아동 및 청소년 신체발육의 단기적 시대변화 (Secular change of physical growth in Korean children and youth between 1999 and 2005)

  • 연구목적: 본 연구는 1999년과 2005년의 다른 코호트에 있는 아동과 청소년 집단의 신체발육 특징을 비교분석함으로써 한국 아동과 청소년 신체발육의 단기적 시대변화를 파악하고자 하였다. 연구방법: 1999년 서울시 고등학교에 재학한 16세 남학생 231명, 여학생 346명과 2005년 서울시 고등학교에 재학한 16세 남학생 171명과 여학생 400명을 대상으로 이들의 건강검사 기록을 통해 종단적 신체발육자료를 수집하여 비교분석하였다. 연구결과: 주요 연구결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 남학생과 여학생 6세에서 16세까지의 모든 학생들의 2005년도 신장, 체중, 좌고, 흉위가 1999년에 비하여 더 컸다. 따라서 비교적 짧은 기간 동안에도 발육과정에 긍정적인 변화가 있음을 알 수 있었다. 둘째, 체중의 발육속도는 peak age이전이나 이후 모두 2005년이 컸으나, 신장은 peak age 이후에만 유의하게 컸다. 셋째, 2005년의 남학생들은 1999년에 비하여 신장은 평균 0.28년, 체중은 1.02년, 좌고는 0.39년, 흉위는 0.93년 앞서 있는 것으로 나타났다. 여학생의 경우, 신장은 0.81년, 체중은 0.76, 좌고는 0.32, 흉위는 0.57년 2005년이 앞서있었다. 즉, 2005년의 남학생들은 1999년에 비해 0.28-1.02년, 여학생들은 0.32-0.81년 발육이 앞서 있었다. 넷째, peak velocity에서만 남학생, 여학생 모두 유의한 시대적 변화가 있었고, peak age에서는 시대적 변화가 발견되지 않았다. 다섯째, BMI, 체중, 좌고, 흉위관련 지표에서 시대적 변화가 발견되었다. 특히 남학생의 경우는 체중, BMI, 흉위 관련지표에서, 여학생은 체중, 좌고에서 2005년과 1999년 간 유의한 차이가 발견되었다.

Effects of Lower Dietary Lysine and Energy Content on Carcass Characteristics and Meat Quality in Growing-finishing Pigs

  • Fifty-four PIC barrows were used to evaluate the effects of lower dietary lysine content and energy level on carcass characteristics and meat quality in slaughter pigs. Pigs were allotted to one of three treatments by body weight with six replicate pens in each treatment. The dietary treatments for body weights of 20-50 kg, 50-80 kg and 80-90 kg were as follows, respectively: control diet (digestible energy 14.22 MJ/kg, lysine/DE 0.67 g/MJ, 0.53 g/MJ and 0.42 g/MJ); a low lysine group (digestible energy 14.22 MJ/kg, lysine/DE 0.49, 0.38 and 0.30 g/MJ); and a low lysine-low energy group or low nutrient group (digestible energy 13.11 MJ/kg, lysine/DE 0.49, 0.38 and 0.30 g/MJ). The daily weight gain, daily feed intake and feed efficiency were calculated in the overall growth period (nearly 12 weeks). Meanwhile, carcass characteristics and meat quality were evaluated at 60 and 90 kg body weight respectively. During the overall growth trial, lowering dietary lysine and nutrient level both decreased weight gain (p<0.05) and feed efficiency (p<0.01). At 60 kg body weight, decreasing dietary lysine and nutrient level noticeably decreased dressing percentage (p<0.01) and back fat depth at last rib of PIC pigs (p<0.01), but enhanced marbling scores (p<0.10), intramuscular fat content (p<0.10) and water loss rate (p<0.01) of the longissimus dorsi muscle. At 90 kg body weight, lean percentage (p<0.01) was evidently reduced by both lowering lysine content and nutrient level in the diet. However, the shoulder back fat depth (p<0.05) and marbling scores of the loin eye muscle (p<0.05) were increased; Lowering dietary nutrient level could improve back fat depth of 10th rib (p<0.01) and last rib (p<0.01), intramuscular fat content (p<0.10), redness (p<0.01) and water loss rate of the loin eye muscle (p<0.05), but decrease loin area (p<0.05). Finally, when comparing the 60 kg and 90 kg slaughter weights, it was found that the shoulder back fat depth (p<0.01, p<0.10), 6th-7th rib (p<0.01, p<0.01), 10th-rib (p<0.01, p<0.01) and last rib back fat depth (p<0.01, p<0.01) of the low lysine and low nutrient group were all obviously increased comparing with the control group. Taken together, the results showed that decreasing dietary lysine content and nutrient level increased intramuscular fat content and water loss rate of longissimus dorsi muscle; On the other hand, both lowering dietary lysine and nutrient level markedly compensated to increase back fat deposition in the later finishing period (body weight from 60 to 90 kg) in contrast to the control group.

육계의 성성숙에 따른 세정관발육에 관한 연구 (Development of the Seminiferous Tubules of Meat Type Cockerels in Relation to Sexual Maturity)

  • The work was conducted to clarify the development of testes and histological changes of the Seminiferous tubules that is the Surface area, diameter, length of the tubules and the process of Spermatic cells growth in Seminal epithelium in relation to Sexual maturity of the meat-type cockerels. In addition the present experiments were planned to gain some basic data helpful for the study of reproductive physiology in meat-type cockerels and also to compare the histological changes Seminiferous tubules between egg and general purpose type cockerels. 1. The growth pattern of body weight, testes and comb was classified into four phase according to age. Body weight increased up to about 2kg at 2nd stage and to 4.3kg at 4th stage while at 3rd stage the growth rate of body weight was slower. The tests developed slowly until 22 weeks of age with no correlation to the growth of body weight. However, it grew rapidly afterwards, reaching 27.79$\pm$9.26gm and 42.46$\pm$5.33 gm at 24 and 28 weeks of age, respectively. The spermatozoa was seen first at 24 weeks of age. On the other hand, comb grew at similar rate to the testes, weighing on the average 21.78$\pm$6.48gm and 41.42$\pm$1.25gm at 24 and 28 weeks of age, respectively. 2. The areal rate of the Seminiferous tubules to interstitial tissues was 66%:34% at 2 weeks of age and the rate of the former increased in comparison to that of the latter as they grew older, becoming 94%:7% between at 24 weeks of age, when the testes weight increased rapidly too. 3. Diameter of Seminiferous tubules at 2 weeks of age was 42.76$\pm$1.04$\mu$m and then it gradually increased as the testes grew until 22 weeks of age, when it grew rapidly, increasing about 2.9 times of those of 2 weeks and at last increased up to 5 times at 24 weeks. 4. Length of Seminiferous tubules was 4.5cm at 2 weeks and then it was gradually increased. At 22 weeks old the length of tubules was icnreased rapidly being 321 meter and increased more than double, being 658 meter at 24 weeks old. 5. The cells of Seminal epithelium developed poorly and the number of cells were relatively few until 16 weeks old. Afterwards the cells increased rapidly in number and at 18 weeks, the number became twice of those of 16 weeks, reaching 140.43$\pm$43.6. At 24 weeks the cells increased more rapidly, reaching to 10 layers and Spermatozoa were first time seen.

해상가두리 및 실내 육상수조에서 먹이 공급비율에 따른 북방전복, Haliotis discus hannai의 성장 및 생존율 (The Effect of Growth and Survival Rate on Feeding Rate of Abalone, Haliotis discus hannai, Rearing in Net Cage Culture or Indoor Tank Culture)

  • 본 연구는 해상가두리의 먹이공급비율에 따른 성장 및 생존율을 조사하고, 실내육상양식의 먹이 공급율과의 비교를 통해 국내 주요 북방전복 양성방법인 해상가두리와 함께 실내 사육 수조의 적정 천연먹이의 공급율을 제안하여 북방전복 생산성 향상을 유도하고자 실시하였다. 먹이공급율은 전복 어체중량을 기준으로 일간공급율 (daily feeding rate, DFR) 5, 10, 15, 20% (5DFR, 10DFR, 15DFR, 20DFR) 를 설정하여, 해상가두리와 실내육상수조에서 2반복으로 13개월간 실시하였다. 해상가두리에서 사육한 전복 (최초 수용 시 평균각장 $54.18{\pm}7.39mm$) 성장에서 각 장과 각폭의 절대성장율 (absolute growth rate, ARG), 일간 성장율 (daily growth rate, DGR) 및 특수생장율 (specific growth rate, SGR) 과 중량의 증중률 (weight gain, WG), 일간증중률 (daily weight gain, DWG) 및 특수증중률(specific weight gain, SWG), 그리고 생존율에서 20DFR이 유의적으로 낮았다 (P < 0.05). 실내육상수조에서 사육한 전복 (최초 수용 시 평균각장 $49.70{\pm}2.28mm$) 의 각장, 각폭의 ARG, DGR, SGR과 중량의 WG, DWG, SWG에서는 5DFR, 10DFR이 유의적으로 높았고 (P < 0.05), 생존율은 20DFR이 유의적으로 낮았다 (P < 0.05). 따라서 해상가두리와 실내육상수조 전복양식 자연먹이의 일간 공급율은 성장과 생존율, 그리고 경제적 측면까지 고려하면 어체중량의 5-10%에서 공급해야 한다.

배합사료의 단백질 및 지질 함량이 어린 돌기해삼 Stichopus japonicus의 성장 및 체조성에 미치는 영향 (Effects of Dietary Protein and Lipid Levels on Growth and Body Composition of Juvenile Sea Cucumber Stichopus japonicus)

  • 본 연구는 어린 돌기해삼 Stichopus japonicus 사료의 적정 단백질과 지질 함량을 조사하기 위해 단백질(10%, 20%, 30% 및 40%)과 지질(3%, 7% 및 11%)이 달리 함유된 12 종류의 실험사료를 제조하였다. 평균 체중 1.1 g의 치삼을 각 수조마다 50마리씩 3반복으로 수용하여 8주간 수행하였다. 사육실험 종료 후, 생존율은 86% 이상으로 실험구간에 유의한 차이가 없었다(P>0.05). 증중율과 일간성장율은 동일한 지질함량에서 단백질 30%에 지질 3% 함유 사료 공급구가 다른 실험구에 비해 유의하게 높은 값을 나타내었다(P<0.05). 치삼의 수분, 지질 및 회분 함량은 사료의 단백질과 지질함량에 따른 차이를 보이지 않았으나, 단백질함량은 실험구간에 유의한 차이를 보였으며(P<0.05), 단백질 30%에 지질 3% 함유 사료 공급구에서 가장 높게 나타났고, 단백질 20%에 지질 11% 공급구에서 가장 낮았다. 지방산 조성은 사료의 지방산에 영향을 받아 지질함량이 증가함에 따라 18:2n-6은 증가하였고 n-3HUFA는 감소하는 경향을 보였다. 이상의 결과로부터, 해삼의 최대 성장에 필요한 단백질함량은 30%이고, 지질함량은 3%로 판단된다.

한국 재래닭의 부화 후 성장단계별 넙다리뼈와 정강뼈 성장에 관한 연구 (The growth stage study on the femur and tibia of Korean native chicken after hatching)

  • Skeletal development of chicken has been widely discussed in industrial forums and various research reports. However, these studies were emphasis on the commercial chicken strains for improve egg and meat production whereas the skeletal quiet remains as a potential weak link related to facilitating in the physical support of heavier carcasses at ever younger ages. For that, the study of standardization of skeletal development is important but it was rarely reported in Korean native chicken (KNC). The study was investigated the skeletal characteristics of KNC for international standardization. We studied in KNC at 2, 14, 28, 42, 56, 70, 84, 98, 112, 126, 147, 168, 196, 224, 336 and 448 days after hatch (male and female, n=13 for each group). We measured the body weight (BW), and after sacrifice measured organs and remove muscle from femur & tibia and measured bone weight. Data were analyzed by ANOVA, Duncan test, correlation analysis and regression analysis of SAS 9.1. We analyzed the data of BW, femur & tibia and made growth curve also. The BW was significantly increased up to 147 days after hatch (male, $1,927.88{\pm}68.92g$; female, $1,456.00{\pm}50.11g$), and then increased gradually. At 336 days, these growth was stop (male, $2,467.00{\pm}42.84g$; female, $1,568.71{\pm}62.62g$). The growth of femur & tibia length and width was stop on 98~126 days after hatch. At 98 days, we measured the length and width of femur & tibia in male were $132.39{\pm}3.18mm$ & $25.98{\pm}0.59mm$ whereas in female at 112 days the length of femur & tibia was $116.40{\pm}1.55mm$ and at 126 days width was $21.41{\pm}0.38mm$. Our study suggests that the growth of male KNC was classified pre-puberty (0~98 days), puberty (98~336 days) and maturity (after 336 days), meanwhile female was shown similar trend however puberty period of KNC was 112 or 126 days after hatch.

The Effects of Docking on Growth Traits, Carcass Characteristics and Blood Biochemical Parameters of Sanjabi Fat-tailed Lambs

  • The effects of docking on growth traits, fattening performance, carcass characteristics and blood biochemical parameters were investigated using 24 fat-tailed Sanjabi single-born male lambs raised from a large commercial sheep herd. The lambs were randomly divided into two groups. One group (n = 12) were docked at two days of age with rubber-rings using an elastrator. The second group (n = 12) were left intact. After weaning (90 days), all lambs were moved to rustic rangelands for 40 days. Then all the lambs were fed concentrates ad libitum for 60 days during the fattening period. Growth traits, body weight and average daily gain (kg) were recorded at the end of the weaning and fattening periods. Blood biochemical parameters including urea, total protein, glucose, triglycerides, cholesterol, low-density lipoproteins (LDL) and high-density lipoproteins (HDL) were measured during the fattening period. Finally, at the end of the fattening period, eight lambs (4 intact and 4 docked lambs) were slaughtered in order to determine carcass characteristics. Fat-tail docking had no effect (p>0.05) on lamb growth from birth to weaning. Body weight and average daily gain of docked lambs were significantly higher (p<0.05) than for intact lambs at the end of the fattening period. There was no difference in carcass measurements between the two groups, except for chest depth and leg weight which were higher (p<0.05) in docked lambs. During the fattening period, cholesterol and LDL of docked lambs were less than in intact lambs (p<0.05). The current results indicated that docking with rubber rings causes an improvement in growth traits during the fattening period and leads to desirable carcass characteristics compared to intact lambs; interestingly, this procedure had a significant effect on the lowering of blood cholesterol and LDL of docked lambs.

Identification of Quantitative Traits Loci (QTL) Affecting Growth Traits in Pigs

  • Molecular genetic markers were used to detect chromosomal regions which contain economically important traits such as growth, carcass, and meat quality traits in pigs. A three generation resource population was constructed from a cross between Korean native boars and Landrace sows. A total of 240 F2 animals from intercross of F1 was produced. Phenotypic data on 17 traits, birth weight, body weights at 3, 5, 12, and 30 weeks of age, teat number, carcass weight, backfat thickness, body fat, backbone number, muscle pH, meat color, drip loss, cooking loss, water holding capacity, shear force, and intramuscular fat content were collected for F2 animals. Animals including grandparents (F0), parents (F1), and offspring (F2) were genotyped for 80 microsatellite markers covering from chromosome 1 to 10. Least squares regression interval mapping was used for quantitative trait loci (QTL) identification. Significance thresholds were determined by permutation tests. A total of 10 QTL were detected at 5% chromosome-wide significance levels for growth traits on SSCs 2, 4, 5, 6, and 8.

육성기 교배조합 토종닭 간의 성장률 비교에 관한 연구 (Comparison of growth performance between crossbred Korean native chickens for hatch to 28 days)

  • The study was conducted to determine the effect of corssbred Korean native chickens (CKNC) on growth performance indices for hatch to 28 days. A total of 192 1-day-old birds were divided into one of 4 CKNC groups by 5 Korean native pure strains. Diets used in the study consisted of 2 phases with corn and soybean meal basis as earlier (1~2 weeks; crude protein 18.5%, metabolizable energy 3,000 kcal/kg), and grower (2~4 weeks; crude protein 15.0%, Metabolizable Energy 2,850 kcal/kg). Body weight and feed intake were measured bi-weekly. Crossbred 1G (group of family line) had higher body weight and average daily gain whereas crossbred 5Y had greater average daily feed intake and feed conversion ratio than other crossbred Korean native chicken for hatch to 28 days. The results in the current study indicated that crossbred 1G had higher growth performance indices compared with other crossbred Korean native chicken for hatch to 28 days.

사료 공급 횟수가 쏘가리(Siniperca scherzeri) 치어의 성장 및 체조성에 미치는 영향 (Influence of Different Feeding Frequency on the Growth and Body Composition of Juvenile Mandarin Fish Siniperca scherzeri Reared in a Recirculating Aquaculture System (RAS))

  • A feeding trial was conducted to investigate the effect of feeding frequency on the growth performance and body composition of juvenile mandarin fish Siniperca scherzeri. Triplicate groups of fish (initial fish weight, 7.5 g/fish) were fed to apparent satiation at one, two, three or four meals per day for 8 weeks. The results showed that weight gain of fish fed one meal per day was significantly (P<0.05) lower than those fish fed two, three or four meals per day. Feed efficiency of fish fed two meals per day was significantly (P<0.05) higher than other experimental groups. The plasma cholesterol content was significantly lower in fish fed one meal per day than those fed two, three or four meals per day. Consequently, we can conclude that feeding juvenile mandarin fish twice daily to apparent satiation is acceptable and sufficient to achieve good growth and feed efficiency, as fish performance was not remarkably enhanced when feeding increased from two to four times per day.
