Effect of Ensiling Sudax Fodder with Broiler Litter and Candida Yeast on the Changes in pH, Lactic Acid and Nitrogen Fractions

  • Sudax fodder (Sorghum sudanense ${\times}$ Sorhum vulgare) was ensiled in laboratory silos with or without 20, 30, or 40 percent broiler litter and 6 percent molasses with or without Candida yeast. The samples were analyzed for pH, lactic acid and nitrogen fractions at the start of the experiment and at 5 days interval, thereafter till 40 days. A sharp decline in pH and increase in lactic acid content was observed on fifth day of ensiling. Thereafter, the rate of pH decline decreased till 20 days and that of lactic acid increase till 25 days and the remained constant. Increasing levels of broiler litter had adverse effect on pH drop and lactic acid increase of silages. Total-N content of the silages had little variation throughout the ensiling period. A sharp decline in protein-N and increase in ammonia-N content was observed on day 5 of ensiling. Thereafter, the content of protein-N increased till 20 days and that of ammonia-N decreased till 15 days, but these changes were very small compared to that occurred during the first 5 days of ensiling. The level of broiler litter had inverse relationship with protein degradation and direct relationship with ammonia production. The yeast inoculum failed to produce any significant effect.

바닥난방이 육계의 사육환경 및 생산성에 미치는 영향 (Effect of Floor Heating System on Housing Environment and Performance in Broiler Production)

  • This experiment was conducted to investigate the effect of floor heating system on housing environment and performance in broiler production. PVC heating pipes(in 25cm spacing) were covered with concrete under the litter. Floor heating system was compared with conventional direct heating system. Each treatment had two replicates of 110 birds each. Litter moisture content was significantly reduced in floor heating system than conventional direct heating system(P〈0.05). Dust concentration was higher in floor heating system because of low litter moisture content. CO$_2$concentration was 2,900ppm and 1,500ppm on the direct heating system and floor heating system, respectively at the age of 1 week. Body weight was significantly higher in floor heating system at 7 weeks of age(P〈0.05). The results of the trial show that floor heating was useful heating system for broiler production.

한국형 한협 육계의 행동 특성과 성장성에 미치는 Litter Type과 Gender의 영향 (Effects of Litter Type and Gender on Behavior Characteristics and Growth Performance of Korean Hanhyup Broiler)

  • The Korean Hanhyup broiler has commercialized native meat-type chicken. This study aimed to determine the effects of two types of litter material-sawdust and rice husk, and gender on the Korean Hanhyup broiler. Chicks (n=416) were randomly assigned in a $2{\times}2$ factorial design by type of litter material and gender. The behavior of chicken's was monitored continuously for 12 hours during the $1^{st}$ through $8^{th}$ week of age. The time spent on standing, sitting, and walking and the frequency of drinking, feeding, preening, dust bathing, flapping, and aggressive pecking, and pecking of chicken's behavior were recorded. The behavior of chickens during the starter (1 to 4 weeks) and finisher period (5 to 8 weeks) was compared to observe the changes upon maturity. Our results indicate that litter material type and gender have no effect on the behavior of chickens. However, aggressive pecking and pecking caused increment in the rice husk as compared to sawdust (P<0.05). Sawdust as litter material for bedding was found to be better than rice husk with respect to Korean Hanhyup broiler behavior.

Effect of Litter Materials on Broiler Performance and Evaluation of Manureal Value of Used Litter in Late Autumn

  • A total of 168 seven days-old Arbor Acres chicks were reared in late-autumn on 4 types of litters; sawdust, rice husk, sugarcane bagasse or wheat straw up to 49 days of age to compare the growth performance, evaluate the manureal value and Coccidial oocyst population in used litter. Sadust, rice husk, sugarcane bagasse and wheat straw did not differ statistically for live weight, feed consumption, feed conversion ratio and survivability (p>0.05). However, live weight and survivability tended to increase on sawdust. The highest moisture content of used litter was found in sugarcane bagasse followed by sawdust, rice husk and wheat straw (p<0.05). Rice husk contained the highest amount of of nitrogen, phosphurus and potassium followed by sawdust, sugarcane bagasse and wheat straw (p<0.01). Oocyst content of all treatment groups increased suddenly up to 5 weeks of age and thereafter suddenly declined up to 7 weeks of age. Litter materials did not differ at 35 and 42 days of age for oocyst content, but significantly differed at 49 days of age (p<0.01). So, the above findings reveal that sawdust may be suitable litter followed by rice husk, sugarcane bagasse and wheat straw in late-autumn in Bangladesh in respect of broiler growth performance.

THE EFFECT OF DIETARY PROTEIN AND ALUM IN LITTER ON PERFORMANCE, NH3 GAS CONCENTRATION AND LITTER COMPOSITION IN BROILER

  • 본 시험은 broiler performance, litter N농도가 어떻게 유지되며, NH3 gas 농도가 사료에 ammino acid와 Vitamin D를 보충하여 litter에 Alum을 첨가하여 저수준 단백질 수준을 감소시키는지 결정하기 위해 실시하였다. 이 실험은 각각 처리마다 3반복 90마리를 세가지의 다른 단백질 수준을 가지고서 starter period(1-214)와 grower period(22-420)로 나누었다. 단백질처리는 각기 starter에는 평균 23.0(control 71), 20.4(W)와 18.0(73)%로 grower에서는 21.0(control 71), l9.3(n) and 17.o(73)%로 구성된다. control과 비교하면 ammino acid 수준은 비슷하다. Alum은 rice bran kg당 2009에 Control을 제외하고 각 처리구에 혼합했다. 결과는 3wks와 6wks 동안 급여한 사료에서 Control이하인 저수준 단백질은 feed gain은 증가하였으며, feed intake와 weight gain은 감소하였다. 그러나 처리간에는 유의차(P<0.05)가 없었으며 Alum을 litter에 혼합할 때(P<0.05) 저수준 단백질은 NH3 gas농도가 74.8-80.9% 감소되었다. litter에 Alum을 첨가하는 조작은 NH3 gas농도를 감소시킨다는 것을 보여준다.

깔짚 교체 및 재사용 육계농장 분리 대장균의 항생제 내성 양상 (Patterns of antibiotic resistance in Escherichia coli isolated from fresh and recycled poultry litter)

  • The isolation rate of Escherichia (E.) coli in poultry litter was investigated at 44 broiler farms, 20 that used fresh litter and 24 that used recycled litter. The patterns of resistance to antibiotics of the E. coli isolates were compared. In litter sampled before the rearing period, the isolation rate of E. coli was higher at farms that used fresh litter; E. coli was present in the litter in 94.5% (35 out of 37 flocks tested) of the farms that used fresh litter vs. 51.2% (21 out of 41 flocks) of the farms that used recycled litter. The susceptibility of the 93 isolates of E. coli to 13 antibiotics was studied. Before the rearing period, E. coli isolates from the farms that recycled litter showed higher resistance rates than isolates from farms that replaced litter with fresh litter. Comparing the antibiotic resistance patterns of isolates from litter sampled before and at the end of the rearing period, the antibiotic resistance rates at the end of the rearing period increased dramatically compared with rates before the rearing period.

액상 과망간산칼륨 적용시 육계 깔짚의 특성 평가 (Assessing the Impact of Liquid Potassium Permanganate on Litter Quality of Poultry)

  • The effects of liquid potassium permanganate (KMnO4) on the litter quality of poultry were investigated. Two-hundred-forty 0-day-old broiler chickens (Arbor Acres) were randomly assigned to two treatments with four replicated pens of 30 chickens each. Treatment liquid KMnO4 at a rate of 50 g of liquid KMnO4/kg of poultry litter was sprayed onto the litter surface using a small hand pump; others served as a control that was applied without liquid KMnO4 additions. Compared with controls, the treatment liquid KMnO4 showed no differences in pH, total nitrogen and ammonia concentration. It was concluded that liquid KMnO4 did not significantly increase poultry litter quality. Mechanisms relating to increasing litter pH and ammonia using liquid KMnO4 are an oxidant agent (not acid-foaming agents).

가금류 사료에 갈색거저리 분말을 첨가시 가금생산성과 깔짚내 암모니아 발생에 미치는 영향 (Effects of Dietary Mealworm (Tenebrio molitor L.) Powder in Poultry Diets on Poultry Production and Ammonia Emissions in Poultry Litter)

  • This study was conducted to examine the performance of poultry production and ammonia emissions from poultry litter when the mealworm (Tenebrio molitor L.) powder was fed to broilers and ducks. In Experiment 1, a total of 180 1-day-old broilers (Arbor acres) were allocated to two treatments with three replicates in a completely randomized design. In Experiment 2, ducks were used in the same method as in Experiment 1. The dietary treatments were as follows: basal diets as control and basal diets with 1.5% Tenebrio molitor L. powder as T1. In Experiment 1, broiler production was not affected by the addition of mealworm powder (p>0.05). Ammonia from broiler litter was observed significantly different in the two treatments at 4 and 5 weeks (p<0.05); however, in other weeks ammonia measured did not show significance different (p>0.05). In Experiment 2, feeding of mealworm powder had no statistical significance on duck productivity (p>0.05). Ammonia emissions from duck litter were not statistically significant in the two treatments at 2 to 5 weeks (p>0.05); however, there was a difference at 6 weeks (p<0.05). Therefore, the addition of mealworm powder to broiler and duck diets did not only improved weight gain and feed efficiency, but also effectively reduced ammonia in poultry litter.

육계 농장 깔짚에서의 주요 바이러스 병원체 오염 실태 조사 (Monitoring of Major Viral Pathogen Contamination in New and Reused Broiler Farm Litter)

  • 새 깔짚을 사용하는 16개 농가와 깔짚을 교체하지 않는 15개 농가를 대상으로 2009년 7월부터 11월까지 5개월에 걸쳐 농가당 2회 입식 기준으로 병아리 입식 전과 출하 전 깔짚을 수거하여 주요 바이러스 병원체의 오염 실태를 조사하고, 생산성을 분석하였다. 그 결과, 조사 기간 동안 깔짚을 교체해 주는 농가의 75%(12/16농가)에서, 깔짚을 재사용하는 농가의 73%(11/15)에서 37주의 바이러스가 분리되었다. 바이러스분리 시기별로보면병아리 입식 직전계사에서3주, 육계 출하 직전 계사에서 34주가 분리되었다. 깔짚 형태로 보면 새 깔짚을 사용하는 계사에서 17주, 깔짚을 재사용하는 계사에서 20주가 분리되어 계사 내 바이러스 병원체 오염정도는 깔짚 교체여부와 크게 관련성이 없는 것으로 나타났다. 분리된 바이러스 37주는 병원체별로 보면 IBV 14주, IBDV 2주, FAdV 9주 그리고 CIAV 12주였다. 이 중 IBDV 1주와 CIAV 2주는 입식 직전 계사에서 분리되었다. 본 연구에서 조사한 31개 농장 62개 계군의 생산지수를 조사한 결과, 깔짚 교체 농가와 재활용 농가 간 생산성은 유의성이 있는 차이가 나타나지 않았다.
