  • This study is to analyze the remodeling method of library in terms of space extension method and urban regeneration by repurposing function in unused facilities through case study. In many case of library extension, horizontal extensions are more frequent than vertical extensions, because there are limits to extend vertically due to high live load estimation by book stacks. Extension schemes was organized by new building extension method in connection with existing buildings, attaching method small scaled mass or linear mass to existing building, connecting method a plurality of existing small buildings, vertical extension method on the top of the structure, underground extension method using special structure. Unused facility remodeling to the library, large scaled buildings can be developed completely to the function of the library through the relocation of the space, while small scaled building needs spatial extension. In the case of spatial extension, existing space that was used for other purposes can be used as a reading room or office, avoiding high live load estimation.

  • Along with the legalization of balcony extension, numerous contractors have been suggesting designs for apartment houses based on the residents desire for balcony extension. It has been investigated that most residents prefer the balcony extension due to the increase in space. However, numerous residents have been experiencing problems occurred due to the extension such as air conditioning and heating cost and sound insulation problems. Therefore, this study aims to suggest an objective decision making tool for the residents that aids the residents decision making on balcony extension considering pros and cons of balcony extension.

  • There are many demands for vertical extension construction method in domestic large cities. In this paper, we analyzed and presented the results of examining the cases of ground floor extension and basement extension using the jack pile method. Since the Jack Pile method presses in all the piles without excavating the ground, the bearing capacity of the all the piles can be checked. It was investigated as a safe construction method unlike other small-diameter pile construction methods during underground extension.

  • When modern farm houses were built, they were made up of only residential parts. So that many new accessory building-private residential room, toilet, warehouse, storeroom, barn, cattle pen and etc.-were made without any order around modern farm houses. This study is aimed at grasping how the process and contents of extension of the accessory building of modern farm houses have been changed, understands and explicates the reason why accessory buildings of modern farm houses were changed and bring forward better directions about accessory building of modern farm houses at Samchok seashore area of Kangwon Province. The way for it which be made good that the scenery of a rural district was ruined by accessory buildings distributes and develops various standard models about accessory buildings that they are becoming to modern farm houses.

  • The community development program is a project to design to develop rural areas and to enhance the situation of rural community. Participation in community development is the key to promoting efficiency for community development. The purpose of this study was to discuss the result of application of learning phase for capacity building of community development. This study examined cases from rural area, using examples from eight communities that have been able to get people's participation. These examples suggest that the learning phases for rural communities include five important factors: sharing the perception, setting a goal, goal refinement, empowerment, vision setting. After completing the rural community development program, the result of each steps were analyzed. The result of this study contributes to knowledge about phase for capacity building in the community development and suggests ways to increase of effectiveness of rural development program and promote participation based on an understanding of a rural community development context.

  • New Seoul city hall completed in 1926 is a registered historical building. The remodeling plan has been developed for the expansion after the review by the governmental agency. Based on the plan, a new city hall should be constructed behind the current city hall while the facade, the main lobby and the dorm structure of the existing building, A new construction method, FUSEM, has been developed for this mission for the safety of the historical structure.

  • The purpose of this study is to develop mechanisms of nD model-based design by the combination of 2D drawing standards and 3D building models from the current 2D and text-based design. The aim of this study can be archived by defining the 2D model extension definitions for the IFC model development and harmonizing existing 2D standards. The paper examines 1) 3D Representation of Building Element and Building Services element, and 2D Model extension of IFC2X.2, 2) Basic development of additional 2D element that should be added to IFC model, and 3) mapping method between current 2D standard and IFC2.X2. Following this approach, the interoperability problem between 3D model and 2D drawing can be solved and finally an extended data model could be developed.

  • Apartments have been the most prevalent type of housing in Korea for the past few decades. During those times, apartments have emerged as one of the most attractive real estate properties in Korea, with the still growing population living in them. Now that over twenty years have passed since the 1970s and 1980s when apartment construction started booming, building stocks are increasing that need refurbishment. In this concern, apartment extension has raised public interest for the past few years, as the remodeling of them has mainly been considered in terms of increasing asset value in Korea. It comes through in our study that these extension types are examined by such items as building core types, number of rooms and front and rear bays in unit, and other design features related to extension techniques. The objective of this study is to suggest a way to produce the best quality possible of unit plan through extension.

  • This study is intended for validation of numerical modeling of a residential building which is made to simulate a phenomenon of fire extension from floor to floor. A common residential building which has the area of 80m2 each floor and some combustibles were chosen for numerical modeling. The combustible models were verified through comparing results of numerical simulations and real fire tests. For computational analysis, the Fire Dynamics Simulator was used with Large Eddy Simulation model for turbulence. Consequently, fire-intensity was well predicted and flash-over of rooms were successfully estimated.

  • This work was intended as an attempt to introduce and investigate the Connes-amenability of module extension of dual Banach algebras. It is natural to try to study the $weak^*$-continuous derivations on the module extension of dual Banach algebras and also the weak Connes-amenability of such Banach algebras.
