  • It is well known that the state of existence of molecules on the surface of water changes during compression of the molecules. Electric methods, such as measurement of the surface potential or displacement current are also useful for investigating dynamic changes of molecular state on the water surface during compression. In this paper, We studied on the Bio thin film by Langmuir-Biodgett(LB) method. The Experiment method used displacement current, $\pi-A$ isotherm and BAM (Brewster Angle Microscopy). using the BAM, we can to the molecular orientation of monolayer on the water surface and directly see the morphology of the films on water subphase as well as that of the films.

  • We used Brewster's Law to examine the mechanism of liquid crystal (LC) alignment on an organic insulation layer when subjected to ion-beam irradiation. Brewster's Law implies that the maximum rate polarized ray on a slanted insulation layers on the substrate and it illustrates the dependence of polarization and themechanical structure on the ion beam irradiation process. The pretilt angle of nematic LCs on the organic insulation surface was about $1.13^{\circ}$ for an ion beam exposure of $45^{\circ}$ for 1 minute at 1800eV. This shows the dependence of LC alignment on the polarization ratio in a slanted organic insulation layer.

  • The Langmuir monolayers of polyamic acid salts with three kinds of alkyl chains have been investigated by means of conventional $\pi$-A isotherms and second harmonic generation measurements proposed in this paper. The surface molecular density dependence of second harmonic intensity clearly shows the region of aggregation while corresponding $\pi$-A isotherm doesn't show any changes in the surface morphology at the same region. The surface morphology analysis based on the second harmonic measurement was consistent with the Brewster angle microscope measurement results.

  • The characteristics of the optical fiber polarizer have been analyzed theoretically by using the Fresnel equations and compared with the results computed by the Yeh's electromagnetic theory. we found that they agreed reasonably well each other for the optical fiber polarizer of our interest.

  • We fabricated IMI-O polymer containing imidazole group that can be form a complex structure between the monolayer and the metal ions at the air-water interface. Also, the monolayer behavior at the air-water interface and Langmuir-Blodget films by complexes formation have been investigated by $\pi$-A isotherms, Brewster Angle Microscopy and the scanning Maxwell-stress microscopy.

  • We measured refractive indices and thicknesses of SiO$_2$ thin films that have been plated on LCD glass substrate for the purpose of preventing the out-diffusion of sodium ions. The best experimental condition to determine refractive index and thickness of SiO$_2$ thin film by using ellipsometry is searched for, where ⅰ) the film thickness is increased uniformly by 20 $\AA$ from 0 $\AA$ to the period thickness while the angle of incidence is fixed and ⅱ) the angle of incidence is increased uniformly by 1$^{\circ}$ from 45$^{\circ}$ to 70$^{\circ}$ while the film thickness is fixed. We estimated the errors in determining the refractive index and thickness by comparing the measurement error of $\Delta$ and Ψ with the calculated one. The ellipsometric constants of SiO$_2$ thin film on LCD glass substrate are measured at several angle of incidence around the Brewster angle, which is the best angle if the experimental error of ellipsometer is not sensitive to the incident angle. Also the best fit refractive index and thickness of SiO$_2$ thin film to these ellipsometric constants measured at several angle of incidenc eas well as the best fit ones to the SE data are obtained using regressional analysis.

  • When a Gaussian beam is incident to a planar dielectric interface at an angle other than Brewster angle or the critical angle of total reflection, we derive the six nonspecular effects of rotation, lateral shift, focal shift, Rayleigh length change, magnitude and phase changes in the complex amplitude of the reflected beam simultaneously by taking account of the boundary condition. In the derivation we assume a Gaussian beam of fundamental mode to emerge from the interface and then match at the interface the constant, linear, and quadratic variations of the amplitude and phase of the reflected beam with those of the incident beam multiplied by the reflection coefficient. Our calculation shows that the six nonspecular effects can result from a linear variation of the natural logarithm of the reflection coefficient at the interface.
