  • In Korea, we witness vivid evidences of changing trend in communication that insist the emergence of new networking architecture. To accommodate the changing trend and to hold current strong position in global IT industry, Korea have launched broadband convergence network (BcN) initiative. BcN vision for Korea is to be the first in the world to realize converged network infrastructure and ubiquitous service environment. In this paper, we have introduced the concept and the vision of BcN with a viewpoint of a new paradigm to prepare future-proof communication environment. And then, we have disclosed BcN research and development (R&D) activities including R&D philosophy, R&D phases, and key technologies required. Also, we have discussed current development issues in three technology branches including service and control technology, unified transport technology, and next-generation access technology.

  • Since the guaranteed service quality(QoS) is spotlighted as a strategic competitive tool to Broadband Convergence Network(BcN) service providers, many scholars have dealt with QoS issues in the BcN environment. However, just a few researchers focus on end-users and most are lean toward service providers or technology itself. In this paper, therefore, we investigated how end-users could measure service quality in the BcN environment, and moreover, proposed the end-user oriented measurement guideline for BcN QoS. Through literature review and two surveys, four QoS dimensions and nineteen measurement items were derived from end-user's perspective. proposed QoS dimension and items would be utilized as meaningful tools for future BcN service.

  • For the efficient business, the telecommunication providers should have an attention for the minimization of the basic setup cost to implement the network infrastructure. Furthermore, the provision of the quality of service (QoS) to the service users is crucial for the service providers and vendors. In this paper, we propose the new algorithm to provide the user's QoS under the various traffic in the broadband convergence network. Using the NS-2 network simulator, we evaluate the QoS for the proposed algorithm, and compare those with the results of the previous differentiated service network.

  • This paper briefly reviews ITU-T recommendations associated with multi protocol label switch (MPLS) and Ethernet operation, administration, and maintenance (OAM). The broadband convergence network (BcN) architecture with a centralized network controller is introduced. An aggregation structure employing Ethernet, MPLS, and time division multiplexing (TDM) signal is presented for the BcN. A physical link failure scenario is examined to investigate how the maintenance signal is propagated between different layers.

  • In broadband convergence network(BcN), heterogeneous broadband wired & wireless subnetworks and various terminal equipments will be interconnected. In order to provide end-to-end realtime multimedia services on such heterogeneous networking environment, as a result, two major problems should be resolved: i) Multimedia session establishment & negotiation that adjusts the differences in the capability of multimedia data processing at the end terminal nodes, ii) quality of service(QoS)-guaranteed connection establishment or resource reservation with connection admission control(CAC) in each heterogeneous subnetworks along the path. The session layer signaling(e.g., SIP/SDP) should be extended for QoS negotiation, and must be tightly cooperating with network layer signaling or resource reservation with CAC function. In this paper we propose a session and connection management architecture for the QoS-guaranteed realtime multimedia service provisioning on BcN, with Q-SIP/SDP, resource reservation protocol with traffic engineering extension, and CAC functions. The detailed interaction scenario and related algorithms for QoS-guaranteed realtime multimedia session, resource reservation and connection establishment are explained and analyzed. From the experimental implementation of the proposed scheme on a small scale BcN testbed, we verified that the proposed architecture is applicable for the realtime multimedia service provisioning. We analyze the network performance and QoS parameters in detail.

  • A subscriber-oriented service became necessary for the QoS management due to the development of network. BcN(Broadband convergence Network) which incorporates communication, broadcasting and internet not only improves the quality of the communication and broadcasting service but also. aims at broadband service. Therefore, QoS management for each subscriber becomes more important. Not yet, however, the discussion for the subscriber oriented QoS management is not activated. Although, there are several techniques for subscriber distinction using flow information, IP information or MAC information, but they are only processed in layer 3 network. Actually, it is impossible to manage QoS of all subscriber's in layer 3 network. In this paper, we propose a method for QoS management scheme that does not need additional processes or large hardware in layer 2 network and analyze efficiency and overheads. We propose the first subscriber-oriented service method in layer 2 network that is applicable to either existing network or BcN.

이러한 개념은 망의 통합을 목적으로 하는 BcN(Broadband Convergence Network, 이하 BcN)로 진화하고 있다. 논문에서는 NGcS 구축을 위해 지능망 서비스와 연계하여 접근을 할 것이며, INAP(Intelligent Network Application Protocol), WIN(Wireless Intelligent Network) 및 CAP(CAMEL Application Part) 등의 제어방식에 근거한다. 이러한 방식들에 대한 연동에 대해 논하며, NGcS 구축을 위한 Service Switching Function 설계 방법과 서비스를 트리거(Trigger)하기 위한 방법에 대해 논한다.

  • The aspect of future warfare is NCW(Network Centric Warfare) in accordance with the IT development, so MND have the planning of M-BcN(Military Broadband convergence Network) establishment as the basic system of NCW by the end of 2008. IPv6 address must be managed systematically as a essential element of NCW. In the previous study, it is designed on the basis of the present military information communication network topology. However, it makes some problems. First, it is difficult for present topology to adapt the future M-BcN which is different from the present military network topology. Second, it has defects of inefficiency of route aggregation and enlargement of routing table size. In this paper, we improved the route aggregation and routing table size by assigning the hierarchical address on the basis of M-BcN topology and adjusting the position of field identifying service network. Furthermore, it is proved by the network simulation program(OPNET 12.0).
