An investigation has been made on the relationship between characteristics of torsional mode signal in MsS and SH mode signal in BEM modeling for the defect of stainless steel pipe. In order to compare torsional mode signal with SH mode signal of defect in stainless steel pipe, specimens were made by changing size of depth and width along to circumferential direction 360 degrees. All the defects was detected by torsional mode signal of MsS, especially according to the change of depth size, amplitude of signal was changed. But width change for the circumferential defects has no certain tendency. SH mode signal of BEM modeling shows similar results with torsional mode, with change makes amplitude variation of signal. In this paper, the characteristics of torsional mode and SH mode signals were found. It is possible to predict the circumferential defects for the pipe by SH mode modeling.

Dynamic behavior of flexible rectangular liquid containers is analyzed by a two-dimensional coupled boundary element-finite element method. The irrotational motion of inviscid and incompressible ideal fluid is modeled by boundary elements and the motion of structure by finite elements. A singularity free integral formulation is employed for the implementation of boundary element method. Coupling is performed by using compatibility and equilibrium conditions along the interface between the fluid and structure. The fluid-structure interaction effects are reflected into the coupled equation of motion as added fluid mass matrix and sloshing stiffness matrix. By solving the eigen-problem for the coupled equation of motion, natural frequencies and mode shapes of coupled system are obtained. The free surface sloshing motion and hydrodynamic pressure developed in a flexible rectangular container due to horizontal and vertical ground motions are computed in time domain.

In this paper, we develop a method for generating thumbnail images at hybrid domain combined the spatial domain and transform domain. The proposed method generates a pixel of a thumbnail image by adding a DC value of residual transform coefficients and an average value of an estimate block. For effectively calculating average values of estimate blocks, we propose a method for reconstructing the boundary pixels of a block. In comparison to the conventional method of decoding the bit stream then scaling down the decoded images, the developed method reduces the complexity by more than 60% while producing identical thumbnail images.
Free Vibration Analysis using Non-dimensional Dynamic Influence Function (NDIF) is extended to arbitrarily shaped plates including polygonal plates. Since the corners of polygonal plates have indefinite normal directions and additional boundary conditions related to a twisting moment at a corner along with moment and shear force zero conditions, it is not easy to apply the NDIF method to polygonal plates wi th the free boundary condition. Moreover, owing to the fact that the local polar coordinate system, which has been introduced for free plates with smoothly varying edges, cannot be employed for the straight edges of the polygonal plates, a new coordinate system is required for the polygonal plates. These problems are solved by developing the new method of modifying a corner into a circular arc and setting the normal direction at the corner to an average value of normal direct ions of two edges adjacent to the corner. Some case studies for plates with various shapes show that the proposed method gives credible natural frequencies and mode shapes for various polygons that agree well with those by an exact method or FEM (ANSYS).
A three dimensional boundary element method-BEAP3D was applied to the stability analysis of the mine openings not only to improve the stability during mining operations but also to serve the evaluation of the mine openings for further utilization. Stability analysis on the stability of the room-and-pillar stopes underneath of the old mine openings and the openings to be created by the newly proposed sublevel stoping method at the Nowhado Pyrophyllite Mine, showed that rock mass around the old and new stopes would be stable. Six stopes of a sublevel stoping designed for the Choongmu Limestone Quarry would be stable, too. A sublevel stoping method consisting of six stopes was similarly suggested for the Keumpyung Quartzite Mine. The stability can be guaranteed through out six stopes. Since mining starts from the bottom 1st sublevel to the uppermost sublevel, the safety of the stopes will improve together with the mining process. It would highly be recommended to investigate in-situ rock properties and the rock stresses for future studies. Even though the rock around the uppermost part and bottom of all the stopes have a very high factor of safety, spot reinforcements such as rock bolting would be recommended to mitigate the intermediate and minor principal stresses acting in a tensile mode.
A method of calculating the natural frequency corresponding to the first mode of vibration of beams and tower structures, with irregular cross-sections and with arbitrary boundary conditions was developed and reported by D. H. Kim in 1974. This method has been developed for two-dimensional problems including the laminated composite plates and was proved to be very effective for the plates with arbitrary boundary conditions and irregular sections. In this paper, the result of application of this method to the building slabs with passive and active control devices is presented. Finite difference method is used to obtain the deflection influence surfaces needed for this vibration analysis in this paper. The influence of the modulus of the foundation on the natural frequency is thoroughly studied.

Due to test facility and specialty, it is physically difficult to conduct the modal tests of large-sized structures such as truck, bus and airplane. So, in case of a large-sized truck, the mode analysis on a full vehicle model comprised of reliable cabin, frame, and deck has been generally performed. However, the reliability of overall vibrational characteristics of the analytic model has not been fairly guaranteed by the testified models of each subsystem owing to the existence of cab suspension and the nonlinear mounting between a chassis frame and a special deck system. In this paper, a method to find out the modal characteristics of a large-sized military truck is presented. New modal test equipment is developed to set the boundary conditions of three military truck variants as close as a free-free condition. And the mode analysis method using coupled structure and dynamic models is established to consider the above-mentioned dynamic non-linearities of the vehicle itself. The usefulness of the suggested method is verified by comparing with the modal test results. Finally, the modal parameters of the final variant are extracted using the proved analytic method.

In this paper, the solutions of TE (transverse electric) scattering problems by a conductive strip grating over grounded two dielectric layers are analyzed by applying the PMM (point matching method) known as a numerical method of electromagnetic fileld. The boundary conditions are applied to obtain the unknown field coefficients, the scattered electromagnetic fields are expanded in a series of Floquet mode functions, and the conductive boundary condition apply to analysis of conducting strip. The most normalized reflected powers of the sharp variations in minimum values are scattered in direction of the other angles except incident angle. The numerical results for normalized reflected power are analyzed by according as the width and spacing of conductive strip, the relative permittivity and thickness of the two dielectric layers, and incident angles. The numerical results of present numericl analysis are shown in good agreement compared to those of the existing papers using FGMM (fourier galerkin moment method).
This study attempts to address the buckling and free vibration characteristics of an isotropic cylindrical panel subjected to non-uniform temperature rise using numerical approach. Finite element analysis has been used in the present study. The approach involves three parts, in the first part non-uniform temperature field is obtained using heat transfer analysis, in the second part, the stress field is computed under the thermal load using static condition and, the last part, the buckling and pre-stressed modal analysis are carried out to compute critical buckling temperature as well as natural frequencies and associated mode shapes. In the present study, the effect of non-uniform temperature field, heat sink temperatures and in-plane boundary constraints are considered. The relation between buckling temperature under uniform and non-uniform temperature fields has been established. Results revealed that decrease (Case (ii)) type temperature variation field influences the fundamental buckling mode shape significantly. Further, it is observed that natural frequencies under free vibration state, decreases as temperature increases. However, the reduction is significantly higher for the lowest natural frequency. It is also found that, with an increase in temperature, nodal and anti-nodal positions of free vibration mode shapes is shifting towards the location where the intensity of the heat source is high and structural stiffness is low.

This paper is about Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM) cell security in which an Output Feedback (OFB) mode is applied to an AES block ciphers. ATM cells are divided into user data cells and maintenance cells, and each cell is 53 octets in size and consists of a header of 5 octets and a payload of 48 octets. In order to encrypt/decrypt ATM cells, the boundaries of cells must be detected, which is possible using the Header Error Control (HEC) field in the header. After detecting the boundary of the cell, the type of payload is detected using a payload type (PT) code to encrypt only the user cell. In this paper, a security method for ATM cells that satisfies the requirements of ISO 9160 is presented.
