Modeling of bond behavior of hybrid rods for concrete reinforcement

  • Fiber reinforced plastic (FRP) rods are used as reinforcement (prestressed or not) to concrete. FRP composites can also be combined with steel to form hybrid reinforcing rods that take advantage of the properties of both materials. In order to effectively utilize these rods, their bond behavior with concrete must be understood. The objective of this study is to characterize and model the bond behavior of hybrid FRP rods made with epoxy-impregnated aramid or poly-vinyl alcohol FRP skins directly braided onto a steel core. The model closely examines the split failure of the concrete by quantifying the relationship between slip of the rods resulting transverse stress field in concrete. The model is used to derive coefficients of friction for these rods and, from these, their development length requirements. More testing is needed to confirm this model, but in the interim, it may serve as a design aide, allowing intelligent decisions regarding concrete cover and development length. As such, this model has helped to explain and predict some experimental data from concentric pull-out tests of hybrid FRP rods.

  • This research intends to investigate the progress made in East Asian bond market integration thus far. Price-based measures (AAD indicator and beta-convergence measure), quantity-based measures and econometric techniques (co-integration test, error correction model based Granger causality test) are employed in the analysis. Even though East Asian government bond markets have become more integrated since 2001, the differentials among the markets still remain significantly high. The bond market integration process seems slow. The convergence of bond markets sped up in 2003 and after the 2008 world financial crisis, implying the important role of government policies in integrating the regional bond markets. East Asian bond market integration may need more government-directed measures.

Effect of bond slip on the performance of FRP reinforced concrete columns under eccentric loading

  • Concrete reinforced with fiber reinforced polymer (FRP) bars (FRP-RC) has attracted a significant amount of research attention in the last three decades. A limited number of studies, however, have investigated the effect of bond slip on the performance of FRP-RC columns under eccentric loading. Based on previous experimental study, a finite-element model of eccentrically loaded FRP-RC columns was established in this study. The bondslip behavior was modeled by inserting spring elements between FRP bars and concrete. The improved Bertero-Popov-Eligehausen (BPE) bond slip model with the results of existing FRP-RC pullout tests was introduced. The effect of bond slip on the entire compression-bending process of FRP-RC columns was investigated parametrically. The results show that the initial stiffness of bond slip is the most sensitive parameter affecting the compression-bending performance of columns. The peak bond stress and the corresponding peak slip produce a small effect on the maximum loading capacity of columns. The bondslip softening has little effect on the compression-bending performance of columns. The sectional analysis revealed that, as the load eccentricity and the FRP bar diameter increase, the reducing effect of bond slip on the flexural capacity becomes more obvious. With regard to bond slip, the axial-force-bending-moment (P-M) interaction diagrams of columns with different FRP bar diameters show consistent trends. It can be concluded from this study that for columns reinforced with large diameter FRP bars, the flexural capacity of columns at low axial load levels will be seriously overestimated if the bond slip is not considered.

  • An experimental investigation to determine the transfer length of a seven-wire prestressing strand in different concretes is presented in this paper. A testing technique based on the analysis of bond behaviour by means of measuring the force supported by the prestressing strand on a series of specimens with different embedment lengths has been used. An analytical bond model to calculate the transfer length from an inelastic bond stress distribution along the transfer length has been obtained. A relationship between the plastic bond stress for transfer length and the concrete compressive strength at the time of prestress transfer has been found. An equation to predict the average and both the lower bound and the upper bound values of transfer length is proposed. The experimental results have not only been compared with the theoretical prediction from proposed equations in the literature, but also with experimental results obtained by several researchers.

  • 최근에 상용 FRP 판(plank)을 콘크리트 구조물의 영구 거푸집 및 보강재로 이용하기 위한 연구가 진행되고 있다. FRP 판과 타설 콘크리트가 합성효과를 발휘하기 위해서는 두 재료간의 부착이 중요한 요인 중의 하나이다. 이러한 부착을 확보하기 위하여 FRP 판에 모래를 일반적으로 건설현장에서 많이 사용하는 에폭시를 이용하여 부착하였다. FRP 판과 콘크리트 합성구조의 구조적 거동을 이해하기 위해서는 FRP판과 타설 콘크리트 사이의 정량적인 국부 부착모델이 필요하다. 본 연구에서는 이와 같은 합성구조 시스템에 간단히 적용할 수 있는 단순 부착모델을 제안한다.

Effects of the Magnetic Part of The Breit Term on Bonding: Model Calculations with Small Diatomic Molecules

  • Model calculations for small molecules Li2, F2, LiF and BF have been performed at the Dirac-Fock level of theory using Dirac-Coulomb and Dirac-Coulomb-Magnetic Hamiltonians with various basis sets. In order to understand what may happen when the relativity becomes significant, the value of c, speed of light, is varied from the true value of 137.036 a.u. to 105 (nonrelativistic case) and also to 50 and 20 a.u. (exaggerated relativistic cases). Qualitative trends are discussed with special emphasis on the effect of the magnetic part of the Breit interaction term. The known relativistic effects on bonding such as the bond length contraction or expansion are demonstrated in this model study. Total energy, $\pi-orbital$ splitting, bond length, bond dissociation energy and dipole moment are calculated, and shown to be modified in a uniform direction by the effect of the magnetic term. Inclusion of the magnetic term raises the total energy, increases the bond length, reduces the $\pi-orbital$ splitting, increases the bond dissociation energy, and mitigates the changes in dipole moment caused by the Dirac term.

Implementation of bond-slip effects on behaviour of slabs in structures

  • Employing discrete elements for considering bond-slip effects in reinforced concrete structures is very time consuming. In this study, a new modified embedded element method is used to consider the bond-slip phenomenon in structural behavior of reinforced concrete structures. A comprehensive parametric study of RC slabs is performed to determine influence of different variables on structural behavior. The parametric study includes a set of simple models accompanied with complex models such as multi-storey buildings. The procedure includes the decrease in the effective stiffness of steel bar in the layered model. Validation of the proposed model with existing experimental results demonstrates that the model is capable of considering the bond-slip effects in embedded elements. Results demonstrate the significant effect of bond-slip on total behavior of structural members. Concrete characteristic strengths, steel yield stress, bar diameter, concrete coverage and reinforcement ratios are the parameters considered in the parametric study. Results revealed that the overall behavior of slab is significantly affected by bar diameter compared with other parameters. Variation of steel yield stress has insignificant impact in static response of RC slabs; however, its effect in cyclic behavior is important.

  • Lightweight design, safety, vibration, energy absorption capability can no longer achieve without adhesive bond joint. Base on those concepts and cost reduction, adhesive bond FEM model development has been done. The FEM analysis and experiments were conducted in this study. Crash condition is 143 Kg Hammer weight and unit meter Height. and then These test results were used to develop resonable FEM model. To estimate which FEM model is resonable, compare hybrid joint specimen experiment results with FEM analysis results. Conclusively this study achieves optimization bonding model related crash and adhesive bond jointed hat profile crash characters.

블록체인을 활용한 국민주택채권 정보 중계시스템 개선방안 연구 (A Study on Improvement of Housing Bond Information Relay System Using Blockchain)

  • 국민주택채권 정보 중계시스템은 관련된 여러 기관들이 중계센터를 중심으로 연결된 대표적인 금융정보 중계시스템이다. 이러한 중앙 집중형 구조는 중계센터 구축 및 운영에 막대한 비용이 소요되고, 센터시스템에 장애나 사고가 발생할 경우 모든 네트워크가 단절되는 문제점이 존재한다. 본 논문에서는 블록체인 기술을 활용하여 안전하고 효율적으로 정보를 처리할 수 있는 블록체인 기반의 국민주택채권 정보 중계시스템 모델을 제안한다. 제안 모델은 국민주택채권 정보를 처리하는 각 기관들이 안전하게 정보를 전송할 수 있도록 블록체인 네트워크를 구성하고, 스마트 컨트랙트 기반의 분산 어플리케이션으로 동일한 분산원장을 관리한다. 제안 모델은 중계센터 없이 복잡한 국민주택채권 거래 정보를 처리할 수 있어 비용을 절감할 수 있으며 기존 시스템 대비 네트워크 사용률의 1.7%, 디스크 사용률의 8.53%의 개선 효과가 있다.
