  • Broadcast-based data dissemination has become a widely accepted approach of communication in the mobile computing environment. However, with a large set of data items, the expected delay of receiving a desired data increases due to the sequential nature of the broadcast channel. This paper explores the issue of designing proper data allocation on multiple broadcast channels to reduce this wait time, and proposes a new data allocation scheme named near optimal data allocation(NODA). The proposed scheme first partitions all data items in K group based on the theoretical lower-bound of the average expected delay to determine data items which each broadcast channel has to broadcast. Then, NODA further partitions each group of data items in B groups using extended dynamic programming algorithm to broadcast data items allocated on the same broadcast channel in different frequencies. The proposed scheme is capable of minimizing the average expected delay time since it can broadcast data items allocated on the same channel reflecting their popularities.

  • In this paper, we introduce a novel virtual studio environment where a broadcaster in the virtual set interacts with tele-viewers as if they are sharing the same environment as participants. A tele-viewer participates physically in the virtual studio environment by a dummy-head equipped with video "eyes" and microphone "ears" physically located in the studio. The dummy head as a surrogate of the tole-viewer follows the tele-viewer's head movements and views and hears through the dummy head like a tele-operated robot. By introducing the tele-presence technology in the virtual studio setting, the broadcaster can not only interact with the virtual set elements like the regular virtual studio environment but also share the physical studio with the surrogates of the tele-viewers as participants. The tele-viewer may see the real broadcaster in the virtual set environment and other participants as avatars in place of their respective dummy heads. With an immersive display like HMD, the tele-viewer may look around the studio and interact with other avatars. The new interactive virtual studio with the immersive viewer environment may be applied to immersive tele-conferencing, tele-teaching, and interactive TV program productions.program productions.

  • In this paper, we first study the spatial multiplexing gain for the 3-cell interfering broadcast channels (IFBC) where all base stations and mobile users are equipped with multiple antennas. Then, we present the IA scheme in conjunction with user selection which outperforms the TDMA technique in the IFBC environment. The optimal scheduling method utilizes multiuser diversity to achieve a significant fraction of sum capacity by using an exhaustive search algorithm. To reduce the computational complexity, a suboptimal scheduling method is proposed based on a coordinate ascent approach.

  • In recent years, Internet Word of Mouth (IWOM) as an important way for internet consumers to obtain product information, it has become a key factor influencing consumers purchase intention. However, does IWOM also affect consumers' willingness to buy in the E-commerce live broadcast environment? What online IWOM can make a difference? And how? This study establishes a theoretical model of the impact of IWOM on consumer purchase intention in Chinese E-commerce live broadcast. Questionnaire data were collected from 204 people through the internet, with the model and the hypotheses are tested by SPSS 21.0 software. The research results show that: Firstly, the influencing factors of IWOM in the E-commerce live broadcast are different from those in general E-commerce. Secondly, anchor traits, word of mouth quantity, and product involvement have a positive impact on consumers purchase intentions, but the strength of relationship, word of mouth quality and Word of mouth timeliness do not have significantly direct effect on consumers' purchase intentions. Finally, conclusion with theoretical references and practical suggestions for E-commerce live broadcast merchants that may enter the Chinese market.

  • A hierarchical identity-based broadcast encryption (H-IBBE) scheme is an identity-based broadcast encryption (IBBE) scheme in a hierarchical environment. In order to obtain secure H-IBBE schemes in the quantum era, we propose an H-IBBE scheme based on the learning with errors problemassumption. Our scheme achieves indistinguishability from random under adaptive chosen-plaintext and chosen-identity attacks in the random oracle model.

  • Broadcast disks are suited for disseminating information to a large number of clients in mobile computing environments. In broadcast disks, the server continuously and repeatedly broadcasts all data items in the database to clients without specific requests. The clients monitor the broadcast channel and retrieve data items as they arrive on the broadcast channel. The broadcast channel then becomes a disk from which clients can retrieve data items. This paper proposes a Timestamp based Concurrency Control (TCC) scheme to preserve the consistency of read-only client transactions, when the values of broadcast data items are updated at the server. Previous schemes tried to reduce transaction aborts by consuming considerable amount of downlink communication from the server to clients for transferring control information. On the other hand, the TCC uses a timestamp field of each data item to describe execution order of server transactions. Clients can allow more transaction executions by checking consistency of their read-only transactions with timestamps of data items. As a result, the TCC can reduce the abort ratio of client transactions with minimal control information to be broadcast from the server.

  • We are witnessing rapid increase of the number of wireless devices available today such as cell phones, PDAs, Wibro enabled devices. Because of the inherent limitation of the bandwidth available for wireless channels, broadcast systems have attracted the attention of the research community. The main problem in this area is to develop an efficient broadcast program. In this paper, we propose a dynamic broadcast method that overcomes the limitations of static broadcast programs. It optimizes the scheduling based on the probabilistic model of user requests. We show that dynamic broadcast system can indeed improve the quality of service using user requests. This paper extends our previous work in [1] to include more thorough explanation of the proposed methodology and diverse performance evaluation models.

  • A field study was conducted over a 3-year period from 2014 to 2016 in the central plain area, Suwon, Korea, 1) to compare the biomass production between machine-transplanted and water-broadcast seeded silage rice and 2) to elucidate the growth factors that affect the difference in biomass production between the two cultivation practices. The heading date for the water-broadcast seeded silage rice was September 11-18, which was delayed by 11-17 days when compared to that for the machine-transplanted silage rice. On average, water-broadcast seeded silage rice had a shorter plant height, more panicles per area, and a greater biomass production because of the increased straw dry weight. However, the difference in dry weight of each plant organ between the two cultivation practices exhibited yearly variation. When the data were pooled across experimental years, cultivation practices, and varieties, biomass production was highly positively correlated with straw dry weight but not with panicle dry weight. When the ratio of water-broadcast seeding to machine-transplanting was analyzed, total dry weight and straw dry weight were positively associated with each other, whereas no relationship was found between total dry weight and panicle dry weight. Despite that water-broadcast seeded silage rice produced more panicles per area than machine-transplanted silage rice, the two cultivation practices had a similar dry weight per culm. Therefore, we conclude that the silage rice from the water-broadcast seeding, compared to the machine-transplanting, produced more biomass because of the combination of the increased panicle number per area and a similar dry weight per culm. These results suggest that silage rice could be produced through water-broadcast seeding to increase biomass production with low labor and cost input.

  • Recently, autonomous robots which can achieve the complex tasks have been required with the advance of robotics. Advanced robot vision for recognition is necessary for the realization of such robots. In this paper, we propose a method to recognize an object in the actual environment. We assume that a 3D-object model used in our proposal method is the voxel data. Its inside is full up and its surface has color information. We also define the word "recognition" as the estimation of a target object's condition. This condition means the posture and the position of a target object in the actual environment. The proposal method consists of three steps. In Step 1, we extract features from the 3D-object model. In Step 2, we estimate the position of the target object. At last, we estimate the posture of the target object in Step 3. And we experiment in the actual environment. We also confirm the performance of our proposal method from results.
