  • The automated chemical analysis shop floor are developed for the environmental pollution problems in our chemical analysis center. This shop floor have the several equipments include weight, pour, dry, heater, boiler, mixture, spectroscopy etc. And the material handling components are made up by the stored stack, conveyore, turntables, robot etc. Computer simulation has been an important tool for these complete design problem. We have designed the arangement of chemical equipments and material flow systems by using the simulator "AutoModII". "AutoMoII" is one of the advanced simulator, CAD-like drawing tools with a powerful, engineering oriented language to model control logic and material flow. The result is the modeling of the chemical analysis system in accurate, three dimensional detail. We could designed the set able layout and scheduling system by using the AutoMoII simulator.   • The residential Fuel Cell system has high efficiency of 85% with transferring natural gas to electrical power and heat, directly and it is a friendly environmental new technology in that $CO_2$ emission can reduce 40% compared with conventional power generator and boiler. The residential fuel cell system consists of two main parts which have electrical and hot storage units. The electrical unit contains a fuel processor, a stack, an inverter, a control unit and balance of plant(BOP), and the cogeneration unit has heat exchanger, hot water tank, and auxiliaries. 5kW class fuel process was developed and tested from 2009, it was evaluated for long-term durability and reliability test including with improvement in optimal operation logic. Stack development was crried out through improvement of design and evaluation protocol. Development of system controller was successfully accomplished through strenuous efforts and original control logic was optimized in 5kW class PEMFC system. In addition, we have been focused on development of system process and assembly technology, which bring about excellent improvement of reliability of system. The 5kW class PEMFC system was operated under dynamic conditions for 1,000 hours and it showed a good performance of total efficiency and durability.

Study on the Exhaust Heat Recovery Equipment in a Factory - On the Performance of a U-shape Multitube Heat Exchanger - (공장폐열(工場廢熱) 회수장치(回收裝置)에 관한 연구(硏究) -U자형(字型) 다관식(多管式) 열교환기(熱交換機)의 성능(性能)에 관하여-)

  • U shape multitube heat exchanger was equipped in the flue to recover the exhaust heat from the boiler system. The fluids of the exhaust heat recovery equipment were the flue gas as the hot fluid, and the water as the cold fluid. The flow geometry of the fluids was cross flow - two pass, the hot fluid being mixed and the cold fluid unmixed. The results of the theoretical and the experimental analysis and the economic evaluation are summarized as follows. 1) The heat exchanger effectiveness and the temperature efficiency of the hot fluid were about 35% when the fuel consumption rate was 140 - 150 L/15min. The temperature efficiency for the cold fluid ranged from 3.0% to 4.5%. The insulation efficiency ranged from 85% to 98%, which was better than the KS air preheater insulation efficiency of 90%. 2) The relationship between the fuel consumption rate, F, and the outlet temperature, $T_{h2}$, of the flue gas from the heat exchanger was $T_{h2}$ = 0.927F + 110. In order to prevent the low temperature corrosion from the coagulation of $SO_3$, it is necessary to maintain the fuel consumption rate above 82 L/15min. 3) The ratio of the exhaust heat from the boiler system to the total energy consumption was about 14.5%. With the installation of the exhaust heat recovery equipment, the energy recovery ratio to the exhaust heat was about 25%. Accordingly, about 3.6% of the total fuel consumption was estimated to be saved. 4) Economic analysis indicated that the installation of the exhaust heat recovery equipment was feasible to save the energy, because the capital reocvery period was only 10 months when the fuel consumption rate was 80 L/15min. 4 months when it was 160 L/15min. 5) Based on the theoretical and the experimental analysis, it was estimated to save the energy of about 18 million Won per year, if four heat exchangers are installed in a factory. 6) A further study is recommended to identify the relationship among the flow rate of the exhaust gas, the size of the heat exchanger and the capacity of the air preheater. For a maximum heat recovery from the exhaust gas an automatic control system is required to control the flow rate of the cold fluid depending on the boiler load.

  • This paper describes a modelling method for SCR(selective catalystic reduction) system in refuse incineration plant. We consider the SCR system as a single input and single output system. For modelling the SCR system, an auto regressive exogeneous(ARX) modelling method is used. In this case, we should design the white noise input for modelling and put it on the system as an input$(NH_3)$, and take an outlet NOx as an output. From these two relations, we design the ARX model with 45 second delay time and transform to a discrete system with sampling time of 0.5 second. Using the obtained SCR model, we verify that the outlet NOx is deeply related with stoker`s moving in boiler of refuse incineration plant.

  • In this paper, we design the fuzzy logic controller(FLC) for a nonlinear multivariable steam generating unit. Based on the knowledges of operator, the self-organizing controller(SOC) - a kind of FLC - is developed and tested. Both FLC and SOC based on linguistic rules have the advantages of not needing of some exact mathematical model for plant to be controlled. Beside, the SOC modifies the existing control rules by monitoring the control performance. The computer simulations have been carried out for the 200MW steam generating unit to show the usefulness of the proposed method and the effects of disturbances and parameter variations are considered.

Estimation Technique of Volatile Hazardous Air Pollutants(HAPs) Emitted from Petroleum Industrial Process/Equipment (석유정제산업 공정과 공정장비에 기인한 휘발성 유해 대기오염물질(HAPs)의 배출량 산정기법)

  • Petroleum refineries have been considered as an important emission source for atmospheric volatile hazardous air pollutants(HAPs). The emission source includes petroleum refinery processes and process equipment. The control strategy for volatile HAPs requires emission estimations of these pollutants. However, systematic methods of volatile HAPs emission from petroleum refineries have not yet been established. Accordingly, present study surveyed the estimation method of volatile HAPs emitted from the petroleum refinery processes and process equipment. The emission estimation methods for the petroleum refinery processes are applied for 11 petroleum refining facilities: fluidized catalytic cracking, thermal cracking, moving bed catalytic cracking, compressed engine, blowdown system, vacuum distilled column condensator, natural gas or distilled boiler, natural gas or distilled heater, oil boiler, oil heater and flare. Four emission estimation methods applied for the petroleum refinery process equipment are as follows: average emission factor approach, screening ranges approach, EPA correlation approach and unit-specific correlation approach. The process equipment for which emission factors are available are valves, pump seals, connectors, flanges and open-ended lines.

  • The improvement of load following operation of the thermal power plant is influenced to the electrical quality. Analysis of boiler, turbine, and governor system, and the study of control algorithm are necessarily preceded. The thermal power plant is operated by various control systems. In the case of faulty governor system, it takes long days to solve the problem and impossible to repair the mechanism without outage. A non-planned outage is taken into consideration because of economical power production. The paper introduces the followings; In case of system-frequency drop during long term, at 500MW thermal power plant, the generator output was drop. To clear this problem, the control logic is modified with analysis of trend and control algorithm. As a result system frequency drop is prevented during the long tenn and the electric grid operation is improved.

  • A graphic display and operator console system is developed for monitoring the operation of power plant. It has multiprocessor structure using VME bus and common memory. The graphic monitoring system is applied to fault tolerant control system for enhancing reliability of boiler analog controller. As a result, it displays all the operating date as color graphic images with 14 pages. Moreover, it can transfer the operator commands to the other micro-processors through common memory.

  • Carbon neutrality policies have been strengthened to reduce emissions, and the importance of technology road maps has been emphasized. In the global industrial boiler market, carbon neutrality is implemented through fuel diversification of methane-hydrogen mixture gas. However, various problems such as flashback and flame unstability arise. There is a limit to implementing the actual system as it remains in the early stage. Therefore, it is necessary to secure the source technology of methane-hydrogen hybrid combustion system applicable to industrial fields. In this study, control program for methane-hydrogen fuel conversion was developed to expect various parameters. After determining the hydrogen mixing ratio and the input air flow, the fuel conversion control algorithm was constructed to get the parameters that achieve the target oxygen concentration in the exhaust gas. LabVIEW program was used to derive correlations among hydrogen mixing rate, oxygen concentration in exhaust gas, input amount of air and heating value.

  • This paper introduces the Performance Monitoring System(PMS) in a thermal power plant. The purpose of the PMS is to offer the operator current performance information of plant which could be an index of plant status or information to improve plant efficiency. The PMS of Bukcheju thermal power plant unit #2&3 is implemented under the SIEMENS DCS which supplies about 150 function blocks for performance calculation and all measured signals. The performance of unit, boiler, turbines, feedwater heaters, condenser, airpreheaters, feedwater pumps will be monitored and updated for every 5 minutes in PMS of Bukcheju TPP.
