Experimental Study on Thermal Characteristics of Heat Exchanger Modules for Multi Burner Boiler (멀티버너 보일러용 열교환기 모듈 특성 시험 - 모듈 순서에 따른 특성결과 -)

  • We develop a heat exchanger modules for a multi-burner boiler. The heat exchanger module is kind of a heat recovery steam generator (HRSG). This heat recovery system has 4 heat exchanger modules. The 1st module consists of 27 bare tubes due to high temperature exhaust gas and the others consist of 27 finned tubes. The maximum steam pressure of each module is 1 MPa and tested steam pressure is 0.7 MPa. In order to test these heat exchanger modules, we make a 0.5t/h flue tube boiler (LNG, $40\;Nm^3/h$). We tested the heat exchanger module with changing the position of each heat exchanger module. We measured the inlet and outlet temperature of each heat exchanger module and calculated the heat exchange rate. The results show that if module C is placed at second stage (the 1st stage is always module O, bare tube module), there is no need to attach an additional heat exchanger module. In this case the exit temperature of module C is low enough to enter an economizer which is more effective in heat recovery than a heat exchanger module.

  • We develop heat exchanger modules for a multi-burner boiler. The heat exchanger module is kind of a heat recovery steam generator (HRSG). This heat recovery system has 4 heat exchanger modules. The 1st module consists of 27 bare tubes due to high temperature exhaust gas and the others consist of 27 finned tubes. The maximum steam pressure of each module is 10 bar and tested steam pressure is 4 bar. In order to test these heat exchanger modules, we make a 0.5t/h flue tube boiler (LNG, $40\;Nm^3/h$). The test results of 100% boiler load show that heat transfer rate of 1st module is 49.7 Mcal/h which is 34% of total heat transfer rate and that of 2nd module is 82.6 Mcal/h which is 57% of total heat transfer rate. The reason of higher the heat transfer rate of 2nd module than that of 1st module is that the 2nd heat exchanger module has finned tubes instead of bare tube. The boiler load 50% results show that only 2 heat exchanger modules are needed to extract the heat from the flue gas to water. From this result, it is very important of optimum design of the first finned tube among all water tubes.

  • Finite element analysis was carried out to investigate the integrity and reliability of boiler module during sea transportation. The boiler module was supported by steel structure to relieve the instantaneous shock from oceanic wave and its primary parts were strengthened with several reinforcements. Finned tube walls which were used in the furnace wall were assumed as orthotropic plates having equivalent material properties. The bank tubes were also equivalently modeled in accordance with ASME B31.1 for the convenience of finite element modeling. The calculation results were compared with the yield stress of the material. In particular, the bank tube stress, which was evaluated by converting the calculated stresses in equivalent tubes into those in original tubes by using the ratio of diameter, was also examined with yield stress.

  • The focus of this paper is to implement of virtual plant using module concept for the dynamic simulation of drum type boiler and to simulate the control trends of dynamic characteristics. MAtlab & Simulink is used for implement virtual plant & analyzation the dynamics & control trends. They are available for analyzing the dynamic characteristics of drum type Boiler by means of applying well measured data to virtual plant.

  • In this paper, a fuzzy expert system is developed for fault diagnoisis of a drum-type boiler system in fossil power plants. The develped fuzzy espert system is composed of knowledge base, fuzzification module, knowledge base process module, knowledge base management module, inference module, and linguistic approximation module. The main objective of the fuzzy expert system is to check the states of the system including the drum level and detect faults such as the feedwater flow sensor fault, feedwater flow control valve fault, and water wall bube rupture. The fuzzy expert system diagnoses faults using process values, manipulated values, and knowledge base which is built via interviews and questionaries with the experts on the plant operations. Finally, the validity of the developed fuzzy expert system is shown via experiments using the digital simulator for boiler system is Seoul Power Plant Unit 4.

  • A finned tube type heat exchange module has been proposed for a multi-burner water tube boiler. Fin density and length increase in streamwise direction to equalize the evaporation for each module, which makes it difficult to apply conventional bulk design procedure. The design program has been improved by updating data for every row of tubes along the flow. A numerical simulation has been also conducted to evaluate the effect of inlet conditions and validated with experiment. The heat transfer of the first row has been underpredicted by the conventional Zhukauskas correlation, since the acceleration of the flow due to the blockage is not fully inflected. The fin tip temperature is also underpredicted by Bessel solution, because of the interaction with neighboring fins.

  • In order to increase design efficiency, it is required to design steam boiler pressure parts systematically considering daily start-stop operation and load variation. The objective of this research is to develope an integrated system for increasing design efficiency of boiler pressure parts. The developed system consists of three program modules: (1) flexibility design module for the header stub considering fatigue life, (2) fatigue limit calculation and life evaluation module for the thick-walled boiler pressure part under cyclic operation using TRD301 code, (3) drawing automation module for the header and drum producing design drawings, welding data and bill of materials.

  • A finned-tube-type evaporator module has been proposed for a 2 t/h-class water-tube-type industrial boiler with multiple burners. The geometry of the fins was changed at each module to equalize the evaporation. The modules were designed by considering the energy balance at each row rather than by following a conventional bulk design procedure. The designed module was built into a 2 t/h-class water-tube-type boiler, and its performance was tested. A numerical simulation was also conducted to evaluate the two- or three-dimensional effects of factors such as the inlet conditions. The numerical simulation also included the conjugate heat transfer problem to predict the fin tip temperature. The heat transfer coefficient with fins is lower than that obtained from the empirical correlation of a bare tube. The fin tip temperature from CFD is higher than that from the analytical solution.

A Study on the Development of a pub level Silica Measuring Technology by the Split-beam Type System (스플리트빔 형태의 고정도 단위 실리카 측정기술 개발에 관한 연구)

  • Dissolved silica is one of fatal components at a boiler facility Therefore, a dissolved silica measurement system should be equipped for managing efficiently the boiler facility. Most of silica measurement systems are composed of a sensor module of single-beam type structure, and silica density is measured with a infrared spectrometry using the Lambert-beer method. However, such a system occurs measuring error of large range and inconsistency of a light source, because of measuring a standard sample and a measuring sample alternatively. This paper introduces a method that the sensor module has a split-beam type structure and a tungsten lamp. The proposed system can measure silica density quickly and precisely more than those composing of a single-beam type structure, because of measuring and comparing with two samples at a same time. And examination results are shown to compare efficiencies of the system and existing commercial products, and for an ammonia influence.
