Approximately 10 percent of advanced stomach cancer patients have internal bleeding in their stomach. It is crucial to treat internal bleeding since it severely deteriorates patient's condition, and disturbs process of chemotherapy. There are hemostatic agents and dressing, radiotherapy, endoscopic ligation and coagulation, surgical methods to treat bleeding. However, these methods cannot be executed in some cases in which patient is in terminal stage or not in desirable condition to take these treatments. We are going to introduce a case of advanced gastric cancer patient having stomach bleeding who made a choice to take oriental medical treatments. The patient was on third stage of stomach cancer, had 3200cc of blood transfusion for five times. After diagnosed as not being able to have resection, he started to oriental medical treatments to stop bleeding. From March 28, 2009 to April 16, 2009, we administer 120cc Bojungikgi-tang gamibang to the patient in 90minutes after each meal. During 19days of having Bojungikgi-tang gamibang, we observed that the patient needed significantly lower amount blood transfusion, to 640cc. The patient improves in performance, and was able to eat more. Despite of short period of observation, this case indicates that Bojungikgi-tang gamibang treatment to the patient could work as hemostat, further improved quality of patient's life.

Objectives : The purpose of this study is to report a case of verruca vulgaris patient, treated only with Korean medicine. Methods : A 6-years-old female patient was treated only with Korean medicine due to verruca vulgaris on left hand. Photographs and size measurements of lesions were used to evaluate the changes in symptoms. Results : After 3 months of treatment, the patient's lesions showed almost complete clearance and there were no adverse effects. Conclusions : According to the results, Korean medicine with Bojungikgi-tang Hab Saengmaek-san Gamibang could be an effective and safe treatment for verruca vulgaris in a pediatric patient.

Objectives : The purpose of this study is to analyze the use of herbal medicine as a treatment method in the case studies on warts in Korea, to identify trends in herbal medicines and herbal prescriptions according to the characteristics of individual patients and to systematically analyze concurrent therapies. Methods : Domestic databases (OASIS, RISS, NDSL, KTKP, KISS, KISTI, KISTI) were used to search for case studies related to the herbal medicine treatment of warts. There was no restriction on the time of publication. A total of 9 papers were selected. Results : A total of 13 prescriptions were presented 23 times in 18 cases. Among them, bojungikgi-tang gamibang(補中益氣湯加減方) was the most frequently prescribed. Gwakhyangjeonggi-san gamibang(藿香正氣散加減方) and Damsoeun-tang gagam were the next most frequently prescribed. 69 herbs were used in a total of 13 prescriptions. Herbs were commonly classified as heat-clearing medicine(淸熱藥), exterior-releasing medicine(解表藥), and tonifying and replenishing medicine(補益藥) in descending order. The herbs used more than 6 times included Coicis Semen(薏苡仁), Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma(甘草) (10 times), Bupleuri Radix(柴胡), and Scutellariae Radix(黃芩) (6 times). Concurrent therapies were performed except for 1 study, and they were acupuncture, moxibustion, pharmacopuncture, external agents, and cupping therapy. Conclusions : This is the first study to analyze the use of herbal medicine as a treatment method for warts in case studies performed in Korea. We hope that this study would give helpful information about the treatment of warts in clinical practices.

Objective: This study reports on traditional Korean medicine therapy used for pneumonia among elderly patients.Method: Two patients diagnosed with pneumonia were treated with herbal medicine and acupuncture, as well as cupping along the back. We checked chest X-rays, coughing and sputum on the visual analogue scale (VAS), and lab evaluations in order to evaluate the effectiveness of the treatment.Results: Following treatment with traditional Korean medicine therapy, VAS scores for coughing and sputum decreased and the chest X-rays and inflammation markers improved.Conclusion: Traditional Korean medicine therapy treatment appears to be effective for treating pneumonia in elderly patients.

We report a case of an 85-year old man with an adenocarcinoma of the rectosigmoid colon (clinical stage II). Though tumor was resectable, the patient was considered to be inoperable because of old age and comorbidities such as asthma, diabetes and old myocardial infarction. He wanted to receive alternative care, so he was exclusively treated with standardized Allegern-removed Rhus verniciflua Stokes (aRVS) extract and other herbal medicine such as BOJUNGIKGI-TANG GAMIBANG. During 18 months, he has shown good performance status without transfusion. This report suggests that herbal treatment including standardized aRVS for rectosigmoid colon cancer could be an alternative treatment option when it is unabled to be treated by surgical resection.
