A Study on Policy for the Introduction of Terrestrial Multi-Channel Service (지상파 다채널 서비스 도입을 위한 정책방안 연구)

  • Since domestic terrestrial DTV transition introduces the need for a multi-channel service as raised again to multi-channel service is being promoted. Current terrestrial broadcasters to realize multi-channel services are provided jointly countermeasures. Multi-channel services also active in policy-making of Korea Communications Commission. Therefore, in this article, terrestrial technical issues that arise in multi-channel services and services for the implementation of policy measures were proposed. Therefore, in this article terrestrial technical issues that arise in multi-channel services and services for the implementation of policy measures by looking at the future terrestrial multi-channel service to pursue the direction and policies of regulatory agencies aims to help.

Measurement and Analysis of Terrestrial DTV Bitstreams in Korea (국내 지상파 DTV 비트스트림 측정 및 분석)

  • It is very important to find errors in broadcasted streams because it can help us to find where errors occur. Broadcasted streams may have errors in the RF(radio frequency) or baseband domain. It is very important to fix these errors because it can help to stabilize set-top boxes, provide stable receiving, and give comfortable environments to watch TV. Since 2001, major terrestrial broadcasters in Korea started the DTV broadcasting in Kwan-Ak over Seoul area. In this paper, we provide some analysis on errors in MPEG-based TS streams, PSIP packets, and RF area which may occur in DTV systems and compare this result with that of USA.

  • The environment of digital broadcast which represents as multi-channel and multimedia provides more crisis and pressure to newspapermen called as an uncrowned monarch in region of the press. The circulation of newspaper is declining dramatically and newspaper companies are turning their attention into digital broadcast in order to survive. Furthermore, besides of Chosun, Jung-Ang and Dong-A which are the three major newspapers in S. Korea, local newspaper companies are suffering from severe financial difficulties. However it could be an opportunity for digital broadcasters who undergo the lack of contents whether they are qualitative or quantitative. For the purpose of this study, it is to present a number of strategic approach in order that local newspapers outlast in the competitive digital broadcasting marketplace. Beyond the localism it intends to discuss about tapping into valuable newspaper contents as on-line journalism.

Implications of Incentive Auction : Focusing on key issues in U.S.

  • The Federal Communications Commission (FCC), which regulates interstate and international communications in the United States, has established a plan to allocate high demand spectrum to the usage of mobile communication by inducing voluntary relinquishment from broadcasters. This plan was introduced by the National Broadband Plan as an incentive auction in 2010. The FCC suggested the Notice of Proposed Rulemaking (NPRM) in 2012 and issued Report and Order (R&O) on May 2014 regarding the overall rules of incentive auctions expected to be implemented in mid-2015. The incentive auction attracts the attention of many countries because this policy suggests a novel approach regarding the alteration of use from an inefficient usage to an efficient usage in limited spectrum resources. In this paper, we define the key issues in order for implementation of incentive auction. Since the incentive auction is a highly complicated process compared to previous allocation procedures, a careful review of the incentive auction regarding whether this spectrum policy can be introduced is required. In this paper, we describe the detailed procedure of the incentive auction and present policy considerations for the introduction of the incentive auction.

Stereoscopic Video Services for Terrestrial DMB (지상파 DMB를 위한 스테레오스코픽 영상 서비스)

  • Recently "DMB Video-Associated Stereoscopic Data Services" standard has been published by TTA. The standard enables DMB broadcasters to provide 3D or stereoscopic interactive data services based on MPEG-4 BIFS (Binary Format for Scenes). The purpose is to entice viewers to utilize DMB interactive data services more often by providing realistic and protrusive image objects overlaid on top of the main video in the background. This paper provides the background, technical analysis, and in-depth considerations for the standard. Also the results of standard verification are provided including the results of interoperability test with the existing terrestrial DMB receivers.

  • One of the most notable changes in entertainment programs has been the gamification since 1991. The comparative analysis of 255 weekend entertainment programs run by terrestrial broadcasters between 1991 and 1998 and between 2008 and 2014 indicates that entertainment programs have emigrated from the variety format to the reality, and that adopted entangled plots than interwoven ones more and more, using mission performances and competition heavily. Further, even within the reality format, different competitive factors and plot composition are adding the diversity in the end results immensely. The interaction among the gamification, plots and competitive factors is quite likely to drive creative changes in the broadcast formats in the years to come.

  • The starting point of this study is an examination of the vital role of terrestrial broadcasting in Korean society, where ethnic minorities have increasingly become visible. Korean terrestrial broadcasters' mandate emphasises the broadcaster's responsibility to represent and reflect the range of public opinion and experiences beyond class, age, ethnicity and ideological orientation. The main purpose of this study is to visually examine the means through which terrestrial broadcasting generates discourses of We-ness and Otherness at times of change in the Korean society. The study focuses on prime-time broadcasting news programmes' visual representations of migrants and ethnic minorities.

  • In this paper, we describe a new 1/4 rate robust modulation techniques for Enhanced-x VSB system which is fully backward compatible with ATSC 8-VSB standard. 1/4 rate mode Enhanced-xVSB system provides broadcasters with a wide choice of trade-offs of data rate vs amount of robustness of enhanced data for pedestrian/mobile services. Lab test results of proposed Enhanced-xVSB 1/4 rate mode robust stream are a significantly improved multipath as well as AWGN reception performance for Enhanced-xVSB receiver. We suggest an Enhanced-xVSB terrestrial broadcasting system for ATSC HDTV and pedestrian/portable TV simultaneous broadcasting service providing.

  • The mobile internet service market is growing very rapidly in Korea. This study outlines the current state of mobile internet services and analyzes the mobile contents types of media companies, especially newspapers, broadcasters and internet portal firms. As a result of this study, media companies provide generally different types of news and information for free and they are eager to develop the new mobile business models to maintain their power in new media. But mobile content distribution is still in the early stages due to the lack of clear business models. To satisfy the consumer's needs and to maintain the competitive advantages, the media companies should develop new business models and cooperate with other market participants to reduce the barriers in the mobile internet service market.

  • Purpose In recent years, "Internet + " is a new social form. Has already brought the vitality of social and economic entities. The rapid development of Internet globalization, promote the development of an emerging network interaction, "Live broadcast". Viewers from all over the world can watch various types of live programs by connecting to the Internet. Viewers and live broadcasters can generate instant and efficient interactions. Design Many companies have taken advantage of the advantages of the live broadcast platform. Use live broadcasts for brand marketing activities. Branding compared to offline, online advertising is cheaper, Spread more quickly, get feedback from consumers more realistic. Merchants are also aware that this type of interaction creates a closer connection between consumers and businesses. This article will deduce a unique research model through lots of prior studies. Establish independent variables from two aspects of live software features and consumer features, and from the seven hypotheses derived, summarize how to make consumers more loyal to the same brand. The audience of Korean and Chinese live broadcast software is also growing. In order compare the differences between the consumer groups in Korea and China, this article uses the same research model, analysis of consumers in Korea and China. Findings Finally based on the results of the study. Proposal for rationalization of companies that use Korean-Chinese live broadcast platforms for brand marketing.
