The active development of the global marine trade industries has been known to increase the inflows of marine invasive species and harmful organisms into the ecosystem, and the marine ecological disturbances. One of these invasive species, Ciona robusta, has now spread to the Korea Strait, the East Sea, and Jeju Island in connection with the climate change but not the Yellow Sea in Korea. Currently, the spread and distribution of C. robusta is increasingly damaging aquaculture and related facilities. Therefore, this study aims to identify the spread of C. robusta and potential habitats and to secure a data for the prevention of effective management measures due to climate change as well as damage the reduction in future through the prediction of spread. We used environmental variables in BioOracle. Also, the potential habitat and distribution of C. robusta was predicted using MaxEnt, a species distribution model. Two different RCP scenarios(4.5 and 8.5) were specified to predict the future distributions of C. robusta. The results showed that the biggest environmental factor affecting the distribution of C. robusta was the salinity as well as the highest distribution and potential habitats existent in the East Sea and around Jeju Island.
A total of ten specimens of darkblotched rockfish, Sebastes crameri obtain-ed from Newport fish market were examined for parasites during February, 2002. Eight out of ten S. crameri were found to be infected with metazoan parasites. They were flatworm Trochopus australis, nematoda Anisakis simplex, and copepods Neobrachiella robusta and Chondracanthus triventricosus. Nine (30.0%) T. australis, seven (30.0%) N. robusta, one (10.0%) C. triventricosus and seven (60.0%) A. simplex were infected. Among them, A. simplex was the most abundant and prevalent metazoan parasites in S. crameri. T. australis and N. robsta were found in gills with moderate intensity (1.7 and 1.9, respectively), and C. triventricosus in dorsal fin with low intensity (0.3).
Nineteen rockfishes representing two species in the family Scorpaenidae were collected from Oregon Coast Aquarium in July 2003 and examined for parasitic copepods. The parasitic copepods were taken from the gills of Sebastes crameri and fins of S. melanops. With regard to the prevalence of copepod 22.2% of the fishes were infected by C. uncinata, and 30.0% by N. robusta. Intensity of infections of Clavella uncinata to Sebastes melanops, showed a range of 4 to 6 with a mean of 5.0 per fish while Neobrachiella robusta to S. crameri was 1 to 6 with a mean of 2.7.

Roasting has revealed coffee's potentials as a good source of bioactive compounds. This study was done to investigate the quantitative presence and activity of bioactive compounds including caffeine, chlorogenic acid (CGA), amino acids, and antioxidant capacity on Coffea arabica L. (Guatemala finca San Sebastian) and C. robusta L. (India Azad Hind). Analysis was performed on Green Bean (GB) Medium-Light (ML), Medium (ME) and Medium-Dark (MD) samples of both varieties. From the results, caffeine content was highest in ME samples of both varieties. GB samples of both varieties had high CGA content which decreased after increasing roasting time and temperature. Most amino acids in GB samples was highest, however, glutamic acid, valine, tyrosine, isoleucine, leucine and phenylalanine had highest quantitative increase in ME samples for both varieties. $IC_{50}$ of DPPH and ABTS radical scavenging activity was highest in ML samples of both varieties. $IC_{50}$ of reducing power and total phenolic content was highest in GB sample of both varieties but decreased after increasing roasting conditions. Generally Robusta had the highest quantity of bioactive compounds and antioxidant activity. From this study, the optimal roasting condition for coffee is ME above which there is a significant reduction of bioactive compounds and antioxidant activity.
To understand the distribution and formation mechanism of benthic foraminiferal assemblages, grain size analysis, 14C radiocarbon dating, and benthic foraminifera analysis were conducted on thirty-two surface sediments collected from the continental shelf of the northern East China Sea, respectively. Surface sediment was composed of sandy mud~muddy sand facies with an average of 52.04% of sand, 13.72% of silt, and 34.20% of clay. These sedimentary facies are palimpsest sediment. Benthic foraminifera was classified into a total of 48 genera and 104 species, including agglutinated foraminifera, calcareous-hyaline, and calcareous-porcelaneous foraminifera. The production rate of agglutinated foraminifera increased toward the Yangtze River area while that of planktonic foraminifera increased toward Jeju Island. Dominant species are Ammonia ketienziensis, Bolivina robusta, Eggella advena, Eilohedra nipponica, Pseudorotalia gamardii, Pseudoparrella naraensis. 14C radiocarbon datings of Bolivina robusta and Pseudorotalia gamardii with the highest production rate were 2,360±40 yr B.P. and 2,450±40 yr B.P., respectively. In the result of cluster analysis, three assemblages composed of P. gaimardii, B. robusta, and A. ketienziensis-P. naraensis were classified broadly. P. gaimardii assemblage is thought to be formed from about 2.5 yr B.P. at the sea area of the Yangtze River to 50 m in water depth affected by fresh water. B. robusta assemblage is thought to be formed from about 2.4 yr B.P. at the sea area of Jeju Island to 50~100 m affected by offshore water. And then, A. ketienziensisP. naraensis assemblage was formed in the northwest sea area (Central Yellow Sea Mud). These distributions and composition of benthic foraminiferal assemblages formed from about 2.5 yr B.P. in the northern East China Sea are thought to be due to the change of benthic ecology environment that occurred by the sea level increase during the late Holocene.
Antioxidative activities of brown materials extracted from the three kinds of roasted coffee beans by water were examined. Antioxidative activity was assessed by the AOM at $120^{\circ}C$ and the oven test at $60^{\circ}C$ on lard. The brown materials of them showed the considerable antioxiant activity. The brown materials of Colombian coffee beans were more effective than those of Robusta or Brazil beans. The antioxidative activities of brown materials from Colombian coffee beans roasted at $210^{\circ}C$ increased in proportion to the browning intensity up to 16 minutes of roasting time, but the antioxidant activities of the brown materials upon further roasting time decreased gradually. In changes of extraction temperature from $30^{\circ}C\;to\;180^{\circ}C$ on the coffee beans roasted at $210^{\circ}C$ for 16 minutes, the antioxidative activities of brown materials did not change as the extraction temperature increased to $180^{\circ}C$. The antioxidative activities of the coffee extracts were thought to be caused by browning reaction materials produced during the roasting process only.
Roasting may lead to the formation of undesired compounds, such as polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs). In this study, green coffee beans were roasted under controlled conditions and the formation of PAHs during the roasting process was monitored. Roasting was performed in a hot air roaster, with an inlet air temperature varying from 150 to $250^{\circ}C$ for 5, 10, and 20 min. The PAH content of the roasted coffee was then evaluated by HPLC-FLD. The levels of total PAHs in Arabica (Colombia, Brazil) and Robusta (India) coffee samples were 1.26-215.07, 1.85-178.14, and 0.18-2.61 ${\mu}g$/kg, respectively.

We investigated the anti-obesity and anti-hyperlipidemic effects of extracts of two roasted coffee beans (Vietnam robusta and Ethiopia mocha sidamo G2) and fermented coffee beans with Monascus rubber mycelium (MR) by solid-state culture. C57B/L6 mice were divided into seven groups: normal diet (ND) group, high fat diet (HFD) group, and HFD groups with hot water extracts from Vietnam robusta coffee beans (HFD-VR), MR-fermented Vietnam robusta coffee beans (HFD-VR-MR), MR-fermented Vietnam robusta coffee beans with 10% brown rice (HFD-VR-MR-BR10), Ethiopia mocha sidamo G2 coffee beans (HFD-ES), and MR-fermented Ethiopia mocha sidamo G2 coffee beans (HFD-ES-MR). After 6 weeks, body weight gain and food efficiency ratio were higher in the HFD group, but significantly reduced in the coffee extracts-fed groups. The HFD-ES-MR group showed greater body weight reduction than the HFD-ES group. The serum triglyceride, total cholesterol, and LDL-cholesterol levels as well as the atherogenic index and cardiac risk factor all tended to decrease in groups fed Vietnam robusta coffee extracts compared to the HFD group. These results suggest that Vietnam robusta and Ethiopia mocha sidamo G2 may be used to make functional coffee beverages with anti-obesity and anti-hyperlipidemic activities.
The first record of Korean cyproideid amphipod, Cyproidea liodactyla Hirayama, 1978 is reported here with description and illustrations. This species has the following characteristics: the presence of dorsal keel of peduncle 2 on antenna 1, posterodistal process of ischium on gnathopod 1 and carpal process on gnathopod 2. In this study, the minor differences between the original description and our Korean specimens of Cyproidea liodactyla are discussed and a brief comparison to other related species such as C. serratipalma Schellenbeg, 1938 and C. robusta Ren, 2006 are suggested. In addition, a key to Korean species belonging to the family Cyproideidae is provided.

This paper was aimed to study the drying kinetics of coffee and to investigate the thin-layer drying kinetics of coffee by using a convective air dryer. The coffee was dried for the temperatures of 40, 50 and $60^{\circ}C$ with relative humidity in the range of 14-25% the airflow rate fixed at 1 m/s. According to the experiment result, the drying rate curve showed that drying process took place only in the falling rate period. Seven thin layer drying models (Newton, Page, Henderson and Pabis, Logarithmic, Wang and Singh, Two terms, Modified Henderson and Pabis) were fitted to the experimental moisture content data. The Two-trem model was found to be a better model for describing the characteristics of coffee for the temperatures of 40, 50 and $60^{\circ}C$. The effective moisture diffusivity of coffee increased when the drying temperature increased. The value was in the range of $4.5028{\times}10^{-11}$ to $6.4803{\times}10^{-11}m^2/s$.
