  • The component materials threatened by cavitation include ship propellers as well as turbine runners, pump impellers, pipe lines and radiators. Today it is known that cavitation damage takes place on many other components including on the coding water side of the cylinder liners of diesel engines. Cavitation erosion - corrosion implies damage to materials due to the shock pressure or shock wave that results when bubbles form and collapse at a metal surface within a liquid. To suppress cavitation erosion as well as cavitation erosion - corrosion to hydraulic equipment, innovations such as the improvement in the geometric design of the equipment or the selection of suitably resistant construction materials are necessary. In this study, we investigated that the cavitation erosion - corrosion damage under vibratory cavitation can be reduced by adding of side now velocity to the cavitation bubble group in order to eliminate bubbles formed in sea water environment.

수중 충격파에 의한 방사음을 이용한 대상물 파쇄에 관련된 정보분석 (Analysis of Information Related to Object Fragmentation Using Radiated Sounds Due to Underwater Shock Wave)

  • 본 논문은 체외 충격파 파쇄 장치를 사용하여 결석을 파쇄할 때 방사되는 소리에 관계된 정보를 분석한 것이다. 먼저, 방사음으로부터 대상물의 진동을 관찰하고, 대상물의 진동과 방사음 간의 관계를 통하여 피크주파수의 변화에 관한 정보를 추출하였다. 다음에는, 초점의 위치에 따른 피크주파수의 변화를 관찰하여 초점의 바로 위나 아래 부분보다 정확한 초점에서 대상물을 진동시키기가 더욱 어렵다는 사실을 입증하였다. 마지막으로, 캐비테이션과 방사음과의 관계를 분석하여 대상물의 파쇄에 더 유리한 위치를 조사하였다.

  • To understand the complex phenomena performed in steam explosion, the fast and global measurement of the steam distribution is imperative for this extremely rapid transient stimulation of the bubble breakup and coalescence due to turbulent eddies and shock waves. TROI, the experimental facility requests more robust sensor system to meet this requirement. In Europe, researchers are prefer a X-ray method but this method is very expensive and has limited measurement range. There is an alternative technology such as ECT. Because of TROI's geometry, however, we need axial tomography method. This paper reviews image reconstruction algorethms for axial tomography, including Tikhonov regularization and iterative Tikhonov regularization. Axial tomography method is examined by simulation and experiment for typical permittivity distributions. Future works in axial tomography technology is discussed.

Experimental and numerical investigations of near-field underwater explosions

  • Near-field underwater explosion (UNDEX) phenomena were investigated by experiments and numerical simulations. The UNDEX experiments were performed in a water tank using a ship-like model. One kilogram of TNT, one of the most widely used military high explosives, was used for the experiments. Numerical simulations were performed under the same conditions as in the experiments using the commercial software LS-DYNA. Underwater pressures, accelerations, velocities, and strains by shock waves were measured at multiple locations. Further, the bubble pulsation period and the whipping deformations of the ship-like model were explored. The experimental results are presented and examined through comparison with the results obtained from widely used empirical equations and numerical simulations.

천음속 버펫 발단 예측을 위한 새로운 정상 접근 방법 (A New Steady Approach to Predict the Transonic Buffet Onset)

  • 고속 항공기의 천음속 버펫 발단을 예측할 수 있는 새로운 정상 접근 방법을 개발하였다. 본 논문에서는 버펫 발단까지 정상 유동장으로 가정하였다. 본 연구는 다양한 정적 공력 변수들의 급격한 변화 분석을 포함하고 있다. 이러한 급격한 변화는 천음속 버펫의 발단을 지시한다. 본 연구에서 고려된 다양한 공력 변수 가운데 압력 중심점 변화가 가장 명확한 천음속 충격파 버펫 발단 지시자임을 보여준다. 이러한 새로운 정상 접근 방법은 박리기포를 수반하는 익형이나 큰 후퇴각과 작은 종횡비를 갖는 날개의 천음속 버펫 발단 예측에 적용할 수 있다. 버펫 시험결과와 비교하여 좋은 일치를 얻었다. 새로운 정적 접근 방법 결과를 기초로, 압력 중심점 변화 곡선의 급격한 기울기 변화는 항공기 전 기체 형상에 대한 정상 시험 방법 버펫 발단 지시자로 새롭게 제시할 수 있다.

Quench characteristics of YBCO thin films using magnetic field source for superconducting fault current limiters

  • YBCO thin films have good characteristics for current limiting materials due to compact size and high current carrying capability. But the irregularities and the extreme thin thickness of YBCO films cause some difficulties in simultaneous quench and thermal shock protection. In order to solve these problems, vertical magnetic field generated from solenoid coil was applied to the YBCO element. And also to minimize the inductance caused by the serial connection of magnetic field source with superconducting elements, magnetic field source was separated from the power lines adapting protective current transformer. In this study, electric field-current (E-I) and quench characteristics of YBCO films were analyzed both by electrical measuring method and observations of bubble propagation. From the experiment results, it was revealed that the magnetic fields generated by surrounding coil could induce the uniform quench distribution for all stripes of current limiting units and finally simultaneous quenches were realized in all serial connection of YBCO elements. In addition, the separation of magnetic field source form electrical network could be good solution for simultaneous quench of YBCO films without any unnecessary effect caused by serial connection.

급수가열기 동체 감육 현상 규명을 위한 유동해석 연구 (A Study on the Fluid Mixing Analysis for Proving Shell Wall Thinning of a Feedwater Heater)

  • There are multistage preheaters in the power generation plan to improve the thermal efficiency of the plant and to prevent the components from the thermal shock. The energy source of these heaters comes from the extracted two phase fluid of working system. These two-phase fluid can cause the so-called Flow Accelerated Corrosion(FAC) in the extracting piping and the bubble plate of the heater for example, in case of point Beach Nuclear Power Plant and in the Wolsung Nuclear Power Plant. The FAC is due to the mass transport of the thin oxide layer by the convection. FAC is dependent on many parameters such as the operation temperature, void fraction, the fluid velocity and pH of fluid and so on. Therefore, in this paper velocity was calculated by FLUENT code in order to find out the root cause of the wall thinning of the feedwater heaters. It also includeed in the fluid mixing analysis model are around the number 5A feedwater heater shell including the extraction pipeline. To identify the relation between the local velocities and wall thinning, the local velocities according to the analysis results were compared with distribution of the shell wall thicknes by ultrasonic test.

KINEMATICS AND CHEMISTRY OF THE S140/L1204 MOLECULAR COMPLEX

  • The HII region S140 and the associated molecular cloud L1204 have been observed with 10 molecular transitions, CO (1-0), $^{13}CO$ (1-0), $C^{18}O$ (1-0), CS (2-1), $HCO^+$ (1-0), HCN (1-0), SO (${2_2}-{1_1}$), $SO_2(2_{20}-3_{13})$, OCS (8-7), and $HNCO\;(4_{04}-3_{03})$ with ${\sim}50"$ angular resolutions. More than 7,000 spectra were obtained in total. The morphology of this region shows a massive fragment (the S140 core) and the extended envelope to the northeast. Several gas condensations have been identified in the envelope, having masses of ${\sim}10^{3}M_{\odot}$ and gas number densities of ${\lesssim}10^{4}cm^{-3}$ to $3{\times}10^{5}cm^{-3}$ in their cores. The column densities of the observed molecular species toward the S140 core appear to be the typical warm clouds' abundances. It seems to be that the S140 core and L1204 have been swept up by an expanding shell called the Cepheus bubble. The large value of $L_{IR}$(embedded\;stars)/$M_{cloud}\;{\sim}\;5\;L_{\odot}$/$M_{\odot}$ of the S140 core may suggest that the star formation has been stimulated by the HII region, but the shock velocity and the pressure of the region seem to give a hint of the spontaneous star formation by the self gravity.

  • IMF situation in Korean society in 1997 gave huge shock to all areas, such as politics, economy, and society which were covered by bubble economy. It has passed 4 years since IMF but it is continued to increase of consumer price index and depression of the society. Receiving an order in interior design become more and more tense competition domestically as well as internationally, due to the open of WTO. In order to achieve economic design of low cost-high design which pursues the power of competition in cost and quality, this study investigated specific methods for economic design and suggested the directions for economic design in interior design field. To suggest the directions of future interior design for economic design with the analysis of domestic and international cases for economic design. the following results are showed: According to the analysis of the cases, economic design is accomplished with the use of the materials. Interior designers should consider how they can use materials for economic design. Especially, use of cheap materials gives the reduction of the cost and the effects of differentiation of the spaces more. Therefore, experimentalism and knowledge of materials are needed and they should be more weighted as the method for achieving economic design,

천음속 익형 유동에서 비평형 응축이 Drag Divergence Mach Number에 미치는 영향에 관한 수치 해석적 연구 (Numerical Study on the Effect of Non-Equilibrium Condensation on Drag Divergence Mach Number in a Transonic Moist Air Flow)

  • 본 연구에서는 NACA0012 천음속 익형 유동에 있어 비평형 응축이 항력 발산 마하수 $M_D$에 미치는 영향을 TVD 유한 차분법을 사용하여 연구하였다. 받음각 ${\alpha}$가 동일한 경우, 정체점 상대습도 ${\phi}_0$가 높을수록 충격파 직전의 최대 마하수 $M_{max}$는 작게 되고 초음속 영역의 크기도 적게 된다. 주류 마하수 $M_{\infty}$, 정체점 상대습도 ${\phi}_0$ 및 정체온도 $T_0$가 동일한 경우 받음각 ${\alpha}$가 클수록 비평형 응축영역 길이 ${\Delta}_z$은 짧게 된다. 한편, 주류 마하수 $M_{\infty}$와 받음각 ${\alpha}$가 동일한 경우 정체점 상대습도 ${\phi}_0$가 높을수록 조파저항의 감소 때문에 항력계수 $C_D$는 적어진다. $M_D$${\alpha}$가 동일한 경우 ${\phi}_0$가 클수록 크게 되며, ${\phi}_0$가 동일한 경우는 ${\alpha}$가 클수록 $M_D$는 적게 된다.
