Property Evaluation of Kinetic Sprayed Al-Ni Composite Coatings (저온 분사 공정을 통하여 형성된 Al/Ni 복합소재 코팅의 특성 평가)

  • Shaped charge(SC) ammunition is a weapon that penetrates directly the target by made jet from metal liner on impacting at a target. In SC, the liner occupies significantly important role causing an explosion and penetration of the target. The Al-Ni composite coating was deposited on copper liner in a solid state via kinetic spraying to improve the explosive force. The mechanical properties, reactivity and microstructure were investigated to confirm the possibility of kinetic sprayed Al/Ni composite coating as a reactive liner material. Reactive liner using Al/Ni composite exhibited much enhanced reactivity than pure copper liner due to Self-propagating High-temperature Synthesis (SHS) reaction with significantly improved adhesive bond strength. Especially, among the Al/Ni composite coatings, AN11 (the Al versus Ni atomic percent ratio is 1:1) showed the greatest reactivity due to its widest reaction area between deposited Al and Ni.

  • 어린이천문대는 2003년부터 15년간 어린이들의 천문지식 함양과 과학탐구 능력의 향상을 도모하기 위해 수준별 3단계 프로그램을 연구 개발해왔다. 우리의 3단계 천문교육 시스템은 저학년을 대상으로 한 체험교실, 고학년을 대상으로 한 탐구교실, 그리고 탐구교실을 수료한 학생들을 위한 심화 단계인 테마교실로 이루어져 있다. 단계별 교재, 교보재, 관측실험 및 시각자료의 개발을 통해 프로그램의 완성도를 높여왔다. 우리의 천문교육 프로그램으로 교육된 누적 인원은 모두 67986명(2018년 3월 31일 기준)에 달한다. 그중 천문학 진출 사례로는 페리지로켓의 신동윤 대표와 다수의 천문학 전공 학생들이 있다. 전문적인 초등학생 천문교육 프로그램의 지속적인 연구개발을 통해 대한민국 천문학 대중화에 이바지할 수 있을 것으로 기대된다.

  • Owing to pandemic (COVID-19), the traditional face-to-face education method has been changed to the non-face-to-face real-time online education methods. Using a real time-based video conference system, synchronous education can be adopted by face-to-face class easily. Specially, it is very important to minimize the difference in learning effects between face-to-face and non-face-to-face in Entrepreneurship education. In this study, in order to derive the factors that affect the satisfaction of learners in synchronous online education, authors collected data from learners taking a synchronous entrepreneurship course. Through previous research, learned the reality of education and the composition of lessons. Spatiotemporal effectiveness, mentor ability, and educational environment influence learning satisfaction. PLS-SEM results revealed that it was confirmed that only spatiotemporal effects affect learner satisfaction. However, the education environment (fluent operation and convenience of function use of real-time based online conference system) effect teaching presence, class structure, and spatiotemporal effects. Through this research, we hope to provide theoretical and practical support for developing effective teacher activities, proper lesson structure, convenient function of the conference system, and learner-centered online learning environment when developing synchronous online classes.

N-Nitrosodimethylamine Concentrations in Domestic and Imported Beer in Korea

  • N-Nitrosodimethylamine (NDMA) was determined in both domestic Korean and imported beers, from the Netherlands, USA, Japan, Belgium and Germany. Among the 8 kinds of Korean beers, 4 were contaminated with NDMA, and 4 were not. The average concentration of NDMA detected in Korean beers was 0.78 $\mu\textrm{g}$/kg and the maximum NDMA concentration was 5.73 $\mu\textrm{g}$/kg. NDMA was only detected in one imported beer, which had a concentration of 5.29 $\mu\textrm{g}$/kg. Assuming an average concentration of 0.78 $\mu\textrm{g}$/kg NDMA in Korean domestic beer, the average daily intake of NDMA through domestic beer consumption by a typical Korean is approximately 0.58 $\mu\textrm{g}$/person/day.

  • Nitrite, a curing agent of meat products, is precursors of carcinogenic N-nitrosamines during processing of meat products or under human stomach conditions as well as having its own toxicity. Some researches have been conducted to evaluate the effects of ionizing radiation on the reduction of residual nitrite and N-nitrosamines in an aqueous model system and cured meat products with different packaging methods during storage. These results showed that the gamma irradiation was effective in reducing the residual nitrite and N-nitrosamines in an aqueous model system as well as meat products. Especially, irradiation combined with vacuum or modified atmosphere packaging was more effective in nitrite and N-nitrosamines reduction than aerobic packaging during storage. The objective of this review is to introduce the irradiation technology for the application of reducing the residual nitrite and N-nitrosamine contents in meat products.

  • An anatomical and ultrastructural study on the dart sac and the dart of a Korean snail Nesiohelix samarangae was conducted to understand their morphological characteristics with the help of the light microscope and electron microscopes, TEM and SEM. Nesiolelix samarangae had two darts which are pure white structures 6-8 mm in length, tapering from 0.6-0.8 mm to 0.15-0.3 mm. The dart sac had a long conic lumen subdivided into two by a septal wall, and the darts were centrally embedded in the thick muscular layers of the sac. The darts occupied each of the two luminal spaces one per each. The convexed surfaces of the darts had many crystal buds in the shape of the petals. Otherwise, the convexed surfaces of the darts had numerous crystal buds in the shape of candle or topaz. The luminal surface of the dart sac was covered with a single columnar epithelium. The epithelial cells possessed microvilli on their free surface.

Genotoxicological Safety of the Two gamma-Irradiated Herbs ; Houttuynia cordata Thunberg and Kycium Chinense Miller (감마선조사 생약재 (어성초, 구기자)의 안전성에 관한 유전독학성적 평가)

  • These experiments were performed to investigate the safety of two herbs-Houttuynia cordata Thunberg and Lycium chinese Miller-irradiated with gamma-rays in respect of genotoxicity. Water extracts from the 10 kGy gamma-irradiated herbs were examined in two short -term in vitro tests ; (1) Salmonella typhimurium reversion assay (Ames test) in strain TA 98 and Ta100 and (2) Micronuclues test on clutured Chinese hamster ovary(CHO) cells. No mutagenicity was detected in the two assays with or without metabolic activation . From these results , the safety of the herbs irradiated with gamma-rays at practical doses could be revealed in further tests of genotoxicity in vivo, chronic and reproductive toxicity.

  • The gamma-radiation sensitivity of three kinds of pathogenic bacteria to fish was investigated. $D_{10}$ values (irradiation dose required to inactivate 90% of the population) of Edwardsiella tarda, Vibrio anguillarum and Streptococcus faecalis were 0.08, 0.10 and 0.44 kGy, respectively. The inactivation factors were 4.50 - 24.30 and 6.75 - 36.45 at radiation doses of 2 and 3 kGy. Raw moist pellets were inoculated with Edwardsiella tarda, Vibrio anguillarum or Streptococcus faecalis. Inoculated feed samples were packaged in air and irradiated at 5 kGy. This dose was effective in controlling the inoculated and general bacteria in fish feed. We consider gamma-radiation to be an effective method to sterilize pathogenic bacteria in fish feed.

  • Effects of extraction conditions, gamma-irradiation and storage conditions on bioactivities of Citrus (Citrus unshiu) peel extract were investigated. The Hunter color $L^{*}$- and $a^{*}$-values of the extract increased but $b^{*}$-value decreased with an increase in absorbed irradiation dose. DPPH radical scavenging, tyrosinase inhibition and nitrite scavenging activities were not affected by irradiation but reduced by increased storage time. Nitrite scavenging activity of the extract was the highest at pH 1.2 followed by pH 4.2 and 6.0 and not changed by storage. Results indicated that there is potential for using citrus peel byproducts as a bioactive ingredient, and that gamma irradiation brightens the color of the extract without adversely altering its biological activity.ity.

  • Effects of gamma irradiation on hygienic quality, extraction yields and physiological effectiveness in twenty-one kinds of Korean medicinal plants were investigated. Gamma irradiation at $5{\sim}10\;kGy$ eliminated the microorganisms contaminated in Korean medicinal plants. The total extraction yield in fifteen kinds of Korean medicinal plants increased by $5{\sim}25%$ at 10 kGy gamma irradiation. The physiological effectiveness such as antioxidation, anticomplement functions, nitrite scavenging and electron donating abilities of medicinal plants exposed to 10 kGy gamma irradiation were not different from that of the nonirradiated control.
