Preparations of Nano-scale Mullite Powder from Solution Combustion Synthesis (용액연소합성에 의한 나노크기 물라이트 분말의 제조)

  • In this study, the solution combustion method was employed to synthesize stoichiometric mullite, and hence the attrition process was employed to prepare ultrafine mullite particles with nano size. The thermal decomposition behavior and partial pressure of equilibrium species of both oxidizer and fuel were considered during solution combustion process. The synthesized product was mullite phase with 40 nm crystalline size, and the alumina contents of the product by TEM/EDS quantity analysis was 3.12$\pm$04 mole. The result showed that the synthesized mullite was almost close to the it's stoichiometric composition. For attrition process, the dispersion behavior of the mullite suspension was controlled and was comminuted with the condition of 800 rpm for 4 hours using 0.3 mm zirconia ball media. As a result of comminution, the mean particle size was 80 nm.

  • A pressure-based BOIK model considering Shock to Detonation Transition(SDT) and damage due to external fragment or bullet stimuli impact on energetic materials and analytical approach for determination of free parameters are proposed. The rate of product mass fraction(${\lambda}$) consists of ignition term that represents the initiation due to shock compression and growth term that describes propagation of detonation wave and strain term representing the morphological deformation induced by external impact.

  • The effects of heating rate on the combustion temperature, the ignition temperature, the microstrurcture and the shape memory ability of products formed by combustion were investigated. The ignition temperature decreased with increasing heating rate. Combustion temperature and ${\Delta}T$(difference temperature between the ignition temperature and the combustion temperature) increased with increasing heating rate. The grain size of the product increased with increasing heating rate. Combustion synthesis did not completely occur below the heating rate of $10^{\circ}C/min$. NiTi intermetallic compound was completely formed at the heating rate of $600^{\circ}C/min$ and the product by combustion method had a good shape memory effect.

  • The properties of deformed products are generally dependent upon the distribution of microstureture. It is, therefore, necessary to make the distribution of microstureture uniform in order to achieve the best balance of properties in the final product. This is often a demanding task, even for conventional materials. It is become essential to achieving mechanical integrity and a desired combination of microstructure and properties. The objective mechanical integrity and a desired combination of microsttucture and properties. The objective of this study is to design the optimal die profile which can yield more uniform microstructure in hot extruded product. The microstructure evolution, such as dynamic and static recrystallization as well as grain growth, is investigated using the program com-bined with yada and Senuma's empirical equations and rigid-thermoviscoplastic finite element method. The die profile of hot extrusion is represented by Bezier-curve to define all available profile. In order to obtain the optimal die profile which yields uniform microstructure in the product the FPS(Flexible Polyhedron Search) method is applied to the present study. To validate the result of present study the experimental hot extrusion is performed and the result is compared with that of simulation.

  • A new extrusion process of the circular section product with helical fins could be developed by rotating extrusion die. The twisting of extruded product is caused by the twisted conical die surface connecting the die entrance section and the die exit section linearly. But, until now, because the process has used fixed extrusion die, it needs high pressure in order to twist billet and form fin shape on the surface of billet. So, during extruding billet, in order not to twist billet, the extrusion die is needed to rotate itself instead of twisting of billet. It is known that it is possible to reduce extrusion load of product with helical fins by analysis and experiments using rotating die. And it is known that, through the extrusion load analysis by $DEFORM^{TM}-3D$ software, optimal rotational velocity of rotating die can be obtained according to reduction ratio of area and twisted angle of die. And experiments and analysis using rotating extrusion die show that the twisted angle of product can be controlled by twisted angle of extrusion helical die and the rotational velocity of extrusion helical die.

  • This study describes the cold stamping process design procedure to secure the formability and dimensional accuracy of the automotive structural component fabricated by 1.5GPa grade ultra-high strength steel sheet. The target product is selected as the front side rear lower member which is the most important energy absorption part in the frontal impact condition. To secure the product quality, an intermediate product shape is added while considering the low elongation and high strength characteristics of 1470Mart. The sequential optimization procedure of the intermediate product shape, the fine dimensional quality is then achieved without any crack or wrinkling. The cold stamping method with ultra-high strength steel sheets is validated by conducting the die tryout of the front side rear lower member.

  • This paper addresses the product shape modification for spring-back reduction in the sheet metal forming process of the cabin sunroof which is applied to the construction equipment. Initially, the anisotropic material properties are measured in order to calculate the degree of spring-back by the numerical simulation of the sheet metal forming process. To reduce the spring-back of the stamped part, several design modifications are suggested according to the geometrical bead arrangement on the planar region. The degrees of spring-back are confirmed for various product designs with different use of the geometrical bead. Finally, the spring-back improvement was validated by manufacturing the tryout product with the modified die set for the optimized product shape.

  • There still exist adhesives that have toxic compounds or consist of those materials in both our life and lots of industries. For instance, formaldehyde adhesive had been still used for woodworking and some medical adhesives had been considered as toxicity problems. In this situation, natural adhesives from raw materials have been suggested as an one of considerable interests. Natural adhesives in recent have been reported fabrication methods via biological materials such as proteins, celluloses, and starches. By-products derived from agricultural something have them richly and each has additional special properties. Using these properties to make natural adhesives, unique adhesives would be attained. In particular, rice-based adhesive is such a good example. Rice-based by-product adhesives have interestingly some pros pertaining to high adhesive strength, excellent water resistance and could dramatically be reduced a formaldehyde a harmful component of plywood. Hence, rice-based adhesive like glues could be applied to lots of industries including agricultural and biological technology. This review paper highlighted some recent development on natural adhesives as a promising biomaterial for agricultural and biological technology fields.   • In this study, behaviors of removing Sb and Pb by oxidation of molten Bi-Pb-Sb alloy which is a by-product of non-ferrous smelting process was investigated. The molten alloy was oxidized at 1173 K by bubbling $N_2+O_2$ gas through a submerged nozzle. The Sb was removed and recovered as mixed phase of $Sb_2O_3$ and metal Sb. In the case of bubbling $N_2+O_2$ gas into molten Bi-Pb alloy at 923 K, Pb was oxidized and removed to slag. But Bi could not be refined due to simultaneous oxidization of Bi with Pb.
