Simple LED driver with Constant Current Control

  • In this paper, simple LED driver is proposed. The proposed driver has simple construction having series capacitor, bridge rectifier, and adjustable regulator IC. Constant current control is possible with the use of TL431Z. The proposed in this paper, current is greater than the rating of the load, the current controller device measures the increased current in the circuit, and turned-on so that the current will be shared. Thus current control device makes the circuit more reliable, longevity as well as increase the luminous efficacy of the LED light. The simulation and experimental results are presented to show the validity of the proposed circuits.

  • This paper is to describe how to apply the Phase-shifted Full Bridge 100kHz high frequency soft-switching PWM method to 48[V], 200[A] DC/DC converter. The soft-switching is achieved from light load to full load by using phase-shifted zero voltage switching method with additional capacitors besides the MOSPET's of the right leg even though the leakage inductance of high frequency transformer is designed small. This method can reduce the switching tosses, EMI problems, and increase the effective duty. Also, this paper includes the simulation, analysis, and experiment results of the DC/DC converter unit.

The optimal design of electronic ballasts for triple-type compact fluorescent lamps considering variation of ambient temperatures (주위온도를 고려한 트리플형 콤팩트 형광램프용 전자식 안정기의 최적 설계)

  • This paper investigates the optimal design of an electronic ballast of half bridge inverter type in consideration of the variation of ambient temperatures for a 15[W] triple-type compact fluorescent lamp. The performances of electronic ballasts under different values or the capacitance ratio in the resonant tank circuit are compared with each other in the practical temperature range between 15[$^{\circ}C$] and 35[$^{\circ}C$] to determine its optimum value. As a result, the optimum value is found to be such that $C_1/C_2=10$ at which value starting of the lamp is most stable and light output reaches its maximum value with lowest variation.

  • As the Three-level ZVS PWM DC-DC converter operates likewise full-bridge ZVS PWM DC-DC converter and the blocking voltage of each switching device is a half of the DC-link voltage, it is suitable for the high imput voltage applications. However, it has some problems as follows; The blocking voltage of each devices is unbalanced and it causes the power losses of the inner switching devices to be increased. Also, it has narrow load range so that the switching losses and the efficiency are reduced as it goes to the light load. This paper presents an nove Three-level ZVS PWM DC-DC converter, which can reduce the overvoltage of the outer switches, eliminate the unbalance of the voltage sharing between the switches at turn-off due to the stray inductances, and operate from no load to full load. The characteristics and the performances of the proposed Three-level ZVS PWM DC-DC converter are verified by simulation and experimental results

  • Recent days composite bridge deck is gaining attraction due to many advantages such as light weight, high strength, corrosion resistance, and high durability. In this study, composite sandwich deck models of hat, box, and triangular section type were fabricated by VARTM process. For those models, three point flexural test was carried out both in strong and weak axis. The experimental results are compared with each other to determine efficient section type. Also finite element analysis was performed to verify analysis model. It is demonstrated that the results of numerical analysis agree well with experimental results.

  • This paper reviews the main drivers forcing change and progress in powertrains for passenger cars in the coming years. The environmental drivers of omissions and CO2 will force better technical performance, but customer demand for increased choice will force change in the basic engine design and provide opportunities for alternate configurations of powertrain. Gasoline engines will embody refinements of valve train actuations as well as developments in combustion, especially direct injection and possibly a lean booated form of direct injection. Nevertheless, the conventional, port injected engine will continue to be the dominant engine for some years to come. The high speed direct injection diesel will very soon supplant its indirect injection predecessor completely. It will take an increasing share of the total powertrain market as improved specific power and refinement make it even more attractive to the customer. Car manufacturers will provide diesel models to satisfy this customer demand as well as using the efficiency of the diesel to enable them to meet their fleet CO2 commitments. Both gasoline and diesel engines will see an increasing degree of electrification and partial hybridisation as efficient flywheel mounted electrical devices become available.

  • The voided slab have many advantages, light weight, high load-distribution capacity, low cost and beautiful appearance, etc. But they have also many cracks due to difficulties in designs and construction, analysis, shrinkage, installation and rising force of voided tube. This paper presents the retrofit effects with steel plate(SP)/carbon fiber sheet(CFS) of RC voided slab. As a results of this study, it proved that the strip pattern has to be profitable than full-face pattern in performance such as crack, ultimate loads, stiffness. Retrofit length has many influence on retrofit effects, as the length increases, performance and stability of end blocks higher. Also, it proved that the retrofit on full-section has to be profitable than voided-section in performance, and the overlay length of CFS is desirable to extent approximately and welding(V-cut) has to be efficient than anchors in SP connection. But the kinds of end block and anchor has not influence on retrofit effects.

  • Energy scavenging is a technique that converts ambient energy, for example, vibration and light, to electrical energy in order to supply power to low power electronic devices such as ubiquitous sensors. In this paper, we propose an optimal operation condition of power delivery circuit and design strategy for energy scavenging system in which the generated power is order of microwatt and, consequently, efficient handling of power is critical. We also propose that high data transmission rate is more realistic optimal design objective rather than high energy efficiency. It is shown that disconnection of load from the storage capacitor right after data transmission reduces energy wasting and that optimal value of storage capacitor can be determined at this condition. The feasibility of our propose is proved by experiments and we believe that the proposed design strategy will promote the application of piezoelectric micropower generator to the ubiquitous sensor networks.

  • In this study, I-type girders used as main members of a two span continuous steel bridge, are optimally designed by a Load and Resistance Factor Design method(LRFD) using an numerical optimization method. The width, height web thickness and flange thickness of the main girder are set as design variables, and light weight design is attempted by choosing the cross-sectional area as an object function. The main program is coded with C++ and connected with optimization modul ADS, which is coded with FORTRAN. The results of the program show that the stress constraints of noncomposite section during the initial construction stage become active in the positive moment area and the service limit state constaints become active in the negative moment area.

  • A comprehensive review for the selection of urban rail vehicle systems that best suit Gimpo railway line is taking place with consideration of the project area characteristics in light of line planning, passenger demand, supply of rolling stock, and railway construction and operation. Various aspects of vehicle systems including passenger demand on concerned lines, regional characteristics, vehicle types, and railway construction and operational settings should be taken into consideration. In addition, request for the introduction of customized vehicle systems reflecting the convenience of transit users such as wide and hospitable inner space, low noise, flexible operation of 2 to 4 car train-set and eye catching slim bridge piers is increasing. A study on alternatives to place an order to opt for optimum rolling stock systems considering line characteristics of Gimpo City's urban railway and future passenger demand while meeting the needs of Gimpo City has been conducted.
