Development of Technological Innovation System in an Emerging Economy - A Study of the Malaysian Biodiesel Innovation System -

  • Studies on innovation point towards the need for both in-house research and development (R&D) capabilities along with collaborations with external organisations or linkages with other firms, universities and research institutes. The argument is that innovation is not just a firm specific factor but requires support from several other factors which in turn involves developing linkages with various actors/institutions as sources of resources and/or knowledge for innovation. This paper presents findings from an exploratory study about the Malaysian biofuel sector as an innovation system. Instead of using the neo-classical approach and proposing policy interventions based on traditional market failure rationale (Bergek et al., 2008a), the functional analysis of the technological innovation systems (TIS) approach is used to analyse the biofuel sector in Malaysia to help reveal the strengths and weaknesses in terms of its fulfillment of seven critical functions which are necessary for the generation and commercialization of a product. In addition an attempt is made to reveal the inducement and blocking mechanisms affecting the Malaysian biofuel TIS and the seeking of improved poor functionality. These functional aspects of the Malaysian biofuel sector are analysed in different phases of its development to gain an understanding of the different institutions and their functions at different phases of the development of the innovation system.

  • Recently those who visit a fishing village is increasing. So the government's policymaker is interested in a tourism of fishing village. There are a lot of local governments that they turn it to good account to activate the fishing community. So they plan for the tourism facility in the fishing village and invest in it. The fishery facility can playa role in it. Nonetheless it is not playing a role in tourism facility. Though the breakwaters projecting far into the sea are good waterfront, most of them are not reflecting the function of it. And fishery facility producing seed is a good resource of eco-tourism, but it is yet a tourist potential. Although the artificial reef is going far toward promoting a fishery resource, it is seldom used as a tourism resource. The multiple functions of fishery facilities have to be improved to raise the investment effect of them. Especially the tourism function has to be added on their basic function. The multiple functions of fishery facilities is necessary to satisfy tourist's needs. In results, not only their value but also value of fishing village will be raised.

A Variability Analysis on the Flatfish Production and Revenue using Expectation Hypotheses and GARCH Model

  • This work studies the variability of flatfish sales revenue. The theoretical analysis draws functions for equilibrium price and quantity using expectation hypotheses. The functions include unpredictable phenomenon with dummy variable and GARCH. The equilibrium function, using adaptive expectation hypothesis, contains the independent variables of supply and demand, while the equilibrium function, embodying rational expectation hypothesis, includes only the independent variables of supply side, because the demand side disappears by the information extraction process theoretically, if economic subjects build the expectation rational. The empirical analysis shows: the variability of flatfish production has a spillover effect on the variability of revenue with the adaptive expectation hypothesis. In the case when the model has a rational expectation hypothesis, the variability of flatfish production has a spillover effect on the revenue (the mean equation of GARCH model). This study indicates that there is the variability in flatfish production and sales revenue, and the spillover effect between them. The result can help to build of the rational system for the fishery income stability.

  • Along with the rapid emergence of the Internet and e-commerce, online auctions are hitting the spotlights. The inconveniences found in off-line auctions, such as time and place restriction and limited number of items, are solved in the online auction. However, not so many auction sites have integrated auction information systems, which monitor the present status of auctions, resulting in greater inconvenience for the online auction users. Moreover, there is no auction site that suggests the appropriate starting or closing price that is useful for users when they make, their bids, What the online auction users need is an auction system that can solve such problems. This study is purported for solving the problems by designing and implementing a real time auction system that applies the comparison search functions and the agent functions. In other words, an integrated database system using a bidder-oriented agent for providing information is built so that the users can search and compare the information on the item they are interested in and make a faster and more accurate purchase. Also the appropriate starting and closing prices are offered to the sellers and bidders through the integrated system for a closer and more accurate comparison and analysis of the prices. For future work, the product recommendation service, which accurately reflects the bidding patterns, and the methods for studying the multi bidding pattern will be applied to the suggested system to realize a real time auction information system that supports CRM(Customer Relationship Management) .

학교정보관리시스템의 효용성 제고 - 제 문제와 개선방안 - (Usability Improvements in the School Information Management System - Issues and Suggestions -)

  • The National Education Information System(NEIS) has been utilized in primary and secondary schools. In this paper, we consider the NEIS should be used not only for educational administration affairs, but also for a lifelong management of national human resource. The current School Information Management System(SIMS), including the NEIS, is unsatisfactory due to the insufficiency of actual field suitability and end-user's conveniency. To this, we have devised improvements of the SIMS in the seven problem areas: ) The core business process of the school should be analyzed sufficiently and reflected in SIMS. (2) We should fully utilize groupware functions which activate the learning organization. (3) We might apply and use the CRM techniques of enterprises in SIMS. (4) The SIMS should be easy to make necessary school assessment data. (5) We should complement functions of the SIMS for a lifelong healthcare information management of national human resource. (6) The SIMS should support the school lunch management. (7) We should bring BOM and work-flow concepts into the SIMS.

통신망 운용관리를 위한 실시간 프로세스 운용관리 시스템의 설계 및 분석 (Design and Implementation of A Real Time Process Management System for Telecom Operations and Management)

  • 계속적으로 빠르게 변화하는 통신환경에 대처하기 위하여 통신 기업은 운영상에 일어날 수 있는 이상 event들을 빠르게 발견하고 이를 운영요원에게 실시간으로 알려주는 시스템의 도입이 필요하게 되었다. 이러한 실시간 프로세스관리 시스템은 또한 통신회사들이 제공하는 다양한 새로운 서비스들을 빠르게 수용할 수 있어야 한다. 본고에서는 실시간으로 통신망 운용관리 프로세스를 모니터링하고 분석할 수 있는 프로세스관리 시스템을 설계 및 개발한다. 이러한 목표를 이루기 위하여 본고는 통신망 운용관리 분야의 국제표준으로 인정된 Enhanced Telecom Operations Map (eTOM)을 기반으로 하여 application 및 database 구조를 설계하며 이를 바탕으로 실시간 종합 프로세스 상태 모니터링, 실시간 작업상태 모니터링, 조직별 오더 모니터링 등 총 8가지 기능을 구현한다. 이 8가지 기능은 서비스 지향구조로 개발되었으며 따라서 다양한 새로운 서비스들이 이전보다 빠른 속도로 개발될 수 있게 설계 되었다. 또한 실시간으로 프로세스를 관리함으로써 이상 event들을 빠른 속도로 발견할 수 있게 되었다. 마지막으로 이 시스템은 국제 표준기반으로 설계되어짐으로써 다양한 환경 즉 통신망 운용환경이 다른 지역이나 회사에서도 빠르게 개발될 수 있는 flexibility를 가지고 있다. 본 연구는 통신망 운용관리나 또는 다른 분야의 실시간 프로세스관리 시스템을 도입할 필요가 있는 연구자나 실무자에게 좋은 지침이 될 것으로 기대된다.

Examining the Functions of Attributes of Mobile Applications to Build Brand Community

  • Mobile fashion apps present much opportunity for marketers to engage consumers, however not all apps provide enough functions for their targeted audience. This study aims to determine how mobile fashion apps can be used to build brand community with consumer engagement. Qualitative data on fashion mobile apps were collected from the Apple app store and Android market during the spring and summer of 2015. A total of 110 fashion mobile apps were collected;, 50 apps were identified as apparel brands that either manufacture or sell apparel to consumers, which we categorized as "brand" fashion apps, and the remaining 60 were categorized as "non-brand" fashion apps. The result of the study can be summarized as below. The 60 non-brand fashion apps were grouped into 5 app types: shopping, searching, sharing, organizational, and informational. The main functions are for informational use and shopping needs, since at least half (31 apps) are used for either retrieving information or for shopping. However, in contrast, social networking and location were infrequent and not commonly utilized by these apps. The most common type of non-brand fashion apps available were shopping apps;, many shopping apps enable users to shop from several different websites and save their items into one universal shopping cart so that they only check out once. Most of these apps are informational and help consumers make more informed decisions on purchases;, in addition many offer location services to help consumers find these items in store. While these apps perform several functions, they do not link to social media. The 50 brand apps were grouped into 5 brand types: athletic, casual, fast fashion, luxury, and retailer. These apps were also checked for attributes to determine their functionality. The result shows that the main functions of brand fashion apps are for information (82% of the 50 apps) as well as location searching (72% of 50 apps). Conversely, these apps do not offer any photo sharing, and very few have organizational or community functions. Fashion mobile apps and m-marketing elements: To build brand community, mobile apps can be designed to motivate consumer's engagement with brands. The motivations of fashion mobile apps are useful in developing fashion mobile apps. Entertainment motives can be fulfilled with multimedia attributes, functionality motives are satisfied with organizational and location-based features, information motives with informational service, socialization with community and social network, learning and intellectual stimulation from informational attributes, and trend following through photo sharing. The 8 key attributes of mobile apps can correspond to the 4 m-marketing elements (i.e., Informative content, multimedia, interactions, and product promotions) that are further intertwined with m-branding elements. App Attributes and M-Marketing aim to Build Brand Community;, the eight key attributes can impact on 4 m-branding elements, which further contribute to building brand community by affecting consumers' perceptions of brands preference and advocacy, and their likelihood to be loyal.

다변량 판별분석과 로지스틱 회귀모형을 이용한 민간병원의 도산예측 함수와 영향요인 (Discriminant Prediction Function and Its Affecting Factors of Private Hospital Closure by Using Multivariate Discriminant Analysis and Logistic Regression Models)

  • The main purpose of this article is for deriving functions related to the prediction of the closure of the hospitals, and finding out how the discriminant functions affect the closure of the hospitals. Empirical data were collected from 3 years financial statements of 41 private hospitals closed down from 2000 till 2006 and 62 private hospitals in business till now. As a result, the functions related to the prediction of the closure of the private hospital are 4 indices: Return on Assets, Operating Margin, Normal Profit Total Assets, Interest expenses to Total borrowings and bonds payable. From these discriminant functions predicting the closure, I found that the profitability indices - Return on Assets, Operating Margin, Normal Profit Total Assets - are the significant affecting factors. The discriminant functions predicting the closure of the group of the hospitals, 3 years before the closure were Normal Profit to Gross Revenues, Total borrowings and bonds payable to total assets, Total Assets Turnover, Total borrowings and bonds payable to Revenues, Interest expenses to Total borrowings and bonds payable and among them Normal Profit to Gross Revenues, Total borrowings and bonds payable to total assets, Total Assets Turnover, Total borrowings and bonds payable to Revenues are the significant affecting factors. However 2 years before the closure, the discriminant functions predicting the closure of the hospital were Interest expenses to Total borrowings and bonds payable and it was the significant affecting factor. And, one year before the closure, the discriminant functions predicting the closure were Total Assets Turnover, Fixed Assets Turnover, Growth Rate of Total Assets, Growth Rate of Revenues, Interest expenses to Revenues, Interest expenses to Total borrowings and bonds payable. Among them, Total Assets Turnover, Growth Rate of Revenues, Interest expenses to Revenues were the significant affecting factors.

정보시스템 아웃소싱의 활용에 관한 탐색적 연구 (An Exploratory Study on the Utilization of Information Systems Outsourcing)

  • In recent years there has been an increasing amount of attention paid to outosourcing of information systems (IS) functions in organizations. The changing and more strategic role of outsourcing in business firms has been given much coverage in academic and trade publications. Trying to remain competitive and up-to-date in the rapidly developing world of computer technology is becoming a financial burden to many organizations in fields such as banking and financial services, health care, and manufacturing. Hiring outsiders to handle part or even all of its information services helps an organization provide better services and maintain a competitive advantage. This paper attempts to provide a benchmark of current IS outsourcing utilization in Korea. A detailed descriptive analysis of survey responses from 78 Korean companies indicates the usage, length of experience, expenditure of outsourcing, and kinds of IS functions being outsourced. The study also analyzes the effects (strategic, economic, and technological) of IS outsourcing with respect to the length of experience, expenditure of outsourcing, and kinds of IS functions being outsourced As a result of the analysis there are significant differences in the strategic, economic and technological effects of IS outsourcing with respect to the expenditure of outsourcing, kinds of IS functions being outsourced and firm size.

AI 키즈폰의 소비자리뷰 분석을 통한 제품개선 전략에 대한 연구 (Formulating Strategies from Consumer Opinion Analysis on AI Kids Phone using Text Mining)

  • 기업은 소비자가 만족하는 제품을 개발하고 개선하기 위하여 설문조사와 같은 전통적인 마케팅리서치 방법을 이용하여, 소비자의 의견을 듣고, 분석하여 반영하는 노력을 한다. 최근에는 인터넷 사이트, 사회관계망(SNS) 등 소비자 커뮤니케이션 플랫폼에서 관련 자료를 수집하고 분석하는 방법이 주목을 받고 있다. 한편, 급속한 정보통신기술의 발달과 함께 이동통신사들이 아동을 위한 디지털상품을 출시하고 있는데, 특히 유해한 콘텐츠로부터 아동을 보호하고, 부모와 아동들에게 필요한 정보와 기능은 보완된 디지털 디바이스들이 등장하고 있다. 이 가운데 키즈폰은 불필요한 기능은 없애고 아동들에게 기본 안전 기능을 담은 웨어러블 디바이스로서 부모가 쉽게 자녀의 위치를 실시간으로 알게 해주는 유용한 도구이다. 키즈폰은 스마트폰에 비해 저렴하고 간편하지만 고장이 잦고, 안전 이외에 유용한 기능을 기대하기 힘들며, 부가적인 기능들 또한 유용하지 못하다는 점이 지적되고 있다. 본 연구는 국내 이동통신사의 키즈폰(Kids Phone)에 대한 리뷰를 분석하여, 제품들의 특성과 장단점을 파악하고, 디바이스와 서비스에 대한 개선방안을 제안함으로써, SNS 소비자 분석을 통한 제품 서비스 개선 전략수립 방법을 제시하고자 한다. 이를 위해 국내 쇼핑몰의 리뷰 섹션에서 자료를 수집하고, TF/IDF, 감성분석, 네트워크분석 등의 텍스트 마이닝 기법을 활용하여 소비자 감성분석을 실시하였다. 고객 리뷰는 온라인 쇼핑몰과 네이버 블로그에서 크롤링하여 수집 하였으며, 통계/데이터 마이닝 및 그래픽은 'R'과 빅데이터 분석 솔루션 'Textom', 그리고 오픈소스 프로그래밍 언어인 'Python'을 함께 사용하여 분석하고 시각화하였다. 본 연구를 통해 각 이동통신사의 현재 제품(키즈폰)에 대한 소비자가 느끼는 주요이슈와 제품의 장단점을 파악할 수 있었으며, 더 나아가 감성분석을 바탕으로 키즈폰 제품의 서비스 개선전략 방향을 제안할 수 있었다.
