Silicon purification through acid leaching and unidirectional solidification (산처리와 일방향 응고를 이용한 실리콘 정제)

  • Recently the shortage of silicon resources especially for poly-silicon of purity higher than 99.9999% leads to search for the more cheap and quick synthesizing routes for silicon feedstock. In order to solve this situation, we investigated the purification process of metallurgical grade (MG) silicon of purity around 99% by the acid leaching and following the unidirectional solidification. MG-Si lumps are pulverized with a planetary mill, and then leached with HCl/$HNO_3$/HF acid solution. As a result, the concentration of metal impurities including Al, Fe, Ca, Mn, etc. decreased dramatically. This process led to silicon content higher than 99.99%. The purified silicon powders were compacted and have been melted and uni-directionally solidified with heat exchange method (HEM) furnace. The properties of multicrystalline silicon ingots were specific resistance of $0.3{\Omega}{\cdot}cm$ and minority carrier life time (MCLT) of $3.8{\mu}{\cdot}sec$.

A Study on the Pressure Variation of Intake Pipe and the Volumetric Efficiency in a Multi-Cylinder Engine (다실린더기관 흡기관내의 압력변동과 체적효율에 관한 연구)

  • The characteristic of volumetric efficiency considering gas exchange process in a reciprocating engine is presented in this paper. The characteristic method is used for solving gas exchange problems of engine system in theoretical studies. The validity of the simulation is investigated by a comparison with the results obtained by the experiment which have been performed on the practical 4-cycle, 4-cylinder gasoline engine. The relationship between the volumetric efficiency and the intake pressure variation according to configuration of intake pipe, position of branch point, valve timing, compression ratio is clarified through simulation and experiment. The results predicted by the simulation are found to be in approximate agreement with those obtained by the experiment.

  • New process to determine $^{90}Sr$ in the environmental samples was established by investigating the existing methods. The environmental samples included soil, milk, seaweed, fishes and clams, pine needles, and marine sediment. Using the developed method combined with fuming nitric acid and ion exchange resin, which could be reduced the treatment step, we could be removed Ca effectively for the determination of $^{90}Sr$. The recovery yield of $^{90}Sr$ in this method was 10% higher than those of using the fuming nitric acid only. This method could be applied to all environmental samples we choose. The content of $^{90}Sr$ in soil was the highest value in the tested environmental samples.

Hardware Design and Implementation of Joint Viterbi Detection and Decoding Algorithm for Bluetooth Low Energy Systems (블루투스 저전력 시스템을 위한 저복잡도 결합 비터비 검출 및 복호 알고리즘의 하드웨어 설계 및 구현)

  • In this paper, we propose an efficient Viterbi processor using Joint Viterbi detection and decoding (JVDD) algorithm for a for bluetooth low energy (BLE) system. Since the convolutional coded Gaussian minimum-shift keying (GMSK) signal is specified in the BLE 5.0 standard, two Viterbi processors are needed for detection and decoding. However, the proposed JVDD scheme uses only one Viterbi processor by modifying the branch metric with inter-symbol interference information from GMSK modulation; therefore, the hardware complexity can be significantly reduced without performance degradation. Low-latency and low-complexity hardware architecture for the proposed JVDD algorithm was proposed, which makes Viterbi decoding completed within one clock cycle. Viterbi Processor RTL synthesis results on a GF55nm process show that the gate count is 12K and the memory unit and the initial latency is reduced by 33% compared to the modified state exchange (MSE).

The Amount of Earnings Per Share's Adjustment and Earnings Management

  • Purpose - Our goal was to determine whether there is a relationship between actual profits' deviation from the profits expected in earnings per share's adjustment announcements and the degree of apparent earnings management in annual financial statements. Research design, data, and methodology - The samples consisted of 133 companies from ten industries. The companies were selected among those listed in the stock exchange, and their data were examined covering the two-year period from 2008 to 2010. Tests were conducted using a regression model and SPSS statistical software. Results - The findings indicate the following. There is no significantly positive relationship among the last earnings per share's adjustment forecast, the first earnings forecast per share, and earnings management. Moreover, the amount of the latest earnings per share's adjustment forecast relative to its first forecast is not associated with the companies' discretionary accruals items. Finally, the hypothesis that a relationship exists between companies' latest adjustments of their earnings per share and earnings management was tested the results indicate that there is no such relationship. Conclusions - The study's results suggest that the amount of earnings per share's adjustment is not a motivation for earnings management.

Disclosure Quality and Economic Value Added

  • Purpose - This research investigates the effect of disclosure quality with two main components, reliability and timeliness, on economic value added in Iran. Research design, data, and methodology - The sampling includes 170 Tehran Stock Exchange listed companies from 2008-12. Multiple regression analysis was applied to test the hypotheses and estimates of the coefficients. Firm size and return on assets were the control variables. Results - The results show that timeliness of information has a positive impact on economic value added. We did not find any significant relationship between disclosure quality and reliability of information and economic value added. The regressed model shows that there is no significant association between firm size and economic value added. The results also show that there is a positive association between return on assets and economic value added. Conclusions - Theoretically, timely information is effective in decision-making. This study shows that timeliness of information has positive effect on the creation of economic value added. However, disclosure quality, reliability, and firm size do not effect on economic value added. Companies with greater return on assets produce greater economic value added.

  • This paper describes the development of robust contingency analysis program for Korean Energy Management System. The important function of contingency analysis is to determine the bus/branch model for contingency, and to calculate the state of the power network based on the network model and topology output. In the proposed method, the bus/branch models for contingencies are determined exactly using a fast linked-list method based on the application common model database. To calculate the state of the power system included contingency, the full-decoupled powerflow approach, the partial powerflow method for contingencies and the proposed contingency screening algorithm are also used to contingency analysis. To verify the performance of the developed processor, we performed a file-based test using several structured input data and online test using the database which resides on memory. The results of these comprehensive tests showed that the developed processors can accurately calculate the power system contingency state from online data and can be applied to Korea Power Exchange system.

  • This study aims at suggesting mid- and long-term development plan (vision, core values, strategic goals and functional performances, major tasks and detailed action plans for each strategy, organizational and human resources management, shared responsibility with the National Library of Korea which is main library in collection and services of policy information, and cooperation and collaborative exchange programs) for the National Library of Korea, Sejong. This study is based on the appropriateness that the library should enhance its visibility through focusing on the role as the specialized library in charge of public policy information services if it wished to ensure the identity of a branch of the National library of Korea for the comprehensive collection, preservation, and nationwide services of public policy information.

Synthesis of Potassium Hexatitanate with Non-Fibrous Shape as a Raw Material for Friction Material in Brake System (자동차 브레이크 마찰재용 비침상형 육티탄산칼륨의 합성 연구)

  • We synthesized potassium hexatitanate, ($K_2Ti_6O_{13}$, PT6), with a non-fibrous shape, by acid leaching and subsequent thermal treatment of potassium tetratitanate ($K_2Ti_4O_9$, PT4), with layered crystal structure. By controlling nucleation and growth of PT4 crystals, we obtained splinter-type crystals of PT6 with increased width and reduced thickness. The optimal holding temperature for the layered PT4 was found to be ${\sim}920^{\circ}C$. The length and width of the PT4 crystals were increased when the nucleation and growth time were increased. After a proton exchange reaction using aqueous 0.3 M HCl solution, and subsequent heat treatment at $850^{\circ}C$, the PT4 crystal transformed into splinter-type PT6 crystals. The frictional characteristics of the friction materials show that as the particle size of PT6 increases, the coefficient of friction (COF) and wear amounts of both the friction materials and counter disc increase.

Internet Financial Reporting: Case of Iran

  • Purpose - The purpose of this paper is has been to identify the information disclosed by Internet website companies listed in Tehran Stock Exchange. Research design, data, methodology - The list was prepared includes 84 attributes for financial information in two parts and 36 non-financial information attributes and with 48 attributes of listed companies in Tehran Stock Exchange. Results - The results show that Internet reporting in Iran has improved compared to previous research. However, the level of financial disclosure and accounting firms with the most important research in this area is weak and these companies are more willing to disclose non-financial information to disclose their financial information. In Iran has been little research on Internet financial reporting. Conclusions - Although this study has been to the best possible information is available on the website of each company covered and fully evaluated but May have some unwanted data hidden from view has been fulfilled and is missing. The attribute relating to support of other languages, in this study, only the presence or absence of links (other languages) and information disclosed is limited to languages have not been studied other than Persian.
