Preparation and Opticaa Properties of CuCl Nanocrystallites Dispersed Nonlinear Optical Glass by Sol-Gel Process (솔-젤법에 의한 CuCl 미세결정이 분산된 비선형 광학유리의 제조 및 광특성)

  • CuCl nanocrystallites dispersed nonlinear optical silica and borosilicate glasses were fabricated by sol-gel process. CuCl powder was dissolved in TEOS(Si(OC2H5)4) and TMB((CH3O)3B), precursors of silica and borosilicate glasses, with ethanol, water and HCl, and precipitated through the heat treatment in the matrix glass. The optical properties of CuCl doped glasses were measured using the spectrophotometer at room temperature and low temperature(77K); Z1, 2 and Z3 exciton peaks from the absorption spectra, were observed at about 370 nm and 380 nm, respectively. The average radius of nanocrystallites, calculated from the blue shift of Z3 excitons, was measured according to annealing temperature and time. The precipitation temperature of CuCl nanocrystallites was decreased when boron was added to silica glass. Increase of annealing temperature and time made average radius of nanocrystallites saturated about 2 nm.

Effect of SiO2/B2O3 ratio on Li ion conductivity of a Li2O-B2O3-SiO2 glass electrolyte

  • A lithium ion conducting borosilicate glass was fabricated by a conventional melt quenching technique from a mixture of Li2CO3, B2O3 and SiO2 powders. The Li ion conductivity of the lithium borosilicate glasses was evaluated in terms of the SiO2/B2O3 ratio. In the Li2O-B2O3-SiO2 ternary glass, the glass forming region decreases with an increasing Li2O content. At the same Li2O, the crystallization tendency of the glass samples increases with the SiO2/B2O3 ratio, resulting in a reduced glass forming region in the Li2O-B2O3-SiO2 ternary glass. The electrical conductivity moderately depends on the SiO2/B2O3 ratio in the Li2O-B2O3-SiO2 ternary glass. The conductivity of the glasses slightly increases with the SiO2/B2O3 ratio. The observed phenomenon can be explained by the modification of the glass structure as a function of the SiO2 content.

Effect of Organic Processing Parameters in Non-aqueous Tape-casting on Dispersion Stability of Barium Titanate-Borosilicate Glass Based Suspensions (비수계 테잎성형공정의 유기공정변수의 변화에 따른 티탄산바륨-붕규산염유리계 현탁액의 분산안정성)

  • The effect of organic processing parameters on the dispersion stability of the BaTiO$_3$-based dielectric particles and borosilicate glass particulate suspensions was investigated in a system where organic solvents, dispersant, binder and modifier were used as processing additives in a low temperature cofired ceramic fabrication processes. Two- and three-component organic solvents were used to disperse ceramic particles and it was found the better stability in the particulate suspension prepared in a bi-solvent, which was consists of toluene and ethanol in a non-azeotropic composition. The addition amount of organic additives had a great impact on dispersion in the present investigation. The flow curves of the suspensions prepared with binder and modifier were fitted according to the power-law equation, which indicates that the internal structure of the suspension could be disturbed under the applied shear stress. Finally, the LTCC green tapes were successfully tape-cast based upon the optimum formulation of LTCC suspension and its microstructure was compared with that of the hard-agglomerates.

Fabrication of $PbTiO_3$ Thin Film by Chemical Vapor Deposition Technique (화학증착법에 의한 $PbTiO_3$ 박막의 재료)

  • The $PbTiO_3$is well known materials having remarkable ferroelectric piezoelectric and pyro-electric properties. Thin films of the lead titanite has been successfully fabricated by Chemical Vapor Deposition on the borosilicate glass and titanium substrate. The $PbTiO_3$ thin film deposited on the borosilicate glass using the $PbCl_2$, $TiCl_4$ dry oxygen and wet oxygen at different temperatures (50$0^{\circ}C$-$700^{\circ}C$) grows along the (001) preferred orientation. On the other hand the $PbTiO_3$ thin film deposited on the titanium substrate using the PbO grows along the (101) preferred orientation. Growth orientation of deposited $PbTiO_3$ depends on the reaction species irrespective of substrate materials. Maximum dielectic constant and loss tangent of the $PbTiO_3$ thin film deposited on the titanium substrate are about 90 and 0.02 respectively, . Deposition rates of $PbTiO_3$ deposited on the borosilicate glass and titanium substrate are 10-15 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$/hr. Titanium dioxide interlayer formed be-tween $PbTiO_3$ film and titanium substrate material, It improved the adhesion of the film.

  • Etch rate, surface roughness and microstructure as plasma resistance were evaluated for six kinds of oxide glass with different compositions. Borosilicate glass (BS) was found to be etched at the highest etch rate and zinc aluminum phosphate glass (ZAP) showed a relatively lower etch rate than borosilicate. On the other hand, the etching rate of calcium aluminosilicate glass (CAS) was measured to be similar to that of sintered alumina while yttrium aluminosilicate glass (YAS) showed the lowest etch rate. Such different etch rates by mixture plasma as a function of glass compositions was dependent on whether or not fluoride compounds were formed on glass and sublimated in high vacuum. Especially, in view that $CaF_2$ and $YF_3$ with high sublimation points were formed on the surface of CAS and YAS glasses, both CAS and YAS glasses were considered to be a good candidate for protective coating materials on the damaged polycrystalline ceramics parts in semi-conductor and display processes.

Blackening of Inner Glass Surface in Fluorescent Lamps for LCD Backlight (LCD 백라이트용 형광램프의 흑화 현상)

  • The different degrees of blackening were observed at the inner surface of borosilicate, soda-lime, and aluminosilicate glass tubes having different sodium (Na) contents. The sodium contents ($Na_2O$) within the borosilicate, soda-lime, and aluminosilicate glass tubes were found to be 4%, 14%, and 0.06%, respectively. The degree of blackening was shown to increase as the sodium content within the glass of the fluorescent lamp containing Ne+Ar+Hg gas mixture. Higher degree of blackening was observed from the inner surface of the glass tube coated with $Y_2O_3$. The blackening was found to be originated from the amalgam of $NaHg_2$ generated by the chemical reaction between the mercury ions within the discharge gas and sodium within the glass tube during operation.

Effect of CaO on the antibacterial property of zinc borosilicate glasses (Zinc borosilicate 유리의 CaO 첨가에 따른 항균력 개선 효과 검증)

  • In this study, antibacterial glasses were developed by the addition of CaO in ZnO-Na2O-B2O3-SiO2 glass system. The effect of the addition of CaO on the thermal properties, dissolution properties, surface zeta potential and antibacterial activity were analyzed. Differential thermal analysis (DTA) analysis was performed to analyze the thermophysical properties of 30ZnO-xCaO-20Na2O-30B2O3-(20-x)SiO2 (x = 0, 2, 4, 6, 8, 10 mol%). It was confirmed that the glass transition temperature decreased as the CaO content increased. The amount of released Zn2+ ions and surface zeta potential of glass samples increased with increasing CaO concentration. For these reasons, the antibacterial activity was dramatically improved. By the addition of CaO, we could successfully develop an antibacterial glass with 99.9 % antibacterial activity against both Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus.

Low dielectric mullite/glass composite (저 유전성 Mullite/Glass 복합체에 관한 연구)

  • Low dielectric Mullite/Glass composites for substrates were fabricated by mullite by synthesized from kaolin and alumina, and borosilicate glass. By the liquid-sintering, the composites were densified at low sintering temperature in air, allowing confiring with Cu, Ag, Au and Ag-Pd. Crystallization of the borosilicate glass was not occurred. The mullite/50 wt% glass composites fired between 950 and $1100^{\circ}C$ showed good properties for high-performed substrate, such as low dielectric constant (5.2~5.4, at 1MHz), low coefficient of thermal expansion (5.3~$5.7{\times}10^{-6}{\cdot}^0C^{-1}$), and bending strength of 130 MPa.

Analysis of Glass Composition on Low k Materials (저유전율 소재에서의 유리조성에 대한 분석)

  • The effect of several $SiO_2-B_2O_3-Al_2O_3$-R(R;Ca, Sr, Ba) borosilicate glass system on sintering behavior, dielectric properties and mechanical properties of glass/ceramic composites were investigated. The amount of '+2 valency' metal elements(Ca, Sr, Ba) were examined in LTCC composite of low k glass with cordierite filler. It was sintered for 60minutes in temperature range from 850C to 950. Properties of frit and glass/ceramic composites were analyzed by DTA, XRD, SEM, Network Analyzer, UTM and so on. Dielectric constant ($\varepsilon_r$) and $Q{\times}f_0$ (Q) of the composite with 50% glass contents demonstrated $\varepsilon_r$ = 5.4 $Q{\times}f_0$ = 1600 GHz. Sintering was complete and maximum bending strength of 160MPa was obtained.
