This study has analyzed the vegetation structure to suggest a vegetation ecological restoration model by using the case of the afforestation for erosion control area with Pinus koreaiensis and Betula platyphylla, etc., on the hills of the Young-in mountains after its great fire in 2000. Of the area having a dimension of $1,152,404.3m^2$ selected as a survey site for the existing vegetation, the forest fire area accounted for 69.2% among which, brushwoods accounted the most for 24.67%. As a result of analysis of the 27 surveyed unit plots[unit dimension: $100m^2$] set up in consideration of the existing vegetation pattern and damaged state from the forest fire, the surveyed area was classified into 10 communities. Shrub layer's vegetation was found to be dominant in forest fire areas and the surveyed sites were classified into 5 plant communities, i.e. P. koraiensis community, Quercus variabilis community, P. thunbergii community, Q. serrata community, B. platyphylla community in forest fire areas, while non-forest fire areas were classified into 5 plant communities, such as P. densiflora community, Q. acutissima community, Q. serrata community, Q. mongolica-Q. serrata community, B. platyphylla community. Species diversity of forest fire areas was $0.3679{\sim}0.5907$ and that of non-forest fire areas was $0.5728{\sim}0.8865$. In addition, the number of the species in the forest fire areas was $5{\sim}8$ and that of non-forest areas was $8{\sim}12$; however, the population of forest fire areas$(156{\sim}456)$ was higher than that of non-forest fire areas$(61{\sim}227)$. In the analysis of growth density per layer$[of\;100m^2]$, there appeared $1{\sim}8$ trees of Q. mongolica and $3{\sim}5$ trees of Q. serrata in the upper layer species; $2{\sim}4$ trees of Q. serrata and one tree of Q. mongolica in the canopy layer. As for the characteristics of soil, acidity of forest fire areas was pH 5.45 and that of non-forest fire was pH 5.25. By setting up the middle D.B.H range of Q. mongolica-Q. serrata community as the vegetation restoration model, planting species, planting density and planting models are suggested.
This study building materials by relates to human hazard assessment in accordance with the combustion gas SEM, the flame-retardant foam FTIR and cone calorimeter to configure the Forest products of MDF and preservative treated Lauan two kinds of Retardant styrofoam, Styrofoam, Urethane foam and gypsum board four kinds of plastics material by the combustion gas were each analyzed. MDF was burned to the structure of the wood and the glue evenly mixed combustion area preservative treated Lauan, kept constant even in the form of high heat to penetrate deep into the wood flame retardant agents. Retardant styrofoam is due to feed my Dropped dissolved inorganic flame retardant without the fire-stick and confirmed that the weak form of gypsum board, but keep the column. In MDF ammonia ($NH_3$), lethal concentration (750 ppm) compared to 795 ppm, preservative treated Lauan is carbon dioxide ($CO_2$) that was greater than 2.5 times the lethal concentration (100,000 ppm) to 256,965 ppm, the lethal concentration (500 ppm) of hydrogen chloride (HCl). The Urethane greater than 697 ppm, 434 ppm also greatly exceeding the nitrogen dioxide ($NO_2$) lethal concentration (250 ppm) in Retardant styrofoam and 398 ppm was released. It is confirmed that the human body is extremely harmful gas emitted from most of the materials to be utilized as basic data for evaluating the hazard-specific human future building material.
It is necessary to examine relationship between spatial patterns of forest types and characteristics of forest fires for efficient management of fire and forest. By the ecoregions of South Korea, we computed landscape indices for whole types of forests(landscape level) and pine forests(class level), and analyzed characteristics of forest fires using statistics of forest fires from 1991 to 2006. We performed canonical correlation analysis to model the relationship between the landscape indices and the statistics of forest fires. At landscape level, forest patches were larger and more complex in the ecoregions which had higher percentage of forest area. At class level, pine forest patches were more complex and closer to neighbor patches in the coastal ecoregions. The ecoregions including metropolitan areas and cities had more frequent fire occurrences per 1,000ha, while mountainous coastal ecoregions had more burned areas and faster spread of fire growth rate. The canonical correlation between the landscape indices for pine forests and the statistics of forest fires was statistically significant at the 0.05 level and explained more than 70% of the variation in fire variables. The results showed that combustion time per fire was longer in the ecoregions which had larger and more aggregated pine forest patches.

Intelligent Motion Planning System(IMPS) is presented for a robot to achieve an efficient path toward the given target point in two dimensional unknown environment is constructed with unrestricted obstacle shapes. IMPS consists of three components for making intelligent motion. These components are real-time motion planning algorithm based on a discontinous boundary method, fuzzy neural network decision system for heuristic knowledge representation, and world modeling with forgetting and reinforcing memory cells. First of all, in real-time motion planning algorithm, the behavior-based architectural method is used to generate subgoal. A behavior generates a subgoal independently by using the method of discontinuous boundary in sensed area. The discontinuous boundary method is a new proposed fast obstacle avoidance algorithm. The second component is fuzzy neural network decision system for accomplishing the subgoal. The heuristic rules are imbedded on the fuzzy neural network to make an intelligent decision. The last one is a forgetting, reinforcing memory technique for the construction of external world map. The activation values of all activated memory cells in grid space are decreased monotonically and after all they are burned out. Therefore, after sufficient journey, robot can have a stationary world map even if the dynaic obstacles exist. Using the IMPS, several simulations show the efficient achievement of target point in unknown enviroment with obstcles of various shapes.
The aim of the present study was to assess the role of protein kinase C (PKC) in the development of cardiac injury following scald burn. Sprague-Dawley rats were induced a scald burn a 15% total body surface area. Phorbol 12-myristate 13-acetate (PMA, 2 mg/kg) and bisindolylmaleimide (BIS, 0.05 mg/kg) were immediately administered i.p. after burn injury. 5 h and 24 h later, heart was removed and examined biochemical assay, ultrastructural changes and stereological analysis. The activity of serum aspartate aminotransferase was significantly increased at 5h (p<0.01) and 5h+BIS (p<0.001) after burn compared with that of control. The activity of serum creatinine was significantly decreased in PMA-treated groups after burn compared with postburn 5 h. PMA caused a decrease in MPO activity and induced wavy fibers in cardiac myocytes at postburn 5 and 24h. BIS induced contraction band, separation of intercalated disk and abnormal mitochondria in cardiac myocytes at postburn 5 and 24h. In stereological analysis, treatment of rats with PMA increased volume density of myofibril and mitochondria compared with postburn 5 and 24h. Our data suggest that the activation of PKC in scald burned heart decreases inflammation and protects the myocardium.
Permanent water supply and water sprinkling systems are essential to protect major forests and facilities from forest fire. Back in 2005, Naksan Temple, a valuable cultural asset of Korea, was burned down in a forest fire that took place in Yangyang. This started a series of movements including installing water supply facilities and managing forests near important cultural assets. As for the existing facilities, however, they were installed without any standard guidelines for management and installation according to each constructor's specifications, which were based on the National Fire Safety Code 109. Unfortunately, this is not effective in protecting facilities from forest fires such as they have a small protection area, limited simultaneous sprinkling, and a difficult the movement of fire hose. Against this background, the study examines the condition of water supply facilities currently in use, identifies their deficiencies, and suggests how to improve the criteria for water supply service to effectively prevent forest fire. Specifically, three systems were proposed: Water Sprinkler Tower System for preventing spread of crown fires, and Forest Fire Hydrant System and Portable Water Spray System to be effective for suppressing surface fires. In addition, the standards on the performance and components of water pumps are also suggested.

The study was conducted to determine the effects of forest restoration methods and stand structure on solar radiation, air temperature, relative humidity, soil temperature, and soil water content, based on volume, in forest stand after forest fire. The changes of the micro-climate elements in naturally and artificially restored forest after forest fire were measured in Goseong and Samcheok, Gangwon province. Pinus spp. were commonly appeared in ridges, barren lands or planted areas of the study sites while the other areas were dominated by Quercus spp. In the early stage, trees in the naturally regenerated site grow better than the trees in artificially rehabilitated site. However, the growth ratio rapidly decreased by time passed in natural regeneration area. The environmental conditions (solar radiation, air temperature, relative humidity, soil temperature and soil water content) were significantly different by the regions and the methods (p<.05). However, the coefficients of variations of the environmental conditions were not significantly different at 95% confidence level. As the coverage and tree height in crown layer increased, the relative humidity and soil water content were increased while the temperature and solar radiation were decreased. Especially, the relative humidity, solar radiation, and soil water content were clearly affected by the tree height and coverage ratio ($R^2$ means from 0.628 to 0.924). Even though the data should have collected at least more than 5 years in meteorological analysis, the two year results show some clear relationship between forest structure and microclimate elements.

Recently, Both rapid economic growth and high-quality native finishing materials demand in buildings such as local infrastructure facilities and cultural facilities have increased along with local quarries. So, increasing local quarries and environmental pollution occurred in quarries get the eyes to damaged area of the surroundings. As an example, carcinogen such as solid formed to fixing asbestos and dust have damaged to local resident. Especially, Radon gas released from asbestos can exist everywhere on earth, released soil and rock as radioactive substances, can be caused lung cancer followed by a smoking. When pollution source to indoor air quality that lacking ventilation rate of the residential building moved in a cycle, human responses such as headache, dizziness, etc. get appear, so on it threatened resident's physical condition. Thus, we need to urgent attention to reduction harmful substance. In the case of radon gas of the pollution source to indoor air quality in housing, it has characteristic that keep on going through half-life released from source, we need to control radon gas source than source removal. We set on vermiculite addition ratio to 10% which has harmful substances adsorption performance, proceed experiment to basalt waste rock addition ratio 50, 60, 70, 80(%). The result of an experiment, based on 'KS F 4035, precast terrazzo', we can be obtainable in the best terrazzo at basalt waste rock addition ratio 70%.

Marjolin's ulcer is a rare and often-aggressive cutaneous malignancy that arises in previously traumatized or chronically inflamed skin, particularly after burns. We experienced two cases after burns. Case I involved a forty eight year-old man who had suffered from a flame burn at the parietal scalp area, where had been initially described three years earlier as a full-thickness wound including the pericranium. The man consulted us for a persistent ulcerative and infected wound on the burned lesion during the last 24 months, which turned out on the contrast-enhanced computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) to be the squamous cell carcinoma with involving the skull and the dura mater. Although the posterior auricular lymph node was enlarged on the ipsilateral side, recent positron emission tomography (PET) CT did not show any metastatic lesion. It was impossible for us to resect the intracranial involvement of the tumor radically, and the postoperative PET CT still showed a focal fluorodeoxyglucose (FDG) uptake around the wall of the superior sagittal sinus. We think that an aggressive combined approach is essential for treatment in early stages for a high success rate, before the intracranial structures are involved because there is no consensus on the treatment for advanced disease, and the results are generally poor. Case 1 also did not involve a radical resection because of the intracranial invasion to the wall of superior sagittal sinus and the possibility of damage to the major cortical veins. He received adjuvant radiotherapy and must be followed periodically. Case 2 involved an eighty six year-old women who suffered from a painful scalp ulcer lesion after flame burns three years earlier. Unlike case 1, neither tumor infiltration into the dura nor lymph node enlargement was observed on the contrast-enhanced computed tomography (CT), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), or positron emission tomography (PET) CT. We did a radical resection of the tumor, including the involved bone, and a cranioplasty with bone cement.

As human activities in Korea are spread throughout the mountains, forest fires often affect residential areas, infrastructure, and other facilities. Hence, it is necessary to detect fire-damaged areas quickly to enable support and recovery. Remote sensing is the most efficient tool for this purpose. Fire damage detection experiments were conducted on the east coast of Korea. Because this area comprises a mixture of forest and artificial land cover, data with low resolution are not suitable. We used Sentinel-2 multispectral instrument (MSI) data, which provide adequate temporal and spatial resolution, and the k-nearest neighbor (kNN) algorithm in this study. Six bands of Sentinel-2 MSI and two indices of normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI) and normalized burn ratio (NBR) were used as features for kNN classification. The kNN classifier was trained using 2,000 randomly selected samples in the fire-damaged and undamaged areas. Outliers were removed and a forest type map was used to improve classification performance. Numerous experiments for various neighbors for kNN and feature combinations have been conducted using bi-temporal and uni-temporal approaches. The bi-temporal classification performed better than the uni-temporal classification. However, the uni-temporal classification was able to detect severely damaged areas.
