  • This paper deals with the characteristic and thermal analysis of brushless motors for Rack assist type Electric Power Steering(REPS). The performance of permanent magnet is under the influence of temperature. To predict the motor performance, the thermal analysis is necessary. The equivalent thermal network is composed of the thermal resistance and the temperature of major parts is calculated according to the operating condition.

  • 자동차 산업의 활성화로 인하여 차량의 연료 소비의 고효율화 및 구동모터의 고정밀 설계 기술의 향상이 대두되고 있는 실정이다. 특히, LPG 차량의 연료 펌프 모터의 고속화, 저진동, 저 소음화의 추세로 인하여 기존의 Brush타입의 DC모터를 대체하기 위한 Brushless DC 모터의 개발이 증대되고 있다. 본 논문에서는 이러한 Brushless DC모터의 고정밀 속도제어 및 빠른 응답 특성을 가지는 제어기를 개발하였으며, 회전자의 위치를 파악하기 위하여 역기전력을 이용한 센서리스형 제어기를 개발하였다. 본 논문에서 개발한 제어기는 가변속도제어범위를 가지며. 2000rpm에서 정격 속도를 가진다. 제어기의 성능 검증을 위하여 정격 속도에서의 단위스텝 응답 특성 실험을 하였으며, 각각의 게인 설정에 따른 제어 성능 실험을 하였다.

A Torque Ripple Reduction Drive Strategy for Permanent Magnet Brushless DC Motor with Imperfect Back Electromotive Force (역기전력을 고려 한 브러시레스 전동기의 토크리플 저감에 관한 구동 방식에 대한 연구)

  • This paper presents a drive strategy to reduce torque ripple of a permanent magnet Brushless DC Motor(BLDCM) with short $120^{\circ}$ flat top Back Electromotive Force(Back-EMF). In this strategy, the phase Back-EMF is divided into four sections. Then, in each section the phase current is regulated by corresponding PWM duty ratio to compensatethe torque ripple caused by imperfect Back-EMF. A program based on this strategy has been implemented in MATLAB@Simulink. The validity of the presented method is verified by simulation results.

  • This study documents the 3-phase BLDC(Brushless DC) motor to improve conventional exhaust fan motor. Energy efficiency, noise, and air pollution reduction for the high-performance vibration of the BLDC motor has been used in many fields. It is necessary to achieve the information of rotor position for driving 3-phase type brushless DC motor. It is also necessary that the PWM control algorithm design for a MOSFET driver to control the motor speed control for each of three phases. BLDC motors for exhaust fan, we studied the controller and software. The control circuit and motor control program through which Exhaust fan up close and person can be used safely and protect the environment.

Effect of Slot Opening on the Cogging Torque of Fractional-Slot Concentrated Winding Permanent Magnet Brushless DC Motor

  • Cogging torque will affect the performance of a permanent magnet Brushless DC Motor (BLDCM), thus the reduction of cogging torque is key for BLDCM optimization. In this paper, the phase shifting of cogging torque for a fractional-slot concentrated winding BLDCM is analyzed using the Maxwell tensor method. Moreover, a 9-slot 10-pole concentrated winding BLDCM driven by ideal square waveform is studied with the finite element method (FEM). An effective method to reduce the cogging torque is obtained by adjusting the slot opening. In addition, the influences of different slot openings on back electromotive force (back-EMF), air gap flux density and flux linkage are investigated and experimentally validated using the prototype BLDCM.

  • This paper is intended to improve efficiency of two-phase BLDC motor using analytical and statistical methods, and then the stability of the starting for the designed model is investigated. The characteristics of the motor according to magnetization directions of permanent magnet are analyzed through the analytical method, and design variables that affect the efficiency are selected. Preliminary optimal design is performed using the analytical method with the design variable. The RSM (Response Surface Method) based on the FEA (Finite Element Analysis) is applied to complement errors of the analytical method. As a result, the optimal design is determined. Finally, the stability of the starting for the optimal designed model is evaluated by analyzing cogging torque, and it is verified through the FEA.

  • A new sensorless control strategy for brushless DC (BLDC) motors is proposed in this paper. This technique builds a rotor position-related flux function, which is independent of the speed. By observing the flux function, the information of rotor position and commutation can be obtained. As the function is not speed-related, this control process can be used in a wider range of speed and improves the motor's performance during startup. An experimental test bad based on TMS320F2812 has been built, and the experimental result indicates that the motor achieves a smooth starting-up and stable phase commutation with the proposed control strategy.

  • This paper discusses the control of generator field using dual IGBT PWM regeneration method to target brushless synchronous generator. If one of PWM bridges happens to fault, it transfers automatically and can be in charge of full load. Also it has an advantage of the operation which UPS connected in parallel with PWM bridge can supply power to excitation system in condition of main power loss. This PWM system supplies field current to generator in one quadrature operation, regenerates field coil energy to main power supplier in four quadrature operation. We designed, manufactured and applied the first trial product at J-power plant.

  • A high-speed brushless DC motor for a 50-kW, 70-krpm turbo-compressor was developed based on a 2-D analytical method, of which design was verified using the FE analysis. A prototype machine was also fabricated and tested to confirm the analytical design. Preliminarily obtained experimental data using the prototype machine shows the validity of the analytical approach.

A Study on the Torque Ripple Reduction in Brushless DC Motors using Disturbance-Observer Controller (BLDC 모터의 토크리플을 줄이기 위한 외란 관측기 기반 제어기 설계에 관한 연구)

  • In this paper, we study the problem of torque ripple minimization in Brushless DC Motors (BLDC) and proposes a disturbance observer (DOB) based controller in order to efficiently reduce the torque ripple. In the DOB based control system, an equivalent disturbance (plant disturbance and effect of modelling error) is cancelled by its estimate. When the DOB controller is applied to BLDC motors, the effect of inverter switching is considered as an equivalent disturbance and to be cancelled by the DOB controller. Through computer simulations, it is shown that the performance of the proposed DOB controller is superior to that of the conventional PI controller. In the case where the numerical values of resistance and inductance are not known exactly, it is shown that the proposed DOB controller achieves better performance than the PI controller.
