For typology of strategic orientation, we used that developed by Miles and Snow, and results are as follows. Firstly, major types of organizational strategic orientation of Korean hospitals were analyzer(42.0%) and prospector(34.0%). Secondly, characteristics affecting to hospitals' strategic orientation significantly were hospital ownership and sex of managers. Medical corporation had a high tendency of prospector strategic orientation by 2.7 times compared to personal ownership. Female managers had a low tendency of prospector strategic orientation by 0.2, which was statistically significant. Though 60+ age group (compared to twenties and thirties) and middle managers (compared to CEO) had a tendency of being more prospector strategic orientation, but insignificant. The study result that majority of strategic orientation were prospector and analyzer reflects Korean hospital environment are complex and unstable. Hospital managers need to more focus on environment and boundary spanning function for maintenance and survival of their organizations.

It is said that global business education in Korea must be a kind of good investment on the future of Korea, because Korea's degree of dependence upon global trade is very high. But, despite great significance of trade in economic aspect, education system on global business in Korea still remains in old paradigm focused mainly on trade in goods. The purpose of this paper is to analyse key environment of trade in Korea relating to global business education system, and to suggest some trade-friendly measures to improve the global economic environment being worse. Methodology used in this study depends on descriptive analysis by literature study. As all the paradigm of global business has shifted from 20C's trade environment to that of 21C's and still more borderless trend has progressed, it is high time Korea to design the new education system of global business to conform with the trade mode of Korea, and to execute the mode of strategic trade which is new conception of trade strategy derived from Web 2.0 trend. Major findings of this study can be summarized as follows : It is suggested that Korea should convert basic composition of trade strategy to strategic trade irrespective of company size, nationality, public or private sector, etc., and launch new instructional model considering the trade 2.0 concepts. Also, Korea's trade policies which have been based on 'trade in goods' should be changed to the frame of strategic trade so that can include various trade process such as trade in services, trade in technology, cultural contents, global investment(TRIMs), TRIPS, etc.

This study investigates the relationship between firm's cost behavior and the managerial strategic deviation. Firms which intend to reduce uncertainty and improve viability for future performance tend to implement managerial strategies similar to peer firms in the same industry. Since the managerial decisions affect firm's cost behavior, the strategic deviation including operations different from others would be associated with cost behavior distinct from peer firms. On firms listed on Korean Security Exchange and KOSDAQ markets from 2002 to 2017, the analysis show the results that the firm's strategic deviation is positively associated with cost-downward rigidity, indicating that the management strategy affects the cost behavior. Also, it means that corporate managers who choose a strategy that deviates from peer firms are less likely to adjust their resource even when sales decrease. This study is meaningful in expanding the literature on the determinants of cost behavior by analyzing the effect of the management strategy's characteristics of strategic deviation on cost behavior.

With limited resources, proper allocation of the national R&D budget is very crucial matter for reinforcing the national competence, and the importance of selecting strategic R&D fields have been increasingly emphasized by technology policy-makers and CTOs. This paper deals with technology relevance/cluster analysis, which measures technological dependency and relevancy among technologies, and how it can be used for selecting the strategic R&D fields especially satisfying SMEs(small and medium enterprises)' specific needs. As a result of this study, technology-product tree composed of 7 major technology fields, 22 clusters, 41 groups, 335 core-need technologies and hundreds of related business items are produced that can be used for designing SMEs' R&D/business portfolio as well as R&D investment decision-making of the Ministry of Small and Medium Business Administration.

Recently, it is not sufficient that contemporary firms satisfy customers to be really successful, they must create new value. To do so, many firms focus on the blue ocean strategy. The blue ocean strategy proposed the strategic canvas as a main tool for identifying the opportunities for value differentiation. It is easy to understand and for the use, but has weakness that is a unclear procedure to make it done. To complement its weak point, this study proposes a refined strategic canvas based on the concept of the business evolution that comes from a discontinuous evolution trend of 5 stages known as customer expectation.

Marking the 40th anniversary of the founding of The Korean Association of Small Business Studies, this paper was carried out to shed light on the historical trend of 40 years of small and medium business research through the papers published in the Asia Pacific Journal of Small Business and to consider the direction of future small and medium business research. In particular, we will focus on small and medium venture business policies and strategic management aspects of small and medium venture businesses to analyze the contents of published papers related to the subject and contribute to finding implications and future research directions. In order to analyze the research trends of small and medium venture business policies and strategic management sectors of small and medium venture companies covered in the Asia Pacific Journal of Small Business from 1979 to 2019, the analysis was divided by time and item based on research subjects, research methods, researchers, etc., and the primary analysis results are as follows: First, out of a total of 1,056 research papers, research papers on small and medium venture enterprise policy and strategic management showed a ratio of about 14% and 11% of the total research. Second, in terms of research subjects, the proportion of policy research on funds and start-ups and ventures was high in the field of small and medium venture enterprise policy, and the research on internationalization strategy was carried out the most in the area of strategic management. Third, qualitative research was more prominent until the 1980s, but the proportion of quantitative research began to increase after the 1990s, and since then, quantitative research has been carried out more than qualitative research. Fourth, over the past 40 years, Hanyang University, Kyungpook National University, Konkuk University, etc. were the institutions that presented research papers most actively in the areas of small and medium venture business policy and strategic management, and the research institute's participation was somewhat insufficient. The main implications of this study for the continuous development of the Asia Pacific Journal of Small Business are as follows. First, it is necessary to enhance the link between research on policy research and strategic management of small and medium venture companies in terms of research subject matter. Second, more diversity should be pursued in terms of research methods. Third, it is necessary to increase the participation rate of public and private research institutes related to small and medium venture enterprises in academic societies.
