  • A new pathlength deviation detection technique which is composed of michelson interferometer is described and verified experimentally. The technique uses a sub-threshold biased visible laser diode of 20$\mu$m coherence length as a low-coherent light source. And for zeroth-order fringe(which is the largest among fringes) identification we used a piezoelectric transducer with a large modulation smplitude, which enables without the need of constant velocity scanning, to distinguish reflection surfaces separated by more than 10$\mu$m with a resolution of less than half-wavelength.

  • Leak noise is a good source to identify the exact location of a leak point of underground water pipelines. Water leak generates broadband noise from a leak location and can be propagated to both directions of water pipes. This sound propagation due to leak in water pipelines is not a non-dispersive wave any more because of the surrounding pipes and soil. However, the necessity of long-range detection of this leak location makes to identify low-frequency acoustic waves rather than high frequency ones. Acoustic wave propagation coupled with surrounding boundaries including cast iron pipes is theoretically analyzed and the wave velocity was confirmed with experiment. The leak locations were identified both by the acoustic emission (AE) method and the cross-correlation method. In a short-range distance, both the AE method and cross-correlation method are effective to detect leak position. However, the detection for a long-range distance required a lower frequency range accelerometers only because higher frequency waves were attenuated very quickly with the increase of propagation paths. Two algorithms for the cross-correlation function were suggested, and a long-range detection has been achieved at real underground water pipelines longer than 300m.

  • Various array processing techniques to identify the noise source position or bearing have been developed. Typical array processing techniques which are based on time delay between received signals at two sensors, are classified as conventional beamforming, correlation function and NAH (Near-Field Acoustic Holography) techniques which have their own characteristics with respect to application field and signal processing method. In this study, correlation function technique which could be applied for broadband noise source detection, is adopted and the effective detection technique is proposed considering the effects of source bandwidth and measurement noise correlation of noise sources. The validity of the Proposed technique is evaluated using the 3-dimensional nonlinear any which does not give 3-dimensional Position or bearing ambiguity

  • In a passive sonar, the improvement of detection performance by using noise cancellation is usually a important problem. In this paper, we have analyzed the own-ship noise cancellation in the two operation modes which are used in the HMS system. In the operator mode, an adaptive line enhancer(ALE) is applied to improve the tonal detection by using broadband noise cancellation and the normalized least mean square(NLMS) algorithm is applied to the design of an adaptive filter. The reference input that is correlated with a primary input can be used to remove the noise incident on the observation directionin the automatic mode. Computer simulations with real sea that data show that the proposed adaptive noise canceller has good performance in passive detection under HMS operation.

  • BcN(Broadband convergence Network) is being developed in order to support a variety of network applications, with enhanced capabilities of QoS(Quality of Service) provisioning and security, and IPv6. In a high-speed network environment such as BcN, it if more likely for the network resources to be exposed to various intrusion activities. The propagation speed of intrusion is alto expected to be much faster than in the existing Internet In this paper, we present a multi-domain security management framework which my be used for a global intrusion detection at multiple domains of BcN and describe its characteristics. For the performance evaluation, we first present test results for the security node and compare with other products. Then we design and Implement an OPNET simulator for the proposed framework, and present some simulation results. In the simulation model, we focus on the performance of alert information in the security overlay network.

  • In environment of torpedo firing, underwater acoustic signal is generated by target and noise. Sound wave which is generated from acoustic signal is propagated by seawater and it is received through the sonar(sound navigation and ranging) system mounted on torpedo. In the ocean, acoustic signal or sound wave from target that is generated by the spread of broadband can be attenuated by ambient noise and can be lost by medium and environment. This research is designed to support teamwork training in Naval operations by constructing a simulation system that is more similar to the real-world conditions. This paper attempts to research the modeling of target detection and to develop the simulation of torpedo sonar(TOSO). In order to develop the realistic simulation, we researched the broadband sound modeling of target and noise source, the modeling of acoustic transmission loss by chemical component of seawater, and the modeling of signal attenuation by ambient noise environment which is approximated by experimental measurements in seawater surrounding the Korea Peninsular and by experience of Navy's actual torpedo firing. This research contributed to constructing more practical simulation of torpedo firing in real time and the results of this research were used to develop a teamwork training system for the Navy and their education.

  • At the first time in South Korea, the state of the art acoustic systems were mounted on the R/V Tamgu 21. The acoustic systems are an EK80 broadband echosounder (18, 38, 70, 120, 200 and 333 kHz) which has two beam modes such as continuous wave (narrowband) and frequency modulation (broadband), an ME70 multibeam echosounder (70-120 kHz), and a SH90 sonar (111.5-115.5 kHz). Acoustic data from broadband mode have a very short range resolution, a large detection range, a high signal to noise ratio, and a wide and consecutive frequency response. In ME70, each individual beam consisted in a multibeam plays a role as a spilt beam. The first trial of the cutting edge acoustic system installed on the R/V Tamgu 21 was conducted from 15 Feb to 29 Feb 2016 in East Sea, South Sea and East China Sea. The properties of the acoustic systems were elucidated and exploratory results from three systems were exhibited. Lastly, issues which should be considered and future research plan are mentioned.

  • Due to explosive increase of internet usage, broadband data transmission using optical fibers is broadly used. In order to decrease distortion during long distance transmission, the optical signal need to be restored, typically, by converting the optical signal into the electrical signal. The optical signal is converted into the electrical signal using a photo-diode, and then a clock-and-recovery (CDR) circuit is used to recover the clock and retime the data. In this study, a clock-and-data recovery circuit has been designed using a standard 1.8 V $0.18\;{\mu}m$ CMOS process. With this CDR circuit, the improved phase detector and charge pump have been utilized. Also, by using a ring oscillator, the CDR circuit can recover clock and data from broadband multi-rate data ranging between 750 Mb/s and 2.85 Gb/s.
