A study on Pedestrian Accident Reconstruction Models: Comparison and Improvement (보행자-차량 충돌사고 재현모형 비교분석 및 개선 연구)

  • This study presents comparison results for pedestrian accident reconstruction models representing the relationship between collision speed and horizontal distance that a body travels while falling and sliding. A set of 49 reliable pedestrian accident cases are applied to compare the existing reconstruction models. In addition, the authors investigate the effects of a set of parameters associated with the effects of the frontal shape of a vehicle on the horizontal distance a pedestrian travels while falling and sliding. It has been revealed that the length of the bumper is the most dominant factor to affect the horizontal distance of pedestrian travel after collision. Further analyses utilizing more accident data need to conducted to develop a more accurate and reliable reconstruction model.

  • This paper describes the development process of body and full vehicle for reduced idle vibration through the data level of frequency and sensitivity. The vibration mode map is used to separate body structure modes from resonance of engine idle nm and steering system. This paper describes the analysis approach process to reduce the variation of uncertainties for idle vibration performance at initial design stage. The robust design method is performed to increase the stabilization performance under vehicle vibration. It is used to predict the effects of the stiffness deviation according to the spot welding condition of the body structure. The tolerance associated with hood over slam bumper is analyzed for the quality deviation of the moving system in full vehicle. And the glass sealant stiffness and weight difference is considered for the deviation characteristic. The design guideline is suggested considering sensitivity about body and full vehicle by using mother car at initial design stage. It makes possible to design the good NVH performance and save vehicles to be used in tests. These improvements can lead to shortening the time needed to develop better vehicles.

  • In roll forming process, a sheet metal is continuously progressively formed into a product with required cross-section and longitudinal shape, such as a circular tube with required diameter, wall-thickness and straightness, by passing through a series of forming rolls in arranged in tandem. In this process, each pair of forming rolls installed in a forming machine play a particular role in making up the required cross-section and longitudinal shape of the product. In recent years, that process is often applied to the bumper rail in the automotive industries. In this study, a optimal roll flower model and proper roll-pass sequence can be suggested by analyzing courcenter strain and longitudinal strain according to the roll-pass with FEM simulation. And also effects of the process parameters on the final shape formed by roll forming defects a evaluated.

Simulation Analysis on Impact of Automotive Body (차체의 충돌에 관한 시뮬레이션 해석)

  • This study analyzes the result with dynamic simulation about deformation according to time when a car impacts bollard. These results are shown as followings. The maximum deformation is shown at the lower part of front grass in case of the impact of front or passenger seat but this deformation is shown at the lower part of rear bumper in case of double impact. The maximum equivalent stress is shown at the upper part by the side grass of driver seat at the elapsed time of 0.00075 second after impact in case of the impact of front or passenger seat but this deformation is shown at the front bonnet at the elapsed time of 0.004 second after the additional impact in case of double impact. The maximum total deformation or equivalent stress is shown nearly same in case of the impact of front or passenger seat. But the value of this deformation or equivalent stress in case of the impact of front or passenger seat is shown with 2 times or more than 17% respectively as this value in case of double impact.

화학반응에 의한 무기-유기 결합물질에 관하여

  • 플라스틱재료의 강도, 인성, 경직성, 탄성 등과 같은 기계적 특성을 개선시켜 주기 위해 kaoline, talc, sand, quartz 등과 같은 규산염을 첨가하여 복합재료를 만들고자 하는 연구가 상당히 활발하다. 이와 같이 다양한 규산염이 복합재료의 강화재 또는 첨가제로 사용되는 반면에, 규산염가운데 공업적으로 이용도가 가장 높은 montmorillonite는 아직도 복합재료의 강화재로 폭 넓게 이용되고 있지 못한 실정이다. 이론적으로 볼 때, 높은 분자량을 지니는 무기고분자 (예; inorganic montmorillonite)와 유기고분자 (organic polymer)를 gkadbk는 실질적인 무기-유기 결합물질의 생성이 가능할 수 있으며, 이에 대한 연구 또한 시도되고 있다. 이렇게 해서 얻게 되는 무기-유기 복합체, 즉 montmorillonite로 강화된 플라스틱 복합재료 bumper를 사용함으로써 접촉 또는 충돌시 충격완화의 효과를 가져 올 수 있어 안정성이 좋아지고, 내파괴성이 높기 때문에 비강화 플라스틱재료보다 더 오래 사용할 수 있으므로 경제성이 좋을 뿐만 아니라, 폐품의 감소로 인해 환경보호에도 일익을 담당할 수 있다. 따라서, 본 연구에서는 이러한 montmorillonite강화 플라스틱 복합체를 얻기 위해 우선 무기-유기 고분자물질의 형성이 가능한가를 조사분석하였다. 이를 위해 먼저 amontmorillonite의 층사이에서 화학반응이 수행될 수 있는 충분한 공간을 얻고자 Na-Montmorillonite 층사이의 Na+-이온을 긴 알킬사슬을 취하는 유기 양이온으로 치환시켜 주었다; 이렇게 해서 얻은 유기양이온-몬트모릴로나이트 층간화합물 (Organic cation-Montmorillonite Intercalations-complex)내에 유기 단분자 (organic monomer)를 추가적으로 삽입시킨 후, montmorilonite의 층내에서 증합반응시켜 고분자화해 줌으로써 무기고분자와 유기고분자가 서로 결합된 무기-유기고분자 결합물질을 형성하고자 하였다. X-선 및 IR-분석결과 층내에서의 유기단분자의 고분자화 반응이 성공적으로 이루어 졌음이 입증되었다.

  • 이제까지 polyurethane 탄성체(彈性體)에 대한 새로운 연구분야(硏究分野)와 급속(急速)히 변화(變化)되어 가고 있는 polyurethane 제품(製品)의 응용면(應用面에) 대해 알아보았다. 예(例)의 대부분(大部分)은 미국(美國)의 Goodyear tyre & Rubber Co 연구소(硏究所)에서의 연구(硏究) 및 개발(開發)된 것을 기본(基本)으로 하였다. 자동차(自動車)의 내부부분(內部部分), 특히 Crashpad 및 기타 내부부분(內部部分), 고무제자동차(製自動車) bumper의 가능성(可能性), solid tyre, 연료용기(燃料用器) 정지용 belt 장치(裝置), 접착제(接着劑), 고무 Roll, 통풍용치차(通風用用齒車), 진동통(振動桶)과 흥미(興味)진진한 응용면(應用面)에 관한 다른 분야(分野)에 관(關)한 응용(應用)을 검토(檢討)하였다. 화학약품(化學藥品)의 저항성혹(抵抗性或)은 비저항성(非抵抗性)을 가진 새로운응용의 개발(開發)이 urethanr 응용(應用)의 새로운 길을 넓게 열어 놓았다. 합성피혁(合成皮革)과 피혁(皮革)의 Coating 물(物)은 완전(完全)이 polyruethane 기술(技術)에 기초(基礎)를 두게되었다. 특유(特有)한 혼합기기(混合機械)의 개발(開發)은 가격(價格) 및 질(質)에 커다란 영향을 미치게 될 것이다. polyurethane 연구(硏究)의 흥미(興味)있는 분야(分野)는 인공기관(人工器官)에 관(關)한 의학적(醫學的)인 연구(硏究)이다. 우리들이 장래(將來)를 내다볼적에 융통성(融通性) 있는 polyurethane 탄성체(彈性體의) 응용(應用)은 아직도 개발(開發)될 여지가 많이 남아있다는 것을 쉽게 예측할 수 있다. 그 이유(理由)는 polyurethane의 구조적(構造的) 특성(特性), 성능(性能)및 응용(應用)의 가능성(可能性) 및 그의 양식(樣式)이다.

An Experimental Study for the Effect of the Density of Polypropylene Foams on the Absorption of Impact Energy (폴리프로필렌 폼 밀도가 충격에너지 흡수에 미치는 영향에 대한 실험적 연구)

  • Polypropylene(PP) foams are widely used as protective materials such as automotive bumper and safety helmet, but whose dynamic behaviour are not well defined. In this paper, the compression tests by Split Hopkinson Pressure Bar were conducted to obtain the stress-strain curve and to investigate the effect of density on the absorption of impact energy in the PP foams. Three kinds of foams were chosen depending upon the density. The result of the experiment has revealed that the stiffness of the low-density PP foam is remarkably increased at high strain rate compared with that of the high-density PP foam. And it is also shown that the absorption of impact energy are greatly influenced by the density of PP foam. These results are expected to be utilized for the development of a protective structure with polymer foams.

Optimization of filling process in RTM using genetic algorithm

  • In resin transfer molding (RTM) process, preplaced fiber mat is set up in a mold and thermoset resin is injected into the mold. An important interest in RTM process is to minimize cycle time without sacrificing part quality or increasing cost. In this study, the numerical simulation and optimization process in filling stage were conducted in order to determine the optimum gate locations. Control volume finite element method (CVFEM) was used in this numerical analysis with the coordinate transformation method to analyze the complex 3-dimensional structure. Experiments were performed to monitor the flow front to validate simulation results. The results of numerical simulation predicted well the experimental results with every single, simultaneous and sequential injection procedure. We performed the optimization analysis for the sequential injection procedure to minimize fill time. The complex geometry of an automobile bumper core was chosen. Genetic algorithm was used in order to determine the optimum gate locations with regard to 3-step sequential injection case. These results could provide the information of the optimum gate locations in each injection step and could predict fill time and flow front.

A Basic Investigation on the Characteristics of Traffic Flow for the Capacity Analysis of Signalized Intersections (교차로 용량분석을 위한 교통류 특성 기초조사)

  • This study concentrates on a basic investigation research related to some of parameters to be used for the analysis of capacity and the level of service for signalized intersections. The parameters to be studied are ideal saturation flow rate, large vehicle's passenger car equivalent(PCE) ane the lane utilization factors of through and left turn vehicles. The field data were collected at six intersections in Seoul using video cameras so as to reflect conditions in urban areas. In this study discharge headway based on a rear bumper of each vehicle was used and all the parameters were estimated using a regression technique. The findings of this research are as follows : 1. The saturation headway and saturation flow rate on a single lane with the lane width of 3.1m are 1.652 seconds and 2,180 pcphgpl. It was found that the frist 5 vehicles in the queue experience some start-up lost time. 2. It was confirmed that the new method adopted for the estimate of large vehicle's PCE gives larger PCE values than those derived from the method commonly used. 3. For the estimate of lane utilization factors of through and left turn vehicles, a relationship was established and the corresponding formulas were developed.

Development of Safe Hood for Pedestrian Protection (보행자 보호를 위한 안전 후드 개발)

  • Most pedestrian-vehicle crashes involve frontal impacts, and the vehicle front structures are responsible for most pedestrian injuries. The vehicle bumper contacts the lower legs at first. The leading edge of the hood (bonnet) strikes the proximal upper leg and finally, the head and upper torso hit the top surface of the hood or windscreen. In essence, the pedestrian wraps around the front of the vehicle until pedestrian and vehicle are traveling at the same speed. Since the hood surface is made from sheet metal, it is a relatively compliant structure and does not pose a major risk for severe head trauma. However, serious head injury can occur when the head hits a region of the hood with stiff underlying structures such as engine components. The solution is to provide sufficient clearance between the hood and underlying structures for controlled deceleration of a pedestrian's head. However, considerations of aerodynamic design and styling can make it extremely difficult to alter a vehicle's front end geometry to provide more under-hood space. In this study, the safe hood will be developed by designing new conceptual inner panel in order to decrease the pedestrian's head injuries without changing hood outer geometry.
