무릎 근력의 불균형이 백 스쿼트 동작에 미치는 영향 (The Effect of Knee Muscle Imbalance on Motion of Back Squat)

  • 본 연구는 무릎 근력의 불균형이 백 스쿼트 시 인체 움직임의 제한 요인으로 작용하는지를 확인하는 것에 목적이 있다. 백 스쿼트 유경험자로 최근 2년간 부상이 없는 서울시 소재 S대학교 학생 8명을 연구 대상자로 선정하였다. Cybex 770으로 무릎관절의 등속성 근력을 측정한 후, 동측 주작용근과 대항근의 근력 불균형 정도와 좌 우 같은 근 군의 결손율에 따라 그룹을 나눈 후, 개인별 몸무게의 25%, 50%, 100%, 125%의 중량과 같은 바벨을 백 스쿼트로 들게 하였다. 무릎 굽힘 각도, 신체중심의 수직 변위, V-COP의 측정 구간 내 평균 위치로부터 매 순간 V-COP 까지의 거리 합 변인들에 대한 집단별 차이를 검증하기 위해 독립표본 T 검정을 실시하였다. 125%BW 조건에서 무릎관절 근력의 동측 불균형은 쭈그려 앉는 자세의 제한 요인으로, 좌 우측 폄 근력의 불균형은 평형성 유지의 제한 요인으로 작용하였다. 근력의 불균형이 인체 움직임의 제한 요인으로 작용할 수 있음을 확인하였으므로, 차후 임상에서는 근력 불균형에 대한 검사법과 함께 교정 및 재활 운동 방법 또한 발전시켜 나갈 필요가 있다.

Effects of feed form and particle size on growth performance, nutrient digestibility, carcass characteristics, and gastric health in growing-finishing pigs

  • Objective: This study was conducted to evaluate the effects of feed processing and particle size on growth performance, nutrient digestibility, carcass characteristics, and gastric health in growing-finishing pigs. Methods: A total of 360 growing pigs (22.64±0.014 kg initial body weight [BW]) were allocated to 1 of 6 treatments with 6 replicates by BW and sex, and 10 pigs were housed in one pen in a randomized complete block design. The BW and feed intake were recorded to calculate growth performance. For the digestibility trial, a total of 24 barrows with an initial BW of 33.65±0.372 kg were split into 6 treatments with a completely randomized design. Dietary treatments were designed by a 2×3 factorial arrangement of treatments based on two main factors, particle size (600, 750, 900 ㎛) and feed form (mash and pellet) of diet. Experimental diets were formulated to contain the requirements of the NRC (2012). Results: The BW and average daily gain were not changed by dietary treatments, and the feed intake of finishing pigs (wks 6 to 12) was increased when the pigs were fed a mash diet (p<0.05). For the overall period, the feed efficiency of pigs was improved with the pellet diet (p<0.01) and reduced particle size (p<0.05). The pellet diet had effects on increasing crude fat digestibility (p<0.01) relative to a mash diet, but there was no considerable change in dry matter and crude protein digestibilities by dietary treatments. In the evaluation of gastric health, a trend for an increased incidence of keratinization in the esophageal region was observed as particle size decreased (p = 0.07). Conclusion: Feed efficiency could be improved by pellet diet and reduced particle size. Nutrient digestibility, carcass characteristics, and gastric health were not affected by feed form, and particle size ranged from 600 to 900 ㎛.

Selection response and estimation of the genetic parameters for multidimensional measured breast meat yield related traits in a long-term breeding Pekin duck line

  • Objective: This study was conducted to estimate the genetic parameters and breeding values of breast meat related traits of Pekin ducks. Selection response was also determined by using ultrasound breast muscle thickness (BMT) measurements in combination with bosom breadth (BB) and keel length (KL) values. Methods: The traits analyzed were breast meat weight (BMW), body weight (BW), breast meat percentage (BMP) and the three parameters of breast meat (BB, KL, and BMT). These measurements were derived from studying 15,781 Pekin ducks selected from 10 generations based on breast meat weight. Genetic parameters and breeding value were estimated for the analysis of the breeding process. Results: Estimated heritability of BMW and BMP were moderate (0.23 and 0.16, respectively), and heritability of BW was high (0.48). Other traits such as BB, KL, and BMT indicated moderate heritability ranging between 0.11 and 0.28. Significant phenotypic correlations of BMW with BW and BMP were discovered (p<0.05), and genetic correlations of BMW with BW and BMP were positive and high (0.83 and 0.66, respectively). It was noted that BMW had positive correlations with all the other traits. Generational average estimated breeding values of all traits increased substantially over the course of selection, which demonstrated that the ducks responded efficiently to increased breast meat yield after 10 generations of breeding. Conclusion: The results indicated that duck BMW had the potential to be increased through genetic selection with positive effects on BW and BMP. The ultrasound BMT, in combination with the measurement of BB and KL, is shown to be essential and effective in the process of high breast meat yield duck breeding.

호박즙, 옥수수수염차, 팥차 및 혼합물이 식이유도 비만동물모델에서 체중과 항산화 활성에 미치는 영향 (Effect of Pumpkin, Corn Silk, Adzuki Bean, and Their Mixture on Weight Control and Antioxidant Activities in High Fat Diet-Induced Obesity Rats)

  • 4주간 식이로 유도된 비만 동물에서 호박즙(250 mg/kg BW), 옥수수수염차(250 mg/kg BW), 팥차(250 mg/kg BW)와 이들 혼합음료(호박즙 분말 : 옥수수수염차 분말 : 팥차 분말, 1:1:1, 250 mg/kg BW)를 9주간 투여하여 그 효능을 알아본 결과 호박즙, 옥수수수염차, 팥차 개별 섭취 시 체중감소 효과는 보였으나 그 기전은 본 연구에서 규명하지 못하였다. 그러나 혼합음료 섭취군에서는 지방조직 무게의 유의적 감소로 인한 체중 저하 효능을 확인할 수 있었다. 부고환지방조직의 표면적은 고지방식이섭취군(HFD)군에 비해 고지방식이+혼합음료섭취군(HFD+PCA)군에서 유의적으로 감소하였으며, HFD+PCA군의 아디포넥틴은 HFD군에 비해 유의적으로 증가하였다. 음료섭취군들 중 고지방식이+혼합음료섭취군(HFD+PCA)은 고지방식이섭취군(HFD)보다 ORAC value가 증가하였고, GSH-Px의 간 항산화 효소에서도 HFD군보다 HFD+PCA군이 유의적으로 증가하였다. 또한, HFD+PCA군은 고지방식이에 의한 지질과산화물 생성을 유의적으로 감소시켰으며, 비만으로 인한 산화적 스트레스에 따른 DNA 손상을 현저히 낮추었다. 따라서 산화적 스트레스에 의해 유도되는 비만 치료에 호박즙, 옥수수수염차, 팥차를 각각 섭취하기보다는 이들 세 가지를 동일한 비율로 혼합 섭취 시 각각의 항산화 효능의 상승작용에 의한 항비만 효과가 현저하게 나타낼 것으로 생각한다.

Estimation of Inbreeding Levels and Its Effect on Growth Performances of Calves in Hanwoo and Chikso (Korea Brindle) Cattle Population

  • The objective of this study was to compare the effects of the levels of inbreeding on body weight traits between two breed populations, Hanwoo and Korea Brindle cattle. Birth weight (BW), weaning weight (WW), body weight at 6 months of age (W6) and yearling weight (YW). Records of 1,745 calves (1,513 from Hanwoo, and 232 from Korea Brindle calves) were collected from Livestock Research Institutes in Kangwon, Gyeongbuk and Chungbuk provinces. The least squares means (LSM) and their standard errors for BW, WW, W6 and YW were $25.4{\pm}0.1$ kg, $81.0{\pm}1.8$ kg, $146.1{\pm}3.7$ kg and $291.5{\pm}2.4$ kg, respectively in Hanwoo calves and $22.6{\pm}0.3$ kg, $79.9{\pm}2.3$ kg, $137.6{\pm}4.6$ kg and $249.3{\pm}6.6$ kg, respectively in Korea Brindle calves. Pedigree data showed that 14.8% (316 out of 2131) of Hanwoo was inbred and the average inbreeding coefficient was 0.0209 (2.09%). Inbreeding coefficients of ten calves out of 316 total inbred Hanwoo calves were 12.5% or higher, whereas those of the other 306 calves were less than 12.5%. A randomized controlled trial of an individualized nutrition counseling program matched with a transtheoretical model for overweight and obese females in Thailand

  • BACKGROUND/OBJECTIVE: Effective weight reduction remains a challenge throughout the world as the prevalence of obesity and its consequences are increasing. This study aimed to determine the effects of an individualized nutrition counseling program (IC) matched with a transtheoretical model (TTM) for overweight and obese subjects. SUBJECTS/METHODS: Fifty overweight and obese subjects aged 19-60 years with a body mass index ${\geq}23kg/m^2$ were enrolled in the weight reduction study. They were randomized into two groups: Intervention group received an IC matched with a TTM; control group received an educational handbook. Body weight (BW), body fat (BF), waist circumference (WC), waist to height ratio (WHtR), stages of change (SOC), processes of change (POC), food intake, and physical activity (PA) were assessed at baseline and at 4, 8, and 12 weeks after program initiation in both groups. All data were analyzed by intention-to-treat, using SPSS software for hypothesis testing. RESULTS: Forty-five female subjects were included in the 12-week trial at Ramkhamhaeng Hospital, Bangkok, Thailand. The results showed significant weight loss ($1.98{\pm}1.75kg$; 3% loss of initial weight) in the intervention group at 12 weeks, compared to a $0.17{\pm}1.67kg$ loss in the control group. There were significant differences between intervention and control groups in BF mass ($-1.68{\pm}1.78$, $-0.04{\pm}1.62kg$); percentage BF ($-1.54{\pm}2.11$, $0.08{\pm}2.05$); WC ($-5.35{\pm}3.84$, $0.13{\pm}3.23cm$); WHtR ($-0.0336{\pm}0.02$, $-0.0004{\pm}0.02$), and energy consumption ($-405.09{\pm}431.31$, $-74.92{\pm}499.54kcal/day$) in the intervention and control groups, respectively. Intragroup SOC was improved in both groups. The POC for the weight management action (WMA) process was significantly different with POC scores increasing by $16.00{\pm}11.73$ and $7.74{\pm}14.97$ in the intervention and the control groups, respectively. PA level did not change in either group. CONCLUSIONS: The IC matched with a TTM resulted in reductions in BW, BF, and WC, thus reducing likely health risks by decreasing energy intake and inducing positive behavior changes while enhancing the WMA process.

육용계의 부하시 체중 혹은 정강이 길이와 성장률과의 상관관계에 관한 연구 (The Association of Growth Rate with Body Weight or Shank Length at Birth in Broiler Chickens)

  • 육용계의 성장률 개량을 위한 조기 선발시, 부화시 체중과 부화시 정강이 길이 중 어느 형질을 기초로 하여 선발하는 것이 성장률 개량을 위해서 더 효율적인 방법인가를 조사하기 위하여 국내의 일반 농가에서 주로 사육되고 있는 육용계 품종 중 Cobb 종과 Ross 종 두 품종을 이용하여 5주간 시험하였으며, 시험구 배치는 부화 당일에 각 품종별로 병아리 200수중에서 부화시 체중이 무거운 그룹(HBW)과 가벼운 그룹(LBW), 혹은 부화시 정강이 길이가 긴 그룹(LSL)과 짧은 그룹(SSL)으로 나누고 각 그룹당 25수씩(수평아리, 13수: 암평아리, 12수)선발하여 배치하였던 바 그 결과는 다음과 같다. 두 품종 모두 부화시 체중이 유의하게(P < 0.05)더 무거웠던 개체들은 일반적으로 정강이 길이도 유의하게(P < 0.05)더 길었다. 시험 종료시 체중을 기초로 하여 그룹간에 비교를 하였을 때, Cobb 종은 BBW와 LSL간, 혹은 LBW와 SSL 그룹 상호간에는 유의한 차이가 없었고, HBW는 LBW 보다, 그리고 LSL은 SSL보다 유의하게 5주령시 체중이 더 무거웠던 반면에, Ross 종에서는 4그룹 상호간에 통계적인 유의성을 나타낼 만큼 체중의 차이를 보이지는 않았다. 한편 0 ~ 5주령간 정강이 길이의 변화에 대한 비교에 있어서는 두 품종 모두 4그룹 상호간에 크게 차이를 나타내지 못하였다. 부화시 체중(BW)과 0~5주령간 성장률(GR), BW와 0~5주령간 정강이 길이(SL), 혹은 GR ${\times}$ SL 상호간 상관분석의 결과, 일반적으로 GR ${\times}$ SL 상호간에만 두품종 모두 유의한(P < 0.05 ~ 0.001)상관관계를 나타내었다. 결론적으로 성장률 개량을 위하여 조기 선발을 하는 경우, 부화시 체중을 기초로 하여 선발을 하든지, 아니면 부화시 정강이 길이에 의해 선발을 하든지 간에 부화 이후의 성장률에는 크게 차이가 없어 체중을 측정하는 것보다 정강이 길이를 측정하는데 시간이 더 많이 걸리고, 또한 정강이 길이를 측정하는 것이 체중을 측정하는 것보다 상대적으로 정확도가 떨어지기 때문에 부화시 체중을 기초로 하여 성장률 개량을 도모하는 편이 더 용이하리라 사료된다.

전침이 복부비만 성인의 비만관련 지표에 미치는 영향-무작위배정 단일 맹검 예비연구- (Effects of Electroacupuncture on Parameters Related to Obesity in Adults with Abdominal Obesity:Three arm Randomized Single Blind Pilot Study)

  • Objectives : To investigate the effects of electroacupuncture on parameters related to obesity in adults with abdominal obesity. Methods : A three arm randomized single blind pilot study was conducted from Jan 4 to March 25, 2010 in Kyung Hee Oriental Medical Hospital. The subjects were 39 adults with abdominal obesity and were randomly divided by computer generated random table into 3 groups; EA(electroacupuncture), sham EA(sham electroacupuncture) and waitlist groups. Acupuncture points located at abdomen($CV_{12}$, $CV_6$, $ST_{25}$, $SP_{15}$, $SP_{14}$) and extremities($LI_4$, $LI_{11}$, $ST_{36}$, $ST_{44}$) were inserted by disposable stainless steel needles and were stimulated 30 minutes with 24Hz, 0.27~1.3mA(tolerable strength), asymmetric biphasic continuous pulse wave form by STN-111 Stratek device in EA group. Two treatment sessions per week for 5 weeks(10 sessions in total) were done in EA and sham EA groups. The primary outcome measurement was WC(waist circumference), and the secondary outcome measurements included WHR(waist hip ratio), ASF(thickness of abdominal subcutaneous fat), and inbody measurements of BW(body weight), BMI(body mass index), BFR(body fat ratio) and VFA(visceral fat area), and also scores of BULIT-R(bulimia test revised), KoQoL(Korean obesity of QoL) and BSQ(body shape questionnaire). Results : All of 39 subjects were included in ITT(intention-to-treat) analysis. There were significant reductions in WC, WHR and ASF after 5-week electroacupuncture treatments and the percentage reductions were significantly greater than sham EA or waitlist group. There were no significant differences between groups in percentage reductions of other parameters(BW, BMI, BFR, VFA, BULIT-R, KoQoL and BSQ). But, there were continuous reductions in BW, BMI, BFR and VFA at 3 weeks after the end of treatment and there was significant reduction in BW compared with the baseline value in EA group. No seriously adverse effects were reported during the period. Conclusions : Electroacupuncture was more effective than sham electroacupuncture or no intervention on the reduction of WC, WHR and ASF in adults with abdominal obesity.

Effect of Caecectomy on Body Weight Gain, Intestinal Characteristics and Enteric Gas Production in Goslings

  • Two experiments of four-week duration were conducted to investigate the effect of caecectomy on the intestinal characteristics, body weight gain and gas production in the caeca of White Roman goslings. In experiment I, forty eight 2-wk-old female goslings with similar body weight were randomly divided into four treatments: sham (SHAM), left side caecum removed (LSCR), right side caecum removed (RSCR) and both caeca removed (CAECECTOMY). Smimilarly, experiment II was conducted with twelve 5-wkold male goslings in two treatments: SHAM and CAECECTOMY. Free choice water with ad libitum feed was provided during experiment. At the end of experiment I, goslings were sacrificed and gut length and weight were determined. At 7 and 9 wks of age, birds in experiment II were subjected to respiration calorimetry studies. In both experiments, final body weights were not affected by caecectomy. Results of experiment I indicated that caecectomy did not significantly affect the relative weight (g/100 g BW) of gizzard, small intestine, rectum and colon (p>0.05); however, the relative length of colon and rectum did increase (p<0.05). The remaining caecum did not show compensatory growth in both LSCR and RSCR treatments. In experiment II, results indicated that the average enteric methane production from the caecetomised goslings was significantly lower than that from the bird in SHAM goslings (p<0.05). In comparison with SHAM goslings, calorific loss from entric methane in caecetomised birds was lower (p<0.05). There was no effect of age on methane production. The enteric nitrous oxide production in caeca of goslings was very low with no significantly different between two treatments.

Anti-Stress Effects of Ginseng in Immobilization-Stressed Rats

  • Stress is a global menace exacerbated by the advancement of industrialization. Failure of stress management is to a breakdown of the psychological and physiological protection mechanisms against stress. The aim of present study was to investigate the anti-stress potential of ginseng against immobilization stress. Male Sprague-Dawley rats (n=24) were divided into three groups; (i) control, (ii) immobilization stress (2hr daily, for 2 weeks), and (iii) immobilization stress (2 hr daily, for 2 weeks) plus oral administration of ginseng (200 mg/kg BW Id). Immobilization stress resulted in a significant inhibition of body weight gain by 45 % and a significant decrease in the tissue weights of thymus and spleen (p < 0.05). The concentrations of blood GOT and GPT were significantly increased in the immobilization-stressed group compared to the control group (p < 0.05). There were no differences in the blood cholesterol levels among groups. Ginseng administration in the immobilization-stressed group tended to reverse the lack of body weight gain and food intake, though not significantly. The ginseng-administered group showed a significant reversal in the stress-induced effect on spleen and thymus weight, increasing the tissue weights by 16% and 20%, respectively, compared to immobilization-stressed group (p<0.05). The plasma corticosterone level was significantly increased in the stressed group by 39 % compared to the control group (p<0.05), but ginseng administration significantly reversed the stress-induced increase in plasma corticosterone by 15 % compared to the immobilization-stressed group. The present study suggests that the anti-stress effect of ginseng is mediated by normalization of stress-induced changes in the circulating hormones and a reversal of tissue weight loss, thereby returning the body to normal homeostasis.
