We have developed an in-situ benthic chamber (BelcI) for use in coastal studies that can be deployed from a small boat. It is expected that BelcI will be useful in studying the benthic boundary layer because of its flexibility. BelcI is divided into three main areas: 1) frame and body chamber, 2) water sampler, and 3) stirring devices, electric controller, and data acquisition technology. To maximize in-situ use, the frame is constructed from two layers that consist of square cells. All electronic parts (motor controller, pA meter, data acquisition, etc.) are low-power consumers so that the external power supply can be safely removed from the system. The hydrodynamics of BelcI, measured by PIV (particle image velocimetry), show a typical "radial-flow impeller" pattern. Mixing time of water in the chamber is about 30 s, and shear velocity ($u^*$) near the bottom layer was calculated at $0.32\;cm\;s^{-1}$. Measurements of diffusivity boundary layer thickness showed a range of $180-230\;{\mu}m$. Sediment oxygen consumption rate, measured in-situ,was $84\;mmol\;O_2\;m^{-2}\;d_{-1}$, more than two times higher than on-board incubation results. Benthic fluxes assessed from in-situ incubation were estimated as follows: nitrate + nitrite = $0.18\;{\pm}\;0.07\;mmol\;m^{-2}\;d^{-1}$ ammonium $23\;{\pm}\;1\;mmol\;m^{-2}\;d^{-1}$ phosphate = $0.09\;{\pm}\;0.02\;mmol\;m^{-2}\;d^{-1}$ and silicate = $23\;{\pm}\;1\;mmol\;m^{-2}\;d^{-1}$.
The present study was conducted to investigate the structural changes in rat cornes. Sixty eyes from one-day-old uneyed rats, fourty eyes from 10-weeks-old adult rats were used. With the increase of age, the epithelial layer was thickened by the addition of new successive cellular layers. Then, the new-born rat's epithelial cells formed a pentagonal shape, and the quality of decidual cells showed a high electron-density, although the boundary between cells was distinctive. The newly produced cells showed a low electron-density so that there was the distinctive difference between light and darkness. In Bowman's layer, collagen fibrils demonstrate a regularly arranged structure along with the age. In stroma's layer, the density of keratocytes was decreased and thereby progressively flattened during the development. The collagenous layer of the adult rats was more distinctive than that of the new-born rats in a form of vertical and horizontal parallel alignment running vertically and horizontally. Descemet's membrane changed its structure significantly along with the age. It changed the shape from "banded-layer" to "non-banded layer" gradually. The thickness was also increased along with the age. Regardless of developmental stages, the endothelium is usually monolayer. During the developmental process, endothelial cells disappeared, so the density of endothelium was also decreased. The empty spaces were replaced by the expansion of adjacent cells.

A vertically-averaged, two-dimensional version of the Princeton Ocean Model has been applied to the South Sea to simulate the circulation driven by tides and inflows/outflows across open boundaries. To incorporate both forcing properly, a two-step modeling approach is adopted, in which the tidal circulation is first simulated by specifying the tides along the open boundaries, and then both the calculated tidal currents and the observed steady mean currents are prescribed across the open boundaries. Model results show that the steady, subtidal circulation of the South Sea is different from the residual circulation due to tidal rectification, and subtidal currents become locally as strong as tidal currents. The Cheju Current entering the model domain across the Cheju Strait flows eastward in general while shifting onshore or offshore areas following local isobaths. The Tsushima Current entering across the southern boundary reaches farther to the north in the eastern vicinity of Cheju-Do as compared to that entering across other parts of the southern boundary. The Tsushima Current turns to the east, merges with the Cheju Current, and both the Cheju and Tsushima Current exit to the East Sea through the western channel of the Korea Strait. An intensification of the outflow occurs over the deep trough adjacent to the Tsushima Island, which appears to be due to the formation of the frictional boundary layer in order to remove excess positive relative vorticity generated by an increase in the layer thickness. The circulation driven by both the tidal and inflows/outflows is different from that driven by each forcing separately in coastal areas, which implies that both forcings should be considered simultaneously in the simulation of more realistic coastal circulation.
The earth's crust is unceasingly undergoing deformations because of the forces acting upon it. The relationship between the tectonic forces and the resulting deformations are found from the states of stresses in the earth's crust induced by these forces. The study has been attempted to analyze the deformations of the overlying sedimentary layers, which are deformed by the magma intrusion along its lower boundary. The elastic model is constructed to analyze the geologic structures, by means of the theory of elasticity, and then the appropriate boundary conditions are given. The solution of the Airy stress function which satisfies the given boundary conditions is derived from the analytic method. The internal stress distributions of the deformed elastic model layer are portrayed by principal stress trajetories, and then the corresponding potential faults and joints systems are predicted from the Coulomb-Mohr failure criterion. The internal displacement distributions are shown by the calculated displacement components vectors, namely horizontal, vertical and net components. Results of the numerical calculations show the developments of some geologic structures as follows; (1) one set of shear joints and or two sets of shear joints which are oppisite directions, and one set of extension joints parallel to the ${\sigma}_1$ direction, (2) one set of high angle thrusts and normal faults, (3) symmetric fold; both limbs are dipping in opposite direction with low angle. The field work at the Wall-A San area, located near Jinju City, in southern Korea, had accomplished to compare the field structures with the predicted ones. The results of the comparison exhibits the developments of joint and fault systems satisfactorily consistent with each others. But the area does not show any type of folding, in spite of the intrusion of a granodiorite massif, this fact is one of the important features of the whole Kyungsang sedimentary basins of Mesozoic age distributed at the south-eastern parts of Korea. For this reason, it is thought that the magma intrusion had occurred with extremly low pressure. The geologic structures have been modified by the erosion and weathering throughout the geologic time, and the conditions of the sedimentary layers (width, thickness and radius of magma) are not the same as before, being intruded by the magma. To enlighten this, it is preferable to study these geologic structures with analyses of various types of rheological models.
In this paper, The TE (Transverse Electric) scattering problems by a perfectly conducting strip grating over a grounded two dielectric layers are analyzed by applying the conductive boundary condition and the FGMM (Fourier-Galerkin Moment Method) known as a numerical procedure, then the induced surface current density is expanded in a series of the multiplication of the unknown coefficient and the exponential function as a simple function. Generally, the reflected power gets increased according as the relative permittivity ${\epsilon}_{r2}$ and the thickness of dielectric layer $t_2$ of the region-2 in the presented structure gets increased, respectively. The sharp variations of the reflected power are due to resonance effects were previously called wood's anomaly, the numerical results show in good agreement with those of the existing papers.
The amplitude and phase lag of surface deformation were determined for a compliant coating under the action of turbulent pressure fluctuations. For this purpose, pressure fluctuations were measured experimentally. The amplitude and duration of coherent wave train of pressure fluctuations were investigated using digital filtration. The transient response was calculated for stabilization of forced oscillations of the coating in approximation of local deformation. The response of coating was analyzed with considerations of its inertial properties and limited duration of coherent harmonics action of pressure fluctuations. It is shown that a compliant coating interacts not with the whole spectrum of pressure fluctuations, but only with a frequency range near the first resonance. According to the analysis, with increasing elasticity modulus of the coating material E, deformation amplitude decreases as 1/E, and dimensionless velocity of the coating surface decreases as $1/\sqrt{E}$. For sufficiently hard coatings, deformation amplitude becomes smaller than the thickness of viscous sublayer, while surface velocity remains comparable to vertical velocity fluctuations of the flow.

The Purification mechanism of high purity aluminum was studied through the variation of stirring speed and coolant flow rate in the stirring method. In the stirring method the degree of purification was changed as the following factors;the variation of diffusion boundary layer thickness the variation of growth rate and the solute concentration of the residual melt. The concentration of Fe and Si was decreased as the stirring speed and the radial distance increased. In a high stirring speed of 2000rpm with unidirectional stirring mode, the uniformity of solutes was obtained. On the other hand, the purification of Si was done by the combinations of stirring method, fractional melting and acid leaching. In the case of Si purification, the centrifugal force developed in the melt acted as the significant purification factor. It was possible to obtain the purified 3N grade Si crystal after the complete elimination of residual aluminum by fractional melting and acid leaching.

In the present research, the free vibration analysis of functionally graded (FG) nanocomposite deep spherical shells reinforced by graphene platelets (GPLs) on elastic foundation is performed. The elastic foundation is assumed to be Winkler-Past ernak-type. It is also assumed that graphaene platelets are randomly oriented and uniformly dispersed in each layer of the nanocomposite shell. Volume fraction of the graphene platelets as nanofillers may be different in the layers. The modified HalpinTsai model is used to approximate the effective mechanical properties of the multilayer nanocomposite. With the aid of the first order shear deformation shell theory and implementing Hamilton's principle, motion equations are derived. Afterwards, the generalized differential quadrature method (GDQM) is utilized to study the free vibration characteristics of FG-GPLRC spherical shell. To assess the validity and accuracy of the presented method, the results are compared with the available researches. Finally, the natural frequencies and corresponding mode shapes are provided for different boundary conditions, GPLs volume fraction, types of functionally graded, elastic foundation coefficients, opening angles of shell, and thickness-to-radius ratio.

In the present study, the steady, incompressible, isothermal, developing flow in a 90.deg. rectangular cross sectional strongly curved duct with aspect ratio 1:1.5 and Reynolds number of 9.4*10$^{4}$ has been investigated. Measurements of components of mean velocities, pressures, and corresponding components of the Reynolds stress tensor are obtained with a hot-wire anemometer and pitot tube. In general, flow in a curved duct is characterized by the secondary vortices which are driven mainly by centrifugal force-radial pressure gradient imbalance, and the stress field stabilizing effects near the convex wall and destablizing effects close to the concave wall. It was found that the secondary mean velocities attain values up to 39% of the bulk velocity and are largely responsible for the convections of Reynolds stress in the cross stream plane. Therefor upstream of the bend the Reynolds stress are low. Corresponding to the small boundary layer thickness. At successive planes, large values of Reynolds stress were observed near the concave surface and the side wall.

In this study, the turbulent free surface around KVLCC1 employed in the circular motion test simulation is numerically calculated using a commercial CFD(Computational Fluid Dynamics) code, FLUENT. Also, hydrodynamic forces and yaw moments around a ship model are calculated during the steady turning. Numerical simulations of the turbulent flows with free surface around KVLCC1 have been carried out by use of RANS equation based on calculation of hydrodynamic forces and yaw moments exerted upon the ship hull. Wave elevation is simulated by using the VOF method. VOF method is known as one of the most effective numerical techniques handling two-fluid domains of different density simultaneously. Boundary layer thickness and wake field are changed various yaw velocities of ship model during the steady turning. The calculated hydrodynamic forces are compared with those obtained by model tests.
