Study on Characteristics of Change of Physical/Chemical property of Refined Fuel Oil(Reduced-pressure) by Mixing with By-product Fuel Oil(No. 2) (부생연료유(2호) 혼합에 따른 정제연료유(감압)의 물성 변화 특성 연구)

  • In addition to responding to the environmental pollution caused by fossil fuels, the enforcement of Renewable Fuel Standard(RFS) system has increased the utilization of renewable energy such as refined fuels oil. The by-product fuel oil(No. 2) and the refined fuel oil(reduced-pressure) are strictly regulated by the domestic legislation and the chemical property changes of the refined fuel oil(reduced-pressure) mixed with the by-product fuel oil(No. 2) were analyzed. As a result of analyzing the physical properties of refined fuel oil(reduced pressure) obtained by mixing 1 : 1 of by-product fuel oil(No. 2), it satisfied the quality standards stipulated by the domestic Enforcement Decree of the Wastes Control Act. However, the results of the additional tests related to the fuel showed a high aromatic content. The high content of aromatic in a fuel is likely to cause the soot and ehaust emission gas during the combustion of the used equipment.

A Study on the RDF making Process of Heat-dried Sludge from Cheonan by using Oil-drying Method (유중건조를 이용한 천안시 열건조물의 고형연료화 공정 연구)

  • This study examined the optimal manufacturing conditions of RDF using heat-dried sludge from sewage treatment plant in Cheonan with the oil-drying method. The amounts of oil evaporation and oil drying of the heat-dried sludge were measured at different temperatures to evaluate the value of the product. The performance of the product was then measured using a calorimeter and TGA. In addition, the concentration of odor, NH3, H2S, and TVOC during drying was determined using a portable odor-meter. Ingredient analysis was performed by EDS. Considering mass-production, the oil to heat-dried sludge weight ratio was fixed to 4:1. At $130^{\circ}C$, only physical mixing occurred after the instantaneous drying of internal water. Considering the eco-friendly aspects, there was no significant difference in the drying efficiency between $160^{\circ}C$ and $190^{\circ}C$. Therefore, the optimal conditions were a drying temperature of $160^{\circ}C$ within 5 minutes. Finally, the RDF manufactured in this study and fuel used in the thermal power plants were compared. The calorific value was 4,449kcal/kg, the water content was 2% and the ash content was 34%, which is higher than the fuel of thermal power plants. Therefore, it is believed that coal energy as well as wood pellets can be replaced.

Development of Predictive Model for Pollutants Emission from Power Plants (발전소의 대기오염물질 배출 예측 모델 개발)

  • From the power plant in a steel plant, environment pollutants such as $SO_x$, $NO_x$, CO and $CO_2$ are emitted by combustion reactions of the fuels which are by-product gases, oil and liquefied natural gas(LNG). To reduce the amounts of the pollutants, it is important to build a predictive model for the emission of the pollutants. In this paper, model that predict the amounts of generated pollutants for the used fuel is developed by using Gibbs free energy minimization method[1] with the temperature correction technique. For some data set, the calculation results from this model are compared with the real emission amounts of $SO_x$, $NO_x$, and the result of the calculation by both ASPEN PLUS which is a commercial simulation software. This model shows good results and can be applied to other power plants.

A study on the RDF(Refuse Derived Fuel) making process of Livestock manure sludge by oil-drying method (유중건조를 이용한 축산분뇨슬러지의 고형연료화 공정 연구)

  • In this study, we found the optimal manufacturing conditions of livestock manure sludge RDF with the oil-drying method. We performed oil evaporation, oil drying and pelletizing of the sludge to evaluate the value of the product (sludge RDF), and measured the performance of the product using calorimeter and PXRF equipment. Also, we conducted the calorie comparison test between sludge RDF manufactured in this study and wood RDF generally used in the field. Experimental results showed that 30g of the sludge treated by vegetable oil at $130^{\circ}C$ for 25 minutes were the optimal conditions to make the sludge RDF (considering the aspects of eco-friendly and mass production). The caloric value of the sludge RDF manufactured in this study was 5211kcal/kg which is higher than that of wood RDF used widely in the market. Finally, PXRF results showed sludge RDF contains no heavy metals with the exception of sulfur. Therefore, we recommend more study about the sulfur control process for future development of the industrial manufacturing process.

Development of Mixed Conducting Ceramic Membrane for High Purity Hydrogen and Carbon Production from Methane Direct Cracking (복합전도성 세라믹 분리막의 탄화수소 직접분해에 의한 고순도 수소와 탄소 제조)

  • Methane direct cracking can be utilized to produce $CO_x$ and $NO_x$-free hydrogen for PEM fuel cells, oil refineries, ammonia and methanol production. We present the results of a systematic study of methane direct cracking using a mixed conducting oxide, Y-doped $BaZrO_3$ ($BaZr_{0.85}Y_{0.15}O_3$), membrane. In this paper, dense $BaZr_{0.85}Y_{0.15}O_3$ membrane with disk shape was successfully sintered at $1400^{\circ}C$ with a relative density of more 93% via addition of 1 wt% ZnO. The ($BaZr_{0.85}Y_{0.15}O_3$) membrane is covered with Pd as catalyst for methane decomposition with an DC magnetron sputtering method. Reaction temperature was $800^{\circ}C$ and high purity methane as reactant was employed to membrane side with 1.5 bar pressure. The $H_2$ produced by the reaction was transported through mixed conducting oxide membrane to the outer side. In addition, it was observed that the carbon, by-product, after methane direct cracking was deposited on the Pd/ZnO-$BaZr_{0.85}Y_{0.15}O_3$ membrane. The produced carbon has a shape of sphere and nanosheet, and a particle size of 80 to 100 nm.
