  • The influence of granules characteristics and compaction pressure on the microstructure and mechanical properties of sintered as a function of slurry dispersion state. The characteristics and the compaction behavior of the spray dried alumina granules considerably affected the microstructure as well as the mechanical properties of the sintered body. In the green bodies formed with granules prepared with a dispersed slurry, the granules with dimple clearly existed and caused pore defects in sintered body. These dimples were clearly present even in the green body prepared at 180 MPa. The pores between the granules were not removed during pressing and sintering, and remained in the sintered body. In contrast, in the granules fabricated from a flocculated slurry, the destroy of granules at the contact points was observed with increasing pressure. Sintered bodies fabricated with fewer defects showed strength increase. For the sample fabricated with flocculated slurry, the pores at the boundaries of granules were small and more irregular shape compared with those of dispersed slurry.

  • A code is developed using the hybrid Cartesian/immersed boundary method and it is applied to simulate flows around a three-dimensional deforming body. A new criterion is suggested to distribute the immersed boundary nodes based on edges crossing a body boundary. Velocities are reconstructed at the immersed boundary nodes using the interpolation along a local normal line to the boundary. Reconstruction of the pressure at the immersed boundary node is avoided using the hybrid staggered/non-staggered grid method. The developed code is validated through comparisons with other experimental and numerical results for the velocity profiles around a circular cylinder under the forced in-line oscillation and the pressure coefficient distribution on a sphere. The code is applied to simulate the flow fields around a plate whose tail is periodically flapping under a translation. The effects of the velocity and acceleration due to the deformation on the periodic shedding of pairs of tip vortices are investigated.

  • Blood pressure distribution of adolescents and its several related factors including obesity were investigated through blood pressure measuring by automated oscillometric method, anthropometry, and questionnaire. Subjects were 480 female and 480 male middle school students living in Taejon. Mean values of systolic(SBP)/diastolic(DNP) blood pressure of male and female students were 118.4$\pm$11.0/69.5$\pm$9.6 mmHg and 116.9$\pm$10.4/69.5$\pm$8.6 mmHg, respectively. Their blood pressures, particularly SBP, increased with age and showed higher value in the males than in the females. All frequency distributions of SBP and DBP, by sex and age, showed normal curves and their 50th, 90th, and 95th percentiles were presented. As obese index increased, both SBP and DBP were elevated and the prevalence of hypertension which was classified by Task Force Report(1987) increased, particularly in male students. Body weight and BMI were positively correlated with both SBP and DBP, and hight was also positively correlated with SBP or DBP. Our data inicated that blood pressure and hypertension prevalence of adolescents tended to increase and various internal and external environmental factors affected them. It was emphasized that blood pressure measurement should be done in every medical examination of adolescents and the nationwide Korean standard of blood pressure for adolescents have to be prepared. • Objectives : This study was conducted to investigate how Bone Mineral Density(BMD) and bone mass index(BMI) differ according to classification of blood pressure which JNC 7(The seventh report of the joint national committee on prevention, detection, evaluation and treatment of high blood pressure) indicated. Methods : We measured BMD and BMI of lumbar spine($L_2-L_4$) and femoral neck of 9816 people, and then we analyzed them according to classification of blood pressure. Results : The number of prehypertension group was the most, and Stage 2 hypertension group was the least. As the hypertension was increasing, BMD of lumbar and femoral neck were decreasing, and BMI was increasing. In men, as the blood pressure was increasing, BMI was increasing. But the BMD was irrelevant. In women, the distribution was similar to the total. Conclusions : As the hypertension was increasing, BMI was increasing and BMD was decreasing. And it was more remarkable in women.

  • This study aims to provide the basic biomechanical data on the average, maximum and distribution of plantar pressure during hockey penalty stroke by comparing five skilled and five unskilled players. Following are the conclusions. First in the case of average and maximum planter pressure during penalty stroke, the skilled players showed higher pressures at the moment of left foot landing in rear plantar of left foot and fore, rear plantar of right foot compared to the unskilled players. Also at the moment of impact, the skilled players showed higher pressures in fore, rear plantar of left foot and fore plantar of right foot compared to the unskilled. The analysis drew the conclusion that the skilled players move their center of body from fore, rear plantar of right foot to fore, rear plantar of left foot at the moment of left foot landing and impact in order to perform a quick and strong shooting. Second in the case of plantar distribution, as the skilled players put over 70% of their weights on left foot, they showed overall higher plantar pressure distributed on the outer fore, mid and rear parts of left foot plantar, in contrast with the unskilled players who showed about 50/50 distribution of weights on their right and left foot. The analysis concluded that such distribution was shown because the skilled players transferred their weights from the right to left foot effectively while the unskilled players could not do so.

  • The chairbound, handicapped person often requires a cushion to distribute the supportive forces over the largest area possible in order to reduce the risk of the development of a pressure sore. Pressure sores are areas of damaged skin caused by staying in one position for too long and can cause serious infections, some of which are life-threatening. When sitting upright, the greatest proportion of body weight is centerd over the ischial tuberosities. So, it is important that comfortable seating and largest distribution of pressure to prevent pressure sores. Therefore, the objective of this study was to develop the physical pressure measurement device and orthodontic chair to prevent pressure sores.

  • Pressure balancing valve is one of important control devices, which is fully automatic and no manual controls, regulating or adjustments are needed. It is typically used to maintain constant temperature of working fluid in power and chemical plants and domestic water supply systems. Pressure balancing valve is composed of body, cylinder and balancing piston. Therefore, the balancing piston shapes are important design parameters for a pressure balancing valve. In this study, numerical and experimental analyses are carried out with two different balancing piston shapes. Especially, the distribution of static pressure is investigated to calculate the flow coefficient($C_v$). The governing equations are derived from making using of three-dimensional Navier-Stokes equations with standard ${\kappa}-{\varepsilon}$ turbulence model and SIMPLE algorithm. Using commercial code, PHOEIC, the pressure and flow fields in pressure balancing valve are depicted.

  • The aim of this study is to evaluate tennis shoes's plantar pressure distribution in tennis prayers and to determine the influence of the shoe on various tennis movements. When investigating the biomechanics of movement in tennis, one of the first things to do is to understand the movement patterns of the sport, specifically how these patterns relate to different tennis shoes. Once these patterns are understood, footwear company can design tennis shoes that match the individual needs of tennis players. Plantar pressure measurement is widely employed to study foot function, the mechanical pathogenesis for foot disease and as a diagnostic and outcome measurement tool for many performance. Measurements were taken of plantar pressure distribution across the foot and using F-Scan(Tekscan Inc.) systems respectively. The F-Scan system for dynamic in-shoe foot pressure measurements has enabled us to assess quantitatively the efficacy of different types of footwear in reducing foot pressures. The Tekscan F-Scan system consists of a flexible, 0.18mm thick sole-shape having 1260 pressure sensors, the sensor insole was trimmed to fit the subjects' right, left shoes. For this study 4 university male, high level tennis players were instructed to hit alternated forehand stroke, backhand stroke, forehand volley, backhand volley, smash, service movement in 4 different tennis shoes. 1. When impact in tennis movement, peak pressure distribution of landing foot displayed D>C>B>A, A displayed the best low pressure distribution. A style's tennis shoes will suggest prayer with high impact. If prayer with high impact feeling during pray in tennis wear A style, it will decrease injury, will have performance improvement. 2. When impact in tennis movement, plantar pattern of pressure distribution in landing foot displayed B>A>C>D in stability performance. During tennis, prayer want to stability movement suggest B style tennis shoes when tennis movement impact keep stability of human body. B style tennis shoes give performance improvement 3. When impact in tennis movement, plantar pattern of center of force(C.O.F.)trajectory in landing foot analyzed this : 1) When stroke movement and volley movement in tennis, prayer better to rearfoot movement. 2) when service movement, prayer midfoot strike movement. 3) when smash movement, prayer have forefoot strike movement.

  • The purpose of this study to investigate the relationship between nutrient intake and serum lipid levels in 165 healthy women in Taegu. A convenient method was to assess nutritional intake. Anthropometric measurement of body weight and height were measured and average energy expenditure calculated . The mean body mass index (BMI) was 23.4$\pm$3.1 and it was higher than the mean BMI of Korean women. Obesity rates for the study subjects were 15.7% by RBW (relative body weight : >120%) and 28.5% by BMI(body mass index) ; >25). Daily energy intake was sufficient at 106% of recommended dietary allowances and the energy percentage ration of carbohydrate , fat and protein was 68 : 18 : 14. Mean intake of vitamin A, B1 , niacin , and Ca were higher than RDA. The incidence of hypertension(>140mmHg) and hypercholoesterolemia(>240mg/dl) as 18.2% and 23.6% of the subjects, respectively . Postmenopasusal women showed significantly higher blood pressure, RBW, and ALP (alkaline phosphatase) than premenopausal women. The concentration of cholesterol and average blood pressure in the irregular meal eater group were significantly higher than in the regular meal eater group. Skipping meals and unenvendurnal distribution(no breakfast, or no lunch , and large evening meals) are associated with high total cholesterol level in this population . Especially, the atherogenic index was significantly lower in the regular meal eater group than that in irregular meal eaters. The values for serum cholesterol, triglyceride, blood pressure, BMI, and atherogenic index increased with age in middle-aged women. There was a highly significant correlation between body weight and plasma lipids. HDL -cholesterol was inversely correlated with BMI. The above dta provides valuable information for community program planning and health providers who work with individual female and adults to meet their nutrietional needs to control blood lipids.
