STUDY ON THE OPTIMAL DESIGN OF A VEHICLE INTAKE SYSTEM USING THE BOOMING NOISE AND THE SOUND QUALITY EVALUATION INDEX

  • In this paper, an index for the evaluation of a vehicle intake booming noise and intake sound quality were developed through a correlation analysis and a multiple factor regression analysis of objective measurement and subjective evaluation data. At first, an intake orifice noise was measured at the wide-open throttle test condition. And then, an acoustic transfer function between intake orifice noise and interior noise at the steady state condition was estimated. Simultaneously, subjective evaluation was carried out with a 10-scale score by 8 intake noise and vibration expert evaluators. Next, the correlation analysis between the psychoacoustic parameters derived from the measured data and the subjective evaluation was performed. The most critical factor was determined and the corresponding index for intake booming noise and sound quality are obtained from the multiple factor regression method. And, the optimal design of intake system was studied using the booming noise and the sound quality evaluation index for expectation performance of intake system. Conclusively, the optimal designing parameters of intake system from noise level and sound quality whose point of view were extracted by adapting comparative weighting between the booming noise and sound quality evaluation index, which optimized the process. These work could be represented guideline to system engineers, designers and test engineers about optimization procedure of system performance by considering both of noise level and sound quality.

  • In automotive engineering, the brand sound is one of the important advantage strategy in a car company. For the design of brand sound, the selection of descriptive word for a car sound is one of major works in automotive sound quality research. In paper, booming sound and rumbling sound, which are professional words used by NVH engineers are used for the design of brand sound. We employed sound metrics which are the subjective parameter used in psychoacoustics. According to most research results, the relationship between subjective evaluations and sound metrics has nonlinear characteristics and is very complex. In order to link these subjective evaluations to sound metrics, the artificial neural network technology has been applied to two-dimensional sound quality index for a passenger car. These indexes is used for 46 passenger cars, which are samples of famous cars in the world. Also the preference in car sounds is evaluated by the trained NVH engineers. We coupled this preference with booming and rumbling sounds by using artificial neural network. In future, the two -dimensional sound index and preference index are very useful fur the development of brand sound in passenger cars.

  • This paper proposes a sound quality index to evaluate the vehicle interior noise. The index was developed using a correlation analysis of an objective measurement and a subjective evaluation data. First, the objective set of measurements was obtained at two specified driving conditions. One is from a wide-open test condition and the other is from a constant-speed test condition. At the same time, subjective evaluation was carried out using a score of ten scale where 17 test engineers participated in the experiment. The correlation analysis between the psycho-acoustic parameters derived from the objective measurement and the subjective evaluation was performed. The most critical factors at both test conditions were determined, and the corresponding equations for the sound quality were obtained from the multiple factor regression method. Finally, a comparative work between previous index and present index was performed to validate the effectiveness of the proposed index.

  • Kenya is a sovereign country with a vast potential in maritime industry. Though Kenya is known to have made it in IMO white list on $14^{TH}$ May 2010, she is making huge investments in maritime industry in an effort to have a share of booming world maritime industry and sea trade. Statistics has it that 90% of trade volume is carried on the sea, which is strong indication that for any country inspiring to be an economic powerhouse it has to have a lion share of sea trade volume, and one of the proven ways in gaining economic success is by investing heavily in maritime infrastructure. The purpose of this paper is to give a brief description of marine traffic status in port of Mombasa which is the largest port in Kenya, highlight vital features of multi-billion Lamu port investment under taken by the Kenyan government and finally discuss the future of maritime industry and Kenyan seafarer.

  • The Ratio of APT jeonse to purchase price was still rising. The interaction of APT Purchase and Jeonse price indices by region analysis in order to analyze this phenomenon, and results were summarized as follows. First, because the regional APT purchase and jeonse prices appears the rise and fall differently by region, regional polarization was deepening. Second, the recently real estate market was analyzed the province's booming real estate and the downturn of the metropolitan area. So, the ratio of APT jeonse to purchase price was continued to rise. Finally, the Ratio of APT jeonse to purchase price changing rate is (+) increased if the APT purchase price changing rate is larger then the APT purchase price changing rate and smaller then is (-) decreased.
