A Study on the Characteristics of the Manufacturing Method of Handbags by Brand

  • Handbags are a part of fashion and while their significance and value are increasing, research on this topic is lacking. This study defines handbags and categorizes the materials used for making handbags, sewing methods, expression techniques, and terminologies related to accessories. A total of 1,743 handbags that were released from the Spring 2020 to Fall 2023, Ready-to-Wear collections by 8 selected brands (Hermes, Dior, Fendi, Chanel, Louis Vuitton, Prada, Gucci, and Alexander McQueen), were analyzed. Out of these, 732 unique designs, excluding those with only color variations, were studied. The most common sewing methods were 'Cut, sewing, and edge painting', 'Cylinder arm sewing', 'Cut, edge painting, and sewing', and 'Inverted seam', in that order. Slim strap designs primarily used the 'Cut, sewing, and edge painting' method, whereas the body, especially with narrow and hard leather, was best suited for the 'Cylinder arm sewing machine'. For expression techniques, the most frequently used methods were 'Quilting', 'Metal Eyelet', 'Embossing', 'Printing', 'Punching', and 'Weaving', respectively. The characteristics of each brand's production methods, expression techniques, and accessories were as follows: First, the exposure of logos and monograms is prominent. Unlike clothing, handbags often prominently feature the brand's logo or monogram. Second, signature quilting is a prominent feature. Quilting effectively conveys the brand's signature style, providing cushioning, volume, and pattern effects. Third, sustainable development is a growing trend. Brands are increasingly applying eco-friendly and socially responsible designs.

티셔츠에 표현된 팝아트 디자인 연구 (A Study on the Design of Pop Art Applied to T-Shirt)

  • This study intends to analyze T-shirt designs, particularly in connection with pop art. 444 pieces of T-shirts which conveyed the pop art spirits of well-known designers were selected for five years from 2001 to 2005, through fashion magazines(Collection: Dong-ah TV, Collezioni: Italy). The findings are as follows. As for formative characteristics of pop art in T-shirts, previous studies were analyzed to set classifications criteria such as popularization of images, eroticism, lettering and graffiti, assemblage. The design factor of the image popularization includes everyday images, cartoon, celebrities, and caricature. Everyday images ranked first followed by cartoon, caricature and celebrities. The design factor of eroticism ranges from the see-through look, partial exposure of human body, symbolization of underwear, and to printing of sexy images. The design factor of lettering and graffiti encompasses letters, numbers, symbols and logos. Adoption of letters, numbers or symbols was ranked first, followed by brand logos and graffiti. The design factor of Assemblage is closely related to a three-dimensional effect. Varied expressions are possible: combination of two different textiles and fusion of textile and non-textile. Combination of two different textiles are higher than fusion of textile and non-textile.

모스키노의 패션 세계에 반영된 창조적 유머 (A study of creative humor represented in Moschino's works)

  • This study is to assist in developing creative designs based on the humor available in the fashion world of Moschino. For the research method, this writing examined literature on humor and Moschino's fashion world and analyzed Moschino's fashion collection, show window, Maison Moschino, and collaborative products to conduct an empirical analysis of humor shown to the fashion media. The research results are as follows. The humor in Moschino's fashion appeared in the form of surrealistic humor with the depaysement technique, deconstructive wit in clothing, such as distortion, change, or exaggeration, and textual humor, including brand symbols, logos, and graffiti. Collection pieces indicated the brand's confirmative identity based on humor with the surrealistic depaysement technique and deconstructive wit through irregular phenomena, such as change, distortion, exaggeration, and illusion in clothing form. Additionally, such attributes added to Moschino's wit and humor in decorative costume components as graphic images, graffiti, and brand symbols, including smile, love, and reversal. The show window display delivered surprises and smiles through the production of surrealistic space borrowed from various objects. In particular, performance with surrealistic images helped to show the characteristics of parodic humor. Maison Moschino was a surrealistic space for the concept of the fairy tale and for practical experience, thus working as a communication channel for humor and emotion. Collaborative products also clearly reflected the identity of the designer's own humor, which showed scarcity value as well as differentiation.

타이포그래피를 이용한 현대패션의 유형과 미적 특성 (Pattern and Aesthetic Characteristics of Modem Fashion using Typography)

  • This research covers the ways in which typography, which has been expressed in a diverse range of fields and changed communication functions from the era of reading to the era of feeling according to the change in the times and social demands, has been represented in modem fashion, along with examining its inherent aesthetic characteristics. I reviewed the general information of typography's fundamental notions and functions through documented records, and analyzed the inherent aesthetic characteristics by examining the typographical patterns shown in modem fashion based on art works in domestic and international collections after 2000. The result of this research is that typography in modem fashion has been used for improving brand image, expressing social slogans, expressing images, linguistic function for playful expression and the interdependent relationships of modeling functions. Typography in modem fashion has always been diversely expressed harmoniously with linguistic and modeling functions. Through this, the aesthetic characteristics were firstly parodies through direct sentences addressing political and social ideologies, economic gaps, environmental issues and anti-war protests. Secondly, by using brand logos, typography was used as a commercial means like brand-image transfer and separation through customization of other brands. Thirdly, the aesthetic and artistic value of fashion were expressed after being used as experimental visual components like image, motive and patterns which are all elements of fashion design. Fourthly, by distortion and transformation of characters or childish decorations, along with the harmonization of words, cathartic humor was provided for the calloused senses of modern people.

  • The rural tourism in Korea is expanding in scope including experience tours and integrating with dining industry these days. The Rural Development Administration in Korea has been supporting the farm restaurant project across the nation as part of its efforts to utilize local or rural food recipes as tourism resource for seven years. Over the years, however, case studies are rarely done or reported regarding physical environment of farm restaurants. This study offers an opportunity for farm restaurateurs and policy makers related to recognize the importance of developing brand identity and inner culture contents for the rural community by presenting a case of integrated design marketing. In the study, definitions of the "authentic food" in Korea and other countries are compared before farm restaurants at home and abroad are investigated. It also addresses the foundation on the significance of physical environment and design to build a brand identity of authentic food. The case presented is naming, designing and developing logos and design applicable to various product packages for "Hwanggeum Bori Aechan", which is the barley (main crop in Gimje)- dish development project for Gimje, North Jeolla Province in 2012.

브랜드 로고 기호의 의미작용과 커뮤니케이션 분석 체계의 제안과 활용:소셜 미디어 브랜드 로고를 중심으로 (Design and use of the Signification and Communication Analysis Frame for the Brand Logo Sign: based on the Social Media Brands)

  • 브랜드 로고는 상품과 서비스의 경쟁이 의미적으로 시작되는 출발점인 바, 로고 기호의 의미작용과 커뮤니케이션에 대한 분석은 브랜드 간 차이와 변별 요소의 발견에 기여할 수 있다. 이에 본 논문은 브랜드로고 기호작용에 대하여 총체적이고 일관성 있는 판독을 위한 분석 체계인 'SCoL' (Analysis frame of signification and communication for the brand logo, SCoL, 스콜) 를 개발하고, 이를 서비스의 초기 경쟁에 있어 로고 기호의 의존도가 높은 소셜 미디어 브랜드 로고 분석에 적용함으로써 제안의 타당성을 증명하고자 한다. SCoL은 브랜드 로고 기호의 4가지 형식 구성 요소를 토대로 퍼스의 도상, 지표, 상징을 통한 1단계 의미 작용 분석에 이어 2단계 분석으로 야콥슨의 이론을 적용하여 커뮤니케이션 기능을 해석할 수 있도록 고안되었다. SCoL 프레임을 적용하여 소셜 미디어 브랜드 로고 기호를 분석한 결과 소셜 미디어 브랜드들은 기호작용을 통해 고유한 의미 영역을 구축하고 있었으며, 또한 서로 다른 커뮤니케이션 기능에 의존하여 브랜드의 의미를 전달하고 있음을 발견하였다. SCoL은 분석 과정에서 브랜드 로고 기호의 구성 요소에 대한 판독 단위를 제공하여 기호학적 관점에서 로고의 의미 작용과 커뮤니케이션 기능 해석을 위한 유효한 분석 도구로 역할 하였다.

  • 오늘날 국내 캠핑인구는 500만이 넘었고, 캠핑관련 산업도 지속적으로 성장하고 있지만 미국, 유럽과 일본 등 캠핑선진국에 비해 다소 미흡한 캠핑 문화와 수입 캠핑브랜드의 높은 의존도가 문제되고 있다. 따라서 국내산 캠핑 브랜드의 정착과 글로벌화 브랜드 육성을 위한 노력이 필요하다. 이에 본 연구에서는 국내산 캠핑 브랜드 정체성 수립과 차별화 전략을 위한 자료 제공을 위해 감성 인지적 접근을 통한 조사를 시행하였다. 감성적 접근을 위해 '캠핑, 캠프, 캠핑 브랜드, 캠핑 디자인'을 키워드로 빅 데이터 조사를 실시하고 분석하였으며, 인지적 접근을 통해 해외 유명 캠핑 브랜드 17개와 국내산 브랜드 10개에 대한 마켓조사를 실시하였다. 빅 데이터를 통한 조사 결과 소비자들의 정보 교류 경로를 유추할수 있었다. 캠핑 관련 연관어 및 마켓조사를 통해 브랜드 가치를 형성하는 주요 요소를 알수 있었다. 또한, 세계적인 유명 브랜드의 경우 각자의 브랜드 정체성이 뚜렷하며 독자적인 브랜드 스토리와 로고 디자인, 상품 디자인, 색채를 구축하고 있었으며 일관성을 지니고 있었다.

현대 패션에 나타난 캘리그라피의 표현유형 및 의의 (The Types of Expression and Meanings of Calligraphy Appearing in Modern Fashion)

  • The purpose of this study was to analyze the types and meanings of calligraphy presented in modern fashion design. Calligraphy refers to beautiful handwriting or fine penmanship in the West, and handwriting with brushstrokes in the East. The expression patterns being used at present can be divided into three categories. Legible calligraphy is focused on readability more than embellishment. Decorative calligraphy places its importance on decoration at the expense of practicality. The third type, harmonious calligraphy, pursues decorativeness and legibility at the same time. Each of these types of calligraphy is expressed in modern fashion with its own purpose: calligraphy for conveying emotional messages, calligraphy as a special brand image, and calligraphy as an expression of formativeness. The first, calligraphy for conveying emotional messages, is used with characters that are familiar to the public. Calligraphy of this type delivers messages confined emotionally to the conscious world, harmonizing calligraphy with words, or expressing readability filled with purity and delight. Second, calligraphy as a special brand image refers to transmitting a distinctive brand image from other companies through employment of a design motive or pattern by expressing the brand logos or names of designers. Third, calligraphy as a expression of formativeness has the function of shaping expressions as motives or patterns, avoiding meanings of words or phrases. It can be represented by the abbreviation or modification of words, or arranging words in different shapes, harmonizing the words with the clothing construction and atmosphere of the other images.

컬러커뮤니케이션이 브랜드 이미지에 미치는 영향에 대한 연구 - 기업 로고를 중심으로 (Research about the Influence of Color Communication on Brand Images - based on Industrial Logos)

  • 컬러는 어떠한 다른 요소보다 앞선 단계에서 인간의 의식과 무의식에 영향을 주며 형태보다 강하게 소비자에게 다가갈 수 있기 때문에 긍정적인 기업 이미지 구축을 위한 효과적인 컬러 마케팅을 기대할 수 있다. 본 연구에서는 컬러커뮤니케이션이 브랜드 이미지 형성에 얼마나 영향을 주는가를 연구하여 컬러커뮤니케이션의 중요성을 일깨우고 브랜드 이미지의 가치를 높이는 전략방법을 알아보고자 하였다. 효과적 연구를 위해 기존 연구 자료와 문헌을 통해 이론적 고찰을 하고 실증 조사 분석을 하였다. 연구결과를 보면, 신뢰(credibility)와 호감을 갖는 브랜드는 컬러커뮤니케이션 보다는 여러 마케팅 활동으로 인한 신뢰 있는 기업의 브랜드를 선호한다고 볼 수 있다. 또, 선호하는 컬러의 차이는 분명하지만, 선호하는 브랜드 로고의 컬러와 자신의 이미지를 나타내는 컬러와는 큰 관계가 없는 것으로 나타났다. 선호 브랜드 로고의 컬러 보다는 신뢰와 호감을 느껴 선호하는 브랜드가 있으며 이 또한 자신의 이미지를 나타내는 컬러와는 독립적임을 알 수 있다. 소비자의 자아 이미지를 나타내는 컬러와 브랜드 이미지를 형성하는 감성적 컬러와의 영향은 없으며, 선호하는 컬러가 브랜드 이미지를 형성하는 감성적 컬러와의 영향관계는 있는 것으로 나타나 소비자 자아 이미지를 나타내는 컬러 보다는 표적 시장의 소비자 선호 컬러가 무엇인가를 파악하는 것이 중요할 것으로 생각된다. 이 연구를 통해 브랜드 이미지 형성에서 컬러커뮤니케이션을 전략적으로 어떻게 활용하며, 기존의 컬러커뮤니케이션 연구와 달리 각 브랜드 로고의 컬러 감성을 통한 이미지와 소비자 선호와의 관계를 살펴보고자 하였다.

문화도시 브랜드 이미지 구축을 위한 유니폼 디자인 개발 - '아시아문화중심도시' 광주를 중심으로 - (The Uniform Design Development to Build a City Brand using its Culture - Focusing on 'Kwangju, The Cultural Hub City of Asia' -)

  • Lately, cities have been trying to build a certain brand by using its identity and culture in public designs. Cities are using its public design to show its cultural identity and to differentiate itself from other cities so it is playing a significant role in establishing a city's overall image. Public uniform is used to reflect the symbolism and identity of the city, an image of the city's culture and is used as a means of communication for specialization. Thus, the purpose of this study is to develop public uniform designs to build and strengthen the brand of Gwangju as Asia cultural hub city. Research presents a review of the literature including concept and type of a cultural city, correlativity between public design and urban competitiveness, domestic and foreign culture city branding case: focusing on Gwangju which is a cultural hub city in Asia, and then study sets up the development direction and motifs of uniform designs, and uniforms are designed by making use of the textile with symbols and logos, colors, and architectural motifs of Asian Culture Complex. Development ranges of uniforms were limited to Cultural Tourism Narrators and the Asian Culture Complex Advertisements staff uniforms, within the region of cultural tourism. Textile design, illustration, uniform simulation using Adobe Photoshop 7.0 and Adobe Illustrator CS 3 program is presented.
