  • This study examines the effects of self-presentation and aesthetics on purchase intentions toward a brand-new smartphone through a research model that accounts for these intentions in a more comprehensive manner than traditional ICT frameworks. The constructs were selected based on the three-level processing theory: aesthetics at the visceral level, perceived usefulness and playfulness at the behavioural level, and self-presentation at the reflective level. The hypotheses were developed from self-presentation theory and the attractiveness stereotype which is one of theories in human-computer interactions (HCI). For the validation of hypotheses, the research model was empirically tested for the purchase intention of Apple's iPhone5 by university students in Korea.

  • In digital marketing, the strategic use of emojis in social media advertising, particularly on the Xiaohongshu app, significantly influences consumer acceptance and purchase behavior. This study examines the impact of emoji-laden advertisements and the role of brand metaphorical warmth on consumer perceptions. Employing a tailored questionnaire, the research explores how emojis affect brand advertisement reception, filling a gap in empirical research on emoji advertising effectiveness. Findings indicate that emojis, when used judiciously, enhance consumer acceptance and contribute to a positive brand perception. However, excessive use may undermine trust. Brand metaphorical warmth emerges as a crucial factor, suggesting that emojis can effectively convey warmth, fostering a deeper emotional connection with consumers. These insights offer practical implications for refining social media marketing strategies, advocating for a balanced approach to emoji usage in advertisements to optimize engagement and influence consumer behavior.

  • As femvertising has raised a great deal of attentions in Korea and abroad, femvertising which focuses on women's equality and empowerment has also brought much pubic attentions. Despite of much attentions, research on femvertising has been scarce. Thus, this study is designed to examine antecedents and consequences of attitude toward femvertising. For antecedents, this study proposes perceived congruence and perceived authenticity; as consequences, it proposes attitude toward brand, purchase intention, and e-word-of-mouth intention. A total of 278 college students participated in the study in return for course credits. Study results suggest that both perceived congruence and perceived authenticity are positively related to attitude toward advertising. In sum, when consumers perceive that femvertising messages are congruent with the company's brand image and the ad messages are authentic, positive attitude toward ads is likely to increase. Findings also suggest that attitude toward femvertising is positively related to attitude toward brand, purchase intention, and e-word-of-mouth-intention. In the last section of this paper, we discuss theoretical and practical implications..

  • The main purpose of this study was to determine the influence of brand and country-of-origin on consumers' perception of apparel products. $2\times2$ between subjects factorial design with brand (no brand vs. prestigious brand) and country-of-origin (Italy vs. Korea) was used. Consumer ethnocentrism and product involvement were included as covariates in analyzing the data. The stimuus was a double-breasted v-neckline beige jacket. All the labels were removed and a label indicating one of the four brand/country-of-origin conditions was attached. The participants' perception of the jacket was measured in terms of product attitude, product evaluation, purchase intention and expected price. A total of 205 housewives participated in the field experiments conducted in front of four moi or department stores in Seoul, and 202 responses were used in the final analysis. There was no significant difference in product attitude, product evaluation and purchase intention according to brand or country-of-origin. But brand, country-of-origin and the interaction between the variables were significant in explaining the differences in expected price. Consumer ethnocentrism was significant in all the models, while product involvement was significant only in the case of product evaluation. The relationships among demographic variables, consumer ethnocentrism and product involvement were also examined.
