CRITICAL SUCCESS FACTORS OF A BUILDING DESIGN TEAM

  • The success of a building design team is achieved as a result of a combination of multiple events/factors and interactions, and has a great impact on the quality of the building construction process. While most of previous studies have focused on quality of the construction process, the success of a design team has not been completely investigated. This paper presents the critical factors that impact the success of a building design team and describes an assessment tool to measure the successful performance of the design team with respect to the critical factors. The development of the assessment tool employs the concept of quality function deployment (QFD), a technique to measure the service quality of an organization.

Site Quality Evaluation Prototype for Building Deck-plate Construction

  • Deck-plates are widely used on construction sites, and have the advantage of enabling contractors to achieve a relatively uniform quality. But nevertheless, quality deviation in deck-plate construction can occur as the result of differences in site conditions and the experience of crew workers. In this study, the authors present a site quality evaluation prototype for building deck-plate construction. Through analyses of case studies and interviews with experts, standard quality check sheets and a quality management index were developed by estimating the importance of quality check items based on a Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA) method. The applicability and effectiveness of the prototype was evaluated through a case study and interviews with case participants. It was found that the prototype promoted an active quality management as a way of continuously improving quality management in deck-plate construction instead of passive quality inspection practice.

A Study on Indoor Environmental Quality Evaluation in Apartment Buildings - Focus on Apartment Buildings in USA - (공동주택에서의 실내환경의 질 평가에 관한 연구 - 미국 공동주택 사례를 중심으로 -)

  • Residential Buildings should provide high-quality, comfortable environments to support the activities of their occupants. The indoor environment of residential buildings, which includes thermal, lighting, acoustic, and indoor air quality, has a significant impact on health and quality of life. The comfortable living environment in residential buildings result from appropriately combining these environmental quality factors, and the performance of building systems must be compatible with the activities of the occupants. The objective of this research is to investigate and analyze the relationship between physical environmental conditions and occupant responses for improving environmental quality (EQ) in apartment buildings with four different building orientations (i.e. E, W, S, N) in two different seasons (i.e. winter and summer). The occupant survey was conducted in actual apartment buildings. The Physical environmental conditions in apartment buildings differed substantially depending on space, outdoor weather conditions and building orientations. Each space within the same apartment building had different environmental conditions. Combinations of unbalanced physical environmental conditions in apartment building decrease occupants' satisfactions and their perceptions of overall residential quality. Occupants' satisfaction and their responses to physical characteristics of their residential environment is related to thermal, lighting, acoustic, and indoor air conditions in their buildings. The result from this research will help designers and researchers to identify problems and develop solutions for improving environmental quality from the occupants' point of view.

On these time, need quality increase of construction to possess government official and international competitiveness of customer satisfaction by offering consumer building of good quality. Therefore, must establish direction to inspects and must advance forward formation government official's present actual conditions for building company's QI. This study is as following if summarize studying result of formation government official to improve quality in construction spot. First, formation's CEO will for QI need side improvement the formation government official enemy by important thing. Second, at checking activity and systematic action that participate of responsible persons cooperation enterprise space-time by complete charge department organization should be achieved. Third, complete charge department for quality control operation large size construction firm substantially formation Organizational well operate, but heavy hydrogen building company was construed by greatly unprepared misgovernment. AHP analysis result complete charge department is serious necessity, and the CEO under direct control organizational structure was construed by thing which can bring excellent effect in operation management side of quality business side and formation. Therefore, heavy hydrogen building company should does to occupy competitive power high position with tissue at active quality complete charge deputy.

  • The object of this study is to examine the managerial characteristics of the Korean building projects. The study in this paperproposes to investigate the factors that affect process quality not only in the construction phase but also in all three phases (design, construction, and operation) of the whole life cycle of a building project. A questionnaire survey is conducted to investigate the differences in the perceptions of graduate students, professors, designers and practitioners with regard to process quality in building projects. Analyzing these factors helps in revising and improving the Korean existing quality control system and programs. The findings indicate that cooperation of designer's professionals, level of management leadership in promoting quality, ability to operate the facility within design limits are important factors. Theparticipation percentage of "quality" treated in any course/seminar shows only 45%. It is recommended that college programs include courses that treat the administrative aspects involved in the building project and that continuing education programs rover quality training.

  • Recycled aggregate has structural limitations in that it cannot be actively used for use as a structural building material due to quality deviations such as increase in cracks, decrease in constructability during in-situ casting, and decrease in strength. Although the government gives incentives to use recycled aggregate concrete for major structural parts of buildings to revitalize recycled aggregate concrete, there is a perception that the quality control of recycled aggregate producers that produce raw materials is insufficient. In this study, recycled aggregate, I checked the quality of the company that handles the quality. We are working on this.

  • This paper presents an automated construction quality nonconformity control method. Existing quality control process are confined attributed to the dependence on human quality personnels. They are inefficiency for continuos quality improvements and may cause project schedule delays when any nonconformity is handled timely fashion. For sure, It is important to identify the add hoc quality nonconformity control processes and to implement them into an automated system that controls its' work-flow. It would be desirable to develop the construction project quality nonconformity control system using Building information modeling(BIM) and Information and Communications Technologies(ICT). It may provide an effective platform to prevent quality issues that exist in the existing quality management practice.

  • As BIM is now being accepted and broadly expanded in the building industry, the demand for developing, managing, submitting, and checking the BIM models has increased. To meet this demand, it is necessary to develop and spread BIM guidelines, standards, and manuals. Meanwhile, as the number of public construction projects increases, the importance of quantifying the BIM quality checking and evaluation also grows. This study aims to enhance our understanding of the definition and characteristics of BIM quality management, and review the current situation of BIM standards worldwide. In particular, by focusing on BIM quality control and its relevant subjects, the minimum standards for BIM quality management are suggested.

  • This research addresses familiarity and degree of using Internet site and trust building to affect service quality in e-commerce. We assume that the familiarity and frequency of using Internet site affect perceived service quality of customer. Also it assumes that customer's trust building intermediates their relationships. Several hypotheses are set to test these assumptions empirically. Consequently, the results show that familiarity of using Internet site affects customer's perceived service quality significantly except for tangible. Also it is found that degree of customer's trust building intermediates the relationship between familiarity of using Internet site and customer's perceived service quality significantly. For gaining good trust of customer in Internet site, we suggest that familiarity should fit into customer's needs.

Development of Check-list for BIM Based Architectural Design Quality Check (BIM 기반 건축설계 품질검토를 위한 체크리스트 개발 연구)

  • The construction industry consists of various and massive architectural information as an architectural process includes a variety of design stages with cooperation of many disciplines. Particularly, architectural information is generated and managed through the life cycle of a building, from conceptual design stage to the construction and maintenance. A Building Information Model (BIM) serves as a shared knowledge resource for information about a facility forming a reliable basis for decisions during its life-cycle from inception onward. BIM technology accomplished quantitative development being utilized in various disciplines. However, it is necessary to develop environment and requirement for qualitative improvement of BIM based project. Particularly, requirement is very important for architectural design evaluations. The purpose of this study is to develop and apply of quality control check-list for improving the quality of architectural design in BIM environments. To achieve this purpose, the authors have investigated case study for open BIM data quality control (software, guideline and application case) and classified quality control targets according to physical/logical quality control and data quality. In addition, the authors have defined open BIM based quality control process and developed quality control check-list. Finally, the authors have developed automatic quality check system using requirements for efficient quality control based on open BIM.
