Investigation on the lasing characteristics of an $Ar^+$ laser-pumped Nd:glass laser ($Ar^+$ 레이저로 펌핑되는 Nd:glass 레이저의 발진특성)

  • The lasing characteristics of a Nd:phosphate glass laser pumped by 514 nm of an $Ar^{+}$ laser has been investigated. The oscillator consists of a Nd:glass gain medium set at Brewster angle, and two concave mirrors, and a flat mirror with a reflectance of 98%. The $Ar^{+}$ laser pumping beam is focused longitudinally at the beam waist of laser mode for efficient pumping. The pumping beam is chopped at 100 Hz to reduce the heat loading to prevent the thermal damage of the gain medium by the latent heat from the absorbed pumping beam. The maximum laser output power of 70 mW at 1.5 W pumping and the threshold input power of 520 mW have been obtained.

  • It is well known that the state of existence of molecules on the surface of water changes during compression of the molecules. Electric methods, such as measurement of the surface potential or displacement current are also useful for investigating dynamic changes of molecular state on the water surface during compression and Transformation of molecular film occurs only usually in air-water interface, 2 dimensions domain's growth and crash are achieved. Organic thin film that consist of growth of domain can understand correct special quality of accumulation film supplying information about fine structure and properties of matter of device observing information and so on that is surface forward player and optic enemy using AFM one of SPM application by nano electronics. In this paper Langmuir (L) that is one of basis technology to manufacture of organic matter device using biology material PBDG that is kind of polypeptide that have biology adaptedness. The Experiment method used ${\pi}-A$ isotherm and BAM(Brewster Angle Microscopy), using the BAM, we can to the molecular orientation of monolayer on the water surface and directly see the morphology of the films on water subphase as well as that of the films.

  • Intracavity frequency doubling of a single-mode Nd:YAG laser by using a nonplanar ring cavity is demonstrated. The nonplanar ring cavity consists of a Brewster-angled Nd:YAG crystal placed in a magnetic field, a KTP crystal, and two spherical mirrors. In this design the Nd:YAG block acts as both a nonreciprocal polarization rotator and a partial polarizer, and the nonplanar portion of the ring cavity, which is formed by a relative twist angle between the Brewster-angled end surfaces of the Nd:YAG block, serves as a reciprocal polarization rotator. An eigenpolarization theory for the cavity configuration is presented and suitable values of the relative twist angle for unidirectional operation are estimated. A single-mode output power of 22 ㎽ at 532 nm and an optical to optical conversion efficiency of 1.8% are obtained with a 1.2 W diode laser at 809 nm.

  • 1946년 S M MacNeille에 의해 연구된 유전체 다층 박막을 이용한 편광광속분리기는 브르스터 각 편광광속분리기(Brewster angle polarizing beam splitter) 혹은 맥닐 프리즘(MacNeille prism)으로 알려져 있으며 지금도 많은 광학계에서 사용되고 있다. 맥닐 프리즘은 두 개의 프리즘 사이의 빗면에 높은 굴절률( $n_{H}$ )을 갖는 물질과 낮은 굴절률( $n_{L}$ )을 갖는 물질을 λ/4 광학두께로 교번으로 한 고반사 다층박막 구조를 갖는다. 각 층의 경계면에서 브르스터 각으로 입사할 경우 p-편광파는 투과하고 s-편광파는 부분적으로 반사한다. 편광광속분리 정도는 p-편광파와 s-편광파의 투과율( $T_{p}$, $T_{s}$ ) 혹은 반사율( $R_{p}$, $R_{s}$ )의 비로 나타내며 이를 소광비(extinction ratio)라 한다.   • The texture change of non-linear optical molecules at the air/water interface was investigated as a function of surface pressure with Brewster angle microscopy. The texture change resulted from the aggregation of dye molecules is important to understand the film uniformity and grain formation process. The 4-Octadecylhydroxy-4'-nitrostilbene (OHNS) generated the small spots of size around 1$\mu$m. The spots exhibit high contrast with other film area and do not show angle dependent reflectivity change. It is interesting to observe that the size of the domain stays the same as the film pressure increases. At high surface pressure, the contrast ratio of domains becomes high, which means dense packing of OHNS. And, the size of domain grows. In the middle of domain, highly contrasted domains are formed. The first and the second order transitions of OHNS observed from surface pressure-area isotherm result from the two types of grains. The N,N-Dihexadecylcyanoaniline (DHCA) formed highly contrasted gains over entire region, and the grains are the double layers. The difference in Langmuir film of OHNS and DHCA at the air/water interface is consistent with the small tilt angle from the surface normal for OHNS and the large tilt angle for DHCA in the Langmuir-Blodgett films.

  • Crosslinked LB films of p-HP (p-hexadecoxyphenol) were produced to insulation layers of electronic devices. The fabrication and the electrical properties of LB films according to crosslinking have investigated respectively to Brewster angle microscopy (BAM), Scanning Maxwell-stress microscopy (SMM), current-voltage (I-V) properties and frequency-capacitance (C-F) characteristics. According to crosslinking, conductivity of p-HP LB films have improved and relative dielectric constant have reduced.

  • We fabricated an IMI-O polymer containing an imidazole group that could form a complex structure between the monolayer and the metal ions at the air-water interface. Also. the monolayer behavior at the air-water interface and the surface morphology of metal-complexed Langmuir-Blodgett(LB) films were investigated by using Brewster angle microscopy(BAM) and Scanning Maxwell-stress Microscopy(SMM). The difference in the BAM and SMM images between the pure water and the aqueous metal ions is attributed to the interactions of the copolymers with the metal ions at the interface and the consequent change of the monolayer organization.

  • This paper discusses the rheology of complex interfaces comprised of amphiphilic materials that are susceptible to flow-induced orientation and deformation. The consequence of the coupling of the film micro-structure to flow leads to nonlinear rheology and surface fluid dynamics. Experimental methods designed to determine the mechanical rheological material functions of fluid-fluid interfaces as well as local, molecular and morphological responses are presented. These include a newly developed interfacial stress rheometer, flow ultraviolet dichroism, and Brewster-angle microscopy. These techniques are applied to a number of complex interfaces ranging from low molecular weight amphiphiles to polymer monolayers. Nonlinear flow phenomena ranging from two-dimensional nematic responses to highly elastic surface flows that manifest surface normal stress differences and elongational viscosities are described.

  • Brewster angle microscopy(BAM) makes it possible to measure domains of Langmuir films. Especially, formation and phase transition of the PAAS Langmuir monolayers from a gas phase to a solid phase at the air-water interface were observed by the use of BAM. And also we observed the comparative images of films deposited at each phase. The UV/visible absorption spectra of this films showed molecular intensity and aggregation at each state. The electrical properties of this material were measured by current-voltage(I-V) characteristics.

  • The optical and the electrical properties of octadecylviologen-(TCNQ$\^$-/)$_2$LB(Langmuir-Blodgett) films have been studied. The films were made at 25mN/m with Y-type formation using kuhn type apparatus. According to a study of UV/visible absorption spectra, DS C, ESR, and I-V characteristics depending on temperatures, there is an internal change in OV-(TCNQ$\^$-/)$_2$ LB films near 350K. We have observed a status of Langmuir films using Brewster angle microscope at room temperature.
