한국 일부 20~30대 성인의 음료 섭취와 비만도와의 관련성 (Association between Beverage Intake and Obesity in Korean Adults in their 20s~30s)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the association between daily beverage intake and obesity in young adults. This cross-sectional study was conducted with 256 adults in their 20s and 30s. Obesity was evaluated by anthropometric measurement of body mass index (BMI), waist to hip ratio and waist to height ratio. In addition, the daily intake of milk, caffeinated beverages, sweetened beverages, and alcoholic beverages was investigated using the dietary record and 24-h recall methods. Based on the BMI, men and women were classified into underweight, normal, overweight and obese. Among men, 38.3% were found to be normal, 28.1% were overweight and 31.3% obese. Among women, 11.7% were underweight, 73.4% were normal, and 10.2% were overweight, which was significantly different from men. In women, the BMI of the milk consumers was significantly lower than the non-consumers. Also, the obesity indices of caffeinated beverage consumers were significantly lower than the non-consumers. An analysis of the correlation between beverage intake and the obesity index showed that the intake of caffeinated beverages among women had a significant negative correlation with the obesity index, and intake of alcoholic beverages had a significant positive correlation with waist to height ratio. This study suggests that intake of milk and caffeinated beverage may have a positive effect on obesity, whereas the intake of alcoholic beverages may have a negative effect, especially in young adult women.

Influences of guideway geometry parameters and track irregularity on dynamic performances of suspended monorail vehicle-guideway system

  • This work elaborately investigates the influences of the guideway geometry parameters and track irregularity on the dynamic performances of the suspended monorail vehicle-guideway system (SMVGS). Firstly, a spatial dynamic analysis model of the SMVGS is established by adopting ANSYS parameter design language. Then, the dynamic interaction between a vehicle with maximum design load and guideway is investigated by numerical simulation and field tests, revealing the vehicle-guideway dynamic features. Subsequently, the influences of the guideway geometry parameters and track irregularity on the dynamic performances of the SMVGS are analyzed and discussed in detail, and the reasonable ranges of several key geometry parameters of the guideway are also obtained. Results show that the vehicle-guideway dynamic responses change nonlinearly with an increase of the guideway span, and especially the guideway dynamic performances can be effectively improved by reducing the guideway span; based on a comprehensive consideration of all performance indices of the SMVGS, the deflection-span ratio of the suspended monorail guideway is finally recommended to be 1/1054~1/868. The train load could cause a large bending deformation of the pier, which would intensify the car-body lateral displacement and decrease the vehicle riding comfort; to well limit the bending deformation of the pier, its cross-section dimension is suggested to be more than 0.8 m×0.8 m. The addition of the track irregularity amplitude has small influences on the displacements and stress of the guideway; however, it would significantly increase the vehicle-guideway vibrations and rate of load reduction of the driving tyre.

Polysomnographic and Cephalometric Evaluation of Patients with Obstructive Sleep Apnea According to Obesity Level

  • Purpose: This study aimed to evaluate polysomnographic and cephalometric characteristics of patients with OSA according to obesity level based on the World Health Organization (WHO) Asian-Pacific BMI criteria. Methods: One hundred and thirty-one consecutive patients with obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) were evaluated using standard level 1 polysomnography and cephalometric analyses. The subjects were categorized into normal, overweight and obese groups according to the WHO Asian-Pacific BMI criteria. Respiratory indices and cephalometric parameters were compared among groups. Results: The 131 patients consisted of 111 males and 20 females, with a mean age of 44.1±12.4 years. The mean value of BMI was 25.3±3.4 kg/m2 for all subjects, 20.6±2.2 kg/m2 for normal (n=27), 24.0±0.5 kg/m2 for overweight (n=33) and 27.6±2.2 kg/m2 for obese (n=71). The obese group had a significantly higher apnea-hypopnea index (AHI) and respiratory arousal index and lower oxygen saturation level than the normal group (p<0.05). Total AHI, mean oxygen saturation level and respiratory arousal index were significantly correlated with BMI (p<0.001). A longer soft palate and anterior position of the hyoid bone were significantly correlated with BMI level (p ≤0.05). Conclusions: Obese patients have a higher risk of compromised craniofacial skeletal features and soft tissue structures, and severe OSA than non-obese patients.

Relation between heart rate variability and spectral analysis of electroencephalogram in chronic neuropathic pain patients

  • Chronic neuropathic pain (CNP) is a complex condition often arising from neural maladaptation after nerve injury. Understanding CNP complications involves the intricate interplay between brain-heart dynamics, assessed through quantitative electroencephalogram (qEEG) and heart rate variability (HRV). However, insights into their interaction in chronic pain are limited. Resting EEG and simultaneous electrocardiogram (lead II) of the participants were recorded for qEEG and HRV analysis. Correlations between HRV and qEEG parameters were calculated and compared with age, sex, and body mass index (BMI)-matched controls. CNP patients showed reduced HRV and significant increases in qEEG power spectral densities within delta, theta, and beta frequency ranges. A positive correlation was found between low frequency/high frequency (LF/HF) ratio in HRV analysis and theta, alpha, and beta frequency bands in qEEG among CNP patients. However, no significant correlation was observed between parasympathetic indices and theta, beta bands in qEEG within CNP group, unlike age, sex, and BMI-matched healthy controls. CNP patients display significant HRV reductions and distinctive qEEG patterns. While healthy controls exhibit significant correlations between parasympathetic HRV parameters and qEEG spectral densities, these relationships are diminished or absent in CNP individuals. LF/HF ratio, reflecting sympathovagal balance, correlates significantly with qEEG frequency bands (theta, alpha, beta), illuminating autonomic dysregulation in CNP. These findings emphasize the intricate brain-heart interplay in chronic pain, warranting further exploration.

The Effect of Vit-D Supplementation on the Side Effect of BioNTech, Pfizer Vaccination and Immunoglobulin G Response Against SARS-CoV-2 in the Individuals Tested Positive for COVID-19: A Randomized Control Trial

  • Vitamin D participates in the biological function of the innate and adaptive immune system and inflammation. We aim to specify the effectiveness of the vitamin D supplementation on the side effects BioNTech, Pfizer vaccination, and immunoglobulin G response against severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 in subjects tested positive for coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). In this multi-center randomized clinical trial, 498 people tested positive for COVID-19 were divided into 2 groups, receiving vitamin D capsules or a placebo (1 capsule daily, each containing 600 IU of vitamin D) over 14-16 weeks. Anthropometric indices and biochemical parameters were measured before and after the second dose of vaccination. Fourteen to 16 weeks after supplementation, the intervention group had an immunoglobulin G (IgG) increase of 10.89 ± 1.2 g/L, while the control group had 8.89 ± 1.3 g/L, and the difference was significant between both groups (p = 0.001). After the second dose of vaccination, the supplement group significantly increased their 25-hydroxy vitamin D from initially 28.73 ± 15.6 ng/mL and increased to 46.48 ± 27.2 ng/mL, and the difference between them was significant. Those with a higher body mass index (BMI) had the most of symptoms, and the difference of side effects according to BMI level was significantly different. In 8 weeks after supplementation obese participants had the lowest IgG levels than overweight or normal subjects. The proportion of all types of side effects on the second dose was significantly diminished compared with the first dose in the intervention group. Supplementation of 600 IU of vitamin D3 can reduce post-vaccination side effects and increase IgG levels in participants who received BioNTech, Pfizer vaccine.

Evaluation of preslaughter losses, meat quality, and physiological characteristics of broilers in response to crating density for the standard of animal welfare and to seasonal differences

  • The effects of seasonal differences and crating densities on the preslaughter losses, breast meat quality, and physiological indices of broilers were determined. A total of 600 broilers aged 35 days were divided into 10 treatment groups based on five crating densities (10.3, 11.5, 12.8, 14.1, 15.4 birds·m-2) with two seasons (i.e., summer and winter) to give six replicates and were placed at various locations in the truck. The birds were transported in crates having dimensions of 1.0 m × 0.78 m × 0.26 m. The transportation distance was 20 km for 40 minutes (average 30 - 50 km·h-1) during the early morning. The results revealed that broilers transported at densities of 14.1 and 15.4 birds·m-2 recorded lower (p < 0.05) pH, water-holding capacity (WHC), and muscle redness compared to those at densities of 11.5 birds·m-2. Furthermore, higher (p < 0.05) cooking loss was found in birds stocked at more than 14.1 birds·m-2 compared to the other treatments. However, no effect (p > 0.05) with different crating densities on body weight loss, carcass traits, glucose, lactate, or muscle yellowness was observed. Crating density of 14.1 birds·m-2 showed lower (p < 0.05) cortisol contents compared with birds at 10.3 and 15.4 birds·m-2. Winter transportation had higher (p < 0.05) relative breast meat weight, cooking loss, muscle redness, and cortisol contents whereas summer transportation had higher (p < 0.05) glucose and lactate contents in the blood plasma of broilers. In conclusion, the stocking of 12.8 birds·m-2 is recommended to minimize stress responses and undesirable changes that could negatively affect muscle quality.

복부비만 관리프로그램이 성인 비만여성의 식이섭취, 스트레스지수 및 복부비만율에 미치는 영향 - 복부비만감소군과 복부비만증가군의 비교를 중심으로 - (Effect of an abdominal obesity management program on dietary intake, stress index, and waist to hip ratio in abdominally obese women - Focus on comparison of the WHR decrease and WHR increase groups -)

  • 본 연구는 비만연구소 복부비만관리 프로그램에 참여한 복부비만율 0.80 이상인 복부비만 여성 195명을 대상으로 12주간 실시하였으며, 프로그램 종료 후 복부비만 감소 여부에 따라 복부비만율 감소군과 복부비만율 증가군으로 나누어 신체계측치의 변화, 식이섭취의 변화, 혈관나이, 스트레스 지수 및 건강지수의 변화를 비교 하였다. 영양소의 섭취량을 살펴본 결과, 체중, 허리둘레, 엉덩이둘레가 유의적으로 감소한 복부비만율 감소군에서 식물성 단백질, 칼륨, 비타민 A, 엽산, 식이섬유, 칼슘, 인, 비타민 $B_2$, 비타민 $B_6$, 비타민 C, 식물성지방, 철분, 나트륨, 나이아신, 비타민 E 및 다가불포화지방산의 영양밀도가 유의적으로 증가하였고, 단백질, 칼슘, 인, 비타민 A, 비타민 $B_1$, 비타민 $B_2$ 그리고 비타민 C의 INQ가 유의적으로 증가하였다. 특히 식이섬유, 칼슘, 인, 아연, 비타민 $B_6$, 비타민 C 그리고 비타민 E의 변화율은 복부비만율 감소군에서 더 컸으며, 두 그룹간의 유의적인 차이를 보였다. 식품섭취 다양성의 변화를 살펴보기 위해 식품군별 섭취 가짓수를 비교해 본 결과, 복부비만율 감소군에서 어패류, 두류, 견과류, 채소류 그리고 버섯류 가짓수가 유의적으로 증가한 것으로 나타났다. 복부비만율 감소군에서는 스트레스 지수와 건강지수가 유의적으로 개선된 반면 복부비만율 증가군에서는 건강지수가 감소하였다. 본 연구에서는 복부비만율 변화와 영양밀도, 혈관나이, 스트레스 지수 및 건강지수 변화간의 상관성을 알아보았다. 그 결과, 복부비만율 감소의 변화율이 높을수록 식물성 단백질, 식물성 지질, 섬유질, 칼슘, 철분, 칼륨, 아연, 비타민 A, 비타민 $B_2$, 비타민 $B_6$, 비타민 C 그리고 엽산의 섭취량이 유의적으로 감소하였고, 복부비만율 증가의 변화율이 높을수록 동물성 단백질과 총 지질의 섭취량이 유의적으로 증가하였다. 스트레스 지수와 건강지수와의 관련성에서는 복부비만율 감소율이 높을수록 스트레스 지수가 유의적으로 감소하는 양의 상관관계를 보인 반면, 건강지수는 증가하는 음의 상관관계를 보였다. 이상을 통해 볼 때, 영양교육과 식습관 및 생활습관 개선 교육으로 구성된 복부비만관리 프로그램은 식이섭취에 긍정적인 영향을 미칠 뿐만 아니라 스트레스도 완화시켜 복부비만율 개선에 도움이 되므로, 후속 연구에서는 이러한 교육을 장기프로그램에 적용시킨 뒤 이러한 복부비만율 개선이 지속적으로 유지되는 지를 살펴보는 것이 필요하다.

True Digestibility of Phosphorus in Different Resources of Feed Ingredients in Growing Pigs

  • To determine the true digestible phosphorus (TDP) requirement of growing pigs, two experiments were designed with the experimental diets containing five true digestible P levels (0.16%, 0.20%, 0.23%, 0.26% and 0.39%) and the ratio of total calcium to true digestible P (TDP) kept at 2:1. In Experiment 1, five barrows (Duroc${\times}$Landrace${\times}$Yorkshire) with an average initial body weight of 27.9 kg were used in a $5{\times}5$ Latin-square design to evaluate the effect of different dietary P levels on the digestibility and output of P and nitrogen. In Experiment 2, sixty healthy growing pigs (Duroc${\times}$Landrace${\times}$Yorkshire) with an average body weight (BW) of 21.4 kg were assigned randomly to one of the five dietary treatments (12 pigs/diet), and were used to determine the true digestible phosphorus (TDP) requirement of growing pigs on the basis of growth performance and serum biochemical indices. The results indicated that the true digestibility of P increased (p<0.05) linearly with increasing dietary TDP level below 0.26%. The true P digestibility was highest (56.6%) when dietary TDP was 0.34%. Expressed as g/kg dry matter intake (DMI), fecal P output increased (p<0.05) linearly with increasing P input. On the basis of g/kg fecal dry matter (DM), fecal P output was lowest for Diet 4 and highest (p<0.05) for Diet 5. The apparent digestibility of crude protein (CP) did not differ (p>0.05) among the five diets, with the average nitrogen output of 12.14 g/d and nitrogen retention of 66% to 74% (p>0.05), which suggested that there was no interaction between dietary P and CP protein levels. During the 28-d experimental period of Experiment 2, the average daily gain (ADG) of pigs was affected by dietary TDP levels as described by Eq. (1): $y=-809,532x^4+788,079x^3-276,250x^2+42,114x-1,759$; ($R^2=0.99$; p<0.01; y = ADG, g/d; x = dietary TDP, %), F/G for pigs by Eq. (2): $y=3,651.1x^4-3,480.4x^3+1,183.8x^2-172.5x+10.9$ ($R^2=0.99$; p<0.01; y = F/G; x = dietary TDP, %), and Total P concentrations in serum by Eq. (3): $y=-3,311.7x^4+3,342.7x^3-1,224.6x^2+195.6x-8.7$ (R2 = 0.99; p<0.01; y = total serum P concentration and x = dietary TDP, %). The highest ADG (782 g/d), the lowest F/G (1.07) and the highest total serum P concentration (3.1 mmol/L) were obtained when dietary TDP level was 0.34%. Collectively, these results indicate that the optimal TDP requirement of growing pigs is 0.34% of the diet at a total Ca to TDP ratio of 2:1.

난소적출 마우스에서 고진음자(固眞飮子) 물 추출물의 골다공증 개선 효과 (Anti-osteoporotic Activity of Gojineumja Aqueous Extracts on the Ovariectomized Mice)

  • 목 적: 본 연구에서는 고진음자 물 추출물의 골다공증 개선 효과를 난소적출 마우스를 이용하여 risedronate sodium(RES) 2.5 mg/kg 투여군과 비교 평가하였다. 방 법: OVX 35일 후부터 고진음자 물 추출물을 매일 1회씩 35일간 연속 경구 투여하고, 체중, 대퇴골의 중량, 골밀도, 골강도, 무기질 - 칼슘(Ca) 및 무기인(inorganic phosphorus, IP) 함량, 골량 및 구조와 골흡수에 관한 조직병리학적 변화를 혈중 osteocalcin 함량 및 bone specific alkaline phosphatase(BALP) 활성의 변화와 함께 각각 측정하였다. 본 실험에서 고진음자 물 추출물에서의 결과는 RES 경구 투여 OVX 마우스에서의 결과와 비교 평가 하였다. 결 과: OVX대조군에서는 현저한 체중 증가와 함께 대퇴골의 중량, 골밀도, 골강도, 무기질 - Ca 및 IP 함량 감소 및 지주골과 피질골의 현저한 조직병리학적 감소가 함께 확인되었으며, 혈중 osteocalcin 함량의 증가와 함께 혈중 BALP 활성의 감소가 각각 확인되었다. 이에, 전형적인 estrogen 결핍성 골다공증 소견이 OVX 수술에 의해 유발되는 것으로 관찰되었다. 한편 이렇게 OVX에 의해 유발된 estrogen 결핍성 골다공증 소견이 모든 세 용량의 고진음자 물 추출물 500, 250 및 125 mg/kg의 35일에 걸친 연속 경구 투여에 의해 투여 용량 의존적으로 현저히 억제되었고, 특히 고진음자 물 추출물 500 mg/kg은 RES 2.5 mg/kg 투여군과 비교할 만한 골다공증 개선 효과를 나타내었다. 결 론: 이상의 결과에서, 고진음자 물 추출물은 난소적출 마우스에서 투여 용량 의존적으로 유효한 골다공증 개선 효과를 나타내는 것으로 관찰되었다. 따라서 적절한 용량의 고진음자 물 추출물은 새로운 보다 효과적인 estrogen 결핍성 골다공증 개선제로서의 개발 가능성이 매우 높을 것으로 기대된다. 한편 고진음자는 15종의 약제로 구성되어 있으며, 각각의 개별 약제는 수많은 생리활성 물질을 함유하고 있어, 앞으로 생리활성을 나타내는 화학성분의 검색과 함께 다양한 방면으로 기전연구가 추가적으로 수행되어야 할 것으로 판단된다.

지렁이 움직임 감지 시스템을 이용한 중금속 오염 토양의 생태독성 발현 메커니즘에 대한 연구 (Study on the Mechanism of Manifestation of Ecological Toxicity in Heavy Metal Contaminated Soil Using the Sensing System of Earthworm Movement)

  • 배경토양에 카드뮴(Cd), 납(Pb), 아연(Zn) 등의 중금속 오염물질을 인위적으로 오염시킨 후 진동센서 등으로 구성된 시스템(ViSSET)을 이용하여 지렁이 움직임 특성을 실시간으로 모니터링하였다. 이로부터 얻어진 지렁이 움직임의 누적 횟수와 전통적인 지렁이 행태지표(실험 전후의 체중 변화, 생체축적농도) 등을 이용하여 중금속 오염물질의 토양 내 생태독성 발현 기작을 규명하였다. 중금속별 농도 증가에 따른 지렁이 움직임을 살펴보면, Cd는 농도가 증가함에 따라 지렁이 움직임은 감소하다가 증가하는 경향을 보였고, Pb는 농도 증가에 따라 지렁이 움직임이 급증하였으며, Zn의 경우는 농도가 증가함에 따라 지렁이 움직임은 지속적으로 감소하는 것으로 나타났다. 지렁이의 체중은 Zn 오염 토양에서 가장 크게 감소하였으며, Cd와 Pb에서는 지렁이 체중 변화가 유사한 것으로 조사되었다. 생물축적농도는 Cd, Zn, Pb의 순으로 높게 조사되었고, 특히 Pb의 경우에는 토양 내 농도에 따른 생체축적농도의 변화가 뚜렷하게 나타나지 않았다. Cd는 metallothionein-bound 형태로 결합되어 지렁이 생체 내에 장기간 축적되며, 특히 고농도에서는 임계효과(critical effect)에 의해 지렁이 움직임에 악영향을 주는 것으로 판단된다. Pb는 섭취에 의하여 생태독성이 발현되는 것이 아니고 피부를 자극시키거나 감각기관을 손상시킴으로서 독성을 발현시키는 것으로 생각된다. Zn은 소화기관의 세포막을 손상시키거나 물질대사를 과도하게 증가시킴으로써 지렁이 움직임과 체중이 감소하는 것과 같은 생태독성을 발현시킨다. 지렁이 움직임에 대한 실시간 모니터링 결과를 분석하여 도출한 Pb의 50% 최대 영향농도(half maximal effective concentration, EC50)는 751.2 mg/kg로 기존 연구와 유사한 것으로 나타났다. 본 연구를 통하여 기존에 이용되어온 지렁이 행태 지표와 새롭게 제시한 지렁이의 움직임을 실시간으로 모니터링하여 얻어진 결과를 통합적으로 해석함으로써 중금속 오염물질의 생태독성 발현 기작을 규명하는 것이 효과적임을 확인할 수 있었다.
