The subjects of this study were limited to Silla buddhist temple remains in the 6~8th century, where the excavation survey report was published and the details of the remains of the corridor are revealed. Since the corridor completes the structure of temple and is involved in formation of the space, the building plan for corridors is thought to have an intention linked to the entire temple. Thus, more closer study is required for this construction plan to identify the role of corridors. The corridor is a building that has a low architectural hierarchy and completes the layout and composition of the temple. In the unit planning of the corridor, unit were designed to be of a certain size in the temple layout. Then, the overall scale was made by adding the fixed size of unit. The combination of corridors are the combined points of paths and were used as visual points. The structure of the corridor was constructed to be adjusted according to the size of the main compartment of the building to which it was connected and inserted under the roof of the building. The adjustment of the unit changed in the range of 0.5 to 2 of Silla's system of measurement. The usage of embedded pillar in the corridor presents a new perspective on Silla architecture.

The architectural design of student circulation space has a pronounced influence on the educational function of a school building. Recent curriculum and new teaching methods have required the sufficient space provided for circulation and various circulation spaces in a school building, such as elevator, pilotis, bridge, atrium, deck, lobby and locker room. However excessive circulation space is wasteful form the standpoint of both initial investment and operation. This study aims to investigate new circulation patterns and functions, and to propose the adequate size in planning a school corridor. For this purpose, it explores the recent trends of the corridor planning represented in the excellent school facilities in 2002. and analyzes the newly-added functions In the school corridor : architectural in-between space, dwelling space for ordinary activities, space for educational media and auxiliary learning space. This research recommends that the corridor width be carefully planned according to the supposed functions in order to achieve the efficiency in the design of school facilities.
In this study, the independent variables are the floor plan configulation. The dependent variables are the occupant's egress behavior, especially spatial movement pattern, and life - safety performance of building. Fire events were simulated on single story of office building. Simulation run for allowable secaping thime(180 seconds) arbitrarily selected, and involved 48 occupants. The major findings Pre as follows. 1) Computer simulation model suggested in this study can be used as the Preoccupancy evaluation method of the life-safety performance for architectural design based on prediction of occupants' egress behavior in the levels of validity and sensitivity, 2) Sucess or failure in occupants' escape is determined by decreasing walking speed caused by jamming at exits or over crowded corridor, and increasing route length caused by running about in confusion at each subdivision and corridor. 3) In floor plan configuration which safe areas located at the extreme ends of the corridor, cellular floor planning have to be avoided preventing jamming and running about in confusion at overcrowded corridor.
This research was undertaken to prove the relationship between street mall activation and architectural plan design. The research methodology was established based on the analysis of data of two existing street malls in Korea (Western Dome & LaFesta) and theoretical studies of outdoor space design. The findings from this study are the following: First, building blocks with segments in every 50m or so are ideal for detailed communication between visitors and building contents. Second, the ratio of width of main corridor and building height should be less than 1 to provide intimate feel and keep visitors' attention concentrated in the facility. Third, store unit should have more storefronts to be exposed more to passers-by and lead more pedestrian traffic. Fourth, shape of store unit would rather be wide and shallow, instead of narrow and deep, to have more exposure to the central corridor. Fifth, the building block of the busiest(most expensive) area that is usually at the main entrance area of street mall should be flexible to fit more smaller units to maximize the profitability. Sixth, the main entrance of store should face the main pedestrian corridor to induce the influx of visitors. Lastly seventh, anchor tenant that has strong name recognition is usually located on basement or higher level to induce pedestrian traffic into the mall, key tenants that are strong and familiar brand names should be located at the corner of building block with spacing to attract visitors, provide even distribution of traffic, and support wayfinding, and local tenant should be located at small units along the central corridor or remainder spaces occurred from building core layout.
This study investigated the smoke blocking and control systems for the safety of residents evacuation and for the prevention of smoke spread through the central corridor in the event of central corridor type of intelligent building fire. We offered additional ways of utilizing smoke ventilators and intake ventilation equipment and utilized CFD-based fire simulation program(FDS Ver.5.5.3) in order to analyze the effect. As a result, many differences in the smoke block effect, depending on the application of smoke ventilator and location of installation, was found. In addition, the result was found that larger effect was showed not in the case of application of smoke ventilator in central corridor only but application in fire room. The reason is that the smoke leakage is blocked primarily as air is flowed in the fire room through open door by operation of intake smoke ventilator in the public corridor and secondarily, the smoke leakage to the public corridor could be blocked as fire and smoke were released to the opened smoke ventilator continuously. Especially, the effect was maximized through complex interactions by applying smoke ventilator and intake ventilation equipment in corridor together rather than applying smoke ventilator and intake ventilation equipment independently. The proposed measure through this study shall be considered from architectural plan as one of ways for blocking from smoke spread to the central corridor in the central corridor type of intelligent building. In addition, flaws on regulation shall be established and supplemented.
The purpose of this study is to identify ways of remodeling from the traditional hanok to the modern local governmental facility in 1910s. Analysing architectural drawings in the National Archives of Korea, 58 hanok remodeling cases of 52 facilities were verified like the provincial office, county office, county court from 1907 to 1910s. Using hanok as the local governmental building, exterior walls were all changed to the scaled-wooden wall like one of western-wooden building in 1910s and the western-style entrance was set. Change of the plan caused by remodeling interior walls had an intention of the centralized closed plan. Remodeled semi-outer corridor using the space of the eave became changed to the inner corridor with expansion of space. Expansion of hanok for spatial demand was in three ways. First was the expansion towards the eave space, second was direct extension from hanok, and last was the use of external corridor to the new building. Using the eave space was simple but had limitation of space, it was planed with other expansion ways. The way of direct extension was usually used than the one with the corridor, because it was more economical way.

The objective of this paper is to construct a model to be used in deciding whether to repair or rebuild school buildings is depending on their ages and other factors. The theme of this paper is the age is the main variable but other factors such as floor, innerwall, ceiling, door, inner window of the class room, outer window of the class room, inner window of the corridor, outer window of the corridor, middle window between the classroom and the corridor, light, heater, speaker, fire protection sensor, TV monitor, and telephone status would influence the final decisions. This paper employs an experimental case study method. Using the stepwise, statistical, classification method commonly used in discriminant analysis, it evaluates 12,766 rooms of 87 different high schools in Seoul. The result of this study indicates that some critical variables influencing the final decisions are the status of TV monitor, middle window between the classroom and the corridor, light, inner window of the corridor, fire protection sensor, innerwall, speaker utensil, outer window of the class room, and door of the class room. This paper also suggests a linear discriminant function will be used for this kind of studies. Finally the paper recommends policies with respect to the variables and discriminant functions evaluated.

The aims of this study are to verify the relationships of evacuee speed and affections to the evacuation time according to the width of corridor and stairs in university education facilities. To achieve these purposes, the present conditions of university education facilities were analyzed, and the evacuation experiments were executed in relation to the width of corridor and stairs. The results of this study are as follows ; (1) The deviations of numbers of residents per stair is very high, and the number and width of stairs, corridors are only depend on the minimum guidelines of building code, not considering the residents' evacuation. (2) The width of corridor and stairs are affects on the evacuation speed and time. The rate of decreasing speed is large in stairs, and also the possibility of danger is increasing depend on the speed and density.

The evaluation of economy of wards is based on the building area. The parameters are nursing area per bed, occupied area per patient, and the portion of movement area. Three areas such as patient area, nurse area, and corridor area are devided. The results of analysis are as follows. At first, allocation of patient area has the highest priority. Even though nurse area is small, the patient area is relatively large. Secondly, the patient area is mostly determined by the type of rooms, such as single, double, etc.. Finally, the type of alley on the floor is important to economy. The single corridor type is the most economical followed by the double corridor type. the single loaded type shows the worst economy.

In the case of medical facilities, the evacuation time is delayed due to the decrease in the number of people in the hallway and exits due to the increase in the width of evacuation by using mobile beds, wheelchairs, crutches, etc. Accordingly, it is considered to secure evacuation capacity to reduce evacuation time according to corridor width and exit width. Accordingly, we would like to compare the standards related to the evacuation capacity of medical facilities in Korea and NFPA, derive differences, and use evacuation simulations to compare evacuation times according to changes in corridor width and exit width. In Korea, it is calculated based on the floor area by use, but in the case of NFPA 101, the number of evacuation routes, stair width, corridor exit width, and two-way door width was stipulated depending on the number of people. Using evacuation simulation, efficient evacuation capacity is calculated according to the reduction of evacuation time by changing the width of the hallway, changing the width of the exit, the width of the corridor, and the width of the exit. The evacuation simulation is intended to be used to secure evacuation safety of domestic medical facilities by calculating the effective evacuation time reduction by changing the width of the hallway and exit.
