Non-geometric shapes in contemporary architecture was explained from the transcendental schema of Deleuze with his abstraction theory. In this explanation, the intensity, the movement and change and the sublime were suggested as the expressional elements of the transcendental abstraction related with the artistic sensation of architecture. First, the intensity as a power of sensation which acts to the body before the recognition of brain is mainly expressed with the movement of curved lines of architectural space. Second, the movement of change is expressed as the de-centralized and de-formalized nomadic curve as the line in architectural 'smooth space' which has unrestrained orientations. Third, the sublime is expressed in the hugeness, enormousness or sometimes uncanny in void space, which could be contradictively mixed with senses of displeasure and pleasure. The sublime feelings in architecture can be emerging by rationally overcoming the unpleasant senses of contradictive spaces in architecture or urban fabric. This study has explained those expressional elements with the architectural works of Steven Holl, Frank Gehry and Zaha Hadid.
Vertigo is the sensation of self-motion of the head or body when no self-motion is occurring or the sensation of distorted self-motion during an otherwise normal head movement. Representative peripheral vertigo disorders include benign paroxysmal positional vertigo, Ménière disease, and vestibular neuritis. Vestibular neuritis, also known as vestibular neuronitis, is the third most common peripheral vestibular disorder after benign paroxysmal positional vertigo and Ménière disease. The cause of vestibular neuritis remains unclear. However, a viral infection of the vestibular nerve or ischemia of the anterior vestibular artery is known to cause vestibular neuritis. In addition, recent studies on immune-mediated mechanisms as the cause of vestibular neuritis have been reported. The characteristic clinical features of vestibular neuritis are abrupt true-whirling vertigo lasting for more than 24 hours, and no presence of cochlear symptoms and other neurological symptoms and signs. To accurately diagnose vestibular neuritis, various diagnostic tests such as the head impulse test, bithermal caloric test, and vestibular-evoked myogenic potential test are conducted. Various treatments for vestibular neuritis have been reported, which are largely divided into symptomatic therapy, specific drug therapy, and vestibular rehabilitation therapy. Symptomatic therapies include generalized supportive care and administration of vestibular suppressants and antiemetics. Specific drug therapies include steroid therapy, antiviral therapy, and vasodilator therapy. Vestibular rehabilitation therapies include generalized vestibular and customized vestibular exercises.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate tactile sense perception of the lower extremities according to physical function in children with spastic cerebral palsy. Methods: This study was conducted on 15 children diagnosed with spastic cerebral palsy. Physical function measurement items included dynamic balance ability, gross motor function level, and lower extremity ankle spasticity. The lower extremity tactile sensation uses a monofilament to measure the sole of the first metatarsal head, the sole of the fifth metatarsal head, the heel, the anterior part of the shin midway between the patella and the ankle joint, the kneecap, the upper anterior iliac spine, and the knee. A total of six measurements were taken in the mid-femoral region of the bone. Spearman correlation analysis was performed to determine the degree of body function and lower extremity tactile perception. Results: As the physical function of children with spastic cerebral palsy deteriorated, there was a decrease in tactile sensation in the thigh area corresponding to the proximal lower extremity. (p <.05). Conclusion: Children with spastic cerebral palsy and poor physical function have sensory loss not only in the distal part but also in the proximal part, so a treatment approach that recognizes and improves it is necessary.
This study evaluated the thermal physiological and psychological responses elicited when wearing cold protective jackets with aerogel fillings in two cold environments, one without air velocities and one with air velocities (2.3 m·s-1), at an air temperature of 10℃. The participants were five healthy young males. Measures were taken of physiological parameters, blood pressure (BP), heart rate (HR), core temperature, oxygen uptake (Vo2), and microclimate (temperature and humidity). The psychological parameters evaluated were thermal and wetness sensation. No differences were observed in systolic blood pressure, heart rate, and oxygen intake between the conditions. At tympanic temperature, a significant difference was observed between the conditions during exercise (p<.05); . A significant difference was observed in the microclimate temperature of the clothing according to the airflow, and temperature changes in the chest and back revealed different patterns. Significant differences were observed in thermal sensation (whole body (p<.05), chest (p<.05), back (p<.01)) between airflow conditions. The results therefore indicate that cold protective jackets with an aerogel filling are suitable for people operating in low-temperature and airflow environments.
This study was designed to present the preferred indoor temperature of college students in summer based on their body composition. A total of 19 subjects, 10 females and 9 males, participated in this study. They sat in a climatic chamber controlled at $27^{\circ}C$ wearing a short sleeved shirt and short trousers. The air temperature decreased by $0.5^{\circ}C$ every 10 minutes until it reached $24^{\circ}C$. Oxygen uptake, rectal temperature, and skin temperature, subjective sensation were measured and recorded. Females increased the rectal temperature and decreased mean skin temperature in an air conditioned environment, showing better physiological responses. But they felt more thermal discomfort than males. The preferred indoor temperature of college students in summer was $25.3^{\circ}C$, $25.7^{\circ}C$ for females and $24.97^{\circ}C$ for males.
Objectives : The purpose of this study is to report the effect of Bangpoongtongseong-san Gagam and Yukmijihwang-tang Gagam on whole-body xerotic eczema. Methods : We treated a 63-year-old male patient who has whole-body xerotic eczema by Korean medicine. He was treated from August 23rd, 2023 to November 22th, 2023. The treatment applied was acupuncture, pharmacopuncture and herbal medicine including 'Bangpoongtongseong-san Gagam' and 'Yukmijihwang-tang Gagam'. The evaluation was conducted by photo comparison, Visual Analogue Scale(VAS) and Dermatology Life Quality Index(DLQI). Results : After three months of treatment, the symptoms were disappeared. The itching and heat sensation decreased, and redness also disappeared. VAS of discomfort was decreased from 10 to 0. DLQI was also decreased. Conclusions : Bangpoongtongseong-san Gagam and Yukmijihwang-tang Gagam helped to relieve the itching and heat of whole-body xerotic eczema.
Eagle's syndrome is the term given to symtomatic elogation of the styloid process or mineralization of the stylohyoid or stylomandibular ligament. Since ossification of stylohyoid ligament at cadeva was fist described by De Manchetis in 1652 and Weinlecher described clinical symptom which produced by elongated styloid process and osteotomy of styloid process in 1872, Clinical symtom which include sensation of a foreign body on the pharynx, dysphagai, dysphonia, referred pain, and mouth opening disturbance was termed by Eagle as Eagle's syndrome. then, case reports of Eagle's syndrome are presented. in these cases, the patient's chief complaints included periauricular radiating pain, mouth opening disturbance, foreign body sensation, dysphagia, tenderness on the neck. Through vairous X-ray examination and palpation of tonsillar fossa, elongated styloid process were confirmed. Under the general anesthesia there were successfully removed out via transoral approach technique, described by Eagle. after resented styloid process, they were freed from the symptoms without further complication. Therefor we reported these cases treated by surgical resection of styloid process with good results.
The purposes of this study are finding out thermophysiological properties throughout wearing experiment with standard cooling vest as well as providing data in order to design and apply more comfortable cooling vest. To do this study, we produced cooling vest newly. 1. Rectal temperature was ascended approximately from $37.2^{\circ}C$ to $38.05^{\circ}C$ in lab, but wearing cooling vest, the temperature was descended 0.2 while wearing developed product compare with existing product. Mean skin temperature which was showed distribution from $32.8{\sim}36.5^{\circ}C$, it was descended $1.0{\sim}1.1^{\circ}C$, while wearing cooling vest and comparing with existing product, wearing developed product was lower $0.5^{\circ}C$. 2. While wearing developed cooling vest, it was found that they had lower tendency than standard cooling vest. Specifically in case of temperature within clothing (chest) $0.2{\sim}2.0^{\circ}C$ in case of humidity within clothing 2~8%RH. Facts from above we confirmed that clothing microclimate had been improved and space was happened between body and garment in order to control. 3. In subjective sensation, standard cooling vest made negative response during experiment period from participants, but new cooling vest was nearing to comfortable area. It was con finned from above conclusions that wearing developed product is more effective in terms of comfort and reduction of heat stress in situation of working in hot environment.
Background and Objectives: Vocal cord granuloma is a exophytic inflammatory mass and caused by gastroesophageal reflux, voice abuse, endotracheal intubation. There has been a controversy in the treatment of vocal cord granuloma. Our aim of study is to know the clinical characteristics and the results of surgical management for vocal cord granuloma. Materials and Methods: We have reviewed and analyzed medical records of 55 patients who were diagnosed and surgically treated as vocal cord granuloma in Asan medical center from 1997 to 2005 retrospectively. Results: 25 cases were intubation granuloma and 30 cases were contact granuloma. In intubation granuloma, the clinical manifestation was hoarseness(70%), foreign body sensation(44%), chronic cough(21%). In contact granuloma, the clinical manifestation was hoarseness(67%), foreign body sensation(60%), throat clearing(21%). The recurrence rate after surgery was 8% in intubation granuloma and 33% in contact granuloma. Mean recurrence time was 4.1months in intubation granuloma and 3.2months in contact granuloma. Conclusion: Although there is no significant difference, recurrence rate after surgery was high in contact granuloma compared to intubation granuloma(p=0.125). Although this study is retrospective, surgical management must be considered in resolving diagnostic doubt, treating airway obstruction, and failure in conservative treatments.
