Until now, evaluating the efficacy of brightening mainly depends on total reflective light measurement. For example, SHV (Saturation, Hue, Value), $L^*$$a^*$$b^*$ (CIELAB color space system) color space system was used and lightness and saturation changes were chosen as major parameters for evaluating brightening effect. However, those parameters were calculated from total reflective light on the skin and it is hard to evaluate perceptive efficacy such as luminescence, and glossy. In this research, we applied new method for estimating change of luminescence of skin by using 'Lumiscan' which uses polarized light for detecting surface and inside reflective light independently. We also tested 15 different parameters for finding correlations between luminescence and those parameters. As a results, our 2 different brightening products showed 5 ~ 9 % increase of luminescence at 4 and 8 weeks. And we also found that skin roughness (-28 %), melanin index (-17 %), redness (-7 %), hydration (15 %), and lightness (6 %) were related to luminescence of skin.
To understand the status of the migrating Oriental Honey Buzzard(Pernis ptilorhynchus) in Korea, we carried out a preliminary study on the number and local movements of the Honey Buzzard from September 2005 to October 2007 at Hongdo Island, Jeonnam Province, Korea. A total of 702 Honey Buzzards in 2005, 404 individuals in 2006, and 659 individuals in 2007 were recorded during the fall migration season, but during the spring migration season only two and eight birds were observed in 2006 and 2007 respectively. The migrating Honey Buzzard showed peak numbers from 20 September to 5 October at the study site. According to observation of arrival time of538 Honey Buzzard in October 2007, a total of 2l6 birds(40.l %) were passing over Hongdo Island between 7:00 AM to 8:00 AM, rising skyward on columns of warm air. This suggests the use of thermal currents and avoidance of nocturnal movement for crossing water. They preferred moderate winds(<5 m/s in speed) from northwest, but the migrating number apparently decreased in case of strong winds (${\geqq}5 m/s$). This suggests that wind speed and direction are important environmental factors for migration of the Oriental Honey Buzzard. At present, it is unclear which breeding population(from north-eastern China or Japan) passes over Hongdo Island. Moreover, it is difficult to prove migration route and to understand migratory behaviors of the Oriental Honey Buzzard in Korea. To prove the breeding sites and routes of the migrants over the study site, we need more detailed and further studies such as satellite tracking researches.

Some factors affecting the protoplast release from mycelia of Ganoderma lucidum and regeneration of the protoplast were investigated and the results obtained are summarized as follows; Novozym 234 as a lytic enzyme was the most effective for the protoplast release from mycelia of Ganoderma lucidu m and its optimal concentration was 10mg per ml of osmotic stabilizer. The highest number of protoplasts were released after 3 hours incubation in the reciprocal shaking bath at 120 oscillations a minute. Among six osmotic stabilizers tested, 0.6M sucrose showed the best result. SCM medium showed good mycelial growth and high yields of protoplasts. The protoplasts released from the mycelium of G. lucidum were regenerated at 0.20 to 0.27 percent on MCM, MMM and SCM. Of the cultures obtained from protoplasts regenerated, 13 to 29 percent were monokaryon.
Effects of salt concentrations on the cell growth and the pigment accumulation were investigated in cell suspension culture of Vitis vinifera and Phytolacca americana L.. The growth pattern of vine cell in control was showed the normal exponential growth pattern, but in the dilution media delay the exponential growth pattern from 4 to 8 days after culture. Maximal accumulation of anthocyanin was observed at 12 days after culture in all treatments. In cell suspension culture of Phytolacca, accumulation of betacyanin occurred in parallel with the cell growth pattern and maximal accumulation of betacyanin was observed after 8 days of culture. In the vine cell culture, the cell growth was showed the peak at 87.6mM of sucrose in the medium and reduced at over this concentration. Maximal anthocyanin accumulation was showed at 146mM of sucrose. In the higher concentrations of sucrose, the cell growth was rapidly decreased, but the accumulation of anthocyanin was not. Otherwise, in case of Phytolacca cell culture, betacyanin accumulation was showed in parallel with the cell growth increased with sucrose concentration. It was suggested that the anthocyanin of vine and the betacyanin of Phytolacca were controlled by different mechanisms.
This study was performed to investigate physicochemical and textural characteristics, and antimicrobial effect for Listeria monocytogenes (LM) in low-fat functional sausages (LFFS) containing sodium lactate (SL) and potassium lactate (PL) during storage at 4℃ for 10 weeks. The LFFS treatments included CTL (Low-fat sausage control), TRT1 (SL 3.3%), TRT2 (SL 2.2% + PL 1.1%), TRT3 (SL 1.1% + PL 2.2%), TRT4 (PL 3.3%). Proximate composition for LFFS were 73.9∼75.2% moisture, 1∼2% fat and 15.5∼15.9% protein, and pH values ranged from 5.8 to 6.5. Expressible moisture (EM, %) and vacuum purge (VP, %) ranged from 22.9 to 33.0 and from 2.7 to 5.3, respectively. EM of CTL, TRT1 and TRT2 increased with increased storage time, however, no differences in VP were observed during storage time. Hunter color values (L, a, b) were not affected by the addition of SL and PL, and storage time (p>0.05). Most textural properties of LFFS were not affected by the addition of SL and PL, except for few cases, but those of CTL tended to increase with increased storage time. The addition of SL and PL into LFFS, alone or in combination, inhibited the microbial growth of inoculated LM during refrigerated storage, resulting in longer shelf-life than the control.

A toxicological study of the pesticides for rice paddy to loach was conducted with iprobenfos 17% GR, diazinon 3 % GR, and butachlor 5 % GR to establish the field test method and their toxicological effects on loach under the actual field conditions. The type C of cage was more effective in the sense of a little stress from the cage. The nets for shading and for preventing the birds were necessary to maintain the water temperature and to prevent the predators. The cumulative mortality of loach exposed to iprobenfos 17% GR, diazinon 3% GR and butachlor 5% GR were 10, 55 and 22%, respectively, during 7 days of exposure. The averaged concentration of the pesticides in paddy water 2 days after application were 1.67, 0.22 and 0.26 mg/L, and mortalities were 7, 50 and 17%, respectively, representing the similar results with acute toxicity $(48h-LC_{50})$.

This study collected 120 figs, classified them into six degrees of maturity according to hardness values, and analyzed contents of organic acids and free sugars. Volatile compounds in figs were investigated using the solid-phase microextraction method of gas chromatography/mass spectrometry. For measurement of texture, elasticity increased up to stage 4 and decreased again. Cohesiveness and brittleness increased with maturation. Organic acids in figs were mainly composed of citric acid, malic acid, and tartaric acid in the final stage. Fructose and glucose were the major sugar components of figs. Fructose content decreased from stage 1 to stage 4 and then increased significantly. One hundred and nineteen volatile compounds were identified in figs, and classes were 14 acids, 15 alcohols, 23 aldehydes, 10 esters, 33 hydrocarbons, 11 ketones, four aromatics, six miscellaneous, and five terpenes. The dominant volatile components in figs were hexadecanoic acid, hexane, dodecanal, DL-limonene, 2-hexanal, nonanal, and 6-methyl-5-hepten-2-one.
The objective of the present study was to investigate the uptake process of 4-Phenylazobenzoxycarbonyl-Pro-Leu-Gly-Pro-D-Arg (Pz-peptide), a hydrophilic and collagenase-labile pentapeptide, by isolated hepatocytes. For comparison, the uptake of Pz-peptide by Caco-2 cells and colonic cells, two known paracellular routes of Pz-peptide, was also evaluated. A simple and sensitive reversed-phase HPLC assay method using UV detection has been developed. The coefficient of variation for all the criteria of validation were less than 15%. The method was, therefore, considered to be sutable for measuring the concentration of Pz-peptide in the biological cells. Pz-peptide was extensively uptaked into hepatocytes. The initial velocity of Pz-peptide uptake assessed from the initial slope of the curve was plotted as Eadie-Hofstee plots. The maximum velocity ($V_{max}$) and the Michaelis constant ($K_m$) were 0.190$\pm$0.020 $nmol/min/10^6$ cells and 12.1$\pm$3.23 $\mu$M, respectively. The permeability-surface area product ($PS{influx}$) was calculated to be 0.0157 ml/min/10^6$ cells. $V_{max}$ and $K_m$ values for Caco-2 cells were calculated to be 6.22$\pm$0.930 pmol/min/10^6$ cells and 82.8$\pm$8.37 $\mu$M, respectively, being comparable with those of colonocytes (6.04$\pm$1.03 pmol/min/10^6$ cells and 87.8$\pm$13.2 $\mu$M, respectively). $PS_{influx}$ values for Caco-2 cells and colonocytes were calculated to be 0.0751 $\mu$l/min/10^6$ cells and 0.0688 $\mu$l/min/10^6$ cells, respectively. The more pronounced uptake of Pz-peptide by hepatocytes, when compared with Caco-2 cells and colonocytes, is probably due to its specific transporter. In conclusion, Pz-peptide, a paracellularly transported pentapeptide in the intestine and ocular epithelia, was uptaked into hepatocytes extensively. Although Pz-peptide is able to be uptaked into the Caco-2 cells and colonocytes, it is less pronounced when compared with hepatocytes. $PS_{influx}$ values of Caco-2 cells and colonocytes for unbound Pz-peptide under linear conditions were less than 0.4% when compared with that of hepatocytes.
The wastes ot l~mestone mines have been cause the extrar.ngance of the valuablz m e r a l s and destruction of the environment. Therefore, \\-c tied ta separation of calcite illid clay from the limestone mine wastes by rotntmg screen type separator made by ourselves in order to recyding such us a raw matcriala for cement maimfacture. CaO amtents in the separated coarse products increased from 37.36 wt% to 42+2 wt% at the condition ihat water content in wastes was lzss than 6wt%, the passing time of specimen in &amber was 15 semnds and the rotation speed was 6OLl qm. A process in order lo separate wastes effectively to having wide range aI part~dcs ize was cstablishcd and CaO contents of coarsc products through this process increased to 46.85 wt%. Tbis rcsult is insuEiicient to directly rcusing as a raw malerials for cement. However, it is supposed that coarse products would be able to be reuscd as a raw materials uf cement, if only it rs sclected dolomite in wastes, and really it may be possible in fields Othenvise, undcrsize products(less than 20 mm) would be able to recycling as a raw of cement bccause chcmicrl campasitions of thosc is kept almost constant v&cs on the overall process.
