS. The sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value, and negative predictive value of CAD (for 94 lesions) with ABUS were 75.5%, 44.4%, 59.7%, and 62.5%, respectively. CAD facilitated the detection of 81.4% (35/43) of the invasive ductal cancer and 84.9% (28/33) of the invasive ductal cancer that showed a mass (excluding non-mass). CAD also revealed 90.3% (28/31) of the invasive ductal cancers measuring larger than 1 cm (excluding non-mass and those less than 1 cm). The mean sizes of the true-positive versus false-negative mass lesions were $2.08{\pm}0.85cm$ versus $1.6{\pm}1.28cm$ (P < 0.05). False-positive lesions included sclerosing adenosis and usual ductal hyperplasia. In a total of 23 false cases of CAD, the most common (18/23) cause was marginal or subareolar shadowing, followed by three simple cysts, a hematoma, and a skin wart. Conclusion: CAD with ABUS showed promising sensitivity for the detection of invasive ductal cancer showing masses larger than 1 cm on MRI.

An Integrated ECAD Library System for Standard Part Management in a Heterogeneous ECAD Environment

  • In this study, we propose an integrated CAD(Computer Aided Design) library database in a heterogeneous commercial ECAD(Electronic CAD) environment. To effectively solve engineering problems focused on BOM data extraction we use a software system called schematic capture and company-wide standard electronic part information loaded on different commercial ECADs. We unify many commercial ECADs into one schematic capture and a variety of PCB(Printed Circuit Board) design tools. For this purpose we develope a model for linking CAD symbol library with company-wide standard part information. We also develope a schematic design data conversion scheme and show how to extract PBA level BOM data using our customized schematic capture. This system is being operated in an X-Window based engineering work station and commercial RDBMS base.

  • It is known that the 3D Solid CAD system can provide various information which is useful for implementing CAPP and CAE. However the commercial 3D CAD systems available today do not support the handling of non-geometric information such as geometry tolerance and surface finish. It is impossible to input the non-geometric information during designof parts while CAPP needs the information for selecting machine tools. fiztures, inspection method, etc. In this paper the need of research on handling tolerance information In 3D CAD systems is considered. The development of inspection planning support system is also explained with an example. The development of inspection planning support systm receives the design geometry information from the 3D CAD system in the form of 2D draft and generates the inspection data base and the inspection sheet through the user interaction.

  • In today's engineering world, any product development activity requires the expertise and the interaction of many different engineering. Therefore the various activities in a product development architecture are highly distributed and interdependent. The interdependence may be due to sharing of databases and transfer of information between various activities. This will require an integrated product model. That can support distributed design such that participants from different backgrounds collaborate towards one common goal. This paper presents the architecture of the product modeling system for the integration of CAD and CAE. It then reports on the study of STEP 10303 and UG open API focused on the integration of different technical environments.

  • The CAD/CAM System for deep drawing transfer die tin mechanical press process has been developed. The developed CAD system can generate the drawing of transfer die in mechanical press. Using thee results from CAD system, it can generate the NC data to machine die's elements on the CAD system. This system can reduce design man-hour an human errors. In order to construct the system, it is used to automated the design process and generate the NC data using concepts of the designing rule and the machining rule. The developed system is based on the knowledge base system which is involved a lot of expert's technology in the practice field. Using AutoLISP language under the AutoCAD system, CTK customer language of SmartCAM is used as the overall CAD/CAM environment. Results of this system will be provide effective aids to the designer and manufacturer in this field.
